Rasputin is a super interesting character, historically as well, not just in the movie. He did actually take a bit of poison every morning to build up a resistance, so that he would survive if he was ever poisoned - clever man, albeit somewhat unorthodox to say the least. There's a movie simply titled Rasputin from 1996, Alan Rickman stars as Rasputin and Ian McKellen plays Tsar Nicholas II - it's actually a really good movie which I think you would enjoy.
@@daytrippera Alan Rickman is brilliant in it! And I totally agree, The Last Czars is extremely well done! The Romanov's have such an interesting history, one of my favourite historical families for sure.
Hey guys! Something that's actually kind of remarkable about this film is, despite what may be easy to assume (especially by Hollywood's standards), this film actually goes to great lengths to be historically accurate. Here are some incredible examples: - Archduke Ferdinand's assassination, from the bombing attempt on the road to the literal sheer luck that the car just happened to pass by the assassin again while he was having coffee. - Rasputin as a whole, from his bizarre personality and actions, to the fact that he did actually take poison in small doses to be immune. - Rasputin's death in the movie is actually kind of a quick compilation of all of the attempted ways to kill Rasputin, from being stabbed multiple times, to attempted poisoning, to be being shot to even being drowned. Hell, the actual circumstances around his death are actually kind of mythologized so much already that what this movie proposes is actually not too far off base. - The circumstances of the Great War (World War I) starting and the sort of "sibling rivalry" that it could boil down to - The Zimmermann Telegram was a very, VERY real thing that I was shocked to see referenced in this, and while the movie makes it to where our protagonists are the reason its eventually discovered/decoded, hilariously the real life reason it came about was practically by complete accident - The trench warfare scenes were all extremely accurate to various accounts from those front lines - The whole plotline with President Wilson not entering the war for quite some time - The aftermath of the Romanov family and the rise of Lenin and the Russian Revolution - Actually having a Hitler with a normal mustache before the whole tiny mustache thing, which he adopted from its popularity with Charlie Chaplin (and others) And I'm sure many other things I missed. But I absolutely love that just because this was a Kingsman movie set in the past, it didn't decide to go batshit insane with the history. Just thought I'd point some of the things out! Disclaimer: I'm not a historical expert by any means, if there's anything I'm incorrect about, or if there's even more great examples, feel free to let me know! Edit: Also wanted say, the tonal shift actually makes this one my favorite of the three films personally. I found The Golden Circle to push the craziness a bit too far for my tastes. This was a nice reigning in for me that I enjoyed a lot more and in my opinion, proves that these films can adopt many different genre types and not just "stay in its lane."
the only thing that bugs me about the movie is when he says "what right did we have to kill those just defending their homeland" and then goes on to show a joint campaign between Britain and Egypt to put an end to slave trading through the Sudan. i feel they did their research surrounding WW1 but didn't do enough about the 2 conflicts that they referenced before WW1 (Anglo-Egyptian conquest of Sudan and the Boer wars). side note: the Zimmerman telegram wasn't as much an accident as the Germans used British communication lines to send the message, practically used Britain as the postman to deliver their plans to mexico.
before i forget theres also the little nod to Alexei (tzar Nicholas's son) when Rasputin came to the palace he found the doctor treating Alexei's hemophilia with aspirin (a blood thinner) which is the opposite of what you want. Rasputin took him off aspirin then his chanting calmed Alexei down slowing his heart rate, the tzar put this down to magic since nobody knew at the time what the problem was. in the movie when Rasputin gives Alexei a drink with white powder (the aspirin), its actually Rasputin forcing Alexei to have a fit (that he knows he can cure later) to force the tzar to pull out of the war.
Only Austria's role in WW1 is hardly mentioned. We see the assassination of Franz Ferdinand and his wive but not even one scene shows any Austrian diplomat or the Kaiser/King.
This movie is actually more historically accurate than one might think LOL. From the assassination by Gavrillo Princip (who was in fact a member of a secret organization called Black Hand) to the depiction of Rasputin and what / how he did things o.O he had these absolutely crazy methods of healing, like licking wounds and stuff. He also refused to take a bath, and was smelly AF, and he did ... somehow ... heal the Tzar's son to manipulate the family. Even the fact that he was hard to kill is kinda real, I'm not sure if it's just a legend but as far as I know he survived 3 assassination attempts, poison, drowning and being shot. Yall are welcome to correct me, but tbh... in my personal opinion he remains one of the scariest men to have ever lived. FYI his healing did actually work most of times.......................... O.O oh... and.. khm. he was also a sex addict....
Yes I thought that was funny when you said "Is that Voldemort?" When the villain comes on scene but Voldemort is actually the lead hero. You guys are fun to watch!
I nerded out so hard on this movie upon the first watch. It is very historically accurate and I have studied World War 1 to the point where I was nerding out on names few others would recognize. I had so much fun with this movie and I had to see what you guys thought!
Great reaction y’all! I absolutely enjoyed Rasputin’s death scene where they incorporated all of the methods it took to finally bring Rasputin down. That was very entertaining! This film was slightly more serious than the other two but it was still really good.
I remember I couldn't pick my jaw up off the floor after Conrad's death for like, 5 minutes, to survive the scene he just had and to be shot by friendly fire (I just realized while watching this reaction that the actor that shot him plays Elrond in Rings of power) was so upsetting to me. I really enjoyed the mix of history and fiction, my favourite was all the ways Rasputin was injured before dying, it's kind of insane how much it took to finish him off. BTW he was a really interesting case in regards to having "abilities" as I think the Tsar's son had hemophilia and he supposedly cured it, idk how, since it's a genetic disorder.
Honestly, this is my favorite from the entire Kingsman series. Love everything about it, the anti-war sentiment was also done greatly, the visuals and cinematography were phenomenal, the choreography, costume design…Perfection 👌.
I think one of the reasons I liked this movie so much is BECAUSE it wasn't like the other Kingsmen movies. So many franchises find a style that works for them and then never change from it, but this one at least experimented with a different kind of movie while still having elements of its predecessors. For example: The MCU found their style, being witty jokes filled with epic action and fantasy, but then they've never really tried anything seriously different (besides maybe the 2nd Dr.Strange). They've stuck to the same format for every movie since Phase 2, and it's started to become stale enough that I just don't enjoy their movies anymore (though I am pretty hyped for the Kang Dynasty saga, especially after watching the new ant-man).
It was sad to watch marvel movies slowly bleed into the same template and humor. You used to be able to tell the difference between each of the films for a character or group and now the only one that still feels distinct is the guardians.
I already knew who the villan was because I'm a huge fan of Matthew Goode, and I recognized his voice 😅 but still enjoyed it a lot. I'm glad that you did this.
Even though this movie is fiction, Archduke Ferdinad's death is historically accurate. The archduke just happen to pass by a cafe where his assassain happened to be at and he took advantage. In real life the guy who threw the explosive (which in life just detonated behind them) and his killer were separate people.
I legitimately loved this movie. Matthew Vaughn has to be in my most underrated directors list with First Class and now these Kingsman movies have been so much fun to watch. I love history too and i love how much fun this was by using real historical figures like the Royal families and nearly every member of the Shephards Flock being a real person. Also come on,that Hitler Stinger had me rolling. The night time trench fight in this movie was awesome as well, but the Standout was the Rasputin boss fight with that Music. I love the eccentric Villians and his awesome secret Lair like they used to have the classic more Ridiculous James Bond Films.
There was one clue that was pointing that Morton was the Shepherd. If you look closely, you can see that he always had the hand where he had the Flock's ring behind his back in order to the audience didn't find out that he was the mastermind of the WWI.

You guys should react to The Grand Budapest Hotel, it's an amazing movie, which also stars Ralph Fiennes (amongst a huge list of amazing actors) and where he shows off his amazing comedy skills.
"You're the first of the official death squads to whom we've been formally introduced. How do you do?" is probably one of the greatest quotes from Monsieur Gustave.
Ya’ll seemed unaware of some of the history of Ferdinand and Rasputin. The Archduke and his wife DID both die in the 2nd assassination attempt. From a young age Rasputin would always eat or drink a bit of poison everyday and his body built up a tolerance to it so when the people first tried to kill him with poison it was a failure. They then tried shooting him, but he kept living and ran away so they shot him again then tied him up and drowned him.😅He was scrappy. It CAN’T “feel” like a Kingsman movie because it’s taking place in the 1800’s so they won’t have equal martial arts nor tech. It’s being realistic a bit with showing the progression of their capabilities. Djimon Hounsou simply refuses to age! The darker we are the closer we are to “the first people” in our bloodlines. Hell, maybe he’ll get to live 200+ years at this rate. 🤣
Rasputin is played by Rhys Ifans. Dr Curt, the Lizard, Connors. The Amazing Spider-Man. In the makeup easily mistaken to be Peter Stormare, American parts, Russian parts, they’re all made in Taiwan….
I know Ralph Fiennes seems like it's pronounced like Ralph is normally pronounced, but it's actually pronounced Rayf. So Ralph Fienns is actually Rayf Fiennes
I really liked that Movie, and Conrads end was a Big Suprise to me the First Time, but after rewatching the First Movie it makes me think why I didn´t see it, because Harry tells Eggsy how Kingsman was created: "After the First World War most of our Founders had lost their Sons to it[...]" Its so damn obvious in hindsight
Oak said the same thing about "Founders lost their sons in the war" at the beginning before they started watching and I instantly was like "Well, then the death of the son wasn't as unsurprising as I thought" xD
Since I see that you guys haven't noticed, the soldier that shot Conrad in the head was played by Robert Aramayo, who also played Elrond in the Rings of Power series.
Captain Maximilian "Max" Morton is sort of a take on Sherlock Holmes Moriarty at least to me. Seeing Conrad die shocked me at first but then it made way for Archie (a non aristocrat to join kingsman taking the place of one)
I'm sharing the opinion that this movie didn't feel like a Kingsman movie. But nonetheless it was really enjoyable. Rasputin is in a lot of media one of my fave characters. They did a great job portraying him here and the battle scene with him was definitely my favourite one. Before the trailer came out I thought they had cast Stanley Tucci as Merlin. My bestie always mistakes him for Mark Strong 😂 Kinda disappointed that he didn't have much screentime, but the whole cast was amazing. Glad to see the Answers first reaction to it as well, since he was such a fangirl on the first two! 💪💚
The man I was supposed to marry joined the Army on 9-11. He was stationed in Iraq and was killed one week before he was due to come home for good. Come the end of June he'll be gone for 20 years. He felt it was his duty to join the military to serve our country.
The hand to hand fight in "no man's land" is one of the most brutal cinematic fight scenes I've ever watched. The movie is just okay (IMO) but that fight scene elevates the film to magnificent.
U guys were expecting this movie to be similar to the first two that's why u guys gave lower scores.. After I saw the casts, I knew it would be a different vibe from the first two, so I didn't have any expectations when watching the movie.. I might consider this one a little better than the first kingsman movie
So for those who don't know, Grigori Rasputin famously gained the Tsars trust and gave him horrible military advice because why would a monk know Jack about war strategy. Russia kept losing millions and millions of soldiers because the Tsar kept listening to Rasputin. This is what eventually led to the Russian Revolution that overthrew the royal family where they were all massacred. And Rasputin famously survived Assasination where he was poisoned but the poison would not kill him so they tried shooting him.
Rhys Ifans played Rasputin, Ralph Fiennes was the Duke he was also Lord Voldemort, Gemma Arterton is Polly, Djimon Hounsou is his manservant xx I loved both modern films immensely but his one was superb without the gadgets xx
Rasputin was the target of many assassination attempts. One (i believe a shooting) resulted in a significant portion of his stomach being surgically removed. And that later helped him survive stabbings (as they missed his now smaller stomach) and certain poisonings (there wasn't enough stomach acid to create a lethal reaction to the poison).
For years fans had joked about how if mcu fans ever saw a movie about world war 1, they would be complaining about how there was no post credits scene teasing Hitler and world war 2...... And Matthew vaughnn actually did it with full sincerity lmao, I don't know how to feel about it. Like it completely took me out of the movie and was all I thought of, despite it havinf amazing performances and pretty cool fight scenes.
Rasputin was played by Rhys Ifans you guys who it Otto Hightower in House of the Dragons, Lizard in Amazing Spiderman, Luna's dad in Harry Potter and many more
I enjoyed this one a bit more than Golden Circle, but I'll season that with some questions on the tone of this movie. The tonal shift from what was happening early in the movie to the complete spiral into darkness with the trench warfare scene is just wild. And I don't think i've been as startled in a character outcome than what happens with the son. That was flat out insane. The first movie for me is still clearly the best.

9:57 Actually, It is quite historically accurate at this point. Both the Archduke and his wife died in the second attempt after the driver took a wrong turn right in the street where the Serbian Asassin was. They actually just visited the hospital where the wounded officers, by the bomb, were stationed. The fact that there was a 'Kingsman' that slammed the bomb away from the car is not how it happened though. The bomb just missed the first car and blew up the second one.
Also the line about getting greeted by bombs is historically accurate.

"Come to visit us", they kept demanding
And he really came
Ra ra Rasputin
Lover of the Russian queen
They put some poison into his wine
Ra ra Rasputin
Russia's greatest love machine
He drank it all and said, "I feel fine"
Ra ra Rasputin
Lover of the Russian queen
They didn't quit, they wanted his head
Ra ra Rasputin
Russia's greatest love machine
And so they shot him 'til he was dead
---------------------------------------------------------------
That's the lyrics of the song "Rasputin", claiming to be historically accurate and have been included in the movie.
That song went through my mind the whole time he was on screen (Or at least the part about the wine because those were the only lines I remembered).
I want to see the Kingsman in WW2, just so that end scene isn’t for nothing. Plus it would be sooo cool
Agreed
LOVED the "Lars Ulrich" drop! 🤣🤣
Overall a fun movie, interesting story and something new to the Men(?) verse. Better than Golden circle, a little worse than The Kingsmen. 7.5/10
Had a rough day at work and this reaction is just what I need!! Thank you for making this video and I'm guessing I'm gonna love it 😀
I dont know why this wasnt more successful...i loved this movie..it felt more like a comic book than any other previous movie
Remember I said I was hyped?
Well Im just nearly freaking out
You guys should react to The Grand Budapest Hotel, it's an amazing movie, which also stars Ralph Fiennes (amongst a huge list of amazing actors) and where he shows off his amazing comedy skills.
Early 1900’s, not 1800’s. Specifically during WWI.
Rasputin is played by Rhys Ifans. Dr Curt, the Lizard, Connors. The Amazing Spider-Man. In the makeup easily mistaken to be Peter Stormare, American parts, Russian parts, they’re all made in Taiwan….
Don't forget Xenophilius Lovegood, (Luna's Dad) from Harry Potter.
if you like movies like that you should also watch the two sherlock holmes films with RDJ 🤩
Yes! I concur!!
Need to watch this in full.
Always a great watch with you guys.
Crossover:
"Actually, it was super easy; barely an inconvenience. "
Nice.
I know Ralph Fiennes seems like it's pronounced like Ralph is normally pronounced, but it's actually pronounced Rayf.
So Ralph Fienns is actually Rayf Fiennes
Stanley Tucci in Divergent? You mean Hunger Games? Lol
It was but it wasn’t. I expected Conrad to have died out in battle not by someone who was trigger happy and on the same side.
Oak said the same thing about "Founders lost their sons in the war" at the beginning before they started watching and I instantly was like "Well, then the death of the son wasn't as unsurprising as I thought" xD
I love this channel I could watch you all every day!! Can we get to some horror movies soon PLZ 🍿 🎥 and Dave your editing is very good!!
Very much appreciated and thanks for watching with us!
@@BaddMedicine you're very welcome 💜
I loved the melding of fiction with history on this one. Such a cool alt-history movie.
this movie was excellent with the way they involved actual historical events and more "coincidences" in this movie as apart of the plot
As an south african the opening scene where the guy was shooting at the camp I was rooting for him
2:20 Voldemort vs Tywin Lannister😂
Sorry for your loss Karen!
@@BaddMedicine thank you
The Duke of Oxford is a nice throw to "Oxfords not Brogues".
I subscribed very quickly and do enjoy your reactions, your other subscribers write contents like collage essays very informative 🎉
I like this movie more than golden circle
I really liked the scene during the Swordfight at the end where the swords had the GoPro effect to follow the sword's POV.
The hand to hand fight in "no man's land" is one of the most brutal cinematic fight scenes I've ever watched. The movie is just okay (IMO) but that fight scene elevates the film to magnificent.
The Irony of when you see a bald character and ask is that Voldemort? When the main character is Ralph Fiennes who is actually Voldemort.
I wonder what happened when the soldier who shot Conrad found out he wasn't a spy.
Referencing a Ryan George catchphrase is TIGHT! 😂
Man this film caught me by surprise, didn't expect a prequel going in. Still loved it.
Rasputin was strange but wasn't far from what he was actually like
U guys were expecting this movie to be similar to the first two that's why u guys gave lower scores..
I do believe that the director confirmed that Archie is Eggsy's ancestor
Rhys Ifans played Rasputin, Ralph Fiennes was the Duke he was also Lord Voldemort, Gemma Arterton is Polly, Djimon Hounsou is his manservant xx I loved both modern films immensely but his one was superb without the gadgets xx
Have you guys ever watched the movie called Tiptoes? It has Gary Oldman and Matthew McConaughey playing twins.
28:44 Yep. That's about the exact same reaction I had at this scene. 😅
Great video thanks i recommend the full monty , train spotting and love actually all brilliant British films.
This movie is fucking awesome, I love the plot twist and that no man’s land fight scene
I didn't even know this had a prequel!
Those books in the tailor shop probably contains swatches of every material and color of wool or cashmere from certain animals that can produce it.
Crazy cause the actor who plays Orlando is also Voldemort I can never un-see him like that
Ralph Fiennes 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Rasputin was the target of many assassination attempts. One (i believe a shooting) resulted in a significant portion of his stomach being surgically removed. And that later helped him survive stabbings (as they missed his now smaller stomach) and certain poisonings (there wasn't enough stomach acid to create a lethal reaction to the poison).
I just found you guys a week ago and have binged a your videos even when I’m at work.
I would love to see you guys react to the show ‘The Boys’
That is definitely on the list to do😁🤘
Rhys Ifans went from being Otto Hightower to Rasputin......typecasting?
32:35 Stanley Tucci is in the Hunger Games not Divergent 😭
Oh man, the scooters in gym. My fingers felt that comment
I told ya.....this should've been the first kingsman movie then secret service and golden circle.... that would fit the timeline 👍🏾
My guys are back!
It interesting to see your joint reaction to the films Robocop and Robocop 3. This is a cool immortal classic 👍
I've loved/feared brother noomsy ever since I first saw the golden child. A great movie to react to if you guys haven't seen it.
Definitely needs a sequel with Aaron Taylor as the main character.
"Is that Voldemort?" well he is in this movie....just not in that scene lol
Rasputin was played by Rhys Ifans you guys who it Otto Hightower in House of the Dragons, Lizard in Amazing Spiderman, Luna's dad in Harry Potter and many more
38:21 but now comes the question: How to get back down?
I enjoyed this one a bit more than Golden Circle, but I'll season that with some questions on the tone of this movie. The tonal shift from what was happening early in the movie to the complete spiral into darkness with the trench warfare scene is just wild. And I don't think i've been as startled in a character outcome than what happens with the son. That was flat out insane. The first movie for me is still clearly the best.
5mins in and im surprised none of you have mentioned ralph being voldermort
Just to let you gentleman know Ralph Fiennes’ first name is pronounced RAY-ph. The L is silent.
Rhys Ifans is Rasputin, he's such a good actor.
Gemma Atherton is Gal i Had. That's the white sweater Capt America wore in Knives Out.
Body this must have gone straight to DVD on release.
i was hoping someone would say ''is rasputin gonna eat the cake.....or conrad's cakesssss''
The big dude is a dutch bodybuilder it was his first or second time in a movie
Hi bad medicine guys you watch the eega( fly) movie is a revenge story the fly kill is a man comedy entertainment this movie director is (SS Rajamouli) is recently direct Bahubali 1 Bahubali 2 and RRR
Have you guys ever seen the movie Colossal? Came out in 2016 interesting plot
surprisingly not as bad as people said, i'm enjoyed it. the action is really good and rasputin is interesting
Did you know that the “ogor” around 37.10 is the Dutch giant? He is the largest bodybuilder of the world. He is 2.18 meters!
They're making a fourth kingsman movie
Charles Dance is such a good actor too, but I always confuse him with Tobin Bell.
