    Best comparison so far. Great balance between closed and room sound. How do you get the tuning between the heads so close ? It´s so crutial for comparison and you nailed it.

    I have tried dozens of different heads from all brands and I have settled on two: EQ4 Clear and Heavyweight. They are both punchy (especially the HW) with attack that cuts through loud music while also sounding like a bass drum should. One thing to note is that the HW can't be played softly. It really only works with heavy hitting. The EQ4 works in low volume situations too and records very well. I don't see any situation that isn't covered with these two magnificent heads. Thanks so much for the video!

    Clear G1 gives me that open Keith Carlock vibe which is super hip. That clear EQ4 gives me that beef you went in a kick and confirms why I’ve never moved away from that head. Thanks for this

    Gotta love all those wide open heads with no muffling! Custom tailor your sound with lush wide open tones, add a bit of muffling and tame it down a bit. Pre-muffled heads make it easy to get a great sound out of the box, but I want full control of my tone.

      Yes; the HW had a great punchy sound and still had some musicality to it! I’ve used EMAD clear and coated, GMAD clear and coated, EMAD 2 clear and liked them all. I use Remo for my toms and Evans for the kick drums. I’ve tried PS3/4 /Pro and they just didn’t have any tone.

    I love the EQ4 as well. Short story : I had an old 70s Yamaha Rock Tour Custom kit with a 24 x 16 kick. Put an EMAD2 on there with large ring, and it knocked pictures off the walls. It sounded like a subwoofer. Perfect resonance. Just massive. Kinda sorry I sold that kick drum.

      @@Strellock Yes that would be oh-so-gratifying. I literally can not thank these guys enough for doing these vids. (With GREAT SOUND, no less!! WTF!>! (Shock and awe :) The Remo Kick comparison AND the Snare drum head shootout were absolutely invaluable. Gave me Huge insight into what heads will work best with which snare I put them on. -As for the bass, I have a 1929 Ludwig Pioneer, 26" all mahogany bass drum. Surprisingly, (especially to me..Lol) was that the the Fiberskyn Ambassador is the hybrid vintage BOOM I've been looking for -a close 2nd to the Coated Emperor). Excellent balance, Great attack, yet still with some really cool, "Just enough" overtones and timbre to maintain it's very distinct and powerful tone and Serious air-moving Punch for rock. The Coated Emperor 26" (ideal for my tastes) is a bit more focused, has both attack/presence And boom in a tight kick ass package! So rad.. ~would pick one up but hard to find. I find it hilariously astounding that I keep coming back just to hear the great kick drum & snare sounds more than I do music at the moment. !!OMG, and ALSO, Thank You for the 62 Heads vid!!! ~I'm currently building a sort of 'Baritone Piccolo' (still a 5.5" x 14, but thin, 5ply mahogany/poplar/Birch, no rings, and Glassed the inside of the shell for extra bright tone (which is based on the actual Cocobolo Piccolo the late Great Neil Peart played on Presto & RTB) This is from the shell-up, inspired mainly by that tone mixed with a bit of what I'm looking for personally. Without that vid (featuring the the Evans 'HD Dry' (also confirmed by 4 more random vids of the same head) I never would have had the proper ingredients for this special brew of wood, love, and polyurethane. ;) Light blue sparkle wrap on the way, and has a dual strainer, extended snare wire system (all 'Super-Sensitive' style). Hi Hannes, IMO you should go for the Heavyweight. I was surprised by how all that low end cuts in the mix! Let us know which one you'll choose :)

      Hannes Bauer definitely go for the Emad Heavyweight. I’ve been playing one for some time now I love it.

    First off: Mucho Kudos for the amount of time just making this video must’ve taken!! That’s champion level shit right there!
    Second, as a hydraulic player, I’ve never put one on the kick for just the flappy reason you heard there.
    The GMAD and EMAD’s are the way to go.

  • @glanemann
    @glanemann 3 роки тому +1

    You just cant beat that EMAD clear with the dampening ring. I've been using it for years and to me it sounds the best out of all of these

    The comparison videos you make are incredible! I'd love to see (and hear :D ) a remo bass drum comparison also. Btw, i like EQ4, G1 and EMAD clear

    What a great comparison!... You're a lifesaver, you've done all the work for me!. I like more BOOM than attack or head tone so pretty much anything EMAD for me... Prolly GMAD or literally any "EMAD" I can find on sale

    G2 clear or coated, seams like any with the outside ring kills the openness of the drum,I have a 1970 Ludwg 22x14 and looking for a new batter, eq4 on it right now, this was a great comparison, getting a g2 for sure now. Thanks

      Hi Mike, glad you liked that groove ;) The best sounding IMO was the EQ3 Frosted. Favourite 1-ply head was the UV1 and the most surprising is the Heavyweight (great balance between attack/bass/tone).

    should have been using a tama beater or a wood beater. also the emads can always give a great brutal/click tone when they are tuned a little bit lower than traditionally. always wanted to try attack kick heads as well, i heard they are really clicky
