Best snare drum comparison out there. Very constant tuning, playing and very natural sounding. Great job. Sound is subjective and sound changes when playing with a band. The damped heads like HD dry etc maybe hard to hear in loud volume situations and great in regular playing solo at home etc. This is why change the heads to the situation from drum studio to live playing. I like to have option on using undamaged heads and place either an Evans e Ring, Evans mini mad or moon gel if needed in sound situations. If I can suggest, it would have been nice to do another comparison with the heads at say 90 - 92 on the drum dial to hear how each head changes in projection, response and natural sound duration. Great stuff. Happy Drumming.
What a great video!!!!! - I came here to decide between genera dry and hydraulic, now I don't even know where to start haha! Thank you for an excellent comparison video.
Perfect method for comparison, but that snare has a ton of ring to it! It's odd, because in other videos the reverse power dot and G2 sound really good, and here they're 'meh'. Genera HD is my new favorite.
This helped me so much to save a lot of money :) I use the Genera HDD for years now. Maybe it's not the perfect head for every snare and situation, but it was never wrong or sounded bad. Workes great on my 14" Sensitone Brass I don't like the sound of the snare in the video, most of the heads sound bad with this one. But it's great to understand the differences.
This was a great comparison of all the Evans heads, and the video and audio with the pop-up of each drum head was superb! Was every head tensioned the same, using what tuning device?
Thank you tons for doing these three drumhead videos. They go way more in depth than the promos Evans puts out. About to go into the recording studio and I started wondering if I should make changes from my normal setup. Decided to flip over from an Eq3 to GMAD 2 clear on bass and From HDD Dry to Genera Dry on 13" brass shell snare, but I'm sticking with the tried and true G1 coated on the Ludwig Supra and G2 clear on the toms.
I use the hydraulic black coated on my mahogany Gretsch snare and people say I’m crazy. Yet it needs 0 muffling and is real easy to tune. Maybe I’m not so crazy after all.
Not everyone thinks drums need muffling. Also "hard to tune" means it needs a bit of work and knowledge to make the snare sound good. It's easy to tune a drum that will produce zero tone and harmonics because of the extremely muffled head. A high quality snare with a well tuned head will produce pleasant tone and harmonics.
@@MadWinter889: That head isn’t as muffled as you’d think. I assume you’ve used them, which is how you know? I’ve used them since the 80’s & have had great success live. I don’t use them in the studio because I need a wider range of sustain & tonality. But playing live...guitars, bass & vocals cover what sustain those (and any other) heads would give to the audience anyway. I use what I use & don’t care what others think. But I’ll defend what I like just like anyone else would.
Greg Myers I like the snare but its my only one. I will be purchasing the pdp bubinga/maple 20 ply 8x14 soon. I just love sound of a deep thick snare man. I threw some wood hoops on my ludwig too
Greg Myers I considered some metal snares but prefer wood. I do like the sound of the pork pie patina snare a lot. I also enjoy brass snare tones. That dw is a beast though. You will need a forklift to get it on the stand lol
Great video, great player, but personally they all start sounding worse and worse once you get into the thicker compositions. They stop sounding decent after G2 Coated, in my opinion.

This by far one of the most helpful videos for comparing heads, thanks for making this
Best comparison ive ever seen! When the audio it side by side and no talk or other rhythms between, its SO easy to hear the difference!
great work you did here. this is a drummers dream. great playing, great video, great audio, thank you very much

the perfect drumhead comparison channel🥁🙏🙏🙏
Il video più interessante in assoluto sulle pelli, grande Fede🙏

Great comparison video! Very tasty playing by the way
Now add the calftone heads as a redo for all the full comparisons

This took some real effort..... Thank you!!!
great job of showing head sounds my man! THANKS!
How come it takes me 20 minutes to change and tune 1 head, but you managed to change loads in 4 minutes😐

evans HD dry & genera HD win
+René Mendoza Cantú I use them both and I agree sir
I recently swiched to the HD dry and I couldnt be happier with it.
I love my hd dry perfect snare batter head in my opinion
yea this is the only one I liked as well .. I already am using the onyx coated
HD Dry on my SledgeHammer. Perfect.
Great comparison video. Thank you! ST Dry is my fave.
My favorite G2 coated, HD, and Genera Dry
Hola! Que hit hat está utilizando? Ufip Bionic?
My 2 favorites are HD Dry and Hybrid
Such a tasty groove 👌
Audix i5 is the top snare mic, has a reputation for being an SM57 killer, or something like that
Dat Genera HD Dry
uploaded the day after my b-day
1:49 More like ST Anger coated
nice job
I liked the ST Dry
Bravo!
MEGA THANX FOR THIS!!!! ;-)
Great work! But i dont like this snare sound. You should tune it higher
That's a really really really great snare, but yeah it should have been tuned higher
Vitali I disagree, snares tend to all sound the same when you crank them.
1:40 and 3:10 ... right there .. the dry coat !
Nice!!
The calf skin one ran away.

Genera HD Dry for the win
So the hihat changes pitch as well? Seems like someone must have done some post production tuning...
thanks for doing this vid, but sounds like your snares and snare side are cranked. Let them breath! :)
ST takes the cake for me.
the sustain of a G1 with a heavier rimshot and much more durable. if I want to dry it out, I'll slap a moon-gel on it
Genera dry, or EC1 reverse just b/c the versatility I can get out of it.
Oh my god the bottom head is times table top right. it's like tuned to the max. y'all hear the ring.
@-@
HD dry WIN🎉
At some point these resonating tonalities begin to sound like a song)
I put the black hydraulic on my Ludwig Epic 14x7 just to try something different..... Never using another head.
I have that same snare and have been using a few different heads lately, so far the hd dry is still the best for me.
+TheMrJones1994 I have the HD Dry on my smaller snare.
Greg Myers I like the snare but its my only one. I will be purchasing the pdp bubinga/maple 20 ply 8x14 soon. I just love sound of a deep thick snare man. I threw some wood hoops on my ludwig too
+TheMrJones1994 I'm about to get the DW 8x14 steel shell. That's gonna be my baby.
Greg Myers I considered some metal snares but prefer wood. I do like the sound of the pork pie patina snare a lot. I also enjoy brass snare tones. That dw is a beast though. You will need a forklift to get it on the stand lol
Hydraulic blue & genera HD DRY
its sounds like bells
Genera Dry!
HD dry coated. Winner winner lobster dinner!
Hydraulic blue
pour moi la demo est ratée. trop de résonnances ça dérange on dirait une cloche, c'tait peut être pas la bonne caisse claire à prendre.
G1 coated
ST Dry is the best
Great video, great player, but personally they all start sounding worse and worse once you get into the thicker compositions. They stop sounding decent after G2 Coated, in my opinion.
chickenbeforeegg sounded detuned. Like they are not even tuned lugs.
they all sound st. angerish to me lol
Why almost of them sound like hit a can..i Mean sound like..engg..engg..Eeng..
Whatever description of ur just don't like the sound😂😂😂😂
J1 etched was the only one that sounded good - all the others were terrible!
The St.Anger Evans head test. Worst sounding snare ever.
All bad sound
What’s the worst head on here? Gonna slap it on my Lars Ulrich signature snare...
