Drama critic Larry McKay, his wife Kay, and their four sons move from their crowded Manhattan apartment to an old house in the country. While housewife Kay settles into suburban life, Larry continues to enjoy the theater and party scene of New York. Kay soon begins to question Larry's fidelity when he mentions a flirtatious encounter with Broadway star Deborah Vaughn.

When I was a little girl I dreamed of a life with David Niven as a pretty housewife in the country. It's still worth dreaming!
Yes David Niven was/is a class act but still had warmth and a sense of humor making him an eligible "Daddy" figure- if you're inclined to decent celebrity memoirs, read his book, The Moon's a Balloon- very good read I recall- I'm sure your library would have it- Namaste from A Niven Fan in Canada ( waiting, eagerly for snow)
@stephaniestanley8041 Yes, he is a gentleman, isn't he. He portrayed a greek priest in another film . He looked so greek that even I believed he was a priest. "Escape to Athena".

Ms. Janis Paige who had a history of sorts with Ms. Day as of Nov 2021 is still with us .
I think one of the best Day movies ever, it's one of my favorites. Not sure why IMDb only rates it 6.4? And such quality co-stars like David Niven Janis Paige and Spring Byington. I just realized Byington was 83 in this! She looks acts a much younger gal.
For some reason I was taken to see this movie in 1960, at the age of 6. The only thing I remember is that they bought a huge old rundown house and after it got fixed up, all the interiors were painted white.

This "classic" flick IS well worth watching. For many reasons- I'm not a Doris Day fan nor do I "dig" that sort of pop, pop music, but this film really IS a gas, whatever the current slang is- I've seen it many times and always enjoy it. I wanted to be a writer and a sheep dog! Namaste

This might be my least favorite Doris Day movie. What I would've loved is an audiobook with Doris as the reader: Jean Kerr was a far more interesting personality than Kate in the movie and would have been way more worthy of Doris's talent and professionalism, whereas Kate's a character she could have played in her sleep.
My mom read this book n seen the movie n me snd my sister got to hear some of the book snd see the movie and through the years we seen it a few more times but why is it for rent or to buy? It should be free. It wasn’t that great n thry already made a bunch of money off this movie already. How greedy! We already spent the money to be able to see it as much as we would like.
If you're not familiar with the 1957 book by Jean Kerr, give it a read. Kerr's humor is much wittier and more urbane than you'd ever know from watching this movie or the mediocre 1960s TV sitcom starring Pat Crowley.

And the pity of it is Doris's professional chops were totally up to a more interesting role like Kerr's real personality. I've always wished there were an audiobook of Kerr's original with Doris reading. And another with Doris reading Penny Candy, which is a sequel of sorts.

دائماً النجمة العالمية الجميلة " دوريس داي " ابدع في أفلام الكوميديا الرومانسية في السينما العالمية الأجنبية الجميلة والرائعة والسعيدة جداً رغم إنها في حقبةٍ قديمة جميلة ورائعة وسعيدة جداً ، ولا تمل من تكرار أفلامها الجميلة والرائعة والسعيدة جداً .
وخاصةً بعدما أشتهرت هي وغيرها وظهرت في " مواقع التواصل الإجتماعي العربية " بعد تلك الحقبة الجميلة والرائعة والسعيدة جداً القديمة .
أرى كلمة " إسرائيل 🇮🇱 " فهذا " الفنان العالمي الكبير القدير المصري : عمر الشريف " ترك مصر 🇪🇬 العربية والإسلامية والسينما العربية ، وذهب وعاش في الغرب وقدم كل ما هو رائع وجميل في السينما العالمية الأجنبية الجميلة والرائعة والسعيدة جداً وخاصةً " الرومانسية الأجنبية " مع النجوم العالميين الأجانب سواءً أصولهم " يهود أو نصارى أو غيرهم من الأديان الأخرى " .
أرى قبل التعليقات السابقة " خاصةً ( بعد - إذنك - الجنابة ) فالهم والحزن والغم كله سواء يداهمنا سواء بعد فرحة " موعد الأحباب " أو سواء بعد متعة " أفلام السينما العالمية الأجنبية الجميلة والرائعة والسعيدة جداً القديمة والحديثة " أو سواء بعد - إذنك - " النظر في وجوه الجميلات من النساء أجمعين : أجنبيات أو عربيات " في كل جوال أيفون عندي ، وقد ذكر لي - عندما أردت أن أبيع جوال أيفون 7 بلس - مدير عام مكتبة الملك : فهد 🐆 : محمد سالم التميمي ، قال لي : " إحتفظ به يمكن تحتاجه " والحمد لله بفضله اليوم في بيتي أجد فيه كل يوم جمال المرأة وأنواع النساء أجمعين قبل وبعد الجنابة .
