We're switching from Adobe to Affinity and Black Magic as they don't have subscription model, and this channel is a goldmine of knowledge for those who are doing the same transition. Keep it up!
Funny how things work out sometimes. I use Affinity for a long time now and just recently explored/stumbled around in Davinci and now I saw your post on reddit for this video. all hail the algorythm. :D Great video mate and greetings to Scotland.
I just found this video and subbed immediately. I can't wait to fully transition away from 70 dollars a month to only like 400 dollars every two or three years.
Tell me about it dude! Spent so many years paying Adobe for software that is buggy and slow. Not to mention stupidly expensive. For most content creators, I think Affinity + DR make a great replacement :) Thanks for the sub Quentin.
It's so amazing hearing another Glaswegian accent on UA-cam! There isn't many of us! Love your videos mate, the only thing keeping me from fully going over to Davinci is after effects, so I've been watching all of your videos and they've been amazing helpful. Keep up the videos, they're so good and will only get more popular the more popular resolve gets.
Simon my dude! 🏴 thanks for commenting. Love connecting with other Scottish UA-camrs 🙌 I hear ya on the after effects stuff, it’s the hardest one to say goodbye to for sure. I’m a few years into the switch and still find the occasional thing that is probably slightly easier on AE. But… it’s never impossible, there’s always a way! Best of luck mate
I use the hole lot all the Adobe and Infinity packages, love illustrator so this is handy even though I have Infinity Designer. No destruction with vector graphics either.
Considering Affinity is not planning to create an alternative video editor, I think it would be really useful if both Serif and Resolve did a collaboration. At the end of the day, it would benefit both companies.
Cheers bro. Been using Affinity since 2016 and now making the switch from AE to DVR as well (well, partially). Your videos are awesome and extremely helpful!
This was such a great tutorial, thanks for this! Quick, to the point and you actually had a solution for one step in there that messed up my workflow considerably - never occurred to me to just use the offset 🙃
This channel will be going places! Keep going, awesome quality videos and just the programs I’m using :D btw, u do have this fancy accent, where are u from?
This video would have been amazing to have 6 months ago when I was struggling horribly to get SVG files to properly import into Fusion and ended up doing everything as individual "media in" nodes....hahahaha. Great to know for future projects. Thanks!
Not officially, no. Text will come in as text+ node when using the SVG import function (worth checking out) but it’s likely to change the font. Not a huge issue but annoyingly it’s also not got a good track record of being able to tell what text should be grouped together. So you can find sometimes that words are broken up between more than one text node, which makes no sense. Fusion’s SVG parsing function really needs an update.
great video, thanks for sharing! this is a really minor thing but i was wondering if there's a quick way to remove the extra space around layers that aren't as big as the canvas, without messing with their position? i've tried to put a crop node between the mediain and the merge, and the auto crop button does a good job at removing the space, but then it also moves everything to the center
Thank you! And thanks for watching. Right now, I don’t believe there is a way to do that unfortunately. I suspect you’d have to reposition them. You could probably export all your assets as slices in Affinity and bring them into Fusion but you’d have to reposition them. I’ve always just added a transform node and used the pivot function to adjust the anchor point and this has been sufficient for me. Hope that helps!
I'm trying to import Affinity Designer SVGs into Fusion, but it doesn't transfer over the effects and transparencies I applied to the vectors. Is there something I'm missing? The SVGs look like they exported the attributes ok....but Fusion doesn't recognize them (they turn black or are missing). Help please? 🙏
Probably not missing anything tbh. Unfortunately information like transparency and effects need to be reapplied at the fusion side 😢 there’s no way (currently) to bring these across
@@RyanOsborneUK Thank you for your reply...and...that's disappointing. I tried the PSD import which did read some of the effects...but then didn't import all of the assets in the group! If it's not one thing, it's another-! This is why Adobe still rules for vector motion graphics I guess 😭
I have tried this at least 20 times. I have tried exporting as whole document, selection area, selections only. And only once did it import layers into the fusion node area. Every other time it just imported into the media pool, and when I drag it into the node area I don't get any layers, and what is see is either blurry white, instead of a black circle, or nothing at all depending on the export method. I have no idea what magic combination I used when I goy the layers imported, but when I connected to the media out node nothing showed anyway. If I just import a single layer at a time I just get a blurry white circle on a black background instead of the opposite. But that would be pointless anyway. Im starting to question reality, and my ability to count and tie my own shoes.
I have been trying to get the PSD method to work all day and I am sad to say it is just a no go. It looks like it works fine. I can animate the groups and everything. Then when I close and reload the project, I come back to a black screen. I tried relinking to MediaOut and I can see the groups again. But they can't be moved anymore.
I went back and checked your video and see that you say it needs to be the same dimensions. That is also a no-go for me because I have a large item I need to rotate into and out of the scene. Guess I need to just import these items as JPGs or PNGs.
Hi Ryan, thanks so much for the video! I have a question: I imported a psd file but 3 layers where not imported and 1 layer got duplicated 4 times...any idea how to fix that problem? thanks a lot for your help!
Hey Nadine! 🙂 thanks for watching! Hopefully I can help. First thing to check, is to make sure to name all of your layers in Affinity first? They must have names. Did you do that?
@@RyanOsborneUK Thank you so much for your quick reply and help! That was the issue. I thought Affinity named the layer automatically until I noticed the text was semi transparent. Fixed it and it worked! Thanks again for your help!
What an amazing pain in the ass… I have a much better idea. Just use after affects. When it comes to something like this, after effects is way better than fusion. Fusion has its place and it has its merits… But when it comes to real graphic design, nothing can touch after effects. I use resolve to edit and I use fusion for a few things but when it comes to real graphic design, I’m sticking with after affects.

Agreed... His idea is gold.
Awesome! You use the applications I love the most. Affinity + DaVinci = joy!
Amazing! Couldn’t agree more

Oh wow thank you for watching Jay :D they’re both great tools! And they work well together
Underrated channel. Keep it up!
Thank you @FromSergio 🙂 I plan to!

I've been exporting each of the layers as PNGs. This is a huge timesaver. Thanks.
I used to do that too until I worked it out. Glad it could help 😃
New sub. Been poking around on LumaFusion but about to move over to Resolve. Love the integration with the Affinity suite. Cheers!
Glad it could help MrPixelrancher 🙂
Great video, dude! I've just started getting into using both Resolve and Affinity!
Thanks dude. And amazing Kyle! Welcome to the small but growing community my friend 🙌

Hey Ryan, as this video is now 2 years old, has anything changed or gotten better with importing svgs or pngs from Designer?
Have you found a way to import editable text from Affinity Designer? I'm assuming this is just going to be a limitation we'll have to work around.
