Not just for creators.. whitelabelling happens everywhere. I work at a facility that put the exact same canola oil into every single bottle.. the only difference bringing the price up was the sticker we put on the outside
I do consulting and basically all of it is white labeling subcontractors all the way down lmao
I visited a battery company, half of it was duracel, the other stuff were generic brands, still the same battery though
Which companies, please
@@tdsk774literally every company you can think of. This is just how capitalism works.
Literally most “ off brand “ goods are the same product or made in the same factory as its branded counterpart
for context on the fluff ball thing!! at that time in middleschool and like freshman in highschool(i think that was a large demographic for zoella), those fuzzy things were super popular for girls to put on backpacks and i think that could have been the best item at the time to get like this trendy thing that was branded with my favorite youtuber.
yeah thats what i was thinking! i remember seeing a lot of kids wearing those around on their bags
yeah everyone had them on their pencil cases or their school id lanyards and stuff as well!
Extremely trendy in Britain at the time, every girl had one on her bag, I literally mean every girl.
there's no way caanths describes what a key chain is to stanz in this vid
When the key chain is a piece of belly button fluff it is a bit confusing, though.
@@namenamington when the keychain lowkey looking like a buttplug
I love the Stanz and Caanths dynamic
Top-Tier Dynamic!
Jaackmaate was the OG of rinsing her calendar at the time 🤣
Ps love his podcast and been a massive fan for years but he was spot on with her calander roast at the time 🤣🫶
The only advent calendars that could reach $50 are the lego ones, but I just checked and they're £22.50 which is $28.42, which is still a lot but tiny lego builds are definitely worth 5x their size in chocolate, in my humble opinion, zoellas one is definitely not worth 10x a regular calendar. Or I guess 20x if it only has 12 doors.
honestly i'd say £10 for that calendar is pushing it, lets be real the gifts in the calendar are straight trash
I think Pokémon sells one for $50 but you get a pack each day or something
ouuu thanks for the gift idea!! never thought of a lego one i always think chocolate lol
My mom got convinced by some online review to get me and my sibling to get this $150 advent calendar. I'm on day 4 and all that's been in it is a chocolate that was decent. A tiny bag of caramel popcorn. A tiny frosted cookie. And this weird sweet potato chocolate that tasted horrible. So far no good
there are very expensive makeup adventures calendars
Okay but wtf is an advent calendar with 12 doors? You're supposed to open one a day, it's 24 days to Christmas. The whole thing doesn't even make sense
There was a very similar incident this Christmas in Denmark. I think it was 12 different Danish influencers, who worked together to make a Christmas calendar. The calendar was priced at around 100 dollars (700 dkk), and was marketed as having around 190 dollars worth of stuff in it. In reality, I would be surprised if you would even end up paying more than 20 dollars in total, if you bought all of the items individually in stores/online.
Some of the items were:
A single bag of cheap microwave popcorn
A pack of 3 AA batteries
A single pack of the cheapest instant noodle you can find
2 separate days had a cheap plastic finger skateboard
2 separate days had one of those rubber wrist bands that were popular in the early 2000's
A pair of cheap plastic sunglasses, that you buy for like a dollar as a gag gift
I don't know what type of math they used, to think that the items were worth almost 200 dollars, but it definitely isn't the same type of math I was taught in school.
I can't believe Stanz actually knew some Internet drama before Caanths told him about it
"She wasn't personally involved in deciding the price, it was just her company that decided it" isn't really a strong defense
That was the only defense she had that was reasonable. While not exactly the same, do you think Jeff Bezos decides the price on each and every one of the thousands of Amazon basics products? He only deals with larger stuff like buying twitch solely to lose money on it, and get millions more on Amazon subscribers down the line. People watch twitch, pay for the free premium monthly, then feel obligated to buy stuff on Amazon with their subscription.
The company has to make money, though she obviously had some little say as it's her brand. Not defending her or the company but every company does this. Look at apple and their markups for subpar products
@@SwarmerGaming Well exactly, I don't think Bezos not having a direct hand in certain decisions makes him any less morally culpable for exploitative business practices done by Amazon.
Gluten free cookies are so expensive, Pokimane’s are standard for the market tbh
Not when they taste awful. That’s like McDonald’s charging 10 bucks for a burger.
@@Yerocco .... do you think gluten free cookies taste good? most gf people say it's something you have to just deal with and learn to like (I was gf for some time)
Try siete food cookies. They’re actually good and $5 a bag.
I at first was like yeah really really bad value then looked up pounds to usd.... Its like a $90 box
Nah this was like 8 years ago the UK to us money conversion was crazy
swedens biggest influencer bianca ingrosso also did exactly this with an advent calendar for her makeup brand caia a few years ago, idk why they keep going for it after the zoella fiasco🙈
has he already seen alfie living on 1 pound a day? i can’t remember but that was so fucking absurd
That advent calendar is wild😂 There is maybe $5 in that thing
I mean this is literally how capitalism works and how products are on the shelves of a supermarket. When it comes to Poki, people are blowing this out of proportion because they love to hate Poki and it’s popular to ngl. Like they are really getting mad because a brand name product is more than the generic brand.
Sure what she said was a little mean, but tbf if you don’t have the money for it, then don’t buy it and move on.
It’s the same as Mr beast cookies. Over priced and tastes awful. If they were good you can justify it. But they aren’t good at all.
Moist was angry because she called her viewers poor.
Moist was angry because his tantrums get him views. He does not give a fuck
I've never laughed at a sugma jokes but Stanz got me on that one. 😅
stanz, please stop staring into my soul while caanths tells you about cookies
Someone needs to introduce this man to Shooting Stars. Vic & Bob are proper funny
Keep up the good work. Thanks bois ⭐️❤️
A 12 days of Christmas calender is utter bull anyway. Who wants to open a piss poor over priced calender on the 12 days of Christmas? Considering that is the 26th of December through to 6th of January
I love the Charlie jumpscare at 9:00
Jackmate video isIconic watch every Christmas
Before Boots reduced the price though, they said on Twitter that it was the brand (Zoella's company) that decided the original price.
The cookie thing is still crazy, it's not like they have insane production cost, it's probably the same company making the other cookies just using different packaging and slightly different ingridients
I love Caanths' laugh!
2:00 such a big youtuber that she was literally in my BUSINESS STUDIES GCSE EXAM
WTF
@@fujinshu legit a Zoella case study in my GCSEs
@@r8ggwe watched the Jaackmaate video in our A-level media studies lesson
7 cookies per bag, I’ve seen a few reviews lol
CAN WE DO JAACKMAATE NOW (his Boris Johnson party was amazing)
Plz do alfie deyes living on 1 pound a day its too funny
Big vouch, i need to see stanz reacting to that fiasco
Honestly, the whole brit crew need to be on this channel hahaha
Mogul chess club baby!
I cannot believe I'm watching stanz react to jack. good job caanths ✌️
Damn I haven't heard the name zoella in time. My sister was a big fan but I never watched her. I feel like she was more on the female side of youtube, and from what I've heard they make way more merch sales than the male side so it's kind of expected she'd try overselling white label products.
We need a proper jaackmaate deep dive
Hmmm… I’m doing a couple advent calendars with my kid right now and this product seems in line with what a nice advent calendar gives you. Seems nice. Not really understanding the backlash
Pokis cookies are kind of cheep in comparison to other gf cookies, y’all just keep forgetting that they are gluten free and that jacks the price up
That’s the problem, all the least healthy snacks are the cheapest and most accessible. Surely anywhere between 3-5 is a very reasonable price that is unlikely to make a loss in money
yeah it bugs me that ppl talking about this as if it’s crazy expensive clearly don’t recognize that gluten free products are always more expensive. they have to be manufactured in a specialized facility and have a really strict chain of production to actually get the GF label. i’m used to buying cookies that are the same or more expensive. it’s just how it goes
@@elliekelley8758 I dunno, compared to the most popular brand like Tate's Bake Shop, which ships for $6 a bag at 7 oz (and is cheaper in stores), it seems pretty pricey even compared to other gf cookies, which I think is part of the problem. The markup on an ALREADY expensive product is gonna be very very pricey, even if the ingredients and production method are high quality. No problem with the whitelabeling but it doesn't make the price easy to swallow
@@elliekelley8758 same here I have celiac and these cookies are a definite pick up at that price
@@nameanteater4772 there’s a lot more effort that goes into making gf products than it seems, as someone with celiac it’s annoying yes, but I’ve paid more for less
People that want to defend poki purposefully focus only on the insane people and not the real criticism…
The price is one thing, calling people broke is a little cringe but whatever it’s a joke, the actual problem is her patronising her audience trying to justify the price, the dishonesty of that rather than just admitting they’re paying a premium because it’s attached to her brand.
Any creator would want to justify the price they placed on their products.
That's basic sales really, the whole situation is so stupid and blown way out of proportion
I think a lot of the price premium comes down to the type of product. As someone who has had to eat specialty diets for much of my life, $5-10 for a bag of cookies is just what gluten-free or otherwise dietary conscious foods cost, when they actually use methods and ingredients that make them not taste like shit. The brand that I buy cost $7.50USD and are the cheapest option that I actually enjoy eating. Poki's cookies are gluten free, using almond flour which is bloody expensive but also absolutely delicious and great for texture, and they claim to use sustainably sourced ingredients which adds a hell of a lot to the cost as well - we are so used to artificially low prices for a lot of things because of the slave labour that goes into their sourcing and production. These things add to the price. There is certainly a premium for the brand of 'Pokimane', but I don't think it is quite as large as you would expect, and at least some of it is the 'GF' or 'Healthy' branding premium that is added, on top of the actual cost increasing that come with backing up those claims.
Her response to it has been in poor taste. Instead of having a frank discussion of the costs of manufacturing and giving us a deep dive into the creation process. Instead of turning it into a learning moment about the economic struggles of having severe dietary restrictions or the horrific world of irresponsible sourcing and slavery in the food industry, she made a joke about someone being ‘broke’.
She said a while ago that big twitch streamers shouldn’t display a sub goal because they have enough money from their audience. I don’t get how she can say that and then decide that her audience are brokies for questioning her cookie price. I think most of the criticism against her has been completely sexist and unfounded, but this one isn’t, and she’s shoving it under the rug like it’s just people who want to see women fail.
@@traplover6357 And also lie about them being 'healthy'
I only know who Zoella is because of Angelika Oles lol
do Alfie Deyes homeless for a day
Living on a pound a day the classic
I worked in a bookstore that sold celebrity pencil cases. Each one with a couple pens were 20-30 dollars. Pads were another 10-20. So 50 for that is about market price. I think it is stupid but I don’t buy them.
The way the calendar is arranged, numerically speaking, made me want to vomit.
that’s one of the main things about advent calendars, the doors are random and you have to find the right one
Hey besties
ooo
Maybe it’s bc im a girl and therefore Zoella’s target audience but I think the gifts in the calendar weren’t that terrible. The price is definitely insane for it but the items themselves were a good choices I think for a lifestyle you tuber advent calendar. Besides the confetti. The confetti is insane.
You can tell this is from a few years ago because now, having your logo being a big Z on its own isn't a great look.
Jaackmaate is the goat
I have to personally disagree with Caanths. I think sexism on the internet and towards twitch streamers in particularly is a major issue, however I don’t think that’s why people were upset at poki. Offering cookies at over X2 the price was bad enough, but then being like “oh, you can’t afford them? your poor lmao” was wild
