OPETH is:
Mikael Åkerfeldt - Vocals, Guitars
Martín Méndez - Bass
Fredrik Åkesson - Guitars
Joakim Svalberg - Keyboards
Lyrics:
Ghost of Perdition
Ghost of Mother
Lingering death
Ghost on Mother's bed
Black strands on the pillow
Contour of her health
Twisted face upon the head
Ghost of perdition
Stuck in her chest
A warning no one read
Tragic friendship
Called inside the fog
Pouring venom brew deceiving
Devil cracked the earthly shell
Foretold she was the one
Blew hope into the room and said:
"You have to live before you die young"
Holding her down
Channeling darkness
Hemlock for the Gods
Fading resistance
Draining the weakness
Penetrating inner light
Road into the dark unaware
Winding ever higher
Darkness by her side
Spoke and passed her by
Dedicated hunter
Waits to pull us under
Rose up to it's call
In his arms she'd fall
Mother light received
And a faithful servant's free
In time the hissing of her sanity
Faded out her voice and soiled her name
And like marked pages in a diary
Everything seemed clean that is unstained
The incoherent talk of ordinary days
Why would we really need to live?
Decide what is clear and what's within a haze
What you should take and what to give
Ghost of perdition
A saint's premonition's unclear
Keeper of holy hordes
Keeper of holy whores
To see a beloved son
In despair of what's to come
If one cut the source of the flow
And everything would change
Would conviction fall
In the shadow of the righteous
The phantasm of your mind
Might be calling you to go
Defying the forgotten morals
Where the victim is the prey

The audio engineer deserves free beer for the rest of his life
The fucking drumming...amazing.
seriously haha
Absolutely agreed
Wenches and mead...
Wait, that's for Alestorm.
So right, sounds soooo good!
Ghost of perfection
Perfection indeed. 🔥
Lingering SHRED
Production/mixing team deserve a medal.
This.
On par with some of the best I've ever seen!
i agree.
That was the first thing I thought of when I heard this rendition. SO CRISP AND CLEAN. Wow.
For real... One of the best sounding live recordings I've ever heard.
Incredible.
*intellectually headbanging*
I was actually at this concert. The natural acoustics of Red Rocks is pretty amazing. Hats off to Opeth’s audio engineer, he made sure it sounded damn good through the whole amphitheater
Ok, after reading your first 5 words, I'm ravaged with jealousy! But I've seen them couple times, again riveting performances.
Åkerfeld is an extraordinary (holy shit) talent! No doubt as well, quite possessed 👀. 🦟
I'm in Denver too. Do you know if they'll be on tour here this year, & where? 🤘
As somebody who is old enough to have seen Black Sabbath as a teen in 1972, Opeth are the first band that I became to appreciate growl/harsh vocals. This transition in broadening my music tastes occurred via the Deliverance/Damnation albums. They drew me in with the prog and then hit me in the head with the heavy stuff. Love this band, so unique.
This is the first tune I heard by Opeth. I picked up Ghost Reveries because of Steven Wilson's involvement (I'm a huge Porcupine Tree fan), put it on and it blew my mind. Opened my ears to hearing the harsh vocals. We're of similar age, you and I; my tastes run from folk through bluegrass, jazz and on to hard rock, but Opeth was a revelation.
@@underwoodvoice9077 Steven Wilson weren't involved in Ghost Reveries, but on the earlier mentioned Damnation/Deliverance albums. Great song and album never the less!
@@kalas-kurt Yeah, thanks for the correction, I misspoke there. I heard about Wilson's involvement with the band, and Ghost Reveries was the current album at the time. And a great song and album indeed!
And in Black Water Park
agree, it took me time to appreciate how good they are
7:11
That growl is incredible
Still can't believ I was ACTUALLY at this show!
Most people can only appreciate just how unique of an experience something like this is in hindsight. How about you? Was it as good in the moment?
One of the best live performances I've ever seen.
Did anyone hear "I love you Michael!" at the beginning? 😅
I think if the totality of Opeth had to be summed up in one song across their entire catalog, this would be it. This song is so fucking good.
Low key Opeth anthem. All the ups and downs and Uppps that Operh can deliver 4:40
@@josephalexander4561 Hur durr I lurv some Operh
Sorry, couldn't let the opportunity pass by
I think it's the best Opeth Live so far. Beyond the setlist or what Mikael does not yet reach the depth in the growls, as before, the execution in the voices is impeccable, as well as the mix of the sound, it is incredible. In addition the second voices that Joakim does give much more brilliance to the album.
He's getting there. Noticed recently that the live growls are becoming a lot more sinister again and I would love to see him doing it on the next album. Not often, that's not the direction they are going, but definitely sometimes.
Absolutely agree ! Have you seen Lamentations '03 and Royal Albert Hall '10 ? They too are amazing
1:19 : Tool - The Grudge
:)
:)
Just gived Opeth a deep dive in, wow man, i was missing so much! But on the other hand now i have their whole opus to enjoy and discover, what a band, i'm stunned.
Opeth is just like wine, the older, the better.
I was a tattooist- I quit that job many years ago... But tattooing that letter O of the Opeth logo was a great experience itself... I did 2 or 3 of them+ couple of smaller and simplier versions for a young couple for their engagement🙂 It has been a long time, but this particular subject coming to my career as a tattooist is giving me deep and priceless memories🔝
No one can listen to this and think it's not a masterpiece, unless they can't hear the layers of incredible sound and precision without being overly technical creating such an organic mixture of so many elements.
you know the vocals are fake right????
@@aaronramirez9147 what do you mean?
I listen to this every single day about 1-3 times. Cant help but just smile everytime, such a masterpiece...
Was like 15 rows back for this so sick
Lucky
Opeth - Goosebumps
this video is a spiritual experience
Why I just discover this just NOW? 😳 What a Band!
Haven't listened to Opeth in a while now! Brings back so many memories of times when life was less distasteful.
Beautiful and perfect
5:11 OMG What a powerful symphony!
This is THE top of metal music!!
Best metal band that on live sounds like the record. What a joy 🤘. Watching this realizing I'm wearing their t-shirt.
sometimes even better than the records, which I believe makes them even better.
This sounds so incredible!! Huge fan of the original studio recording, but the mixing on this and videography makes this really special. And the lighting design is gorgeous.
3:05
Chills from head to toe
Gross
Fucking Masterpiece
such a beautiful beast
sound engineers did a fcking really good job
4:06 OMG that guitar sounds perfect right there!
GHOOSSSTTTTTTTT OOOFFFFF PERFECCCTTIIOONNNN!!!!
3:11 - "Mmmm, that microphone is tasty."
The more tone shifting on the instruments, the more Mikael takes his voice from clean to headbanger type instantly 😱
Not only the best of Opeth but one of the best LIVE METAL performance♥️🤘🏼😍👊🏼
Hardly their best. If anything, I would consider Ghost Reveries more their "Black Album."
But insane performance nonetheless.
@@BLUMPKING69 comparing metallica to opeth is a lol moment my friend.
Don't forget Deadhead by Devin Townsend, ua-cam.com/video/DrDM6V08wcE/v-deo.html
"Garden of the Titans" couldn't be more fitting. Outstanding performance, and production! What a treat
this is not just a song.. like carlo domeniconi's koyunbaba, a piece of art.
all i can remember is i played it in A-minor open
Clearly one of the greatest songs ever written.
so glad to her Mikael growling again. he has definitely improved, sounds much cleaner and less strained. anyone saying the growls are getting worse, well, i'm not sure what your comparing it to.
his old growls. basically before like 2014-ish. that's what we're comparing it to.
No more:(
What a masterpiece. Speechless
Impresionante! En este concierto todas las voces son absolutamente impecables. Puede que Mikael ya no alcance la profundidad de los growls de antes, pero el trabajo acá es genial! Además la segunda voz que hace Svalberg en todo el concierto es clave.
Great album that song gets me amped up!
Hot take opeth don't have 2 bad song. Perfect discography
I mean, doesn't get any better than this.. unbelievable performance 👏
Top notch mix. Sounds great.
I will eternally miss the presence of Martin Axenrot in Opeth: incredible drummer, heavy as possible, but he swings like a traditional jazzman.
The only reason I listen to Opeth is his drumming. Incredible. So now I listen to Bloodbath
Was at this show it was dope! Hevy Devy and Gojira killed it too.
Still my favorite
Listened to theirolder albums while reading Dean Koontz novel..result - nightmare!!!
I remember how much people hated this album when it came out in 2005. All because they had a video on MTV/VH1 and how it wasn't Blackwater Park and it wasn't Deliverance. Its been a masterpiece since day 1, still my favorite to this day.
I lived in Morrison for a bit and i loved being a bike ride away from there as a kid
I hope Ghost of Perdition means as much to them as it does to us.
That drumming is so fucking good. And the bass.
Such a masterpiece
Damn dude, Mikael's guturals looking sharp as they ever will be
I don’t see what went wrong...Mikael should be president of the world by now... that was your mission....
He still growling
This song is so well paced I didn't realise it was 10 mins, absolute 🔥
What a kickass live version.
perfect song
Master class in audio engineering, bravo to the team.
Holy shit he got his death growls back finally sounds top notch
Exactly what I was thinking!
@@somayajisai3576 he does not scream anymore
@@Deathslinger666 Thats because he has never screamed he growls big difference
@@hamishcounsell5579 haha growl still a scream moron
@@Deathslinger666 This is false
That's why growls and screams are different words and have different definitions.
edit: You can have a growl become a scream, and a scream become a growl, but they are not the same thing.
8:25 A Touch of Absolutely Killer Heavy Metal Vibrato Arm here!
good song
fully on top of their game, outstanding production. Bravo!
I love how this song influenced me when I first heard it on Sirius Hard Attack back in 2003-4ish! It changed how I thought about writing music!
7:03 security never had and easier job at a metal show
thank you youtube, putting in an add in the MIDDLE of the song....
that must have been painfull, it happens to me alot.
Such a great performance!
so tight!
Surprised they have seats there, mine was blown away.
I'm not watching an 11 minute music vide... Oh, wait. damn.
UM MONUMENTO QUE PUDE VER AO VIVO !!!
EU TE AMO DEMAIS OPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETH !
As good as the studio version which is amazing..
Isso aqui é a genialidade da forma mais pura possível. Não existe nada nesse universo mais absurdo, Opeth atingiu um nível jamais existente. Gênios.
Love it. Seen it hundreds of Times. Opeth is the best
it's so amazing
This was such a fun show. I got a little hammered.
Chills.
I just can't stay still while listening to this tune. Great band , great song and another amazing live performance.
Awesome production mix and epic stage setup!
Get the cameraman who fully captured the solo on guitar a fucking beer.
Chills every time I hear this song!
TOTAL
Ghost Reveries is the masterpiece of all Opeth records. Go to Beneath the Mire and take it all in BUT...wait until 5:46 seconds hits and that is one of dozens of moments that make this record the top of all Opeth records.
Beautiful...❤
I was waiting for this. Thank you.
Amazing!
Ghost of perdition 😬 🎵
This is perfect
Ghost reveries ... Best album of the band :-)
Beautiful performance!!!!
CARIOCA CLUB EU ESTAVA LÁ !
Simplesmente a melhor banda de Metal/Rock dos últimos 20 anos no mínimo. Vida longa
Opeth katatonia and devin townsend 3 greatest bands on the planet, imagine them on one gig
Devin Townsend actually played at that very gig where this video is from. the other special guest was gojira
What a beautiful video, performance and song!
Is amazing! this song is perfect!

Impossible sound 🎉
