  • Producing an audiobook version of your book can be an expensive and time consuming part of the book publishing process. Whether you narrate it yourself or hire a professional narrator, the editing and production of an audiobook is expensive. For some authors, making the investment in making an audiobook just doesn't make sense. However, with ElevenLabs you can clone your voice and produce a good-quality audiobook for only a few hundred dollars. In this video, Julie Broad of Book Launchers shows you how she cloned her voice with ElevenLabs and produced the audiobook version of her first book More than Cashflow. While you can't yet sell this on major platforms it is a product that can be used as a bonus, a lead magnet or you can sell it direct. And, one day soon, you will be able to sell this type of audiobook more widely.

    You can just edit and re-record each line and paragraph separately, so you don’t have to re-run the whole file. I converted my novel this way and found it very efficient, and I was still doing line edits in the weeks before I finished.

    • @BookLaunchers
      @BookLaunchers  Місяць тому +1

      Yes then you have to edit the file together to make a full chapter if you don't just rerun the whole thing. Obviously a smarter thing to do if you are short on credits for the month but I was trying to do this the simplest way possible so I didn't have to work for hours and hours. :p
      Thank you!!

    • @Ruth_Heasman
      @Ruth_Heasman 29 днів тому

      @@BookLaunchers No editing the file together needed, just re-run the Convert command at the end of your editing session and it resaves the whole chapter out with the new edits included. You can export each chapter separately, or the entire project together as one file, but the separate chapters are more useful anyway, as it allows the listener to stop and start as needed.

    Very very interesting. Thank you for doing this video. I feel inclined to think that going for the actual audio book creation could be the best bet right now but that the bot version will come along

      Glad it was helpful! I think it's a great option for those that wouldn't have done an audiobook otherwise due to cost or effort required ... but my next book will still be narrated by human me.

    I heard you mention this a while back so I was super excited to watch this. I did some quick math. My manuscript is 92k words or 485 characters with spaces. The pro version gets you 500k characters per month (though it didn't specify if that was with or without spaces) for $99, so one month should do it. Google says it costs $30-$100/hour to rent a studio, so to create the recommended 3-hour sample, that's $90-$300 more. Even if you factor in the cost of editing that sample (another $75-$200/hour per Google) this process should be way cheaper than the cost of reading it yourself in a studio for 10+ hours plus the cost of post-production (editing, proofing, mastering). While I would love to read my book myself in real life, it's just so cost prohibitive, no?

    • @BookLaunchers
      @BookLaunchers  Місяць тому

      It is a huge cost and time savings BUT you can't publish it widely right now so you are missing out on a lot of the benefits of producing an audiobook for the various platforms. This choice isn't going to be the right one for everyone but I think it's exciting that it's an option and if you wouldn't invest in an audiobook otherwise DO THIS because at least you'll have a version for people who will ask you! And when they can be published widely - and I'm sure that day will come - you have it ready!

    Loving this. Very interesting. I am with google play books on the audio side and on my 10th book changing it over to audio. In the beginning it was a struggle, until I contacted google play help. You get to pick what voice you want. Have you talked about google play books in audio yet?

    • @BookLaunchers
      @BookLaunchers  20 днів тому

      No I haven't done anything with Google Play books. I was going to play with it soon though. We always use aggregators to go to them so I haven't done anything direct. Because the aggregators won't take my AI narrated book I will be going direct now. Just need to get some space in my schedule to get some playtime for these things!! :D

    Interesting! As a fiction author, though, I’d worry that it wasn’t expressive enough. (Yeah, I’m technically not your target, but you’ve got useful info.)

    • @BookLaunchers
      @BookLaunchers  Місяць тому +1

      Yes I agree - it would require more editing to bring it to life. This, to me, is an option if you weren't going to do an audiobook vs the replacement of an audiobook right now. :)

    I’d like to know when something better, less expensive, less time consuming comes along. $99 a month sounds like a money grab when the software is a hot mess. I can always tell when AI is reading when pronunciation is off. That doesn’t make for a good listener experience. Thanks for letting us know.

    • @BookLaunchers
      @BookLaunchers  Місяць тому

      $99 is pretty cheap if you're organized - you only need it for a single month. I think it's doing a really fantastic job compared to where it was even six months ago and for authors who wouldn't otherwise be able to produce an audiobook it's a viable option now!

    Thanks Julie. I wanted to ask if you've played with the free service that KDP offers where they take your eBook and using AI translates it into audio format for release on their platform. I'm still of the mindset that if/when I do an audio book I want to tell the story myself.
    All the best.

      Amazon has not allowed me to do this with my book. It's an invite only and it seems most people invited have been fiction or Amazon Publishing so I haven't been able to play with it. I am more excited about voice cloning though. :p

      HEY!! Amazon doesn't let everyone do it - you have to be selected and I think it's mostly for fiction authors so far. It's also not your voice, you have to choose a narrator bot.

    What nobody tells you is that even the best AI won't have intonation.
    Unless you pay for a seriously customized tool, the tone will be off.
    Have you tried to make your AI ask a question or pronounce something that is not a suggestion or admiration? AI is trained by marketing content that has been rampant online for decades (suggestion/command tone, don't, do, buy, get, grab etc) and by ehm... "admiring" tools (so pretty, so great, so rich, so nice, oh so perfect, so...) and it seems to lack normal speech data.
    Just try it in any language other that English and you'll see that it sounds extremely fake, even with your own voice. You can also test the trial version, which are supposed to be better. Even in English, with the majority of training data, AI voices sound wrong.
    Test it, and tell me if you think you can trust AI tools with your book.
    Unless, of course, you write one of those "get rich $$$ now!" books without real content and you don't really care.

    I won't listen to author who does AI voice clone because I really hate the sound. I'd rather listen to the real human. And is taking income from professional artist. Nope.

    • @BookLaunchers
      @BookLaunchers  28 днів тому +1

      It's not necessarily taking money from a professional artist if you would have narrated your book yourself OR not produced one because of the cost without this.
