Found this while I was trying to figure out how to bounce from Superior Drummer 2! Very similar to 3, and this couldn't have been more helpful. Thanks, LMP!
Hi LMP - thank you so much for this it's great, just one thing I noticed on my setup...( I'm triggering the SD3 plug-in inside Ableton from an electronic kit through a TD50x Module) and that is, when I hit the record button on the right it would not stay highlighted, I had to right-click on the record node and select Arm Exclusive (Pref) then the record buttons would stay on for each track. Thought this might assist others with the same issue, Thx again for your video, it helped heaps..!
Just want to say thanks for this. I bought SD3 a while back and haven’t been using it, but really want to cash in on the excellent (realistic) drums. This video is exactly what I needed to get going. Much appreciated. Thanks for taking the time.
Great explanation.. Thank you! I looked at several other videos to try to work this out in Ableton using SD3, which I've just bought. Yours was the only one I found that made sense and was easy to follow. The video picture seemed a bit blurry on my monitor but I can certainly live with that though, thanks again!
Hello! Thanks for your feedback. Glad you found the content useful. Regarding the blur issue. I have made the video in 4k resolution from my end. Please try to watch it in 4k resolution or FHD. Hopefully that will resolve the blur issue. Let me know if that works for you.
Thanks for your tutorial. I wanna know how to process this way if i have already a MIDI recorded (i integrated the MIDI rec in the SD3 plugin to edit it easier, and would like to save that work I did before route).
Really helpful. I have been using Ableton for recording my Saxophone but as i am a drummer as well will be going down this route with Superior drummer 3 i think. Thanks for the help with routing the individual channels
technically you can mix on separate channels in the superior drummer mixer .. but this way can record direct to audio and have drums on separate channels outside of the SD3. then can use effects and plugins
This video is really awesome thank you! Looking for which DAW I should get and I think I'm sold on Ableton, going to be using it for recording my edrums through Superior drummer 3 and adding other instruments into the mix.
To my knowledge, this is not possible when using SD in a DAW. Although you can do the same while using SD as a standalone application. Just use SAVE AS. I will still look around if there is a way to save as template with DAWS. If I find any solution, will update you. Thanks.
@@lmp_in i managed to save the all process by simply drag n drop the main track of the group in the user library. IT Will keep all , next time you drag n drop in a new project.
So Superior Drummer's sounds are all trated as audio, not midi? Is it possible to multitrack midi channels so that i could play my edrums and later on possibly change the sound of my snare drum for example? Great video, thank you!
You can treat it both ways. Depends on your purpose. Multitrack it using your Daw capabilities and go for all possible sound changes you want. To explain this will require another video and I am not producing content as of today.
In terms of sticking with the steps in this tutorial, what should we do with the extra channels from SD3 which have not been routed to a track/tracks in Ableton? For example, for a kit I'm using, I have a channel in SD3 called OH Dyn, another called Amb Ribbon, etc. What should we do with these extra channels? Thanks!
Hey! Thanks for you interesting question. These are not not extra channels. These are actually channels that were used to record Overhead Mics. If you wish to learn more about drum micing I suggest you explore the topic How to mic a drum kit. Once you learn that you will be able to relate to any channels that you encounter. For now, you can route overhead mics to two different channels and pan them left and right. Hope this helps.
Amb ribbon stands for ambient mic i.e. a room mic. You can use it as well id you wish. It will record the whole drum kit as one. Ambient mics or room mics are used to record how the instrument are sounding in a room. There are several room micing techniques, explore those as well.
I have a question, everytime I try to use a groove in ableton live, it changes the sound and mutes my kick but when I play it on SD it works fine. Any help?
Hey! I am not sure I completelygot your question. Can you explain what you mean by groove here? What is groove in this context and How are you playing the groove I mean?
Hi, thanks so far for that footage. But I got another question: In Superior Drummer it's not possible to change presets via bank select or program change messages. I am thinking of doing this with an intrument rack in Ableton beeing able to switch between presets via a foot controller. Can this be done? I know a can switch unused intruments of. Will that free the RAM from inactive SD3 samples files? Hmmm... Or is der another way, to change presets without touching mouse or keyboard? Thanks a lot, greetings from Germany
When I hit record, everything gets recorded except for the midi track. My goal is to still have the midi track so I can edit the midi notes after recording my drums. Any suggestions?
This can actually be caused due to several reasons but if you are getting the input signal from your MIDI instrument then the most common reason is that people forget to arm recording switch on the MIDI track while recording. Arm recording switch is that small red button on any given channel that. Turn this switch on to record enable an audio track or Instrument track. Are you doing this on your MIDI channel while you record?
@@lmp_in yes sir. Very well aware of that arm track. I am still trying to figure out why. Oh and just to note that, I'm doing this without my e-kit or midi controller. Just my laptop and trying to record by clicking the instruments in SD3. Maybe that's why?
@@iandguzman Hey! I see your issue, Superior Drummer Doesn't print MIDI if you are using a mouse, I suggest you switch to using your computer keyboard as your MIDI input device. This can be done in Ableton by pressing the M key on your keyboard or by clicking the small piano keys icon on the top right of Ableton. This switch is just next to draw more switch, the one that looks like a pencil. Also make sure while you are recording superior drummer, the record arm switch inside the superior drummer is also switched on. Hope this helps.
Signed in just to "thumbs up" your video. Very clear, concise and better than many other videos on this topic. Thanks!

Yes it would.

Quite interesting approach. I have never tried doing this and I have no clue will this work or not. Try it out and keep me posted as well :)
What about the preset grooves? Do they get routed out or do you have to play the drum parts
Hey! Routing works for any groove. Once your route channels they should work for any groove or rhythm.
