- In this Descript Storyboard tutorial I guide you through the process of importing and syncing external transcriptions in Descript. If you want to import and sync a transcription you edited and corrected outside of Descript, this video walks you through that process.
I also share a lot of extra tips along the way, such as:
How to prevent automatic transcription in Descript and save your transcription minutes. You'll learn how to prevent Descript from automatically transcribing files when you bring them into your project. This is a crucial step to save transcription minutes.
Importing a Video File: I demonstrate how to import an external video file into your Descript project without triggering automatic transcription.
Preparing an External Transcript: If you have a pre-existing transcript, you'll see how to prepare it for synchronization with your video, how to add text that indicates to Descript who is speaking and have them automatically create speaker labels upon import.
After import, we look at how to fix misaligned words. Sometimes, Descript will have trouble aligning all words in your provided script perfectly. I show you how to fix the alignment issues by adjusting the word boundaries in Descript.
I also show you how to correct missing text by adding it manually where necessary. Descript will then automatically re-align that text to the audio waveform. This is for situations where the transcript you provided is missing certain portions that are present in the audio.
I also show you how to replace a transcript if you've already transcribed your file, using your own transcript.

A very useful tip, thanks. Descript doesn't make it very obvious on how to import a transcript.
Glad it was helpful!
At first, I thought: how can this tutorial be 12 minutes long? But it is packed with usefull information. And you covered at least 4 very usefull features. Thank you for that!
Thanks, I get this reaction all the time. Most of my tutorials are packed with extra tips, not just the main topic. I try to provide as much value as possible. And my Descript course is the same :D
Wow! This is so useful. Thanks!
Very useful tip Cristi, thanks. One thing I’m having trouble with, is using ai on the imported transcripts. The ai does not seem to like doing any work on the transcripts that were not created through Descript. Have you also noticed this? It errors out if you ask for a summary, or blog post etc..
Yes, I believe they mentioned that some of these operations do not work on imported transcripts which is a shame. I suspect it’s a commercial reason rather than a technical one.
Hello, perfect video !! I have a little question in case you can help me. I have a project with 10 sequences (slides) and I typed the script for each slide. There is no video nor audio already in my project. As I am a spanish speaker I need to read the script to paste this audio inside the project. Which are the correct steps to record my voice, paste it inside descript and to sync it with my already written script ?? thanks in advance !! Pablo from Argentina
Thank you @BuenCrypto! The correct workflow for you would be the reverse:
1. Record your voice (using your script) directly inside Descript
2. Import the corrected transcripts from your script as shown in this video
3. Create scenes where the slides go
4. Add the slides in each scene corresponding to each portion
Hope this helps.
Thanks@@Graphicious , I tried this workflow but unfortunately import script in Spanish is not available yet :-( . Another thing: The correct mode can only accept up to 100 characters per correction (only one line). Because of this 2 things, I had to correct the transcript word by word ;-(
Yeah, sorry. I didn’t know it didn’t allow importing in other languages.
Hey Cristi! Thanks for the video, super useful. Quick question, I don't know why I can't import a transcript, it doesn't allow me to select the option. Do you know how can I fix it? Thanks in advance!
Thank you! I wonder if your video maybe has no audio? (Or Descript thinks it has no audio or is having trouble interpreting the audio). Or maybe it was still working on processing it. What format is it? Doesn't hurt to restart it and see if it works.
Can you create a video to teach how to make annotations of the text go from left to right at 0:16 of this video
Those are done in Camtasia but you can achieve similar results with animation in Descript. I will make a video
@@Graphicious Thank you. I'm waiting for the video
Here is that video I was telling you about, showing how to create animation and animate a lower thirds for a video, all in Descript. Hope it helps: ua-cam.com/video/83Pp-CLoito/v-deo.html
