Wow.. That is a lot of work... But once you get it setup.. .You can animate it to do just about anything you want! Thanks for showing how SVG works in Fusion!
Yeah for sure, animation is a lot of work. And I cut a lot of corners here, refining the animations could take much longer. I also only rigged the main parts instead of actual joints. Maybe some day, I’ll do a full in-depth tutorial on animation, but honestly, it would be like a 7 hr class and have a retention time of 5 minutes. Lol.
Thanks! Animating in Fusion is actually pretty easy. It’s probably still easier to do small animations in AE, but I couldn’t imagine animating a very large project in AE vs Fusion. Its nice to be able to group and parent assets by just moving them around on the node panel. As the project size increases, this would get much harder in AE while in Fusion it pretty much stays the same.
Indeed. That's why they pre comp every thing. Not to take anything away from AE, as I have never used it. But I agree, honesty, people havent realized how easy it is to work with large projects in Fusion and node based editing. I love how you are pushing the envelope and exposing people to what it can do.
I still use AE for a lot of things, but Fusion has been my go-to for the last 6 months. Fusion is so close to overtaking AE, if only Blackmagic would put in all the features I keep telling them I need lol.
Thanks man! I searched for a hint where to start and everyone seemed to say: don't do it, the software is not made for this. But it seems pretty straight forward to me, at least for my needs.

Blackmagic should try to fix SVG imports, I was going crazy thinking there was some issue with inkscape. It's not nice at all to be cleaning up every single svg

Agree with that. On another note, one thing that might speed up your process here is Affinity Designer has a tab that connects to Pixabay and lets you search by vector. And lets you export as svg.
Inkscape can export svg files. I was playing with svg logo imported into blender and creating a 3d model to import into fusion. keep the videos coming.....
Thanks. Why is some of my vector blurry after resizing in Fusion? It's too small after importing but when I resize it, it becomes blurry just like raster would.
Try resizing it closer to the mask node. If it is after a transform or merge, it will rastor, cant recall which nodes rastor exactly but try resizing after the polygon.
Hi, I was wondering if it mattered if each group was connected to their merge node by foreground and background, in my case when I import my character, the parts I want to group together also have different merge nodes.
I just create a vectoe avatar with separate limb joint for animation using inkscape, but when I Import the SVG file into Davinci, the node are so long and unorganized. How can I fix this?
Have to clean it up like i did in this video. The other option would be to build the vectors in Fusion. Or simplify the vectors before bringing them into DaVinci. This all depends on how complicated the graphic is. If its too crazy when you bring it in, id just remake it in fusion.
Is this easily scalable for resolutions? like I could import it at 1080, but lets say I need to export it at 4k later could I scale it up then export it without loosing quality? or do I got this all wrong?
Hey I'm having a little trouble, hoping to get some help. DaVinci Resolve is not letting me import an SVG file. It gives me the option to but when I do import it nothing happens. No nodes show up at all.
Super helpful tips, thank you! Do you know a place where to find presets of finished animations like this, which I can then import into davinci? Keep up the great work :)
This is an example of why Adobe has a strangle hold on the industry; compatibility. All that "clean up" is deal breaker. Hopefully they improve the SVG import. 😬
So the center of the layer and ancchor point is 2 different things in Fusion? For instance sometime I move the text layer to other side of composition, but when adding transform node later on - it doesnt appear at the center of the text layer. is there a key command to align them when adding?
The anchor is the center by default, but it can be moved independently. Text layer is a little different as it has all its own animation features so a transform node added later would default its anchor to the center of the connected node flow resolution.
Hi ! I'm currently working on a curve animation... so SVG would be my solution, but IDK why, when I import an SVG from affinity Designer (which says my layer is a curve) DaVinci expand it as a shape, but I really don't want that as I'm trying to make a "writting effect" with the name of the Artist I'm working for... Do you eventually would now why there is this "automatic" curve to shape "expand" in Resolve ? And maybe a solution to that kind of problem ? Furthermore, it doesn't react as this for the other layers I exported as SVG from Designer... I'm a bit confused here x')
Really cool how you have mastered this! But I must have missed something. Did you explain how to "sync" shadows so they seem more realistic? I didn't see any shadows on the completed animation, but if I wanted to have shadows convincingly follow, say, the arm movements, based on the angle of light in the scene, can I do that? It would help to more convincingly turn this into a 2.5D cartoon.
Sorry, not this time. I removed all the shadows to make it easier to animate. As for 2.5d, after all the transform nodes, add a DVE node and you’ll get some good 2.5 animation, but it will make your control area a little more crowded. I have some ideas on syncing shadows, but since the XF pivot doesnt impact the flip transforms, it might require some ingenuity. I’ll look into it.
Thanks for this tutorial, I couldn't figure out how to get a vector in. So I saved my illustrator vector as .SVG but when I go to import it through the "Import > SVG," I click on the file and the window closes without asking me dimensions to import as, and my file isn't showing up. I've tried saving as SVG 1.0 and SVG 1.1 profiles, but neither of them seem to matter. Any idea how to fix this and get my media to import correctly?
Many thanks! A good starting point for me, as I'm new to fusion animations and coming from AE still have to get used to the node concept (which I think is great, once you've really got it). Not totally sure if that is correct, but I think instead of creating a new mask to hide the right arm behind the body, you could have also use the body node itself as a mask, right? Anyway very straight forward and good to follow tutorial!
Yup, you're absolutely right. I could have used the Body (shape layers) to mask out the arm and inverted the Mask input in the Merge Node. For the sake of keeping my flow clean without having extra pipes, I made a new mask since it was just one little piece, but if I need to mask out several things, it would be much more efficient to pipe the actual shape layers from the original and run it into the merge or create a new merge node prior to attaching to the BG pipeline. There is also a wireless link node that probably should have been used in this specific instance, but I'll save that for a later tutorial. Cheers!
@@CBSuper another way would be to check "hide incoming connections" if you wanna reuse the node but dont necessarily want the pipes cluttering the flow
You bet, but I actually dont use that much as it makes troubleshooting tougher down the road when i forget that its on. Ha ha. I like to see the connections but i want them clean, I’m a needy Fusion user.

Is there a limit of 2 backgrounds per merge? Wondering how I can achieve the same movement for the shoe (and I'll be combining this with the leg) when the design is more complex. Thanks!!
Yes, limit is two objects per merge. You should be able to still do it though. You just need to have the shoe laces (and any other objects) merge on top of the shoes to parent them to the shoes. Not sure if this is easy to explain, but the shoes will be the background and everything that sticks to them will be in a foreground merge. I may need to do a more complicated video on this.
