Best comparison so far. Great balance between closed and room sound. How do you get the tuning between the heads so close ? It´s so crutial for comparison and you nailed it.
Hey!, thanks for the positive feedback (for me anyway)... I have an EQ4 clear but I was thinking about trading it out for an EMAD... Maybe I won't now. It did sound pretty good if not as boomy as the EMAD/GMAD.
That GMAD is unreallll! It has that super deep controlled tone like the EMAD but with a bit more resonance that gives it more of a boom than a thud. Love it!
I have tried dozens of different heads from all brands and I have settled on two: EQ4 Clear and Heavyweight. They are both punchy (especially the HW) with attack that cuts through loud music while also sounding like a bass drum should. One thing to note is that the HW can't be played softly. It really only works with heavy hitting. The EQ4 works in low volume situations too and records very well. I don't see any situation that isn't covered with these two magnificent heads. Thanks so much for the video!
Clear G1 gives me that open Keith Carlock vibe which is super hip. That clear EQ4 gives me that beef you went in a kick and confirms why I’ve never moved away from that head. Thanks for this
Gotta love all those wide open heads with no muffling! Custom tailor your sound with lush wide open tones, add a bit of muffling and tame it down a bit. Pre-muffled heads make it easy to get a great sound out of the box, but I want full control of my tone.
I'm using the EMAD Heavyweight for quite a long time now, i just absolutely love the punch and the controlled low-end out of this head and it lasts forever. It's just the perfect head for me.
Yes; the HW had a great punchy sound and still had some musicality to it! I’ve used EMAD clear and coated, GMAD clear and coated, EMAD 2 clear and liked them all. I use Remo for my toms and Evans for the kick drums. I’ve tried PS3/4 /Pro and they just didn’t have any tone.
I love the EQ4 as well. Short story : I had an old 70s Yamaha Rock Tour Custom kit with a 24 x 16 kick. Put an EMAD2 on there with large ring, and it knocked pictures off the walls. It sounded like a subwoofer. Perfect resonance. Just massive. Kinda sorry I sold that kick drum.
Seriously the most informative video I could have asked for. Thanks for making this. That GMAD is just pure low end magic. Loved the EQ series as well.
Dislikes were from trolls who never removed a head, put a new one on, tensioned with fingers, brought up to an exact pitch, etc. I'm impatient with ONE head change!
coming from a Remo 22" Powersonic, i must admit that the EQ3 clear and EQ4 clear sound somehwhat more pleasant for the music i play (which is indie-punk rock. I really like a beefy sounding punch with a short low end so this is perfect. Thumbs up for Evans!

EQ4 clear and coated for my usual style and speed of playing. But I found faster / harder songs work better with EQ3, it allows the drum to come alive at a higher volume. Where as EQ4 would then get lost in the mix.
Sound is off the scale, surprised how much I liked clear G1 and uv1 Wow, it would cost thousands to buy these heads and days if I tried to test all these! Thanks.

i am way late, but i need to know you tuned the eq4
If I had to guess, maybe finger tight and then half a turn
listening to EMAD2 and ONYX over and over and still can'r hear the difference. How would you compare them?
Frequency analyser says the Gmad wins for bottom end, very closely followed by the standard emad. If you’re a remo fan the ol’ pinstripe won!!!
On point with this video best one out there
