  • In this video, I show how to install and configure the Sonoff Basic smart switch. In this example, I use it to create a smart extension cord to control cabinet lights in my family room. Control the Sonoff Basic using an app called eWeLink or with voice control using Amazon Alexa or Google Home. Advanced users can flash the firmware for use with Home Assistant.

    The device you use is what I would call a receiver. The receives WiFi communications and switches power on or off. Is there a Sonoff transmitter with a dry contact input (instead of for example a push button or a phone). I have a Victron battery monitor that has a relay contact output and want to switch devices based on battery state of charge.

    These can also be used as a contactor controller if you want to run a high current load through a contactor. Don’t run a high current load directly off these!

    So are pulling out your entire Insteon system and installing again in the new place? For me it would be daunting I have around 50 switches and various devices strewn around the house.

    • @handydadtv
      @handydadtv  4 роки тому +1

      Yes I am taking the Insteon with me. I only had about a dozen devices so it wasn’t hard to remove.
      The irony is that I added devices in lieu of physical switches over my 22 years in this house (like under cabinet lighting in the kitchen). So I needed to substitute a very simple smart device that the new homeowner can figure out when he gets his WiFi setup. He would have been overwhelmed by my Insteon, plus he wasn’t willing to pay for it (I excluded it from the listing).

    • @wattz247
      @wattz247 4 роки тому

      Makes sense. I can see someone new getting a bit overwhelmed with the hub and scenes and linking process. I think this simple wifi switch is better for someone a bit less tech savvy. (After setup of course). Good luck with the move, That is never a fun job. You never know how much junk you have until you have to pack it all.

ACTUALLY, I've never had a pleasing experience with Sonoff devices. It takes HOURS for each new device I buy and try to connect. I'm not a stupid person. I'm somewhat tech-literate. I was hoping maybe someone had a coherent step by step (without fumbling around) that I could follow and finally get some joy. Therefore, I give your video a thumbs-down.
