      Yes, she is a wonderful character. Unfortunately, she's given to us fully formed without much room to develop. Nonetheless, she tells us a lot about the author, his sense of humor, and his way of judging people, warts and all.

    I've never read any Dickens before so I'm excited about that. I only pick up David Copperfield when I'm in the mood; I don't tie myself down to get through a certain number of pages each day cause that doesn't work for me(I did try) and I enjoy the book more like that.

    Hey Emma! On page 560 of David Copperfield. I definitely think that it gets better. I agree that it does get sort of repetitive with all of his moving about but I enjoy all of the characters and their interconnectedness. I would say keep going because some drama definitely unfolds after he’s out of his childhood and into his more adult life.

    Honestly surprised that you are not enjoying David Copperfield
    I flew through it in like 3 weeks because I loved it so much
    I wonder if maybe after reading so many Dickens last year you are suffering from Dickensian fatigue?
    Don't really have much to say as help in that regard, but I feel like once you are done with the introduction and the characters start interconnecting more, the point of the book becomes a bit more clearer
    What I loved the most about David C was that it truly felt like life feels in my opinion, we have characters coming and going, and actions having a ripple effect
    I hope you find enjoyment soon, looking forward to the liveshow

    • @jamesduggan7200
      @jamesduggan7200 Рік тому +1

    I'm studying English at a very stem heavy school and while I do have a few English major colleagues that I am close with, it still can still be isolating studying literature/humanities in a school that so blatantly undervalues the field. We don't have that much funding compared to nursing/engineering and every time I talk about my studies with students of other majors, they liken what I'm doing to coloring (their words, not mine). Channels like these remind me that what I'm studying in college does have great value, even if I'm in an environment where many do not see that value. Thanks for all your great work, Emma!

    I don't have specific recommendations for brands or models, but when looking for a new chair, the best bet would be either a high-quality office chair or a gaming chair. The office chairs don't usually have headrests, whereas gaming chairs do, but the office chairs are apparently better ergonomically for the back than a gaming chair, though a gaming chair would still be miles better than a regular chair. I have a rare muscle disease and I'm considering a gaming chair (though I'm not a gamer). I agree about the aesthetics though - I don't like how they look. I like the look of cozy, homely things, not something that looks like its the seat in the control centre of a spaceship.

    I finished David Copperfield, and I’m not a huge fan. It definitely has some enjoyable and witty passages, but overall it just dragged on for too long. I’m glad to see some people commenting that they enjoyed it though. Best wishes through the rest of the book Emma!

    I just loooove your vlogs! Since you've asked about us having a BookTube channel - I actually do, but it's in German :) Buuuut I know you're interested in learning German, so my channel might be a fun place to practice a bit! I've been so inspired by your content, you are one of the reasons I initially started my channel - so thank you so so much for your videos that always make me feel so warm and cozy 💛

    David Copperfield is one of the most beloved and crowd pleasing of his novels. Surprising that you don't like it.

      I know!! Not struck by Pegotty, Steerforth, Micawber and some of the most elegiac writing about young childhood, - Emma is hard to please.

    Invest in a good quality executive chair!! They can be a bit bulkier than the gaming chairs but they do the same great things for your posture without the gfuel aesthetic. i've seen different price ranges, imo if you spend more than five hours a day sat on it its a good investment to get a really good desk chair. the only two features you really need are a full backrest that goes up to the top of your head and a height lever to get the right height for your desk.

    Supposedly those gaming chairs are mainly for the look (of a racing car seat) while a good office chair is actually better for your back. No idea, don't have either, just something I've heard on the Internet.
