The live version from the album Two For The Show is even better and shows so much energy and emotion ! Kansas were amazing. They created very complex music on studio albums, and they were so gifted that these complex acts were even better live.
This is from their debut album(excerpts from it were played in the documentary cited by our host) They barely knew what they were doing, in terms of recording/engineering/production in the studio, and they made THIS You need to hear the version from the live album " Two For The Show " More must listens from the debut: Belexes Can I Tell You(the song from a demo tape that got them their record contract) The Pilgrimage Apercu/Death Of Mother Nature Suite--the two songs are meant to be listened to together
I am old enough that I saw Kansas live several times back in the 70s and early 80s. They were just incredible back then. Robby Steinhart is my favorite backing vocalist of all time. His harmonies didn't follow what you would expect, in that he may go low when you would expect high, and vice-versa. He was also a good lead singer, although Steve Walsh had one of the best rock and roll voices at that time. I still listen to early Kansas even now and marvel at how good they were.
Just getting ready to watch it, but it makes me smile because those guys were older than me, but they are about 30 minutes west of me. When I was a freshman in college I had a roommate that was a music major, and he had the most massive audio file stereo system for all the stereo Wars that were popular at the time. But he knew the guys in Kansas actually threw his church somehow originally and they were older than him even though he was three or four years older than me. But he even had some of their hand-me-down band equipment incorporated into his huge stereo system. Dick exploded on the scene when I was in junior high right about the time I could actually go to concerts and stuff, and they were so good but we were also so proud of them because they were from right next door and they were taking the world by storm, along with bands like Boston and Rush and Lynyrd Skynyrd and so forth.
Kansas IS my favorite band! I know all their work inside out. Just saw them 2 weeks ago. WOW! They did this song. The outro is superior. Rush & Yes can hang it up. Kansas is still doing great prog albums after 50 years!
This song is what got me into prog as a whole. I already liked classical music and classic rock, and this was the perfect combination of the two. It blew my middle school mind when I first heard it. Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm to the point where you paused it to talk about how much you like this genre, but man right up to this point right here, I was totally suddenly digging the rhythm section so much. And yeah, I've heard this a billion times, but not in a really long time, and no it's not from some movie later on, it's one of their earlier fan favorites from the way back. ❤

This song was recorded in 1973, for their 1974 debut album.

From their first album Kansas!
Frickin' awesome. This song is from their 1st album.

The coda to this song is one of the all time great moments in prog. It's absolutely majestic.
Primo Kansas from the debut album.
You should definitely watch the documentary “ miracles out of nowhere”. It’s very enlightening.
This song is from their very first album eponymously titled Kansas. Written by Kerry Livgren of course. It’s pure progressive rock.
Kansas has released 2 albums in the last couple years. I just saw them again a week ago tonight. They are incredible!
