One Owner Ferrari 308 QV - What to look for

  • The Ferrari 308 QV, which stands for Quatrovalve, or 4 valve.
When fuel injection was introduced to Ferrari models in the 80's it killed
horse power. The solution was Ferrari's 4 valve engines which regained all the power lost by while still maintaining EPA compliance.
Over $18,000 was just spent on this Ferrari 308 QV to make sure it is in top notch condition. ensuring that when you turn the key it fires up without
issue, shifts smooth, and sounds as a V8 Ferrari truly should. This car
ticks all the boxes, not only is it freshly serviced but it is also a 1 owner from new car with just under 10,000 miles, making it extremely desirable.

The Ferrari 308 - quite possibly the greatest car design ever.

I owned an 85' 308gts QV about 10 years ago. I regret selling it, since then the value has more than doubled and it was such a fun car. The neighbor kids would yell "Magnum PI" whenever I drove by. People stopped me everywhere to photograph the car or to ask for rides. (which I always gave them). It was 5 years of joy. I consider it automotive art. Beautiful design.

I agree. Very, very underrated body style. The 288 GTO, for example, is one of the most beautiful mid-rear engined Ferrari I've ever seen, and this body style isn't far off.

it may not compete with modern cars as far as performance and power specs are concerned but to me, it is one of the most beautiful automobiles ever made. timeless lines that just oozes sexiness. and major points for being so period low tech

Also available in Europe was the 208GTB/GTS; a turbocharged 1996cc V8. As well from 1983, Ferrari offered the Mondial 8 in the quattrovalvole configuration. John Pogson has a wonderful video on this car (and a little lecture about haters, too!) Thanks for this video. I'm 50 now and have been tracking all things Ferrari from the 308 to the early 90's with the F355 and 456 models. It's nice to see it objectively broken down and discussed in its original configuration.

    Hello Colleen. 🙂
First at all thank you very much for sharing these beautiful cars with us.👍
But I have to correct you; sorry.
The Swiss is located in Europe, yes. But they are not part of the European Union; in fact the Swiss is "neutral" and they do their own stuff. For example the emission and safety standards are different; compared to the other european countries.
That affects for e.g. the technical / mechanical specifications of the "Swiss" cars. And therefore the so called "European Version" is not exactly the same like the "Swiss Version". You can check this by decoding the VIN.
The engine numbers for the swiss (and swedish) version and for the european version are different, because they are different engines with different horse power. At least for newer Ferraris.
For a better understanding I could say: The swiss and the swedish versions came with the european body (no side markers and no heavy bumpers) but with the power reduced north american engine.
I don't know the engine of this 308 in this video; but it is a swiss version and could have less HP than the european version. Maybe.
I say this, because many american buyers think they will get the european version (full hp) when buying a swiss car, because they don't know the differences.
Please don't get my criticism wrong. I think we all can learn every single day. 👍
    Engine Type (F106) / Remarks
    - F106B040 / US version
    - F106A021 / Euro version (wet sump), only used on a few late UK versions.
    - F106A / Euro version (dry sump), only used on a few late UK versions.
    - F106 / AUS version. Although listed in official documents, it was never used.

Just beautiful, and sounds a lot better on that non-standard exhaust. But then the original Ansa had probably rotted out while the first owner spent 40 years watching this lovely thing degrade. How sad! I really hope the next owner actually drives and enjoys it rather than protecting his investment. If he does, a set of 16" wheels and tyres would be a cheap investment to replace those metric-sized TRXs which are not only not very good tyres my modern standards but also hideously expensive to source from Michelin. Can always keep the TRXs for concours outings!

The 308 was the first Ferrari I ever laid eyes on and my jaw dropped to the floor. It was so amazing and beautiful. I think it was either '79 or '80. I don't even know what the name was or how to pronounce. The following weekend I told my parents to drive by the dealership which I stumbled upon to show them the car.
To this day I still think the 308 and it's variants is one of the most beautiful Ferrari design ever. The only reason the price hasn't gone crazy is due to the huge number being built and it's not a outrageously impressive performance car.

Great Video .. I never liked the Body flex I saw on my 308 with the top off , between that and the HI cost of Maint. is why I sold mine .. But the Best driving experience you could have ...Pretty car .. but the Hard top has prettier lines .. Most owners don't know you need to do the Maint. ever tho you don't drive the car very much .. to keep the value and have the car worked on By a Ferrari tech .. these are things the dealership will not tell you when you by your first ferrari .. well in the 80's they did not tell me when I got mine ..Your lucky you grew up around these cars " Keep Up the Good work" thanks

Its my dream car also, I watched Magnum PI when I was a kid too. A few years ago I discovered these cars horrible flaw, the Bosch K-Jetronic CIS Injection system, which makes them much underpowered. It just sprays fuel continuously in the inlet manifold and that too at a wrong angle. I guess the engines could make well above 300hp with a standalone ECU with electronic injectors and distributor-less ignition. I also read somewhere that the tire spinning on the grass at the beginning of each Magnum PI was so because the engine was underpowered! It could not do a proper burn-out on asphalt! Anyways I like the car aesthetics and body styling. It does have double wishbone suspension all around making it good at handling around the corners.
