I've never wanted a light on top of my monitor, the concept is completely alien to me. Now that I've been introduced to these products, I still don't get the idea.
Alex, you are one of the very few who focuses on ML on Macs. thanks for that. This is not related to This video
if you ask me, the cable is the only useful thing
I like how you do product reviews. I don’t believe it’s right to ask creators to walk away from making money. Just have integrity. Some creators just showcase the product and let us know they are reading the manufacturer’s words. It’s a product showcase. They are honest but wise enough to know not to give an opinion about its usefulness. The dishonest types sneak in a paid review on an EDC video or “best buy” on Amazon one. I hate the ones where the creators actually say they use the product, lavish it with praise and it just also happens to be a sponsor. I don’t know if I believe them. Good job.
Thanks! Although I'm guilty of singing praise to a sponsored portable monitor in a past video. However, what I said in that video was true, and it's still my favorite portable monitor. It was this video: ua-cam.com/video/88LyeTdQ1wc/v-deo.html . In general though, I'm realizing that doing paid product reviews doesn't go with my channel's theme of tech for developers. I may do a sponsored video, but only if I really really like the product and use it myself. IDK, it's a tough balance between having trust and actually making a living.
@@AZisk several of my favorite creators have loved a product and reached out to the manufacturer to sponsor them since they use it anyway. That’s ok by me. I think it’s harder to do real reviews while also thinking about risking a relationship that potentially pays thousands of dollars in the future like you did here.
That’s why I laugh at comments that accuse a positive review of an Apple product as “selling out”! More people use other devices than use Apples and unlike every other company, Apple doesn’t pay for reviews, give free devices or offer paid sponsorships. It’s in the best interest of a creator to present a NEGATIVE review of Apple products not positive.
Long time fan, first time commenter... I'm not a developer, but you're one of my favorite Mac-centric UA-cam creators. You really know how to put equipment through its paces for testing, you're personable, and you have high production quality. You also don't spew tons of click-baity hype to drive your numbers. Anyway, I think the light bar would be the only item I'd likely consider buying... and it'd need to be on a pretty steep discount for me to do so!
For a secondary portable monitor, I recently bought the Sotsu FlipAction 16". It's expensive, but it's really well made, full aluminum with a space grey or black option. It does not attach to the laptop, which I prefer. The thing I like the best though is it comes with a stand extension that is tall enough to have the screen sit above the laptop display, which I find very comfortable. It also has good support for using in portrait mode, with or without the stand extension. Comes with a decent sleeve, so you don't have to worry about it getting scratched in your backpack and has an SD card reader built in, so you could get that functionality if you were using it with an Air. It is very expensive though.
Not sure I'd bother with the light bar for using with the MacBook alone as it has the backlit keyboard. I am considering getting one for my monitor when working at my desk though. Just not sure which, if any, are suitable to use with a 34" curved LG.
I agree the cable kit is a bit of a gimmick, and that second screen is just really badly thought out!
I would love that external screen or the cable.
Do you recommend using a screen protector?
Just got my Benq thingy to unbox, it was really helpful to watch! 😍
looking forward to your unboxing
@@AZisk Thank you for your encouragement, namesake. Your videos are the best inspiration!
The Light bar is my fav
same here.
Really having a tough time deciding between 16GB/512 and 32GB/1TB on a MBP 14”. Also wonder if the 11 or 12 core is best value.
depends on your use case
I am not reading any more instructions too. No more API doc readings. Who do those people think they are? Making me read all that documentation!!!!!!!!
I love this channel 🥰
Not sure I understand the point of the lightbar? Since MacBooks have backlit keyboards and screens? What am I missing?
its mostly to avoid eye strain and for people who work on physical paper documnets. You dont have to increase the display brightness to read whats in the document when lights in the room are off.
Hey Alex what about cover cases for Macbook I'm already using one and I'm wondering why you don't use them
i used to use them, but found they added extra weight and weren’t really necessary for the way I use the macbook
Alex could you do a video on ARC browser?
The USB-C power cable looked the most useful if you needed to power your laptop and the wall socket was more than 2 metres away from where you were sitting, but then I would either buy either a 5-metre USB--C to USB-C cable or power extension bank with a 3-metre cable at considerably less cost. I've never had a need for a light bar on a monitor or laptop screen, but a nice accessory for a musician trying to read sheet music on a music stand, when the venue's lights have been dimmed. There are less complicated and lighter standalone portable monitors that would do a better job, and the Expresso portable monitor even adds touch screen and stylus support to Mac OS!
I think that external displays for notebook are not ready. There are some cool options, but I don't see me using one of them on a daily basis.
Low brightness on the monitor - not sure about this one, but some such external devices need more power (= also connect the SECOND cable that was in the box) to increase brightness ;)
Just use a 12.9" iPad as your second monitor it works great. Tried lots of others, and this is the best solution. And surprise when you need it it doubles as an iPad 😛
Agree but I notice one silly design flaw of that which is when you are outside and the MacBook is using the data from iPad hotspot, universal control will not work, it only works when the MacBook is not using the cellular data from the iPad, which is just silly.
I’ve got a vid coming about this
@@Thekidisalright I haven’t tried that and my 12.9 iPad does not have cellular. I always cable mine and use the USB-C connection to drive the monitor. I normally turn the WiFi off on the iPad. Tablet plans at least in Canada can’t roam on the US networks without incurring stupid fees. My iPhone just works on a NA wide data plan. Some things just don’t make sense.
That's what I use. I did get one of those long armed flexible stands for it so I can have the iPad above the mac book screen when working at customer offices etc so I'm not crouched down over laptop screen all the time. Also been useful in my office as I can have the iPad next to my monitor. I like the way you can keep it in iPad mode if you prefer and the mouse and keyboard automatically switch over as you move between them. I now tend to have it like that and use the iPad for Teams, emails, etc.
I wait for the practical test of the gadgets and a benchmark 😂
I'd attach the benq magnet to my dbrand skin, but otherwise it's a no go
Good idea
I am not a cybernetic organism, but I don't think any of these would be useful to me.😉
I would like to acquire your programming knowledge hahahaha
You can do it!
@@AZisk
So teach me how to do it, tell me how to get your courses!
@@brunosanmartin1065 My courses are technology specific and not general programming knowledge. They all assume proficiency in general programming and only teach certain libraries and frameworks. So I can't steer you to those courses for programming knowledge :)
I can not imagine a time where all ppl will use a single measurement system :D I suppose it should be metric system, as it's de facto standard in science.
i vote metric too (and I live in USA)
Get SOTSU pro 16
Display. The best I’ve tried and I bought 2🎉
This man really hates instructions 😆
No chances I attach sticky thing on my expEEEnsive macbook ;)
be careful the first product is very heavy and risks damaging the hinge of the mac
I know what this is… what is this 😂😂
😆 i almost edited that out, but it was too funny
Well i certinally dont want aymore wires/cabels. Thats why i like my MacAir , minimalistic . Never could ge tthe point of a light bars. Just turn the brightness up on your screen. additional monitor? we if thats the case just take a HDMI cable and Dongal hook up to nearest tv if your despret. But that Monitor in the vid looked dreadful. But all of those items just looked like more electronic wast that will end up in your side drraw. Or just given away, mmmm Given away .. Thats an idea lols.
Electro-waste..
that's so dumb and clunky
If only BenQ figure out a way to not needing to stick something on the MacBook
