There's something about the balance in the shape of this thing that's just utter perfection.. the Dino is a very very pretty car, but somehow I think the 308 is more balanced. Would utterly love to own one one day

Glad to hear you're enjoying it! I took mine on a track day once, just to see what it was like and was really surprised with how much better it was than I expected. I've had a couple of Elises and light weights, so know what something decent handles like. Give it a go. Also, I found that vaseline on the seals quietens down the squeaky roof pretty well.

Enjoyed that. All said and done, it's an old car and things go wrong and nothing lasts forever. Those numerous problems, both minor and not so minor, are a good way of getting to really know a car and making it live on and a nicer place to be. A constant learning curve which never stops in my experience. Over decades of both new and old cars, I get much pleasure, more than taking delivery of any new car, fixing up a used one which a previous owner with little under the bonnet "nouse" has given up on. Turn that key and hear my work burst into life.. I'll never tire of that experience. Keep up the good work.

Replace your tin bullet fuses with good copper/ceramic ones. I get mine through a vintage MB site. The ones you have oxidize and lose good electrical connection. The copper ones do not do the same thing. It really makes a big difference in these cars.

I am so glad that I found you channel - you quickly became one of my favourite youtubers - so relateable, not cocky and interested in finding pure driving pleasure. You addressed a lot of topics that my friends and me are discussing all the time: Modern steering is unresponsive (we all drive F3x or F2x w/ M Sport package and further modified suspensions - we tried modern Audis and Mercedes but they were even far worse than the BMW steering and driving feel), that older cars had more feedback and a more honest feel of driving (we ALL had e46s a few years ago) :) keep up the good work on the channel!

Your enjoyment of the car is quite infectious. And a pleasure to watch. Many years ago I had the pleasure of owning a 308...very early fuel injected 308 GTSi. To this day I regret selling it. I didn't appreciate it as the keeper it is. Wonderful to drive...as you point out the shifting of the gears is like slow dancing with beautiful woman...and the build quality was amazingly better than I had expected. I will continue to enjoy your experience with your 308 and remember my own.

Oh boy Jack, she's definitely out to test and prove your utmost love for her. Just like a true woman! The emotional roller coaster we've seen you riding over the past few weeks has been incredible. Italian cars are not for the faint hearted! Back in 1989, I owned an '85 Alfa Romeo 33QV (in red of course)! She also made some great noise, and went like a "cut cat", but oh boy, the electrics were terrible, and the gearbox synchros... To this day, I still have 1 of her main gearbox ball bearings on my desk as a paperweight that cost me NZ$1000. I reckon she was a "Thursday car" before a Easter weekend! Just love the 308 though!

great to see you enjoying being fully committed in getting the influenzo running properly, also that you’ve ditched your jammies! the ferrari v8 runs a flat crank thus works like a pair of in-line 4 cylinder engines in tandem, thus it’ll never sound like a burbly american v8!

As a viewer/older car owner, I feel your “pain”. My turbocharged S2000 always seems to need something to run perfectly, but when it does, oh the fun. My Porsche 911/997 Carrera S is much more reliable, but since I don’t drive it everyday, she can be cranky and needy, at times. Then add in a couple 10-20 year old sport bikes, there is always some kind of mechanical tweaks that need to be done to something. I am not complaining, trust me, I’m living the dream, but owning and working on my dream vehicles makes me love and appreciate my heroes in a different way.

If my own experience is anything to go by, 50% of the love you’re feeling for the 308, is a result of your victory over all it’s issues - like a reverse labour of love, where the love is as a result of all the labour.

As far as roof squeak goes, you can start by cleaning all moldings to make sure that they aren't brittle. Then you can check the foward alignment pins to see how much play you have in the roof when seated. Increasing the pin length will seat the roof further back towards the rear, compressing the rear edges, and reducing the windshield frame contact area. Try to determine if you are having rear or forward squeaking, and adjust accordingly.

I know you've had problems with this fantastically beautiful car, I suspect you always knew you would ... but!!! ... my god what a piece of aesthetic perfection! There is not a single line on this car that isn't the purest representation of 'beauty' that I have ever seen! As an 8 year old my father gave me a book about Ferrari's, two of them stood out to me, neither of which I can separate in the eye candy stakes .... they are the 308 GTS and the 288 GTO. I have always dreamed of owning one of these (and likely never will), once as a 13 year old I was lucky enough to be a passenger in a 308 GTS and I still remember every second of the experience to this day. The sound of it, the inside of it, the outside of it, the feeling of cornering on rails and of course the looks on the faces of the kids in the back of 'that' car .... craning their necks to get a look as we blew past ... and you knew exactly what they were thinking and saying ...as I do every time I see one of these .... 'WOW ... its a Ferrari!' .... but to me, not just any Ferrari ... the most beautiful car or material thing I have ever seen!
I can't hide or help my jealousy and neither does it bother me! Love these videos mate! Keep them coming. I'm a 205 fan too but if you can sneak in even just a few seconds of 308 to those specific 205 videos I will be forever in your debt! Fantastic Car ... i'm trying to find other words to describe this beauty but I have none ... only the words of Italian painter and philospher Carletti when defining beauty ... 'it is a summation of all of the parts working together in such a way that nothing need be added, taken away or altered'. Simply perfection ...even if admittedly a little needy ;) Great job!!

Great video, love your channel, so glad I found it. I used to own an MX5 with the folding hardtop which used to squeak on the front location sockets, tried vaseline and hey presto. A friend of mine bought a new 1.6 205 GTI in the mid 80's and I was quite impressed. At the time I had an escort company car and a 1970 Elan +2S130 as my fun car which was fantastic. Keep the video's coming, Cheers

That noise, I thought, sounds like terminal damage, what a relief, she is definitely making you work for it, or rather, making you earn her respect because others had neglected her previously. Another great video, keep them coming

Absolutely loving this series, thanks so much for sharing your experience. This was always a dream car for me when I was growing up. Not trying to be critical, but the reason the "Italian Driving Position" is not an issue for you is due to your unorthodox seating position and wheel control. Your arms are way too straight and you shuffle the wheel at the slightest of curves. Again, not criticising, you do what works for you. Just saying that if you were to adopt a more orthodox driving position / wheel control (ie elbows at 90 degrees, hands at quarter-to-three, and only shuffling the wheel as an exception rather than the rule) then you would feel the issues of the "Italian Driving Position" pretty quickly. The wheel is too far away and on too much of an angle to allow proper wheel control while still remaining comfortable.

Talcum powder on the seals may help reduce the squeak. Love the extra bit at the end - We had something similar on our Golf except the fan blade ate the radiator and we disappeared in a cloud of steam!

Personally I prefer some rubber maintenance fluid www.amazon.co.uk/SONAX-340200-Rubber-Protectant-Liters/dp/B0024X24ZA. Works wonders especially on frameless doors in the winter.

Even with the problems your going through. The 308 is still beautiful. I've been fortunate that at the age of 13 my father bought a new 308 back in 1983. He's still got it and it's only covered 14000 miles since and is still like brand new. You can't beat the sound of that v8 when it starts up even the quautrovalvole. Keep at it as it's a privalage to own.

I had no idea you were a DIY mechanic of this caliber. The Influenzo chronicles, while being riveting with its numerous twists, also shows a new side of supercar ownerships often glossed over in other channels. How much more would this 308 would have cost a owner without your skills I wonder.

To solve the squeaking roof: put some baby powder on the rubbers. Like you said: the rubbers are absorbing the silicon, so it’s not working. Baby powder makes the rubbers less greasy/sticky and the rubber parts move smoothly without squeaking. It solved the squeaking targa roof of my 911. Great video and love your car, hope to have a Ferrari one day.

For roof seal noises use Krytox gpl105. That is what Mercs use for their retractable roof seals. Just a little goes a long way. No noises after application.

Classic Ferrari ownership at its best! Always full of surprises and will forever leave you with that element of doubt should you wish to take it on a journey of any distance!, BUT I’d still have one in a heart beat

I can't believe how EXACTLY your description of Classic Ferrari ownership matches my feelings about my TVR Chimaera 500. I have never loved a car like that, will try to NEVER see it go (had been a dream for 20 years before I finally bought it) BUT it gives me tingly fingers (excitement AND fear of the unknown that might happen) at the thought of even going 10 miles and back. By the way, the next one on my list has always been a Ferrari 328 GTS....

Squeaky roof will only get worse with silicone, clean it off & try something I think it’s called Gummepflege bought some for my squeaky BMW door seals.
    Worked a treat
Came in a small roll on bottle, not cheap from BMW dealer, but does the job. Enjoying your journey 👍
