People today forget what a great actress she is. Search out some of the dramas she did. Her musical and comedic romps were fun as well. I wish she would do a TV guest shot just once more. I miss her presence terribly.

"Love Me Or Leave Me," the film that Cagney and Day made together, was arguably the best performance of both actors during the decade of the 1950's. Day and Cagney expressed their admiration for each other in their respective autobiographies. Day had worked with Sinatra in "Young at Heart" and knew each other as big band singers. Day should get the AFI Life Achievement Award and the Kennedy Center Honors.

I remember watching this when it was originally broadcast. Doris Day also sang and dedicated this song "You made me Love You " live to James Cagney. I also remember that when she first walked on the stage and got to the microphone, the audience went wild with many cat calls and whistling from the men in the audience. She was very surprised, startled, nervous, blushing and maybe a little embarrassed. I remember that her appearance lasted a little over 10 minutes. Why has this never been posted?🤔

The clip was cut off as it went on to show DD singing from a clip from Love me or Leave me- "You made me love you"- she said -"I wish I could tell you Jimmy how I feel about knowing you, but I think i said it best in a song from Love me or leave me..."- then the clip...pity the clip was cut. What a figure DD still had and it was a testament to her love for Cagney that she appeared at this [public] event which she would normally avoid!

It has been stated that Mike Nichols, the director of The Graduate, offered the pivotal role of Mrs. Robinson to Doris Day in 1967. Although Anne Bancroft acquitted herself well in the role, and was nominated for an Oscar, think of how great Doris would have been in the part. She was a superb actress, as she demonstrated in Love Me Or Leave Me opposite Cagney.

Doris and Sinatra had enjoyed a good working relationship in the 1954 film "Young At Heart", a remake of "Four Daughters" in which they sang together; both were prominent band singers in the 40s. Day's work as Ruth Etting in "Love Me Or Leave Me" was her best work and her best film.

@defundthewar That recent pic of Doris in 2009 on her website is as she looks today. That pic was taken of her in her newly remodeled kitchen which she talked about during her Birthday celebration last year. As far as the dark glasses she had on, I`ve seen Doris photographed many times wearing dark glasses indoors since the 1970`s so that`s not unusual for her. She still looks like Doris to me, no makeup and older yes but same great smile, shape of face. strong shoulders. still Doris !

  • @MrRocky9000
    @MrRocky9000 13 років тому +3

@defundthewar Let`s remember that Doris was photographed millions of times over many years and was a perfectionist . She said years ago , long before she even did the `Best Friends` series that she was tired of dressing up and getting made up or wondering about how she looked for the camera. She did a few filmed interviews through the mid 1990`s and yes she looked fresh faced and still beautiful . I think since then she does not want to leave her comfort zone. Phone interviews are easier !

My husband & I took her a birthday card and left it with her Cypress Inn staff in Carmel who promised she would get it; and the kind bartender told me I was only 1 of a few who commented that the bar reminded me of the Morrocan restaurant in Hitchcock's "The Man Who Knew Too Much", which is why she designed it like that. Good Lord - Doris in THAT dress must have left the other women seething in the shade and the male viewers very appreciative as she swished up those stage steps. Her former ex husband the creep Martin Melcher stole her money behind her back and flogged her out to every film and tv show possible as a cash cow until around this time of 1973-74 she found out she owed millions of dollars to investors because of him. How some men could and can treat women like dogs is beyond me. Doris in her prime truly was every real man's dream woman. RIP legend.

Hey, she has gone out. She's an 89 year old woman who is scared of flying. She thanks everyone for her awards though she can't go there in person, and she's never been a recluse. Shes very open, however after 73 years of preforming and acting, can't you give her a break? She's always been in the public's eye, shes very involved with her animal care, and shes not about to go and parade her self before she "carks" it JUST FOR YOUR SELFISH LITTLE ASS. alright? Respect the woman

Shame on you Google!! Censoring Doris Day of all People because she was explaining her movie relationship! Very Pathetic!

@MrRocky9000 - yes, but remember those very few interviews in the 90s were so extremely gauzy looking ... it was almost like she was in a dream sequence. I'm not criticizing her, don't misunderstand! I love Doris Day and think she was one of the few stars from the Golden Age that looked better and better as she got older. Doris in her early 50s was WAY HOTTER than Doris in her 20s, in my opinion : )

Why is Google cutting off Doris Day's tribute to James Cagney to this day?
This is insulting! Get a life already Google!

Google? What has it got to do with Google? This was posted by the AFI.

It has everything to do with Google. Doris Day was cut off in mid sentence!

They don't have the rights to show the film clip, that's why.

@defundthewar : you are totally wrong! Yes, she doesn't like paparazzi taking pictures of her because they take all the bad ones and then, the press makes up some kind of story that she is "old" and baggy or whatever nonsense.
She is entitled to grow older and I can tell you that she is still very beautiful, just older...and you can actually see a recent picture of her on her website.

You can see beautiful photos of Miss Day online which were taken on her birthdays in 2014 through 2017. I love and admire her so much. God bless her.
