    that is a key point that red yeast rice contains multiple statins rather than a single one as in lovastatin as biomatrix in plants may be a key factor for being safe. Worth serious investigation.

      That’s the product I take as well. I take routine the dose and it seems to drive my LDL down by quite a bit.
      The best way to check if the supplement actually works is to maintain a constant diet for a few weeks and then test LDL and ApoB levels without the supplement and then weeks later, keep misnaming the same eating pattern/diet and retest but this time while you’ve been on the supplement for at least 3-6 weeks.
      That way you have the best confirmation to see if the supplement still works. If it does still works and have the amount if active ingredients consumer labs found out five years ago, then it should be reflected in your LDL dropping in the bloodwork. But it’s important to keep dietary pattern consistent with as many variables as you can during this time to get the most accurate gauge that you can get.

    So you end up paying more for a naturally occurring (possible efficacious dose) than for a standard dose? If taking a statin is not a great idea why take either this or the drug?

    • @arrrryyy
      @arrrryyy 4 роки тому +4

      Statins are statins they can still have side effects, but it's better to get it naturally, not as a drug. There are numerous studies confirming that red yeast extract have minuscule side effects compared to commercial prescription statins. It's like if you get a tobacco leave, dry it out and smoke, you still are getting nicotine, but if you smoke the cigarette with chemicals, with paper, etc, then it's much worse.

      The statin I use also has COQ10 in it.

      Just because it is natural doesn’t make it better or safer. That’s the appeal to nature fallacy at work.
      Statins have a very low side effect profile and are proven time and time again to be very safe and effective.
      Statins are one of the most researched drugs ever and the newer generation ones are very safe. Only a few percent get minor side effects such as muscle cramping which goes away with lowering the dose or stopping it, or doing a combo therapy.
      In fact, most cholesterol supplements are more risky because they either are 1) contaminated, 2) have not proven to have the active ingredients needed to be effective, thus 3) it may not work. For one or all three of these reasons.
      Even if the supplements isn’t contaminated, if it’s not working due to low amount of active ingredients, then guess what? You increase your risk because your LDL remains high because the supplement isn’t doing what it says it is meant to do and so you’re at high risk due to having higher LDL.
      Drugs are put through strict quality control tests and measures and we know the side effect profile and effectiveness. With supplements, not really.
      Most people would be better off taking a statin. It is safer, and way cheaper. They just need to get off of the fear porn pedals by the supplement natural snake oil industry that constantly uses the appeal to nature fallacy to say all drugs are bad.
      Many natural things can kill you slowly and very fast.

      Don't give up. I did that too, tried to lower my cholesterol without any statins, and my LDL went from 130 in 2013 to 170 in 2018. My total cholesterol was 270 when I gave in and checked after 5 years!. But my good cholesterol (HDL) was high, 85, and my trigycerides low, 34. So At least that aspect of the numbers was good. Still. I get some very noticeable chest pressure daily but not during exercise. I take fish oil and "flush" niacin. That's why the triglycerides are kept low and the HDL was high. Still, I want to get my LDL down, so I've reintroduced RYR into my supplementation. It does cause me more aches and pain but I'm going to stick with it to achieve my heart health goal. That plus eating the Mediterranean diet.

      @@mottosierra1372 Yeah, I had a cardio stress test and complete work up about 5 years ago. They didn't show any significant coronary blockages, but my heart still gets infrequent attacks of angina now and then, but since I did my homework on what's good for that, and take the supplements regularly, I can usually quell any symptoms promptly within an hour. Salvia mitzorrhazia and RYR seem to both have good effects on my heart function and just the way it feels, i.e. undetected beating! These are like a magic bullet to ward off chest constriction. However, cholesterol is not even elevated in half of all persons who suffer heart attacks. I take RYR now because it is said to reduce inflammation. I notice too that capsaicin promotes good circulation and cocoa helps endothelial resiliency. And beyond prescriptions, laughter is the best medicine.
