    It's really amazing that Chavacano is still spoken by many people from different places in the Philippines. I want to learn it someday because I'm currently studying the Spanish language in my course.

    Tumira ako sa Ternate Cavite from 1988 to 1992 and I managed to learn their dialect which is Chavacano. I can speak like a native speaker then, but I haven't spoken with native Chavacano for more than 25 years now. (Kumusta na po kayo)
    I am proud to learn the dialect. I have used it to my advantage when we have an Spanish national as visitor, atleast I was able to converse wtih them although the diffirence is really great. The good thing is I know the root words.
    Using "bo" in Ternate Cavite is not disrespect, it's a normal part of their conversation. Traditionally normal from a certain place which is not normally used in your community doesn't mean they are wrong. Kanya kanya lang ng kultura iyan.

      Edgar Reyes in Zamboanga City using "bo" in a conversation is disrespectful. We Zamboangueños often use "bo" whenever we are angry. Haha lol. its respectful versions are "tu" "etu" and "ostedes" which means "you"

    • @edgarreyes4712
      @edgarreyes4712 7 років тому +7

      I am not to argue, but that's the way we use "bo" in Ternate Cavite

    • @blitzxer017
      @blitzxer017 7 років тому +2

      @Gary Mitchel Fox. Mijotro de bahra ta sirvi el "bo" con manga ka-año de mijotro o na manga mas joven. No esti pag nuay respeto con otro gente. Pero pag mas viejo conmijotro el gente ta habla mijotro "tedi" (short term for "ustedes").

    Zamboanga city speaks Chavacano until now and it is spoken everywhere.Chavacano is being taught in schools that is why little children as early as 3 years old speak Chavacano in Zamboanga until now.Most of the people in Zamboanga city cannot speak Tagalog very well.
    Chavacano in Zamboanga city can be heard in the stores, malls, markets, jeepneys,offices and everywhere!

      The presentation shows the decline and the potential endangerment of the Cavite Chavacano. I went to Cavite City for a long ride. while I bought some food, I asked a vendor of delicacies near Porta Vaga church. I tried to speak in Zamboangueno, but she said it's understandable, whether you are from Cavite or Zamboanga, no matter the differences in structure, Chavacano is still Chavacano, only regionally different. I hope the Chavacano in Cavite should be well-preserved because it's the lasting legacy that Spain contributed to the Philippines.

    Chavacano 101 - Introducing yourself
    but first you should know the formal, common, and informal forms
    Formal is rarely used and used only during certain occasions.
    Common is the one widely used
    Informal is widely used too but it is for casual meeting or for friends.
    Spanish: "Mi nombre es/Me llamo/Yo me llamo ______. Estoy feliz de conocerte.
    Formal: "Mi nombre es __________. Alegre yo conoce contigo./Yo alegre conoce contigo.
    ( My name is _____________. I'm happy to meet you.)
    Common: "Mi nombre si _____________. Alegre yo conoce contigo.
    (My name is ____________. I'm happy to meet you.)
    Informal: "Yo si _______________. Alegre yo conoce contigo.
    ( I am _________. I'm happy to meet you.)
    Because formal is rarely used...so i'll teach you only the common and informal..
    Puede ba kita queda man-amigo? / Puede ba tu queda mi amigo? (if you are male speaking to another male)
    Puede ba kita queda man-amiga? / Puede ba tu queda mi amiga? (if you are female speaking to another female)
    Puede ba kita queda man amigo y amiga? / Puede ba tu queda mi amigo? / Puede ba tu queda mi amiga?
    (if you are male/female speaking to opposite sex/gender)
    It all means "Can we be freinds?"
    possible answers:
    Si! = Yes!
    Jendeh = No
    Puede = Maybe
    Uy! Bien formal man = Oh! You're so formal..../ Masyado ka namang pormal
    Hondo man gayot = Oh! That's too deep/archaic / Malalim man talaga (ang salita)
    but some natives of Zamboanga knows Bisaya and Tausug...and yes we know Filipino and English especially the educated , professionals, or privileged ones who underwent formal education which most of us do. I hope Chavacano would be promoted and propagated to other places, make it stronger, and standardized...... I also hope the Chavacano in Ternate, Cavite and Cavite City will survive.

      Are double ls or "ll"s still pronounced as "y" just like in spanish or are they pronounced the filipino way("lya")?

    • @sophiestabilitronics
      @sophiestabilitronics Рік тому

      @@imnotapollo4188 if we observe the word “caballo” (kabayo in Tagalog), LL should be pronounced like English Y. Sadly when the Spanish left the Philippines, and the next generation learned English and Tagalog, the way we read, we pronounce as it is, that was why there is “li” in LL. But the correct indeed is to say LL like English Y.

      Franco Pepino ang ibig sabihin nya po ay ang Butuanon na language naglalaho na sa Butuan city samantalang ang Surigaonon na language buhay at ginagamit. Ang agusan lalo na ang agusan sur/butuan city ang daming Cebuano migrants. Kaya mawawala talaga ung native speaker dyan. Samantalang sa Surigao, Surigao city lng medyo marami Cebuano na dayo. Kaya yung native Surigaonon speakers of Dinagat Siargao Mainland Surigao Norte, Yung mga bayan sa tabi ng Mainit lake, Kitcharao Agusan Norte, CarCanMadCarLan(Surigaonon-Cantilangnon) ng Surigao Sur gumagamit pa rin ng Surigaonon dialect. Sa Tandag hanggang Liangga Surigao Sur ibang Surigaonon na variety yung Tagon-on/Kamayo naman ang dialect.

    I'm a filipino and my great grandmothers in both sides speaks pure spanish (as per my parents). My mothers grandma came from Isabela Basilan and got married to a Subano (one of the domimant tribes in Zamboanga). While my fathers abuela originated from Tarnate Cavite who married my bisabuelo from Surigao Del Norte. But I was born in Cebu. (Just sharing). Anyways given with those family history of mine i grew up being exposed to different dialects, Subanin, Surigaonon, Bisaya and tagalog. So thats maybe the reason why my family speaks those dialects differently, they spoke it with a little bit more spanish than the regular speakers. And sad to say i never learned the chavacano language, the newer generations like me were taught english instead of our very own chavacano language. Thats the reason why it is almost extinct in Cotabato, Davao, Cebu, and Manila. I hope we start reviving the chavacano language instead of learning korean, japanese and etc. We should even get a subject for this. I am currently studying the language and will surely teach my children chavacano. Thanks for the video. Buenas Suertes GMA! Keep up the good documentaries.

    The last portion on variance in chabacano/chavacano is true :-)
    Although I never learned my dad's dialect, there is some familiarity whenever I hear it spoken; so when I had officemates who are from Zamboanga and hear them speak chavacano with each other, I find their dialect different from the chavacano i heard at family gatherings in cavite city. I just hope you tried to learn your ancestors native language so as to be able to pass it to your children or the net generation. I am from Zamboanga City and knowing that we were not just the people speaking a variant dialect of Chavacano language in the country is beautiful to know, but knowing Chavacano of Cavite, Ternate, and Ermita are all dying unlike our Chavacano de Zamboanga which is still alive makes me really sad.
      Yo desde Ciudad de Zamboanga que mas conocido como ciudad de flores de antes pero ahora mas conocido como ciudad cabezera delas Sardinas na pais y na otros mas pa maga titulo como "Diutay o pequenio Espania dela Sur-Este Asia " o "Ciudad Latina de Asia". Yo aqui ya gayot na ciudad ya nace, ya engranda, ya estudia, y ta esta hasta ahora.
      Halimbawa po iyong nasa taas ng Chavacano de Zamboanga, hope you're interested to know and learn the Zamboanga variant or dialect of this Spanish (Castillan or Mexican) and Portuguese based creole languages in our country.
      Aside from Chavacano, we also do have folk songs in Castillan, some are like Mexican (which is a different Spanish dialect), we also have religious prayers in Castillan and mix with Mexican Spanish.... our Chavacano in Zamboanga for me is Mexican Spanish-based while I know Ternatenio and or the Lenguaje de Barra is a bit Portuguese-based.
      The Castillan Spanish for "market" is "mercado" just like the one used by Visayan people for market, but for us we use "tiange" and not "mercado" and as far as I know "tiange" is a Hispanized Mexican-Aztec word. So our language in Zamboanga is a mixture of Castillan Spanish, Mexican Spanish, Bisaya, Tausug, Subanen, Tagalog or Filipino borrowed words and Malaysian words and even English borrowed words. That's why it is different from the Chavacano of Luzon places like in Ternate, Cavite City, and Ermita. :)

      John Eichmann ok nga rin ang Espanyol... kaso rin dahil nga sa tinuran ni Aguinaldo at alang-alang na rin sa mga bayani kung kaya ayaw din itong gawing wikang pambansa. Ngunit may mga panukala na rin sa Senado mula kina Pia Cayetano na siyang kumakatawan sa sining at kultura gayon na rin sa isa pang senador na nakalimutan ko ang ngalan, eh nais nilang ibalik ang pagtuturo ng Espanyol sa paaralan mula elementarya hanggang segundarya at gawin itong "mandatory".... at sa kolehiyo naman ay ilunsad ito bilang "elective"..... ngunit ayaw sin ito ng mga akitibista dahil nga raw sa sinusulong nito ang "imperyalismo" o na ang Filipinas ay nasa ilalim pa ng kulturang Kastila, etc. .........pero nais ko ring maituro ang Espanyol sa paaralan, advantage natin ang matutunan ito bukod sa Ingles.... kung "imperyalismo" ang hiwatig ng paggamit ng Espanyol, hindi ba at imperyalismong hiwatig din ang paggamit ng Ingles na wikang mula rin sa mga dayuhan? ngunit maganda muna ay suguraduhin ang state of literacy ng bata sa Filipino man o Ingles, bago ilunsad ang Espanyol na panukala..... pero malay natin, mas madaling matuto ng Espanyol kaysa Ingles...sapagkat mga 4,000 na salitang Filipino ay galing Espanyol, 6,000 naman na salita sa Cebuano o Bisaya ay galing sa Espanyol.....lalo na ang Chavacano na 80% ng wikang ito ay Espanyol ng Espanya at karamihan mula sa Espanyol ng Mehiko....... dagdag at iilan lang ang ibang salitang galing Tagalog, Bisaya, Ilonggo, Tausug, Ingles at Malaysian sa wikang Chavacano sa Zamboanga......halos ang natirang 80% ay Espanyol..... Hindi man ginawang wikang pambansa ang Espanyol, sana kahit sub-official o co-official man lang gaya ng Ingles. Marami-rami rin naman ang mga dayuhang galing sa Spain o Latin America sa ating bansa, at marami-rami rin ang mga nagsasalita ng Espanyol na nag-aaral ng foreign language sa paaralang segundarya sa Special Program in Foreign Language ng DepEd, at sa kolehiyo rin bilang elective o bilang major, ....marami-rami rin ang nagkaka-interes sa Espanyol o nagtatrabahong Pinoy sa Spain o sa Latin America..... marami-rami rin ang Espanyol ang second, third, o fourth language nila........at marami-rami rin ang nagsasalita ng Chavacano na hawig sa Espanyol bilang first, second, third, o fourth language...at marami-rami rin ang nakakaintindi ng konti nito........ kaya bukod sa Ingles, harimanawari'y maisulong din ang Espanyol bilang co-official language....kung di man ang Espanyol, kahit Chavacano na lang........ sa mga makakatuto nito ay isang malaking advantage to work in Spain or any Latin American country..... pwede ka ring makaintindi ng konting Portuges o kahit Pranses at Latin dahil medyo magkakamag-anak na wika sila...... bukod sa Mandarin na may pinakamalaking bilang ng tao ang gumagamit na karamihan any Tsino (dahil sa malaking populasyon nila sa mundo), ang Espanyol at Ingles ay nasa top 5 ... kaya advantage talaga ang marunong tayo ng di lang Ingles kundi Espanyol din........ pero huwag rin nating kalimutan na pahalagahan ang wikang sa atin higit sa lahat...... hehe.... binuod ko na ang kwento na pagkahaba-haba..lol XD
