What a great review - we are so glad you like iit.
Sadly timing was lost in both arguments with others and production. Likewise we had hoped to make the coach body fully removable - but some technical issues meant the most reliable way to make a quality item meant the interior needed the extra support gained by being fixed to the wagon.
    Left for Titfield!

Thanks for watching. And for clarifying the cause of the delay, fortunately it wasn't a very long one, and it's lovely to have this superb model at last.

Fair play Rapido for the reply here. I'd so tempted by this set.

Sublime presentation - this is mine & my son's favourite locomotive film of all time; proof-positive, that, along with the film, they just don't make locomotives like this anymore. Rapido has excelled itself with the intricate modelling (both the internally & externally) - well done !

Quite wonderful. I can't recall a UA-cam video that has given me such joy.

What an excellent review from someone who's an enthusiast for the film as well as for model railways. Top notch production values and narration, as always, from Melchester. 🙂

A very informative video! You raised the bar of making a review video!
I always thought the colour on the loco look a bit strange. Thank you for your information, Chris.
The set looked tempting but i need to watch the film first.
    Cheers 🎉

Than you Patt, yes the colour does take a while to get used too, you just need to wear sunglasses! 😎

A comment on the packaging - If you glue the figures into the cab you must cut away the blister above them as it is not quite tall enough to clear their heads. I almost broke them the first time I put the locomotive back in the clamshell. Be careful! You are also given small red discs to cover the axle screws. These can be glued in with canopy cement (white glue). Thanks for the great review.

Hi Chris, that was brilliant. I especially liked the book in the pack describing the making of the film. Makes me wish Rapido sold the book seperately...........Anyway, a great film, I really liked the whistle salute at the end, Southern instead of Great Western, but that's ok. All the best Dave.

Thanks Dave, Yes I had to create a slight Southern twist to the famous scene at the end of the film - I only have one GWR loco! 😯

This may be taken the wrong way, I loved the Titfield thunderbolt the film. But being a older guy the Great ST Trinians train robbery beats it by a suspender belt. HAHAHA

Lovely review and wonderful models. The only slight niggle I have is the sound file. Given that they have voice lines from the film it would have been cool to have thunderbolt sound like it does in the film. Not a deal breaker by any means! Just would have been cool.

Thank you, that's a very good point. It did surprise me that the loco sounds aren't first on the function list.

Thanks for the feedback. Simply there wasn’t enough clear clips of the loco sound to use from the film. With Lion not available in steam we had to get creative - the closest engine to record was the replica Der Adler in Germany!

Sure one of THE BEST reviews ever, and your railway is lovely.
To think that Ealing Studios could make films without sex or swearing, .
Sadly however that great Ealing Classic was copied to s certain extent by the Americans who had to have swearing,i didnt even bother watching the whole film.

    • @melchestermodelrailway
      @melchestermodelrailway  11 місяців тому

That's very kind of you Steven. I love the Ealing comedies, I think The Lady Killers is my favourite, especially as it leant the railway such a macbre feel to it in that film. Well worth checking out some of the lesser known Ealing films too.

@@melchestermodelrailway I love the Ealing films Passport to Pimlico, The Lavender Hill Mob.

Great video, I loved the original film which I first saw back in the 60s and my (then only quite young) son watched with me in the early 2000s while having time off from school ill. One minor detail, as a local to Wisbech, it is pronounced Wisbeech not Wisbetch. Sorry, but best to get it right! Thanks again. Regards, Eric.
