    I have all 4 of my shop doors equipped with these modified Sonoffs. Thanks. They work perfectly. My son sent me an $80 opener that looked suspiciously like a Sonoff Basic in a black case. I thanked him and sent it back to him (with his approval) with one of the modified Sonoffs for his garage door. He was amazed! I have Sonoff Basics and 4 channel pros all over my shops to control everything including my two 220V upright compressors. I use Google Minis and can control everything with my voice.

    Great video! It was very helpful to see how easy it is to update the firmware with the eWeLink app. I had two old Sonoff Basic switches that I was no longer using due to the super invasive permissions the eWeLink app requires. Rather than installing the app on my new phone, I got around this by installing eWeLink on an old phone I no longer use. I installed the app and updated the firmware and settings. I turned the phone off and put it back in the drawer. Now I control the Sonoffs with Alexa and the Alexa mobile app. It works great! Thank for a great idea!
    Rather than cutting the traces and solder, I decided to leave the Sonoff as it is and add a simple 110v relay ($1.55 US, free S&H).

    Good video. Newer garage door openers use Security + 2.0 which means a simple switch contact will not activate the door. You can get around this by buying a Security + 2.0 smart button on eBay and then hack into the button contacts to hook up to the Sonoff. The Security + 2.0 Smart buttons communicate serially over a 2 wire interface to the door opener.

    This video is very good for smart device DIYers. Very brilliant idea. The drawback is you are not able to tell the status of the garage door. Not able to check the status of door is just half of the whole purpose of having smart garage door. There are some very similar devices cost less than $50 that came with similar setup plus a door sensor that can provide the status of the door. Spending couple hours cutting and soldering, installation might be a good weekend project. If time is essential and status is important for you, you might just buy directly. I am not trying to deter the experiement of this amazing product. In stead ,I am trying to help you decide before trying. You are trying to install a device that give you function to open or close only. If you want to try or already installed this design, You can buy separate wifi window sensor to amend the missing function. The cost is less than $30. Hi, I have two questions. If I loose my cell phone where I programed the schedule for multiple Sonoffs... Will the devices continue the established schedules or I will have to set up using another phone?
    Second question, If I turn off my cell phone after programming the schedule, will the Snoonff still work as previously programmed?

    • @csongorvarga
      @csongorvarga  5 років тому

      Your settings are linked to your account and stored in the cloud. Once you change settings on your phone you the phone is not required any more. If you loose your phone, you can get into your account on any other phone. Just make sure you remember your account details like your email/phone number, password.
      If you turn off your phone schedules will still work. Moreover the on/off schedules are actually stored on the device, so those will work even if you loose internet connection. But some of the other settings like scenes need your Sonoff device to have working internet connection.

    • @csongorvarga
      @csongorvarga  5 років тому

      Thanks. I assume you are turning the tablesaw and the planer on manually. So I would go for a general purpose timer circuit (non-smart one). Those usually have many different modes that would be ideal for your case. I made a video of a HY-05 trigger module in the past. Quite popular video of mine. ua-cam.com/video/eT3Ie1bMkJk/v-deo.html. Or even simpler: get two mains relay (coil is also mains rated). Tap off the switched mains power from the tablesaw and planer each going to one of the relays. The contact side of the relay goes to the dust extractor. Either of your tools will trip one of the relay which will turn the dust collector on. And will turn it off once all your tools are off. If you want to run the dust collector a small amount of time after the tools, you need a trigger module with a delay mode.

    The New Sonoff boards are different. I decided it was best to remove the relay because there's a Fuse (F1) almost touching the relay (with tracing on the top that has to be cut). I used a dremil to cut all the way through the board tracing, then replaced the wire from the terminal through my cut on the board to the relay pin on the back. Thanks to Csongor for making the Video. *If you can't Hack/Mod the board just use a Relay with a 110 Volt coil and NO Contacts and you and it will work the same.

    C Varga, I did everything as per your instructions. I have a sonoff basic R2. When power is on and I check out put side I have no current as it’s suppose to be. However when I check continuity I have nothing either. Can turn unit on off with out issues but I never get that burp to function the opener. Any idea what I’m doing wrong? Could it be cause it’s an R2 unit? Also I don’t have an inching piece in my settings for that item once it’s been added. One last thing I’ve seen others talking about ver 2.6.5, the most current I can get is 2.6.1, any ideas why? Any help would be great,y appreciated, by you or anyone out there. Thx for previous info. Sorry, but all my Sonoffs are the original version even the one I bought recently. Somebody has posted pictures on how to do the same with the new Sonoff, you can find them somewhere below. I don't think you can get earlier version of the firmware. Try going back to the settings. It also happened to me that the new feature was not appearing after I updated the firmware. I had to go out of the screen and back in to be visible.

      The two input terminals should be connected to the your 120V mains. The two output terminals to the external switch input of your garage door. Or if you already have a separate switch to open the garage, to the terminals of that switch. I can't give you any more details, as all garage door motors are different. And you need the hardware modification explained in the video, otherwise you could damage the motor. And this method will not give you sense if the door is open or not. For something like that I recommend the Eachen GD-DC5 (I have a separate video on that), it has a door sensor as well.

    Hey, thanks for this video guide. Very clever and really well described.
    I wondered if you would be kind enough to offer me some advice.
    I’m trying to set up a cellar door to open/close via a voice command (with Alexa). The cellar door currently has a manual rocker switch, which is zero voltage. Positions are raise/close and the middle position which is clicks back to is stop. In order to open or close the cellar door, the switch must be held in open continuously, until the door reaches the fully open position. Same with closing, it must be held constantly until closed. I am trying to figure out which smart switch will work best to control this cellar door. I know the app has a timer, which is perfect, so once a connection is established by a smart switch, it can be kept switched for a set duration. However, the open wire is different to the close wire. Three wires in switch in total. Blue, pink and yellow. When blues touches pink, cellar door opens. When blue touches yellow, cellar door closes. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    • @csongorvarga
      @csongorvarga  4 роки тому

      I assume the motor which operates the door uses mains power. In that case I suggest a 2 gang TX wall switch. These have an interlock function, meaning one gang switches off the other gang. The only thing I have not tested, if the inching function (auto off) also works in interlock mode.

    • @CharlieSouthall
      @CharlieSouthall 4 роки тому

      Csongor Varga - The motor is in fact 24volt, however it is fed from a control unit, which decelerates the motor, as it approaches fully open or closed, to avoid a hard finish.
      The control unit is mains power (240v)
      However, the switch wire, which I intend to tap into, is a zero voltage switch. So we can not push any power through the wires. They are just simple switching wires.
      The problem I am having is to find a smart switch device which will enable a ‘open’ option, which makes a timed (inching) contention - but also has separate terminals for ‘close’.
