- Skoda Kamiq 2021 Review by Matt Brand Cars. The new Skoda Kamiq is (weirdly) the only Small/Compact SUV I have ever gotten excited about! The Kamiq is affordable, has a punchy 3 cylinder turbo petrol engine, and is JAM PACKED with all the latest tech. But how does it compare to the Volkswagen T-Cross? In today's in-depth expert car review, we're going to talk about that!

Do you prefer the looks of the Skoda Kamiq or the Volkswagen T-Cross? Which would you buy?!
Love the face of the Skoda, but the arse of the T-Cross!
I bought the Skoda Kamiq 2 weeks ago, love it! I got the Limited Edition 110TSI 250nm. It goes esp in sport mode off the start. I drove the TCross, the TRoc (BTW which has the same size engine in the entry level), the Seltos, the CX3, the CX30 and a bunch of other disappointing cars in comparison, the new Forester, the Hyundai Venue (no comparison), the Toyota CHR was okay but I dislike it's crazy styling which I think is good for young people but not for me - it's also tiny in the back seat. This car rocks big time, to get an idea, I traded in an Mercedes Benz ML350 CDI 350 AMG 2010 model and this car has the equivalent features with amazing fuel economy. The features are to rave about. I also got the Stargazer Sunroof, which makes this big car feel even bigger. I'd totally recommend it. I got a great deal at my local Skoda. They gave me 5 years servicing normally $1400 free.
@@ausluxuryopals4712 I liked the T-Cross rear better than the Troc too. The lights are great.
@@floralvoiles1837 hey floral, how are doing mate? I am going to book 110tsi quartz grey limited edition today with stargazer sunroof and my local dealer said it is going to be delivered in early august. He did mentioned me $800 for 3 years or $1400 for 5 years but that’s not free. Can you advise me who is your local dealer? Or what extra I can ask them?
He is giving me nets, the door bin and umbrellas plus CTP for 12 months and black and white premium number plate.
Kamiq is far better equipped with a more attractive profile on road. With superior soft touch dash/door coverings.
Bought a used kamiq in UK last week, over the moon with it. Everything you need on it. Love it
No matter what other cars I look at, I really do keep coming back to the Kamiq everytime! Love the Monte Carlo. Great review!!!
Finally someone who can discuss the shortfalls of the dry DCT
Yeah time will tell. At least you have a long warranty just in case haha 😁
Getting my kamiq in about 6 weeks from now. This review got me hyped up to a level previously unknown to me.
Very enjoyable review Matt. I love the infectious sense of fun you convey! This review actually helped me with my decision to buy a Kamiq and I couldn't be happier with it. It's a joy to drive. By the way, the pattern on the upper daytime running lights is an homage to the Bohemia Crystal pattern, which, like Skoda, also hails from the Czech Republic.
Really like the Kamiq - best review on it too!
Thank you!
Great review. Seriously thinking about the Kamiq Monte Carlo but the increased 42K AUD price tag is a bit steep. Love your enthusiasm and real world driving. I also dig how you compare it to other similar cars. Keep up the good work!
interested if they change this in updates. Brilliant review and thank you for helping us choose our best new car ever!
Another solid review Matt
Thank you!
Great review, thinking about this little car.
Kamiq over the T-Cross any day but I would have liked driving lights. And don't dismiss the power tailgate so fast. We are an older couple and my wife has issues with her shoulders so this is a must. The tailgate also goes very high but you can save a height setting so my wife can reach the close button. Don't have one yet but it is topping our list right now.
Certainly not dismissing, it's just surprising! Goodluck with your purchase 🙂
Hi Matt
Thanks so much for your review as your enthusiasm for the Kamiq made us look at it in depth back in Jan 21 and then we bought the 1.5L LE. I know you liked the 3 cylinder variant but we wanted the greater power for smoother and quieter cruising. Love everything about this car except the air con controls as you mentioned and interested
just picked up the Skoda Kamiq 1.5 today - I nearly bought the Seat Arona but the Kamiq us far more classier you can feel the quality in the drive! I've laughed like Matt too since picking it up this morning - I cannot tell you how much homework I've done on the small SUVs you will just love it! x
Love your review attitude. When I am on the expressway going uphill at 50mph and need to pass a slow car, will the Kamiq give enought power (1.0 or 1.5)?
Great review. Can you do one on the Monte Carlo please ? 🙏🏻
I own it and I absolutely love it! 💙💙💙
Missed you Brando! Great review, surprisingly affordable for a compact crossover. Also comes with a 5 year warranty, not sure if you mentioned that :)
I don't remember now, but certainly does have a 5 year warranty 😁
And he's back, good review!
The Škoda is way better looking than the VW and nice job on pronouncing that accent above the S!
Thank you! And it felt very foreign haha, but glad I did it right 😂
Best looking small SUV on the market
Glad you're still alive mate. Although two negative things are no blind spot monitor and the handbrake is manual..
I bought the Kamiq and prefer the manual handbrake, can't bear the electronic ones, I keep reaching for a pull/push foot brake. I like that it's got all the tech + more and the good manual handbrake.
I'm alive and recovering, but will be back at full steam soon!
my son is learning to drive and this is where you guys will be appreciating the manual-hand brake
Sounds like I’m getting a Kamiq Monte Carlo
Best car under 300.000 DKK no discussion. Love that thing!
Can you do a review on the Kamiq Monte Carlo please?
I have driven both T cross and kamiq recently and I'm fully agreed with you, the kamiq is a way better car than T cross. For me, the soft material in the interior and the suspension performance on the highway are very impressive for such a budget car. I can say it is even better than my own Audi A4 B9 to some extent.
I search everywhere and look at the engines, the consumption on all brands... and in this category it is the best choice in all areas
Bought a Scala recently which is more or less the same car as this and been very happy. Agree with the dry DCT though, I don't like it and I hope it is reliable.
The keyless start/stop is an optional extra here in the UK, as are the load nets in the boot, and just about everything else. It still compares well with its rivals though.
I agree 100%. I love my Škoda Kamiq Style 85 kW DSG7.
The easy handling, space and finish.
I get more satisfied every trip 👍🏼
My previous car was a Škoda Fabia 1,2 90 HP 5 speed manual transmission.
Thank you very much! Good to know you're loving it 🙂
Still, after owning it for 5 months, we enjoy the car, which Is an easy ride, no matter how experienced a driver you are.
The fuel consumption is still 6 l / 100 km’s.
If you need more space than the trunk, it easily pulls a loaded trailer. (Up to 1,2 ton in Denmark)
Ps. Thank you for A great channel. Keep up the good work 👍🏼
Thank you!
There are ŠKODA, Seat, VWs and Audis with those 7 speed dry clutch gearboxes from the 1.0 to the 1.6TDI, and TSI units and there are no horror stories of those gearboxes failing. Some had 150k miles and are nearly 14 years old now and they are still absolutely fine. We run a 2015 fabia 1.2 TDI DSG dry clutch and it’s as smooth now as it was when it was new. Those gearboxes are designed to have a very low friction and the oil submersion adds drag which was VWs decision to not use a wet clutch system. Anything 150ps or above are wet clutch however. I don’t think either are a problem at all.
Ordered mine in the base spec with manual, but its an 8 month wait at the moment 😅 It's worth it though
I used to lease a Karoq diesel which was a great car. However the steep increase in prices meant I was forced to go for the Kamiq and I really thought that the 1 litre 3 cylinder engine would be under powered, but how wrong I was. The car is very smooth and cruising at 70mph (I'm in the UK) is very good. I can hardly hear the engine. Our medium sized dog fits nicely in the boot which I was worried about, The only downside is the pesky lane assist which I have to turn off every trip. Otherwise a super small SUV.
I’m interested but Skoda says sales of the Kamiq 85TSI will exhaust its current dealer stocks within a matter of weeks, with "little likelihood of re-supply before the end of 2021".
Please review 1.5L engine also
I'll look into it!
Nice :-) please try 1,5 TSI in Monte Carlo
which one got the digital dashboard?
Very helpful, I am struggling between a Kamiq & Puma, how do you say ? any insight n recommendation ?
I had to cancel the puma this week because I was unwell! Hopefully will know in a couple of months, but can say that Kamiq is absolutely fan-bloody-tastic
Depends on your purpose, size is a big factor difference, also the extra tech.
@@floralvoiles1837 given Kamiq has a lower price tag, a full digital cluster, it is extremely value for $, on the other hand, Puma is more stylish n better fuel economy, it's a difficult decision. Indeed I only need a 2 seaters, kid is grown up, he only need our company only a few times a year 🤭
Fuel economy is the same, so the Kamiq is better value all round and bigger, not sure about quality of the interior but Kamiq is a very high standard compared to most others and even better than the VW (which are plastic up ie TCross and T Roc). I bought a Kamiq so I'm biased and I didn't drive the Puma as I didn't consider it big enough. I like the style of the Kamiq over the Puma but I'm an older person and probably more conservative. The Kamiq shape does offer the extra space which is more impt to me anyhow.
@@CarSauce I am going to buy it for my wife, she will be the primary driver, I am looking for something ease of handling, swift n agile; stylish n safety are certainly a matter. Hopefully could be cover in your review
Get the 150 dsg. 100nm more torque, four cylinders and 150hp do make a lot of difference. You'll 0-60 in the 7 s if you get it right. Nice torquey engine that doesn't need to be revved above 4000 for good acceleration.
I think that Skoda could offer a stripped back Kamiq for around $24,990 and it would sell like hot cakes. Think 17” alloys, regular gauge cluster, smaller touch screen and manual air conditioning.
True, there's more different types of Kamiq models in Europe. Australia never seems to get the full range.
Skoda do offer a base model Kamiq in the UK. It has LED headlights, basic air con, and a small infotainment screen.
Is the indicator on Skoda Kamiq on the left hand side or right?
left
@@floralvoiles1837 thanks!
Just picked up my Kamiq this week and I’m loving it so far!
Can anyone tell me though how to adjust the air con at the back? Just can’t seem figure out how to change the settings for the back seat.
You can't. It just vents it through if you've got it set on facing you. No nob to adjust fan speed either. Only downside of the Kamiq.
@@mama9048 you can adjust the fan but turning the temperature dial up!
It’s bonkers how much value this is. Personally, I’m torn between this plus maybe the option pack (big maybe) and a Seltos Sport+ CVT for my next car.
I bought the Kamiq and might have bought the GT line of the Seltos except it was a 4month wait. No stocks in Australia.
@@floralvoiles1837 aww snap. Still selling like hot cakes, I see. Looks like Kia hit the motherlode with the Seltos.
It's amazing you can make a basically boring car seem pretty desirable!
Not boring at all very fun to drive, responds as good as CHR.
Thank you! I also thought at first it was going to be boring, but was really surprised but how non-boring it is
Why so less ads?
You need the bigger engine. Big is good 👍
I've ordered the 95PS basic modell here in Germany....better value as VW....
Nets and torch not in 2021 model and steering wheel has new look
In Europe maybe... But in Aus, the 2021 is still same as reviewed. We a bit laggy :p
I hope they are still there, they're fun to have 🙂
@@ashalim79 MY21 model has chrome scroll knobs on the steering wheel and the nets and torch have in fact been removed. Umbrella remains though
@@StevenG89 stupid dealer lied to me then! What dealer lies to their customer!! honestly! :P
@@StevenG89 I keep reading this but the torch is still in the brochure???
Unfortunately the local SKODA dealer has increased prices by 50 to 100% while the factory only increased by 3%. Just greed to take advantage of Australians during Covid shortage.
They also downgraded engines reduced standard features and will not bring in the new entry level Fabia as they don’t make enough money of this vehicle.
Shame local dealer greed has trashed a great car company
50 - 100% ? Can you explain?
No money to be made from a bae model when shipping is multitudes more
Inflation in the economy, even a Toyota costs 4-5k more than 2 yrs ago, and a 18 mth wait
I ended up buying a T-Cross Style. Scores the MY22 so at-least it now has DAB and some interior changes.
Loved the Skoda, but the main reason I went with the T-Cross is cause I’m buying the car for my mum. I just have the feeling she would be more comfortable owning a VW over a Skoda cause VW just has that more established name.
I got disheartened because they bought a very poor design of this car to India. I was planning on buying this car, but the Indian version is just shitty. I love this design. Very few cars looks so fine front and rear

You must be mad to buy the Skoda which is owned by Volkswagen which is a mucher bigger Company Skoda are on therte own no back up
Err, what??🤣🤣
They get to pick and choose from VW group. Then they make a better product and sell it the same or cheaper.
Too much talking
Brad does Skoda own Volkswagen? please let me know
iF YOU LOOK AT THE OVERALL STATS THE VW T CROSS IS MUCH BETTER IN COMPARISON TO THE SKODA KAMIQ SO I DONT THINK YOUR REVIEW IS CORRECT BY SAYING THE SKODA IS BETTER?
No, it isn’t. I had a t-cross for 2 years and I’ve have my Kamiq Monte Carlo for over a year and it is better in every area. Drives better, more comfortable, higher quality interior, more room inside, more standard equipment, better infotainment system. I could go on but I’m even boring myself now. Oh, and every single car reviewer who compares the Kamiq to the T Cross say the Kamiq is better. So, you are categorically talking nonsense. Oh, and please STOP SHOUTING!!🙄
