- Just a few short years ago, Rainbow Six Siege was a game that had to claw its way out of the grave.
But just as Ubisoft finally listened to fans and fixed the game, they destroyed it by bringing Lion into the game.
Lion could see through walls, breaking every rule of Siege. He upended the meta, earning a 100 percent pick rate in pro play, and, once they added bans to the game, a 100 percent ban rate.
Lion nearly destroyed Siege, and he turned the community against Ubisoft forever.

not only would you save a lion scan that could potentially change the outcome of the game later on in the round, you also get a free kill when prepared.

using his ability at the start was used to delay setup so you can get ground faster than usual, which was incredibly broken.

In the case you can't stay still, it'll probably be due to the enemy knowing your location. Not always, but most of the time. We never had any issues with Lion in Ranked. Wasn't as bad as what people were saying at the time. It's a little bit worse now I find, with the speed of the activation now.
@@SirBigWater yeah I agree there, honestly I think cav is more busted than lion. Sure she has to have a downed enemy, but she doesn't even need to down anyone herself, she can just team with a frost. And it's not even tied to movement like lions gadget is. There's no counter to cavs wall hacks. I think it should be taken down to just pings, just like they did to lion

It's risk and reward sure, but it can still be just as mindless as lion. At the end of the day it's still wall hacks for the entire team.

I personally always hated Jackel more. Remember when his scans lasted for basically the entire round? And when he’s out of scans he still has the passive ability to see footsteps and how recent they are.
At least lion didn't have the easiest most broken gun in the game, jackel is by far worst, but still i enjoyed siege back then than now, the game is just dog shit now

Both Lion and Finka seemed WAY out of place, noone talks about Finka because she's almost useless, but the ability to heal EVERYONE at a distance with the touch of a button, while having passives like less recoil, ability to tank flashes, walking faster through wire, etc (again, to EVERYONE, INSTANTLY and without risk, skill or counter). seemed so out of place they looked like their design was outsourced, made by people who had no idea what Siege was.
I hate finka especially when I’m in gun fight then a random surges me and all of sudden I have no recoil
@@crazytigerspy9420 i play finka sometimes, when i want a bit more of an impact for my team at large (i typically play Kali, though i played finka more than glaz) or i know the map doesn't favor long range weapons. finka is one i either surge when i hear gunfire starting up, if i see a downed teammate, or if i am about to enter a doorway/window on/near objective. i also do it if someone asks for it. her ability is a very hit-or-miss one, but yea its not one that has much finesse to it. honestly a large part of why i pick finka is because i like the spear 308. its not a fantastic weapon, but it just feels right to me.
one thing i to this day don't understand is i had a teammate who i used adrenaline surge on as they got downed (i pressed the button before they went down, but the delay was just enough) complained that they got revived by the surge because they had no health. this person was the only one attacking from the area they were at, so nobody would have gotten there before they were executed anyway.
I love Finka fight me.
I just like how he had a 100% pick rate, yet mute pick rate is still low af, even though it countered his gadget since the start.
His gadget didn't counter shit. The radius of the jammer was so small you were essentially standing still anyways. If a nade landed on one edge, you'd still die if you moved as far away as possible while staying in the jammer range.
@@deshthewraithLoL As far as i remember Mute's jammer range was increased WAY before lion's release, but i could be wrong, i remember it being smaller, but the thing is that it did counter it, i used it a lot so the memories are kinda blurry when it got the range increase.But the only thing i remember is that lion was only busted in pro-plays, but in regular ranked it wasn't even useful at all, even in plat. Maybe in diamond, but i dunno about that.

It’s prob just nostalgia but the rush meta was sort of fun to play when you compare it to today’s utility dump. The Lion, Ying, Jackal, Doka, Blitz lineup was aids but funny.

I remember playing in that time. And boy literally every team played Lion, Ash, Blitz, Jackal, Ying or Doki. And so the Rush meta was born in that time. If I remember when I played a certain match and a round lasted less than a minute. Thank God that is no longer the case.

Yeah, I played during that time as well, was actually pretty high elo so I got the blunt of Lion. I wouldn't call it a Rush meta, as Rushing really wasn't a meta and has always been in the game. I believe back then, it was simply called "The AIDs Meta."
TL;DR: Lion gave Team Liquid their only World Championship title.

ahhh operation chimera i can still remember my phone ringing, the vibration sound, my vision is clear as turning off dark mode and get track hunted by a canine.
This video is PTSD for many many players... I still have clips where we ran Ying, Lion, Blitz, Dokkaebi and Jackal when we were literally too tired and still managed to win 5/6 ranked matches!

@@toelighters9416 well it heavily depends on what rank and trust factor you have. You'll find a lot more cheaters in the lower ranks than in the higher ranks. And depending on your trust factor, you can find lots of cheaters. :)

as a player who came into the game only a few days after lion was released, i can say for 100% that it was a truly different game during the reign of lion. seeing the game only during the lion phase i didn’t see the problem but after the nerf i realized that there were completely different options to play, both attacking and defending, there were dozens of new play styles that were simply overshadowed before the nerf.
One thing I always thought about was that the Italian operators were released soon after Lion and Finka and Ubisoft said they were behind on releasing operators due to the outbreak game mode taking such a long time. The Italian ops seemed like they were made with the intention of counterplay against Lion's broken ability but by the time they were out it was too late and competitive siege was the Lion show.
The nostalgia. I had so much fun being lion scanned, jackal scanned, called by dokkeabi, a candela being thrown, and a blitz running torwards me in a 1v5.
How broken is Lion?

I mean, tbf, it makes a little bit more sense in a game like valorant bc your ult is an ability you have to build over time with skill-based factors like kills and plants. Obviously an ult can still be broken tho. In siege your abilities are free and in the case of lion he got 3 per round EVERY round.

Balance idea: the drone only works on one player at a time. Once that player is hit, all the other players are alerted of it. Now, instead of the defending team becoming sitting ducks to invisible lions, one of them becomes the ultimate bait whilst the rest of their team prepares to rip any incoming attacker's spine out their ass and beat the rest of them to death with it.
This time, it would actually require skill. You'd still get wallhacks and can capitalize on a cheap wall kill. But at the same time, an enemy player can take the bullet and move, letting themselves get skanned allowing the rest of the team to continue playing.
It's risk and reward. Either you get a kill with no chance of getting shot, or are brutally murdered whilst chasing your prey.
That's similar to how Dallas works in Rogue Company. I've definitely had games where the revealed defender has an ally lying in wait to light our team up

2017 was imo the greatest year of Siege since its release and I don't see it changing ever. Everyone was crazy for the game in 2017, loads of streamers were streaming, loads of tournaments to participate. Everyone was so passionate about the game, grinding non stop and then 2018 came... That was the beginning of the end for Siege.

@@firefightszz speaking to your first point is why siege is so popular because damn near every strategy works as long as you cane execute it well enough and this game might not be faced paced compared to games like halo, destiny, or cod it can still become fast paced depending on the strategy. Which is a huge reason this game is so popular because of its strategy concept and why its bent towards competitive play over casual

When people say they miss old siege, they're mostly talking about Y1-Y2. This, I remember, was just oppressive as shit and was not fun to play at all. When people say that though, you need to take into account all the factors, Lion was really the start of people saying that because like KIXSTAR said in that one clip, he was the beginning of the Overwatch mentality of "Push a button, turn the tide of the round."

agreed, thank god i seen this before the coppers got to you 1st. Defense has become op altogether and attack needs something to really counter that. Zero tho he might be attacks saving grace. Also we need an attacker sided map or just get rid of some reworks to make it balanced bcuz most reworked maps have become defender sided. They don't make attackers and defender like they used to, give us another Sledge, Ash, IQ, Fuze, Lion, Smoke, Castle, Rook. Not Exactly like them but close enough, similar to ops that copy Thermite like Hibana and Ace.

Played exclusively ranked during those days and I don't remember ever having any trouble dealing with Lion. People struggle with different things though.

Mute and jaeger were really great picks during those times since people who would overly rely on lion and jackal had no idea that a mute, played by me, was right behind lion around an entry point.

Why did you remind me of these days
I’m just a filthy casual in r6s but I really do like that they keep trying out new things. I mainly play co go so playing a game that is changing and improving constantly is really cool. It’s not the same ak vs m4 vs awp meta that’s existed for 2 decades now. there are some teething pains for a game that introduces so many variables in the way you can choose to gunfight but it’s original and constantly evolving.

I remember when Lion came out together with Outbreak it felt like they balanced him around that gamemode first. So it was easier to see all the infected through the walls and such, idk.
