I find Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs to be really impressive as an adaptation because...in the book on which this movie was based, it was just a short bedtime story that a grandpa was telling to his grandkids about stuff that happened to a special town that rained food. It didn't have any named characters in the story. That means adapting the book into a movie was free real estate for this movie's writers to come up with their own new characters. That takes a lot of guts and imagination to put characters into a longer version of a book that did not have any of them, so I am proud of them for doing that. June 17, 2021, 6:06pm
Seriously! It's not like Dr Seuss adaptations where the original books are complete stories, have clear messages, and are creative in a way that is irreplicable to the point where any addition for a full movie is filler. Cloudy is a book that has very little set in stone and just has the general story of "food takes over the island but it's cool for a while" leading to tons of possibilities to expand the story such as "How did it happen?", "Who caused it?", and "What else was going on here?" This story had creativity that could be built off of, and Sony absolutely did that when creating this movie. I recently rewatched this movie and loved it. The story is simple, the premise is fun, the comedic elements are top notch, and the emotion is there. I wish this idea of adapting small, basic stories made with heart into fully fleshed stories was something done more often in animation, because this movie would be the gold standard for that archetype of film.

...dang. This all hit way too close to home. Been dealing with a lot of this myself lately. Pretty much my whole life, actually. I've sat in fear of failure for so long, that I've never actually gone out and done it. I've experienced so many times saying or doing the wrong thing that I've just stopped trying, frankly. I've been in a rut that I haven't been able to get myself out of. I've been complacent. I know I need to move forward. But I simply can't. Because I know whatever I do, whatever I try, I'll do wrong somehow. It's just who I am. All that to say this was an excellent video. Maybe this will give me the kick in the butt that I need. Who knows.

13:59 Don’t worry Nick, your videos are worth it. At least to me, in this one video you: made me realize how many amazing projects Lord and Miller made, realize the importance of the relationship between directors and the studios behind movies, inspired me to continue working on this animation project that’s been taking forever (even if turns out to ‘fail’ because I can still learn), and remember that even content creators with large followings, like you, still have the same doubts as me. At the very least you have entertained and there is value in that. Your videos are worth it.
That intro...I truly felt that. One of the things I do a whole lot is make ideas for video games, movies, and other entertainment media. But literally later in the day, I have these doubts, like these ideas will never get to see the light of day that would be reality. They would stay as...ideas. So thanks, for reminding me that I'm not the only one who goes through this. Even a main protagonist in a movie, (that lived in my childhood), goes through doubt too. But we all get through it, even Flint Lockwood.
This was my favourite movie when I was 7-8 years old. I got the DVD for Christmas back in 2012 and I watched it everyday and all the time. I rewatched it recently and I still absolutely love it today. This movie will always have a special place in my heart. ❤
I saw this movie in theaters as a teenager and absolutely loved it. After dozens of watches over the years I still laugh every time i see the fuckin ratbird kidnap a child in the background. The last day of my computer lesson is a free time and we are allowed to watch movies together, it was supposed to be a fun day. But others braver than me decided to watch horror movies instead. My teacher wouldn't let me curled up and covering my face with a pencil case for two hours so she brought me to her computer, and let me watch Cloudy with a chance of meatball. A foreign animated movie who I thought was childish. Turns out I loved it. Since then, that movie has always given me a sense of comfort. I start to watch more. Without it, maybe I wouldn't be talking in English right now.

Until now, I never realized the reverse trope they pull with Sam. Usually the girl lets her hair down and takes off her glasses to make the other characters see she’s actually hot, but in this Flint puts her hair up and puts her glasses on. Still can’t understand how flint slams his keyboard with his hands when typing
So, you mean to say that you DON’T violently gyrate your open palms against a keyboard when writing code?
he's just built different
Mans is like Jim Carrey
It’s supposed to be a slight joke about how people who type fast don’t make sense

I’ve always thought it was fantastic! In fact it’s one of my favorite movies.
I like the second one just as much. the plot twist I pretty funny, too.
Same I like the sequel better to be honest
this movie's dad reminded me of my dad a lot, my dad cant express his emotions well either, and the ending really made me tear up
I’m glad that the character of Tim Lockwood has gained a following through memes. He is a funny meme, and he was a good character in the film as well.
I sympathized with him
That speech the dad says to flint at the end of the movie makes me tear up every single time. I don't know why.
Is anyone gonna say his name is flint Lockwood

HE'S FRIGGIN BACK! FRIGGIN NICK'S BACK! After I heard you getting a little emotional during the later parts of the video I couldn't help but think that I should congratulate you on getting this far. I haven't been a subscriber for super long, but all the time I have spent so far I am so satisfied and very proud of you and your work. I have fun watching these and they light my day up. I think the reason why my childhood self loves this movie so much is that I really like the idea of living on food? idk just imagine sleeping on a giant bread or swimming in soda, and sitting on a jelly chair or something, it's weird I know, but it feels like a dream to my inner child self lol
Bro you weren't alone back then, I adored this freakin movie as a kid
We've missed you man. I hope you had a nice break Nick. But still back with another banger.

The ending speech kinda made me tear up since for the longest time I've been doubting my abilities as an artist being too afraid to disappoint myself. I guess what I needed was to hear one of my favorite youtubers tell me to just do it and that things will turn out good with persistence. So thank you, and keep doing what you're doing.

Who knows.
Hey man, I don’t know you at all but I want to let you know that there are things that you’ll do right, and you’re gonna find your place one day

Bro I believe you can do this as you’re just looking at it the wrong way and I know it’s hard to change something that you’ve thought for such a long time but spotting that it’s just delusion is a start and also find the right people who no matter what won’t kick your confidence down and do what makes you happy

Coraline, 9, and Cloudy were all released in 2009. A year for such banger animated movies.

Maybe I'm too emotional but being reminded of when the dad comes back to support Flint with the lab coat made me tear up
That intro...I truly felt that.
The art style is a mix between the incredibles and ratatouille
And don't forget Clone High.
i cant get enough of the shot where flint asks his dad to look him in the eye and his unibrow slowly rises😭😭
I saw this movie in theaters as a teenager and absolutely loved it. After dozens of watches over the years I still laugh every time i see the fuckin ratbird kidnap a child in the background. And the fact they paid Neil Patrick Harris to come in and basically say like 5 lines in total as the monkey brings me so much joy.

I was in my 11th grade, where kids my age don't watch animated movies anymore.
The last part of the video made me cry. I’ve watched only a few of your videos, and the way you explain these movies are so in depth and detailed. This is great. I needed this. I’m glad I found this channel

Until now, I never realized the reverse trope they pull with Sam. Usually the girl lets her hair down and takes off her glasses to make the other characters see she’s actually hot, but in this Flint puts her hair up and puts her glasses on. Sam did a lot just to make it as a reporter, even sacrificing 20/20 vision just to appear attractive on TV and be somewhat successful.
i love how this movie is comforting to my eyes
Aw I remember this movie when I was 4. I wasn’t even a kid yet, it was such a distant memory.
