I've had play times for games reset and/or freeze sometimes so I've always wondered what the actual times are. I missed when the Wii U/3ds used to actually tell you accurately
Yeah... had this happen to me when I upgraded to a switch OLED. It sucks to have a game with 100+ hours randomly reset to started playing 2 days ago. The play records were god-tier on the 3DS.

I was really into this feature and enjoyed watching the numbers go up until I started juggling multiple Switch consoles and then the numbers all started resetting and became meaningless. Such a shame.
When I switched to my oled, my times didn't come over, although I still have my launch day switch I just haven't turned it on to see if they'll adjust.

One thing to note on this is that if you have an extra switch and didn’t do a full system, transfer to it, then your play times will not carryover to that new switch, but will remain on the old one, unless you were to reset it such as if you were selling the old switch. And so it won’t keep track of the old hours you had before on your new switch.
And is there still a way to do it if you have that old switch? So it would start counting correctly?
Could you not FIRST link your old switch to the website, take a note of the playtimes it shows, then delete everything from your profile, connect your new switch and then edit the games that were on the old one as well manually by adding the initial times?

I really miss the Activity Logs and Miiverse (3DS and WII U), the plaza where it showed the Miis with the games on the Wii U was also beautiful. Nintendo managed to make the Switch with a too raw system, I honestly don't like it, but oh well.
The play time being vague on the Switch (and the parental controls app by extension) is a boon for kids getting in just a bit more playtime when they maybe aren't supposed to.
I lost all the playtime for my older Switch games once I transferred my data from my launch model Switch to my Switch OLED, and so this’ll definitely be very handy to use. Especially with Smash since I’ve played it way more since then.
Did you try this? And if so, did it accurately update your play times from your original Switch? This same thing happened to me. I'm going to try this later, but I figured I'd ask, so I'd know whether or not to get my hopes up lol
@@butterworthboys4985I’ll have to try it when I’m back home, since I’m visiting a relatives at the moment and I keep all my older Switch games in a case there.
I dont think it updates it. I had several Switch Consoles and I always started new. It never shows the full playtime from all those games. @@butterworthboys4985

I'll have to test whether this covers the inaccuracies that come from playing on multiple switches:
Each switch tracks its own time, and when they report to the Nintendo servers, they only update your playtime if the system's tracked playtime is greater than what the server has recorded. This results in playtime not being counted on a new switch, till it catches up with your old switch.
Even worse, since the servers only track your latest 20 games, if you swap switches, then play a game outside of that 20, your playtime is effectively reset.
Literally already in the middle of opening up every game I own to do this. I got through all of the ones still downloaded and currently working through the archived ones (which I need to download, then archive to have enough space for the rest to do more of the the same) then will go through my physical games lol
It's... A process. But I've been on a kick of clearing up backlog and taking inventory of what I've got as we get closer to next gen, so this was a great find!

I tried this based on the gvg video and it doesn't work for me. I've done all the recommended steps, but I never get the Nintendo switch section in my profile.
Oh wow I figured it out. When you enter your friend code you aren't supposed to include the dashes. That was the problem for me anyway

Im often switching (no pun intended) between mutiple switches. I have 2, my nephew has 1 & my little brother has 1. Im logged in to all of 4.
The timer on my game seems to reset everytime Im play on a different system from the last time I played
Just to let everyone know, if you at all moved consoles (i.e. lite to OLED) it does not carry over that play activity from the previous console, neither does the new switch.
Just started this morning and, after 10 mins of setup across PS4 and Steam, I had issues with Switch.
Tip #1. Enter your friend code WITH the hyphens (-).
Tip #2. Adjust privacy settings before syncing.
Tip #3. Switch sync may be slow due to increased activity on the website. Wait a few mins between attempts.
Got it working and up to 38 games now! No surprise to see Breath of the Wild on top the list at a modest 84 hours. 😅
I have problem with my playtime not counting on my switch profile and the website. I upgraded from my old switch and had this problem since then

I do like how I can automatically see my playtime on Steam games, but this is just too much extra work to have to visit a third-party site to see my Switch times.
Quickly! Give your data to a 3rd party website so it can tell you how much ball sweat you’ve acquired over your switch’s lifetime!

You're quite right mate, I do not feel comfortable using this random website or giving them permission to rummage through that much of my personal data.
The other major issue with having to enter all of your older games is for me, I don't have all of my games loaded onto my switch because memory is expensive and I'd rather spend my money on actual games. And who actually has the time or Internet speeds to delete their recent game rotations to download games they haven't played in a while and then redelete them and re download the games they actually play.
It would take almost as much time as it took to right this comment. Ah damn😅

It took me a week to transfer my games. At this point I'd take me at minimum a day to go through all my games. :(
I’m gonna be trying this out asap! Both Splatoon 3 and Animal Crossing are my most played games but the hours froze and don’t update anymore. Splatoon 3 has been frozen at 860 since last fall. I’m dying to know if I’ve broken 1000 hours.
I'd say don't get your hopes up, because the site fetches the same data as your Switch, the only difference is that it displays it in an exact manner.

I mean you can just do it with the games you either actually want to see or have actually played, rather than every single one. Unless you’ve played like 100+ Switch games.

The closest I’ve come to that level of tediousness was cataloging my games on Deku Deals. Not doing that again thankfully.

It's reasonably safe. I've been using the Switch feature since it came out of beta. All they can do is read your public profiles that you ask them to look at.
Do you need Nintendo Online for this?

it still doesn’t fully work, only counts the hours on your current switch since you’ve last reset it, not total all time. very lame.
earthbound would prob be my highlest clocked game...and NSO/SNES overall app.
I'm one of those people who has over a hundred hours in a handful of games and barely any playtime in my other games.
my top 3 are;
Monster Hunter Rise: 224h 25m
Breath of the wild: 147h 45m
Tears of the Kingdom: 142h 39m
i remember having like 400h+ on animal crossing back on 3ds

If u are comfortable with modding ur switch, install DBI and it would tell you how many hours, minutes and seconds of playtime you have for all the games on ur console
It also has many other features but that's not the topic of this video
Personally, i rather keep it for only certain specific games that shows my playtime on my game file more accurately, not every game will have it, but this is how i do it.

The sad part is, the Switch actually captures a lot of the data that you would expect from the Activity Log on the 3DS. Info such as first time played, average play time, exact time played, and so on. Nintendo just chose not to display that information. The only way to access it is through a homebrew app. But I'm not brave enough to try it, as I don't want my Switch banned by Nintendo. It just sucks that they once again get away with doing the bare minimum.

This won’t work for every game I’ve played since a lot of them I rented or borrowed! Still, very cool, and will be useful for keeping tabs on my most-played stuff if I give it a go.

No, it only takes from the 20 most recently played games, like the Switch itself does. So the Switch has the accurate playtime and the website takes that, it’s just annoying that the Switch says “played for 125 hours or more” when it knows the *actual* time

I don't think I need it down to the minute. The switch tells you how many hours you played and that's enough for me.

I wish your profile showed your hours in all your games not just the last 20 played games
You can do that by reopening every game on the Switch (and doing a manual update on Exophase every 20 games max.)
@superkoopamocha i mean like on the switch itself so u can see all yours friends hours in every game on the switch itself im honestly more annoyed it only shows u the past 20 games you played's hours than the fact it only shoes u on 5 hour intervals
Another big caveat. You may think that if you play an older game that is not on that list it would show your accurate playtime on switch and on the website... this isn't true. I learned this the hard way. Apparently, Nintendo only tracks the 20 most recent games AND games you played within the year. So if you haven't played a game in over a year, all your playtime will be lost. Not sure if this is intended but it seemed to happen to bunch of games I had lost and found a year or so later.
This isn't true for me at least, since there's loads of games I haven't played for over a year, which it has tracked perfectly.

This doesn't solve the frozen playtime issue, my mom played animal crossing for 1100 hours then it stopped counting and she's probably played it an additional 800 hours, yet the website in this video only shows 1102 hours played. This was pointless for us as the whole reason we checked it out was to resolve this frozen playtime issue since Nintendo itself refuses to.

This just made me annoyed at how poorly the Switch tracks play time. It credits me with 4 minutes in Breath of the Wild. Like, I found every Korok. That number may be accurate...in hundreds of hours.
