  • Hiking in Ocala National Forest along the historical Yearling Trail. During the 1800's settlers moved to this area and established homesteads along the trail and surrounding areas. During the 1930's a book called The Yearling was written by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. At the time she visited people living here and writing about their stories from the area. During the 1940's a movie was produced based on the book. The trail leads you along historical sites including the Long Family Cemetery. "On March 27, 1854, life began to change for the Longs. Reuben and Sarah Jane began to hear stories from relatives in Florida. In 1848 , fourteen families formed a wagon train ad left Pireway , NC for Florida. Many of these families were related to Reuben Long. All were related to someone on the train." Visit these links to learn more on the trails and history here:

We were in Ocala last month...it was pretty neat...saw a few scrub jays, but did not have much time. I worked on a TV remake of "The Yearling" in the 90's in South Carolina. I did special effects...rain, fire, etc, but I excelled at playing the bear!.
    Great video, again.

@@jerrymills4203 We were just passing through on the way from Winter Park back home to Charleston. My wife was an artist in their art festival and I snake hunted in the Christmas area the prior 3 days, so we were kind of out wildlife time.

FT shows reverence for Florida forebears and reminds us of a seminal figure in Florida and American literature--Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings.

The Ocala National Forest looked amazing and vast! That sinkhole was pretty deep.

Really cool all the stuff about the Yearling. Also all the history. That sinkhole was neat. I really want to go to Ocala NF and find some of the springs too. Great video!

Thank you. it’s nice to be able to picture scenes I’ve read about in The Yearling, especially those scenes about the Baxter’s family sinkhole.

This thank you for letting me visit the graveyard i saw while hiking with my boy scout troop, troop 102 in Brandon Florida (sadly the troop fell apart) the one that sticks with me the most. The boy who died playing around fire. It says it on his tombstone. ALSO the yerling sinkhole is what I was trying to find like a year ago on your channel and it’s crazy that I stumbled apon this video.
