We drive the new four-cylinder Skoda Kamiq and see how this small SUV compares.
Is this the Skoda Kamiq you’ve been waiting for? Now available in turbo four cylinder petrol form, the Kamiq Monte Carlo and Kamiq Limited Edition pack more power, more torque and greater refinement than their 85TSI siblings. But is it really enough to warrant the step up in price - the four cylinder is considerably more expensive than the turbo three.
The 2021 Skoda Kamiq competes squarely with the Mazda CX-3, Toyota Yaris Cross and Ford Puma - all solid little SUVs.
In today’s video, Tom takes a detailed look at the sportily styled and suspended Kamiq Monte Carlo 110TSI to give you detailed insights about this vehicle.

I am driving the Skoda Kamiq, same engine but not Monte Carlo. Quality is good, engine fine, lot's of space in the back, truck is o.k., technical features are up-to date, the sport seats are awesome different to the stock once, fuel consumption is between 5,9 and 6,4 liters/100km. All in all, the Kamiq is a very nice car. Would I buy it again? Definitely YES!
Wow! Next 21 hours and next review. I'm really impressed with all your tests and now, additionally with your efficiency. Great job Tom! Regards from Poland
Upping the pace! Thanks for watching. Cheers
Just bought one of these, can't wait to pick it up!
I love the Kamiq Monte Carlo, very comfortable seats and handling but the deal breaker for Australian summers was the glass roof. After test driving the Kamiq and Scala range I found the Scalas to have more road noise and less rear window visibility.
After initially ordering a Candy White Kamiq 85TSI I was told (after a week) that the factory will not be producing the base model for export until 2022.
Choices in the 85TSI were then limited to what is already in the country with hotter premium colours or all the add-on packs ($31,000-39,500). Consequently, we decided to order the Limited Edition.
isn't the glass roof being sheilded with a roof cover? is it still pretty glass house inside due to the sunroof? i am thinking to go for the signature edition
many thanks for mentioning the DSG in quite some length👍🏻
Thank you for your review, it's really good and informative, good technical info too. I'm sold.
Nice review from Tom👌
nice vid. . . .those front seats looks so hugging. noting that power is the same as Tiguan entry here in South Africa
Great review Tom, when will you be reviewing the 2021 Limited Edition?
Really good review Tom, I do like this version of the Kamiq but that price is a bit too steep for me!
Much nicer backdrop than the drab seaside carpark. Love the location shots, makes it visually look better. You also seem more relaxed (less scripted). Personal opinion is that this car is better than what else is on offer from it’s similar priced competitors. I’d drive it
Thanks for the feedback. Glad you’re enjoying the vids.
Thanks Tom. Can you review the 2021 Honda Odyssey when that gets in?
Love this car ordered in black Monte Carlo
Hi Tom, another great review!
When will you get your hands on the new Touareg V8? 🙌🏻
I wouldnt buy another car for the rest of my life if I had that one 👍
Very 👍 nice , do you have a grey one to show?
Australian Kamiq’s don’t get the rear armrest with cup holders because of Australia’s requirement that we have both ISOFIX and top tether mounts for all 3 seats. Europe only requires ISOFIX points, not both.
Would be interesting to see a comparison between this in a limited edition and a Seltos GT
Nice review, definitely shortlisted. How's the drive and ride compared to the T-Roc Style? Ends up being about the same price or thereabouts.
I would love a comparison of these two
Hi Tom, great review, can you mention the fuel economy in your reviews please?
Jeff, you’ll see consistent titles for fuel economy being incorporated shortly (alongside other running costs like service pricing, warranty and an insurance quote). As for the Kamiq 110TSI I saw about 6.5-7.5L/100km depending on driving style.
Yes please instead of talking about 3 cylinder engine which isn't even in this car !
How is this car compared to the last model ford c-max when it comes to interior space in the front? I'm 6'6" (2 meters) and I'm wondering if this will car will fit. the c-max was fine.
Hey Tom when the scala review coming.
He did it about a week ago. :)
Surprising how different the spec is compared to UK versions which appear amongst other things, to lack heated steering wheel and rear seats together with the rear camera.
Thanks Tom. NZ ones have the 2021 steering wheels. That one is a 2020 model over here.
Interesting! The launch of the four cylinder was delayed in Australia for quite a while, which probably explains that discrepancy.
@@chasingcars the MY2021 with the new steering wheel are available online, but there are no nets and no removable boot light.
Thanks for this review. I’m a country driver that is looking for a small SUV. I have narrowed down my choices to this or a seltos. I think this might have the edge
If given a choice between those 2, Id take the skoda too, check out the Hyundai kona too, he had a video yesterday
Go the Seltos. Got it down to the same two but the engine on the Skoda was just too meek got country roads and freeways.
If your using your own money it's a no brainer go for the seltos 7 year warranty Hyundai and Kia have proven to be very reliable long term which equates to excellent resale value down the track.unlike a used euro SUV very hard to dispose of once warranty expires 5y later as they have a habit of turning into endless money pits hence resale goes into free fall like a brick dropped from a window
Did you drive the Kamiq with the four cylinder? And there’s really not evidence of Skodas and Volkswagens turning into “endless money pits” if they’re maintained - but unlike some cars they don’t respond well to not being serviced on time!
@@chasingcars I drove the 3 cyl, the lag under 2000rpm just killed me after 45 mins of driving, and found I had to push it hard for a 80km road. Beaut car otherwise, but Seltos just sat on the road better, CVT was impressive and robust.
The skoda is nice and sml suv .But the driveway price.is a tad heavy .Great review Tom .
Name me a car, that has equal components and fit and finish, that is cheaper ?
Why There are No Fog Lamps??
Great review, very limited on the reviews for the Monte Carlo Kamiq in Australia.
Nice to see that you enjoyed it, and it still looks like the right choice of car for myself.
Pick up my Magic Black one next month 👍
Why There are no Fog Lamps????
Do you guys expect the prices to reduce after the pandemic? For all car Brands
Baker Street makes another appearance.
An excellent car.
I drove the 110 limited edition the other day and I thought it was gutless (my usual drive is a diesel Kia Sorento and it has a lot more acceleration off the mark).
It's nippy
@chasing cars: @1:26 the interior is not compatible with the trim level you are reviewing.
great review, nice car, but I can't help but notice how cheap the seats look.
Thanks. Yeah, I’d prefer they had gone a leather/suede mix as they tend to do for some of their cars but hey, they are comfortable.
Its like the seat arona, do you have seat in aus?
It has 4 - 5 seats.
@@iancognito8047 No, SEAT as in the Spanish Car Maker which is owned by VW Group like Skoda. Its really like SEAT's Arona model
Nice!
Air controls: "Neither simple nor clever". That's what my Mum stitched to all my clothing, and now I'm 61 I see no reason to change.
Any chance you Aussies can get normal seasons like we do here in LLLLooonnnnnnddddddoooonnn ?
Looks a lot like my Kia Seltos, wish they would come to North America via VW...
Does anyone know if Kamiq Limited Edition comes with AWD option?
All Kamiq are FWD only.
Skoda Kamiq vs Hyundai Kona 2021 vs Nissan Juke 2021, please suggest ??

I’ve been hanging out for this car to be reviewed so thanks for that. A few observations which give me pause:
- the flimsy sunshade doesn’t look like it would offer UV protection?
- dry clutch sounds like a nightmare waiting to happen. There’s a reason VW moved to wet clutch.
- regarding the MQGA0 platform, I’m not sure whether to consider this as a show stopper depending on what’s being compromised.
Otherwise, the car looks amazing and a compelling drive.
Ha! In Aussie we need to tint to prevent high up rays. Totes agree with u with the dry clutch. After 100k u be driving a lemon. Otherwise looks like a nice car!
You didnt mention actual fuel consumption on test ! A major omission !
7l/100km
My daily car has just clocked 100,000 miles - can’t see a three cylinder engine going that distance.
Of course they can.
IM LIKING IT WITH A TUNE
Someone spelt outputs wrong at 7:40 ish 🤣
ouptuts
I'm torn between Scala and Kamiq!
looks like BMW x1 from the side
A runout Octavia is better value if sticking to the Skoda range
True, though I’ve never liked the ride of the non-RS models of the current lineup. However, a base Octavia RS wagon is a very sweet ride...
Yes. There, I saved you almost 13 minutes.
I can't believe it's manual handbrake at this price
Much prefer a manual handbrake in a little car like this 👍
Been car shopping last couple days, and we basically dismissed the Kamiq over how cheap the door closes... I don't think we're even going to test drive it
Great story.
@@NH-bz9jv yeah I know! We didn't test drive it... ended up getting the new Sportage. No regrets! Everytime we see a Skoda we look at each other and say, "glad we didn't get the Kamiq!" And lol 😆
Good luck getting one. I'm waiting 8 months. For 1.5 tsi evo Monte Carlo
I can't speak for Skoda engines but in motorcycles the 3 cylinders are happier at revs and vibrate more than a 4 cyl of the same capacity.
Have no idea why that is.
A fan without a knob is simply dumb. I would set fire to that car within a week for that. Failed - get it out of my sight.
Hopefully banging the drum for a fan knob gets results at facelift time.
@@chasingcars Keep it up Tom as this 'knobless virus' is becoming pandemic. I wonder if when insurance studies show touchscreens lead to higher crash rates the premiums on such will increase? I like touchscreens but not for everything. I'm waiting for the day that voice commands control this stuff...
👍👍👍👍👍
I hate the Yaris Cross now...
Why?
Another car that is out of my price range. Wish prices weren't that steep.
By the way Skoda has been voted to best selling car in Switzerland for 2020 and is leader in last 3 years in the row, only in Australia is Skoda underrated which is good for the new customers to get a good deal from dealer!
@@StephenFogarty2023 Well done Skoda in down under!
The Monte Carlo is $40000+ drive away ! Your facts are wrong ×
Think the VW group needs to think multiple times before pricing Skoda cars. They are great, but heavily overpriced. We are expecting Kamiq launch in India in Mar 21. But the pricing will drive me away from the car as usual. The DSG issues are also known
They tend to be a little more affordable than their Volkswagen counterparts in Australia but they are usually better equipped and have more pleasant interiors. What they aren’t is bargain basement.
who the f*k are those people who need to adjust fan speed manually nowadays???
The Kona N-line has way more power & awd for similar money. Tom, you seem to be Skoda biased you rave about the 110tsi engine yet brushed off the more powerful 1.6t in in the Kona review.
I’m not. I’ve never owned a Skoda in any form. What I’m biased towards is refined, torquey engines paired to effective gearboxes. The Kona’s 1.6T is reasonably good, but Hyundai’s aged DCT is not good.
Couple of your shots are of a wrong car!
Noticed that. One or two Limited Edition interior shots made it in. Apologies.
Is it just me or Skodas are almost universally praised by car reviwers and yet still sell terribly compare to similarly priced Japanese or Korean options.
Car reviews sell some cars, seeing loads of the same car parked on driveways sells more
Yep. I think people are lazy and just buy what they see other people have, without looking around much.
When I was looking a year ago, I specifically compared Skoda and various other brands directly. The Japanese/Koreans were not as good, Skoda won easily.
I think the reason is because most people have never heard of a Skoda.
Because their priced too highly here in Oz ! Can get a Troc 110tsi for $40000 d/a !

Boring - no manual. Not a sports car.
Surprising how different the spec is compared to UK versions which appear amongst other things, to lack heated steering wheel and rear seats together with the rear camera.
You can add them called winter pack and info pack I ordered for the 2024 model carnt wait
