Electric hot hatch! 2023 Abarth 500e review: Sting put in new Fiat 500e EV's tail, but is it enough?

- The 2023 Abarth 500e represents a new take on the hot hatch. Gone are the days of a small but powerful engine with a rorty exhaust note in a lightweight body. Yep, this is an electric car with a relatively low amount of power and heavy kerb weight.
That's right; the EV successor to the Abarth 595 might not sound that appealing on paper, but it's out to prove that there's a lot more to a hot hatch than just the numbers. And yes, it has a divisive electric sound generator to make it feel more, well, Abarth - according to the ears, at least.
So, in this expert review, CarsGuide Deputy Editor James Clearly heads to Italy to put the hotter version of the Fiat 500e through its paces to see if it has genuine hot-hatch chops or not and is, therefore, worthy of the Abarth badge.

Much prefer the Mini electric.
Vastly over-priced for the range of only 250 kilometers. And being a range quote from a manufacturer, you can almost guarantee that the range is probably exaggerated by 10 or 20% because they never do real life tests. An MG PHEV or full electric is only AUS $ 50,000. Both are bigger with more range and not badly appointed.
Parts and labour will probably also be expensive, as it is a European car, so there's that.
If the Chinese don't get greedy cars like this will be abject failures... $65K are they serious?
Just a bit more negative comment - twice more expensive than petrol version and 500kg !!! HEAVIER.
HOW is this more environmentally friendly?
All electric cars are 400-500 kg heavier than petrol counterparts. Electric cars is a scam at an unprecedented scale.
