I don't know much about sinks, the leak was from a big rubber washer underneath the sink. Just removed the plug bar thing and gave it a full 360 degree tightening. It's fixed in under 5 minutes. Whilst I was down there I took off the a long bowl thing from the trap. It stinks but it's empty? Just full of water, not messing about with anything else. Let them live with the smell.

Dude, you’re a lifesaver! My ever-loving wife tried to fix the bathroom sink. She took the whole thing apart, not knowing what to do. I’ve never had to reassemble anything beyond the trap, and had no idea what I was doing. Thanks for learning me!
Thanks Fit it Guy, I have unclogged my stopper in the past but never to this extent, what a difference. several videos on You Tube, yours was by far the most helpful and spot on. Thank you thank you thank you.

Sir you are doing the Lord's work by teaching those of that don't know what we're doing how to do it. You saved me money, taught me something, and gave me confidence. A sincere thank you to you.
I purchased a glacier Bay faucet for the bathroom and I followed the manufacture instructions and it leaked so I did it again, but this time I put some silicone under the drain ring and it still leaked. So I tried your method and it worked beautifully.thank you so much😃
Nice and to the point! I am about to replace my first faucet and was wanting a video to address plastic assemblies as most cheaper faucets now use them. This video fit the bill perfectly!
Good video! The only question I have is: How difficult will it be to remove drain pipe when it needs to be replaced again? Won't silicone make it difficult to put a new drain again?
We also bought a few glacier brands faucets. Everything was fine for one day then I noticed a leak around the threads. Glad I found this video and explanation on why this brand needs silicone on the rubber gasket. I think I'm on the right track now....
@@ThatFixItGuy Now that I think of it, there was some moisture around the ring before I added the silicone. Fingers crossed but I don't see or can feel any moisture below the rubber ring now. Well see how it goes. Thanks again!
Hey man thanks!!!!! I was struggling with putting the sink drain and all of it's mechanism back together I was struggling for hours and I came across your video and then it took me just five minutes after that to put it on!!!!! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!
Hooray! I can use my bathroom sink again! Thank you. Installing the stopper was tricky for me as the space was really tight and I had to puzzle it out a bit, putting the stopper rod through the slot before putting it in the screw valve. Hard to talk about all these doodads...
I’m not a plumber but have done minor repairs at times. This project seemed pretty straightforward but tried a different approach at first.. did not work and had sink out of order for almost a week! I was ready to go buy another assembly because it continued to leak..frustrating. This video worked great!! Exactly as described. I bought the correct items as used and was pleasantly surprised that it stopped leaking the first try! Thanks 😊
Thank you so much!! I just fixed my sink! The water was running so slow down the drain. So then I used drain o and everything else and nothing was working until I had a leak and this was the reason! Feels so good to have a normal sink again! 😌
Thank you for this video, it’s exactly what I needed. I was trying to DIY a set up just like the one you showed and sure enough got it put together and had a leak just where you showed. So took it apart again and need to head to Hardware store for some silicone sealant. Feel more hopeful after watching your video that next time it will work, thanks for sharing! Trying to take care of some minor repairs on my own and save a little money.
I loved this video. I had taken apart an earlier install by previous owners and they used plumbers putty under that chrome ring. Basically, a horrible seal. I'll be re-doing today using your method. Never thought about Teflon tape in this application either. That's probably going to resolve leaks. Thanks
Thank you! This was easy to follow. I decided to uninstall to clean the bathroom sink and then there was a leak when I reinstalled it and that Teflon tape came in very clutch! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much ! I opened it this morning to clean it...and I got stuck how to put it back, I tried for 3 hours, then I gave up and I search it online and you saved me ! I appreciate your time and effort to share this wonderful videos...
In the process of replacing everything in my bathroom except the tub/shower. THANK you for this great video - when I get to putting the sink together - this will be very helpful!!
I'm going to have to try this out next time I put one in. I've done dozens using plumbers putty and generally they've worked out well however I've run into a few sinks where the bottom of the drain hole wasn't as flat as it should be and have had them leak around the threaded area. I never considered putting Teflon tape on the threads or substituting silicone caulk in place of plumbers putty but I can see some real advantages to doing both. Thanks for the heads up
I’m glad I could help you with this. I have just found with all this new plastic everything using silicone has worked better for me than plumber putty. Thank you and hope I can help with something else.
this is one of the best videos i have seen can't wait to take apart sink for the 5th time only this time going to use silicone..i do not think i am getting the sink flange threaded completely using the putty..my husband passed away last year...so i am doing as much as i can myself....and not one to give up....going to try the silicone...i don't care what other people say..or think...i don't like the putty..and i used teflon tape and sealant around the drain thread...ok..here i go again...on way to menards..thanks for video will let you know if it worked..
Glad I found this video have a bathroom sink that was brand new that kept leaking underneath from the same area you just showed around the rubber piece. Thank you so much I'm going to attempt it myself.
I was doing a install on a new vanity, and the stupid thing wouldn’t stop leaking after redoing the drain twice 😞 you came in clutch and this worked like a charm

I’ve had that issue many times as well that is why with plastic pop ups I just do this every time now. Thank you for watching and glad the video helped. Hope I can help again.
Thanks for the video. The issue that I have is that after tightening the rod, I have a leakage. I don't know if it is because of the size of the new ball that came with the rod or I need more plumber putty when tightening the rod.
Excellent camera work and lighting. One question; is there supposed to be a small gasket between the ball and nut? Yesterday I bought the popup kit and it came with a gasket and it is leaking.
Glad it helped. Hope I can help again. If you ever have a question reach out. You can go to That Fix It Guy DIY Group on facebook we can figure out your issue. Thanks for watching
Thank you for the question. Just pop it out. Silicone will come out. Using the pop Up assemble I did in this video if I had to remove it I would just undo the nut that holds it on and push it up. It will take some force, but will not be bad. The silicone around the rubber washer should peel off pretty easy. May take a razor blade or a flat screw driver around the bottom and top of the sink hole. Something with a flat edge that will not damage your sink. Replace the part put more silicone on and reinstall. This will make a good video and I will add it to my list! Thank you.
Hi there. Thanks for the video. My Kholer plastic pop up doesn't have threads the entire section below the plug - it's smooth plastic where the overflow drain holes are. Also, the rubber flange thing at the bottom needs to sit ABOVE the nut threads to sit tight to the sink. In that case would silicone alone be enough on bottom side of the rubber gasket (upper side of sink under plug) and the top side of the under sink rubber flange (above the nut)? If that makes sense. Thanks!
Just installed a new faucet and sink drain pipe in our bathroom sink. Replaced the water lines as well, but sadly they did not have the correct fit so to stop the leaking I put the old ones back on which fixed the dripping. But sadly the sink drain pipe is leaking. So I guess I'll do what you suggested and redo it with some more silicone 🤞🤞🤞I think the silicone I used may have been a little to old, it felt a little off 🤔
Hey man just wanted to tell you thank you 🙏 this video helped me out I’ve never done this before and felt confident enough to try while watching your steps Preciate you man 💯🤙
I'm having a sink leak too; but mine is the faucet connection. what is that black accordion thing called that leads up to the faucet? that's where I found out where my leak is coming from. Sorry but that's the best way I can tell you. do you have a video on how to replace that?
So those lines are where the water comes from the handles and goes to the spout. They are going to be brand specific. Do you know what brand of faucet you have? If you want to send me a picture I am happy to look at it. ufix247@gmail.com Sorry I do not have a video on that yet, but I'm sure there will be one in the future.
I didn't remember to use silicone or putty. So far no leaks. Should I take it all apart to get some on there? Am I asking for trouble later on if I dont?
yea i just tood my flange off and there is one spot that did not have any putty on it..i don't see how that could of happened i put alot of putty on it..maby when turning the flange to the drain pipe it removed some putty who knows but this is getting real old..i hope silicone is better
Thanks for the video ! I have zero knowledge on plumbing. The plastic piece underneath my sink is broken and water is leaking. I wonder what parts or name of the item that I should buy from Home Depot in order to fix this issue. I really appreciate your help.
I have a question I hope you can answer. Can I just replace that one top piece the one in your right hand Whej you take it apart. Mine broke. And that’s all I need to fix mine. Do they sell just that piece? At Home Depot or Loews?
There is absolutely no reason to put Teflon tape or pipe dope on the top threaded fitting. Even the silicone around the drain cover does nothing to keep the sink from leaking. If the connection were to leak like a sieve at either place, where would the water go? It would simply go into the drain through the weep holes. And with the bottom nut, you need to make sure you get the silicone into the threads between the rubber gasket and the drain stem. Just getting it on the rubber gasket where it contacts the sink will not keep it from leaking. Thanks for taking the time to post this.
I’m having leaking issues with the threads under the big rubber gasket on the bottom of the sink. I’m going to try and put silicone in the threads from the top of the gasket then put it all together
Ya plumber putty didn’t work well for me. I believe because the new sink drain hole wasn’t perfectly round by the manufacturer. I am going to use the caulking next and see if that works better. Thanks for the helpful hints
Thx fix it guy. Great video. I have one ? for you please I have the exact same sink in my bathroom but when I removed the old tailpipe drain there was some rubber hose and a round disc for the overflow drain attached to the tailpipe which I have never encountered before. Looks like you didn’t have this on your sink. Must I replace this disc type overflow drain or can I plug the overflow hole in the sink basin? Thanks. Hope this makes sense.
Thank you for the Question. If you like Email me a couple pictures at ufix247@gmail.com. I don’t see an issue with plugging the hole. An overflow is not required by code. Just make sure it is watertight.
Cool, thanks! I'm not sure if this is my problem ... My drain is not sitting level in the hole. The basin doesn't hold water even tho the pop up is down. What do you think? I don't have any water leaking into the cabinet. TIA 😁
Sounds like the water is draining out where the putty or silicone should be applied. Or the seal is worn off the sink stopper. Is it older or a new install?
If you can’t get that removed like at the 1:44 mark the you can cut it off at the bottom. You are putting something new in anyway correct? You got this. If you got that far you can go the rest of the way. Let me know if you want some help. We can video chat
I have the same sink set up but it isn’t the plastic part (mine which is metal) it’s leaking from those little black pipes, is there anyway to fix that?
Great video, but I'm curious. What was the point of the teflon tape if those threads aren't tapered pipe thread? I know it doesn't cause a problem, just curious.
So my mother in law's sink does not have the pipe that goes all the way through the hole of the sink. It's a metal piece that was glued to the bottom of the sink. Can I replace this or should I just silicone it back?
I watched your video. Nothing comlex to follow. Eassy and Simple. I have done mine before finding your video but only used the teflon tape. I guss using the silicone sealant is the key thing. I do not like to use the plumber putty since it dries up and crack with time and back to square one. Good video!!

I get the process, but on the top part, if that leaks it jist goes where the overflow goes, essentially the more important seal os the bottom.????

Hey man just wanted to tell you thank you 🙏 this video helped me out I’ve never done this before and felt confident enough to try while watching your steps Preciate you man 💯🤙
Awesome! Your welcome! It really is the best way to do this job with leak free results.
If you want to send me a picture I am happy to look at it. ufix247@gmail.com
Sorry I do not have a video on that yet, but I'm sure there will be one in the future.
@@ThatFixItGuy thank you. I'll get the pictures ready for you. it's coming from ygomez0721@yahoo.com
Thanks for posting this video it was truly helpful.
This was great. I had no idea how that all worked.
Thank you. Glad I could help!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 this video worked! Thanks for posting!!
That is great to hear! I hope that I can help you out again!
I didn't remember to use silicone or putty. So far no leaks. Should I take it all apart to get some on there? Am I asking for trouble later on if I dont?
Thanks for the tips Brian! My weekend project!
Your welcome. Let me know if you need a hand.

Thanks for the video !
I have zero knowledge on plumbing.
The plastic piece underneath my sink is broken and water is leaking. I wonder what parts or name of the item that I should buy from Home Depot in order to fix this issue.
I really appreciate your help.
Send me a picture to ufix247@gmail.com and I can let you know the parts.
I have a question I hope you can answer. Can I just replace that one top piece the one in your right hand Whej you take it apart. Mine broke. And that’s all I need to fix mine. Do they sell just that piece? At Home Depot or Loews?
That may be had to find to match your pop up assembly. Do you know the brand? The manufacturer would maybe send you a new on free since that broke.
When you put the pivot rod inside the drain pipe did it have a pivot seat and gasket inside?
This model the ball is the seal.
You helped me fix my problem! Thanks
Sweet! Glad we could help! Please subscribe and share. Hope we can help again.
That was the exact video I needed. And thanks for the tips!
I am happy to hear that. Hope I can help again.
Me, too!
@Shari Girardeau so happy this helped!
I’m going to try and put silicone in the threads from the top of the gasket then put it all together
and no need to overtighten the nut, some only have the nut that has the spades and tightening by hand is good enough
putting a sealant on the seal under the sink is a waste of time, they very seldom leak there
Thanks brother
Great job
Your welcome! Thank you for watching! Hope we ca help again.
Thanks I sent you a pic of the sink and the overflow drain tube to your gmail. Thx
Relatively new ... 2019
Oh that is way new. If you close the drain and put just a little water in it you may be able to see what hole the water is draining into.
Did I miss identifying those parts? What is the main pipe that had the large nut called? Thx!
That is called the pop up assembly.
This helps a whole lot
@1:44 my setup does not remove after twisting? Thank you for the video so far. I don't have the money for a plumber but I may need one after all.
If you can’t get that removed like at the 1:44 mark the you can cut it off at the bottom. You are putting something new in anyway correct? You got this. If you got that far you can go the rest of the way. Let me know if you want some help. We can video chat
@@ThatFixItGuy I don't have a proper tool to cut it. Called a plumber to force it off. $650 later...
Very helpful! Thank you!!!
I have the same sink set up but it isn’t the plastic part (mine which is metal) it’s leaking from those little black pipes, is there anyway to fix that?
The black hoses that connect the faucet?
Great video, but I'm curious. What was the point of the teflon tape if those threads aren't tapered pipe thread? I know it doesn't cause a problem, just curious.
Teflon is also a great anti seize measure as well! I love the stuff!
Thanks so much for this video!
Your very welcome. Thanks for watching.
So informative thanks for the vid!!!
Your welcome. So glad it could help.
If it’s still connected to the elbows when you have to fix it, do you have a video on how to remove it?
So my mother in law's sink does not have the pipe that goes all the way through the hole of the sink. It's a metal piece that was glued to the bottom of the sink. Can I replace this or should I just silicone it back?
That is interesting? What is going on topside?
Thank you this was very helpful for me thanks
Awesome! Glad we could help! Hope we can help again.
Very good tip
Thank you. So glad this could help you.
I watched your video. Nothing comlex to follow. Eassy and Simple. I have done mine before finding your video but only used the teflon tape. I guss using the silicone sealant is the key thing. I do not like to use the plumber putty since it dries up and crack with time and back to square one. Good video!!
Thank you. Hope we can help again.
Thank you.
