Which beaters are those, gentlemen? I'm kinda impressed right here I never trigger, and for me it's a science to get a clicky sound from the drums acoustically, and then proccess it (which less and less people are doing today). As a matter of fact, even the people who go honest about acoustic drums w/ no sample are taking the easy path of the "no reso head + coin in the beater" formula. By the way this beater sounds way better than the wooden ones I've seen Respect for this kind of tone you got accoustically like a real man, bro! That's how it's done... besides, a comprehensive walkthrough - you're sharing your best knowledge for free. Worth a billion likes and followers indeed... Stay awesome! Cheers from Brazil
Thanks man! That's super awesome and I greatly appreciate the comment and compliments. And I agree with you 100%. I don't want any gimmicks or tricks. I'm using the DW Sound Control Beaters. I did a review on them. They are my favorite beater for sure. Three different heads to choose from, 5 different weights to choose from and self adjustable! You can find the link here if you want to check them out! ua-cam.com/video/gRBKj9Bx5Zw/v-deo.html
EMAD sounds much better IMO. EMAD is much less clicky... seems to have more punch. Maybe if I were in a Metallica cover band, that GMAD would be perfect. I am wondering about that tuning vs the way I tune. I press dead center removing the wrinkles, then back it off a hair. I am currently using the Aquarian SKII... might have to try the EMAD next along with your tuning. Good video.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the feedback! On my next comparison video I'll keep the transitions shorter so the sound comparisons are closer. Appreciated!
oh man!! I didn't even realize you could do that~! My first ever contribution! Thank you so so much! I will gladly enjoy that and put it towards sticks! We have a show next weekend I was going to pick some up this week! :) Thank you so so much!
You know.. I've taken out the pillow and still just like it a hair more with even more dampening. Style preference I guess? I know they aren't apples to apples comparison but thought I would still let people hear the difference since I could.
I love that the clear emad still lets the kick resonate and boom, but I wanted something more durable and got the heavyweight and hated how choked and dry it makes the kick. Is the Gmad a good in between?
The reso I do hand tight like the batter but then I give it a little more tension. This for me helps still give it some tone. I basically take the key and once it starts getting some pressure I stop turning the key. Hopefully that makes sense
Emad for me. I heard they released an emad 56' calftone. I cant wait to try it out with my 20" Vintage Maxwin by Pearl. I estimate by what I've seen on the internet that its a late 70s Made in Taiwan. I havent played it yet. Still waiting for the calftones to arrive. Probably gonna go with eq4 calftones on reso.
@@ZackZweifel I can't wait for mine to arrive. Im a total drumhead nerd. I love trying new gear, new tunings, new cymbals.. etc.... I get bored easily and need changes often. So my 8pc double bass kit becomes a 4pc bop kit sometimes. My favorite kit right now is a tiny set for toddlers. I repainted them and put diplomats on them. They sound killer. Perfect for porch fests.
Bass drum mic gain was turned up too high that the sound had a popping echo sound. Also I couldn’t hear the difference cause that the first time the sound a video was coming from the batter view side and then you switch to sound the front resonant head side for the 2nd bass drum head.
Wooww! The Gmad is perfect!
yeah it's my absolute go to! Great drum head !
The purpose of “breaking it in” is to set the head and make sure it’s connected to the bearing edges properly. Good test. I play the EMAD as well
That coated emad sounds really nice and warm.
G-for sure thank u for your tune tip
Thanks for watching!

The Clear Head is Top 👍🏼 Thank You
It really is! I'd take that over anything any day!
Because i like deep, low, and bassy sound from my bass drum, so i'm gonna choose GMAD 🔥
For sure!!
Emad. It's warmer and less plastic sounding which I prefer.
I've used both, and I prefer the GMAD. Both sound great!
They're both great and both serve their purpose awesome! Thanks for watching!
Awesome video. And I love the Yay sound effect
hahaha thanks :)
EMAD for me. Thanks for shairng.
Thanks for watching!

I used to do the wrinkle tuning also, actually.
Evans is great
The GMAD seemed like it had more attack. But it was hard to tell because there was so much time on the tape that separated the 2 heads.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the feedback! On my next comparison video I'll keep the transitions shorter so the sound comparisons are closer. Appreciated!
That’s one way to end a video 🤘🏼
hahaha thanks! \m/ Thanks for watching!
GMAD for sure I'm a metalhead though
\m/ hells yes!
EMAD just sounds much better to me and yes GMAD does have that plastic sound at impact. May need to tighten more??
Yeah tightening would change a lot.. I use a very loose tuning method as shown lol 😆
GMAD for me.. More bass in the stroke I think.
I hear more definition and attack with the non-coated head which I prefer. Enjoy this little contribution towards drumsticks!

GMAD head is better great job on the video
Definitely happy with the swap! Wait till you hear the next video I just recorded today! oh man!
why use mads with dampening inside the bass drum? also cant really compare used coated apples to new clear oranges. of course clear sounds better.🍻

I love that the clear emad still lets the kick resonate and boom, but I wanted something more durable and got the heavyweight and hated how choked and dry it makes the kick. Is the Gmad a good in between?
yeah it basically goes like this: EMAD Single ply 10mm, GMAD Single ply 12, EMAD2 Two ply 10mm. So the GMAD is in-between the EMAD and EMAD2
How tight do you have your bass reso? I’ve definitely had my heads much tighter than yours for years but I’d like to try this setup.
The reso I do hand tight like the batter but then I give it a little more tension. This for me helps still give it some tone. I basically take the key and once it starts getting some pressure I stop turning the key. Hopefully that makes sense
Gmad!!!!!!!
GMAD for me
This video make me buy the Gmad 🙈🙈🙈🙈
Can't go wrong! haha nice!
White head sounds more full
Can you make a video without the mics so you can hear the head without them?
So you want to hear just the camera mic? I'm not 100% sure what you are asking
@@ZackZweifel , yes just the camera mic
@@ZackZweifel , btw gonna go for the gmad too, sounds cool
Are all those drums yours.....
Yes they are. I have 11 kits Currently. Just sold a couple
@@ZackZweifel nice bro 👍
looking at half a million dollars😂 🍻
Some of thre best kick sounds I've ever heard or played were before Evans even existed. To me this stuff is pretty gimicky and way overpriced.
nice man - but maybe in between?

Emad sounds like asshole

Sorry about that! I appreciate the feedback and I will keep this in mind for future videos! Greatly appreciate the honestly.
There is a face in the coatedhead
