I ended up picking up a wooden crate, drilling some holes in it, and zip tying it to the factory rack with a foam pad between to avoid scratching and reduce vibration noise. I also cut up an old skate board to use as a rack extension (the wheels sit perfectly above the brake light) for a tail bag that was a bit long for the factory rack. With the wooden crate, I also zip tied in a glasses case for easy access, used an old leather belt to make an adjustable cup holder for my coffee mug, and added battery powered LED lights to increase night time visibility. The skateboard/tail bag set up is more aerodynamic, and keeps everything nice and secure. The crate set up provides enough space to pick up a couple bags of groceries, and everything is set up for quick and easy access. I was looking at picking up the various Kijima rack products through WeBike, but the crate/skate board solutions were around 1/10th the cost, (around $20 bucks for the crate and zip ties).

yes I'd like to see the photos too, for my setup, I bolted on a a $20 plastic hinged cargo box from the automotive section at Walmart and added a padlock, I also bolted a collapsible plastic crate on the top of the lid of the box to throw in grocery bags, snacks or jackets or whatever I need handy right away

I do wish that Honda would introduce a 185-200cc version of the Super Cub (and the Hunter Cub/Trail Cub) so it could handle our faster highways without straining so much. Quasi, I was just looking for panniers for my cub and came across a co that makes water proof bags for bikes. They are: Ortlieb. Oh! And they make a bag in blue!!! Don’t know if they would be adaptable to our application but, they seem to be sizable and waterproof 😁
Ortlieb is good stuff! They have been making bicycle and motorcycle panniers for decades. There are a few Cub owners in Europe that I follow on Instagram (@super_cub_adventure is one) that have been touring with Ortlieb panniers for a couple of years. It's crazy to think we have to go through all of the trouble of upgrading our bikes but the new grey Japanese model comes with all the bells and whistles. Matching color rack. Rear foot pegs, passenger seat. side kickstand, better looking tail light. etc all for 3000 to 3500 dollars. But how to get the JDM version shipped to the US? Can a dealer order one? I mean it's the same bike with same EPA requirements already met as US version. There must be some way to import one. Right now I can buy the JDM version. That's not the problem but I can't get it here. Hope we get a video of you upgrading the head light and hopefully getting the european/Japanese tail light.
Great video, I like the rack & supports. I found them on webike Japan, but the shipping is ~$180 to get them to Florida. I think this can wait a bit. That website is fun to explore though. They have everything you can think of including cams and big bore kits for these bikes.

Thx! I noticed the bluing on the exhaust as well... that's a normal issue for stainless to discolor after heating up repeatedly. These mufflers have integrated catalytic converters in them, so that makes them run even hotter. If I want to restore the original shine, I can probably use some Simichrome or Blue Magic other metal polish to restore the original finish. Cheers! 👍 --QM
Well Quazi, I’ve been looking around my area for a while now for a blue cub.... no luck, all I could find was red. Not exactly my color. But, just the other day ran across one out in NY!, put my down payment on it right away. Only 48 mile on her and it comes with a cover shop manual and a rear rack! I’m soled!!!😁😁😁
Sweet... congrats on your new Cub! Blue is the best color, IMHO. How far away is the bike from you... just a short trip or a cross-country trek? That blue gel is thread-locker... it dries into a very sticky paste that helps to retain fasteners by "gluing" them in place. www.permatex.com/products/adhesives-sealants/permatex-medium-strength-threadlocker-blue-gel-2/ The vibration on most motorcycles, particularly these single-cylinder bikes, can vibrate nuts and bolts loose over just a few hundred miles. The thread-locker gives some extra resistance against vibrating loose or backing out due to vibration. There are different strengths of thread lock, usually "blue" (medium-strength) and "red" (high-strength)... I used the blue variety in this video. Cheers! 👍 --QM
9:42 Would you recommend substituting nylon spacer washers in lieu of the supplied metal ones? I’m thinking this might mitigate some of the paint marring and vibrational stress on the fender. I like the Kajima’s look and utility, and was really surprised at how non-OEM the fitment was for an actual OEM Honda part. Where did you find the tow behind trailer? Nice work.
Thanks for watching and leaving feedback! Nylon washers might be a good idea betwen the rack and the fender. I had to purchase longer bolts for the side mounts because the original bolts were just a bit too short. I ended up with 5mm longer bolts and that gave me just enough slack to install a pair of stainless washers on both sides of the mount (fender and bolt head). The trailer that I have in later videos is the KipMoto SherpaX adventure trailer: kipmoto.com/pages/sherpax . They were originally designed for big ADV motorcycles, but they tow just fine behind these mini-motos. I pulled that trailer 10K miles around the country behind my Super Cub for the 2021 Scooter Cannonball Run ( playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLLXxDh3JumLnSK37lF4AcrF28frAIfLfA.html ). Cheers! 😉👍 --QM
Hi ....I have successfully fitted my Klijima Rack using your excellent instructions ...It says on the rack that it takes just 5 kilos weight !....How come the OEM takes the weight of a human sitting on the seat attachment . How much weight in your opinion can the Klijima take .
Both the Honda and Kijima racks can hold a LOT of weight. I'm sure that the 5 kg warning sticker is just there for legal or governmental regulations. The Cubs are equipped with passenger seats and footpegs in other markets, so the bike is engineered to hold the weight of a person back there. I routinely carry over 45 pounds (20 kg) of touring and camping gear on my rack, and I've carried a 155 pound (75 kg) person on there a couple of times. 😉👍 --QM

Howdy! I thought about using a rubber or plastic washer, but they might glue to the paint under long-term compression. I also could have omitted the washers completely and compressed the mounting tabs under tension. I was able to get 2-3 turns on the fastener, so I think it will hold fast. 👍 --QM
@@QuasiMotard Errrmm "Howby" ( In Yorkshire we would say " Ow-do-lad" ) need your help the Cub of mine hit a small rock at a really slow speed but the damage FFS was horrific scraped the bottom of the leg shields / bent the left foot peg beyond able to straighten it...and scuffed the metal on the foot rests "Bugger" can you let me know where you got new leg shields/foot peg parts from...In UK no one stocks anything as of yet....
@@korky7775 Ouch, sorry to hear about that mishap! I don't know of any distributors in the UK, but I'll research to see what I can find. The replacement leg shield for my bike was quite spendy at over $200 USD, but the foot peg step/bar is very cheap (only around $20 USD as I recall). The other pieces that you mentioned are also cheap items. I'll try to reply back again soon with some options. --QM

I don't think Kijima makes cases, but any top box would fit. I recommend the SHAD SH33 or SH39 cases because they are very sturdy and they include universal mounting bases with quick-detach mechanisms. I purchase most of my motorcycle accessories from Revzilla.com , DennisKirk.com , and Amazon.com (some of those links are affiliate links that send a few pennies back to me). I have the Kijima rack in transit. I noticed you install the front 'hooks' of the rack on the bolt that holds to the shock....but you installed it in between the shock and the fender. This made me run out and look at my SC, and I don't have the space in between the shock and the fender. If the installation directions are not clear (I don't have them yet), how do you create that gap? Just loosen the outer nut and lift/wiggle the bike while pulling outward on the shock?
As I recall, the factory configuration has spacer washers between the shocks and the fender. Just remove those spacers by pulling the top of the shock off of the mounting stud (one side at a time), and then the "ears" of the rack will fit between the shock and the fender. The same method is used for the Honda OEM rack. 😉👍 --QM

Howdy, and thanks for watching! I secured the Rotopax mounting plate to the Kijima rack with some short carriage bolts, flat washers, and Nylock nuts (all available from any hardware store). I also had a set of mounting brackets from a SHAD mounting kit that I used as backer plates to grab the bars on the rack. However, you could use any flat metal bar as a backer plate... just cut two pieces to correct lengths and drill holes in them even with the holes in the Rotopax plate. Yes, the torque for the rear shock bolts (both upper and lower) are listed in the service manual as 21 lb-ft. I typically use the column lock for quick stops or when I'm near the bike. If I plan to leave it unattended for any length of time in a risky area, then I carry a motorcycle cable lock and pass that through the front and rear wheels and pass it around a parking pylon or other fixed object. Nothing will prevent a determined thief (or a gang of 2-3 guys with a truck/van) from stealing the bike, but the cable lock will slow them down. Cheers! 👍 --QM
I thought about sourcing an extended seat from one of the Asian markets, but I don't usually ride with a passenger. The US-spec Cub's don't have provisions for rear passenger pegs (the mounting bungs are welded/epoxied shut), so that's another issue that requires an ugly clamp-on footpeg solution. The Kijima rack and side supports have worked fabulously for me over the past couple of years and 10K+ miles. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

The integrated "H" logo is very cool, and that's the reason that I wanted to put it on my bike. Unfortunately, it's just too small for most cargo purposes. The Kijima rack is much more practical, and the fit/finish is much better, IMHO. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

I recommend using the RAM 9mm mirror base adapters so you have more flexibility in mounting accessories to the Cub's handlebars (e.g. phones, GPS, GoPro, etc). That's a good question. I don't think that Kijima has a specific seat for this rack, but I have seen other rack/seat combo's on eBay that would accomplish that task... and they are larger than the dinky little Honda OEM rack. I'm sure that someone could fashion a custom seat to fit this rack without any trouble... it's definitely sturdy enough to hold a passenger. 👍 --QM
I don't think the Honda passenger seat would attach to the Kijima rack without some modifications. The Honda seat is designed to clip into the Honda rack through the openings in the "H" logo. The Kijima rack has more open area with its bars, and I'm not sure if the weight capacities would be the same because of the longer spans of tubular steel (vs. the Honda rack's steel plate on top). Creature comforts and storage make a HUGE difference if you ride the kinds of miles and put the little Cub through the tortures that I do. I'm currently 2500 miles into a 9300+ mile trip around the USA on my little Cub, and it's even pulling a trailer now! 😉👍 --QM

It's crazy to think we have to go through all of the trouble of upgrading our bikes but the new grey Japanese model comes with all the bells and whistles. Matching color rack. Rear foot pegs, passenger seat. side kickstand, better looking tail light. etc all for 3000 to 3500 dollars.
But how to get the JDM version shipped to the US? Can a dealer order one? I mean it's the same bike with same EPA requirements already met as US version. There must be some way to import one.
Right now I can buy the JDM version. That's not the problem but I can't get it here.
Hope we get a video of you upgrading the head light and hopefully getting the european/Japanese tail light.

if you loosen all he bolts before removing any, it will keep the bracket from turning when trying to loosen the other bolt

Great video, I like the rack & supports. I found them on webike Japan, but the shipping is ~$180 to get them to Florida. I think this can wait a bit. That website is fun to explore though. They have everything you can think of including cams and big bore kits for these bikes.

Thx! I noticed the bluing on the exhaust as well... that's a normal issue for stainless to discolor after heating up repeatedly. These mufflers have integrated catalytic converters in them, so that makes them run even hotter. If I want to restore the original shine, I can probably use some Simichrome or Blue Magic other metal polish to restore the original finish. Cheers! 👍 --QM
Well Quazi, I’ve been looking around my area for a while now for a blue cub.... no luck, all I could find was red. Not exactly my color. But, just the other day ran across one out in NY!, put my down payment on it right away. Only 48 mile on her and it comes with a cover shop manual and a rear rack! I’m soled!!!😁😁😁
Sweet... congrats on your new Cub! Blue is the best color, IMHO. How far away is the bike from you... just a short trip or a cross-country trek? I posted a quick vlog about Adrian's cross-country trip to pick up a Cub from a channel viewer in Minnesota ( ua-cam.com/video/PoNoSwscy7Q/v-deo.html ). He made it back to Houston without any issues and a new Cub in tow! We just rode our bikes 2000 miles up to Arkansas and Missouri for a week of motocamping. I'll be posting that series soon! That blue gel is thread-locker... it dries into a very sticky paste that helps to retain fasteners by "gluing" them in place. www.permatex.com/products/adhesives-sealants/permatex-medium-strength-threadlocker-blue-gel-2/ The vibration on most motorcycles, particularly these single-cylinder bikes, can vibrate nuts and bolts loose over just a few hundred miles. The thread-locker gives some extra resistance against vibrating loose or backing out due to vibration. There are different strengths of thread lock, usually "blue" (medium-strength) and "red" (high-strength)... I used the blue variety in this video. Cheers! 👍 --QM
9:42 Would you recommend substituting nylon spacer washers in lieu of the supplied metal ones? I’m thinking this might mitigate some of the paint marring and vibrational stress on the fender. I like the Kajima’s look and utility, and was really surprised at how non-OEM the fitment was for an actual OEM Honda part. Where did you find the tow behind trailer? Nice work.
Thanks for watching and leaving feedback! Nylon washers might be a good idea betwen the rack and the fender. I had to purchase longer bolts for the side mounts because the original bolts were just a bit too short. I ended up with 5mm longer bolts and that gave me just enough slack to install a pair of stainless washers on both sides of the mount (fender and bolt head).
The trailer that I have in later videos is the KipMoto SherpaX adventure trailer: kipmoto.com/pages/sherpax . They were originally designed for big ADV motorcycles, but they tow just fine behind these mini-motos. Hi ....I have successfully fitted my Klijima Rack using your excellent instructions ...It says on the rack that it takes just 5 kilos weight !....How come the OEM takes the weight of a human sitting on the seat attachment . How much weight in your opinion can the Klijima take .
Both the Honda and Kijima racks can hold a LOT of weight. I'm sure that the 5 kg warning sticker is just there for legal or governmental regulations. The Cubs are equipped with passenger seats and footpegs in other markets, so the bike is engineered to hold the weight of a person back there.
I routinely carry over 45 pounds (20 kg) of touring and camping gear on my rack, and I've carried a 155 pound (75 kg) person on there a couple of times. 😉👍 --QM

Welcome back ....As for the back washer how about a rubber type washer against the rack and fender...
Howdy! I thought about using a rubber or plastic washer, but they might glue to the paint under long-term compression. I also could have omitted the washers completely and compressed the mounting tabs under tension. I was able to get 2-3 turns on the fastener, so I think it will hold fast. 👍 --QM
@@QuasiMotard Errrmm "Howby" ( In Yorkshire we would say " Ow-do-lad" ) need your help the Cub of mine hit a small rock at a really slow speed but the damage FFS was horrific scraped the bottom of the leg shields / bent the left foot peg beyond able to straighten it...and scuffed the metal on the foot rests "Bugger" can you let me know where you got new leg shields/foot peg parts from...In UK no one stocks anything as of yet....
@@korky7775 Ouch, sorry to hear about that mishap! I don't know of any distributors in the UK, but I'll research to see what I can find. The replacement leg shield for my bike was quite spendy at over $200 USD, but the foot peg step/bar is very cheap (only around $20 USD as I recall). The other pieces that you mentioned are also cheap items. I'll try to reply back again soon with some options. --QM

Teh bracket looks VERY STURDY AND WELL MADE. Also, do you have a link for accessories? Also, do you know if they have a lockable storage box for the back also?
I don't think Kijima makes cases, but any top box would fit. I recommend the SHAD SH33 or SH39 cases because they are very sturdy and they include universal mounting bases with quick-detach mechanisms.

I have the Kijima rack in transit. I noticed you install the front 'hooks' of the rack on the bolt that holds to the shock....but you installed it in between the shock and the fender. This made me run out and look at my SC, and I don't have the space in between the shock and the fender. If the installation directions are not clear (I don't have them yet), how do you create that gap? Just loosen the outer nut and lift/wiggle the bike while pulling outward on the shock?
As I recall, the factory configuration has spacer washers between the shocks and the fender. Just remove those spacers by pulling the top of the shock off of the mounting stud (one side at a time), and then the "ears" of the rack will fit between the shock and the fender. The same method is used for the Honda OEM rack. 😉👍 --QM
The rack arrived today. It took literally 5 minutes to install. I removed the inner spacer washer as you suggested.

Howdy, and thanks for watching! I secured the Rotopax mounting plate to the Kijima rack with some short carriage bolts, flat washers, and Nylock nuts (all available from any hardware store). I also had a set of mounting brackets from a SHAD mounting kit that I used as backer plates to grab the bars on the rack. However, you could use any flat metal bar as a backer plate... just cut two pieces to correct lengths and drill holes in them even with the holes in the Rotopax plate.

I don't think that the Honda passenger seat would be a direct fit on the Kijima rack. However, I'm sure that the seat could be modified to fit by using a piece of flat steel under the rack as a support bracket. 😉👍 --QM

Hi, have a question to you: how do you lock your cub? There is no good lock for a cub, and no element on a bike.
I typically use the column lock for quick stops or when I'm near the bike. If I plan to leave it unattended for any length of time in a risky area, then I carry a motorcycle cable lock and pass that through the front and rear wheels and pass it around a parking pylon or other fixed object. Nothing will prevent a determined thief (or a gang of 2-3 guys with a truck/van) from stealing the bike, but the cable lock will slow them down. Cheers! 👍 --QM

Why not get a longseat with an extended rear rack?
I thought about sourcing an extended seat from one of the Asian markets, but I don't usually ride with a passenger. The US-spec Cub's don't have provisions for rear passenger pegs (the mounting bungs are welded/epoxied shut), so that's another issue that requires an ugly clamp-on footpeg solution. The Kijima rack and side supports have worked fabulously for me over the past couple of years and 10K+ miles. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Original Honda rack has a honda logo as cutouts :)
The integrated "H" logo is very cool, and that's the reason that I wanted to put it on my bike. Unfortunately, it's just too small for most cargo purposes. The Kijima rack is much more practical, and the fit/finish is much better, IMHO. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

I recommend using the RAM 9mm mirror base adapters so you have more flexibility in mounting accessories to the Cub's handlebars (e.g. phones, GPS, GoPro, etc). If you only use a single RAM adapter, then the screen or mirrors would be uneven, so it's just easier to get two of them (or you could also use flat washers as spacers).

That's a good question. I don't think that Kijima has a specific seat for this rack, but I have seen other rack/seat combo's on eBay that would accomplish that task... and they are larger than the dinky little Honda OEM rack. I'm sure that someone could fashion a custom seat to fit this rack without any trouble... it's definitely sturdy enough to hold a passenger. 👍 --QM

I don't think the Honda passenger seat would attach to the Kijima rack without some modifications. The Honda seat is designed to clip into the Honda rack through the openings in the "H" logo. The Kijima rack has more open area with its bars, and I'm not sure if the weight capacities would be the same because of the longer spans of tubular steel (vs. the Honda rack's steel plate on top).
