A Japanese vegan here. About Ashitaka's costume... He was a member of Emishi, the ethnic group that existed in the current Tohoku area until the Heian Era (they were against the central government of Japan at the time and conquered in the end). In the movie, as a fictional story, Hayao Miyazaki made Emishi which was supposed to be diminished still exist in the Muromachi era, but in a hidden way. The costume is fictional, but it is an amalgam of Ainu design and Chinese design. Even though Emishi and Ainu are different people, but kanji of them is same (蝦夷) , both lived and lives in north of Japan, and both are and were target of elimination of Japanese central government. The reason you can see Chinese influence is that at least Ainu people traded things with China actively, I guess. What is interesting about Emishi is that they called "the children of wolves" to represent the savageness of them in the historical record. Princess Mononoke represents interestingly well Miyazaki's view of Japanese history (including environmental one) well. My most favorite Ghibli movie. Btw... I really loved this video. I have to throw a Ghibli -themed party! Thanks Mina!
Jesus loves you ❤️ Nothing can compare to how he loves you. When he hung on that cross, he thought of you. As they tore open his back, he thought of your prayer time with him. As the thorns dug into his head, he thought of you spending time in the word of God. As the spears went into his side, he imagined embracing you in heaven. Please turn to Jesus and repent and receive Salvation before it's too late. The end times described in the Bible are already happening in the world. Jesus was born into this world free of sin and then he died on the cross for our sins and God raised him from the dead on the third day. He is waiting for you with open arms. His heart longs for you.
I think the soup in the ghibli movie is a Japanese cream stew. It's actually made with flour and butter. If you're interested, I recommend the video by Japanese Cooking 101. The soup is super easy to veganize and tastes amazing! Instead of chicken, just use the seitan chunks from Fitgreenmind's NO CHICKEN recipe. 🥰
My grandmother used to make thumbprint cookies. It's actually a good starter cookie for kids to make since they're so simple. My grandmother's recipe was plain butter cookies, with the center being a piece of guava paste melted in the center. It is very common in the Caribbean alongside the usual sugar cookies. You see them a lot in school functions.
Love Ghibli movies and food, so perfect combination! The onigiri filling looks yummy, have to try it next time I make them! Btw, I'm sure a mold makes them prettier but it's totally possible to make them without. Never had problems just forming them by hand
i haven’t even seen these movies but i loved this video hehe 😊 curious to see pt. 2 of the vegan egg chemistry experiment too! last movie i watched was a Senegalese movie called Ceddo (directed Sembene who is considered the “father of african cinema” or something..) but i actually recommend a different one of his movies called Xala
I watched it while preparing my own lunch and now I crave something sweet. I'll definitely try the jam biscuits in future. Thanks for such a cozy video
Aw I love studio ghibli movies! I watched Spirited Away as a kid and randomly bits from the movie would pop into my head and I wasn’t sure what it was from until I watched it again. The last movie I watched was the Marvels earlier today. I’ve been meaning to make onigiri, that looks good. Recently, I made a stuffed rice ball and then cooked it in a pan so it got crispy
Please do more! It's so rare to find vegan Ghibli inspired food, I'm sharing this with my friend so we can do a cooking day involving these kinds of foods!! Last film I saw coincidentally was with aforementioned friend and we saw Imaginary. It was a silly kind of horror film, it was entertaining but probably good to just see when it's streaming somewhere.
i love the ghibli or anime themes food videos so much🥰. i can't remember the last movie that i've seen, but the last ghibli movie was the boy and the heron for sure.
your Ghibli-themed videos are the coziest thing ever! seriously I loved this one, I want to try the cookie recipe, it seemed so simple and just so comforting and cute. anyway the last movie I saw was probably aquaman and I was fairly disappointed so I do not recommend, unless you like shallow plot line:)
I watched Damsel on Netflix Friday night. I really liked it. I’m so glad you said that you didn’t understand the plot for The Boy and the Heron. I didn’t either!! I felt so dumb like, “what wrong with me? I’ve always been able to connect with Ghibli movies.” But I guess I need to give it another go. I really appreciate that you do everything plant based. My family and are vegan and huge Ghibli fans so this really helps me when my kids want a special Ghibli meal.👍
i love this video and please make more of these. i watched to the very end. spirited away was the last movie ive seen and ive seen it for like 100 times🤣🤣😍
Schaue immer bis zum Ende und würde weitere Ghibli Videos auch richtig gerne sehen!! 😍 letzter Film: Anatomie eines Falls (nach deiner Insta Empfehlung)
My ex was very surprised I had watched one Ghibli movies before (Kiki's Delivery Service) and was like "you have to watch Princess Mononoke!!" And I was traumatized
Wundervoll!
Lovely and inspiring video as always! It’s so nice to see how much love you pour into your food and videos - just like u said the Japanese pour into their food. Honestly I just watch every video of yours by default because they’re always amazing so I chose to watch this one even though I’ve never watched ghibli - but I’m glad I did, AMAZING recipes! This Japan theme reminded me how much I loved your „eating one cuisine for the whole day“ series, please bring that back!❤️ also never heard of white food colouring but the soup looks great, will try for sure (and probably just omit the colour). And I really don’t mind when you don’t recreate the „exact“ recipe since these videos really are just about inspiration! And that egg - insane! So sorry the yolk didn’t work out though 😢Another random thought: your kitchen always looks sooo put together and cozy! Love those bird vases, where did u get them?
And I always watch till the end! Cause for me your videos could be hours long and would still be too short for me! Last movie I watched was Barbie and tbh I was a little underwhelmed… like it’s good but imao it’s not super special?
I love these, they feel really accessible to make!! I don't remember the last movie I watched, but the last Studio Ghibli I watched was Tales from Earthsea as I've recently read the book :)
Hi, Mina. Long time watching your videos, but barely ever left a comment. First of all, let me thank you for this amazing video. I love this serie where you recreate food from movies/tv series, so I hope you will continue doing that. Regarding The Boy and the Heron, I highly recommend you giving it a second watch, as it helps focusing more on the meaning, rather than on the plot itself. I think this movie is all about grieving and acceptance seen through the eye of a japanese child living during the late 1940s. The director wanted to represent several aspects of his life and difficult childhood (i.e. we know that war is a redundant theme in his movies). Although I find it visually plesing and very entertaining, I do believe that it has some technical problems: the rhythm is very unbalanced, the true intention of the movie are not clear until 30/40 minutes in and it simply tries to say too much in a condensed space. That being said, it's a great movie and I really loved it!
Mina your videos are always made with such care! I remember as a kid always wanting to eat what was shown in these movies so bad 😂 although I think my #1 Ghibli food is still the cucumber and tomato in My Neighbour Totoro
I think I watch you're videos to the very end, most of the time at least. You're recipes are simple, tasty and some times really handy ☺️ The last movie I saw was "Tell it to the bees". So beautiful 💛
Ich finde diese Videos super, könnte ich jeden Tag schauen😍 tatsächlich war der letzte Film den ich gesehen habe sogar Chihiros Reise ins Zauberland, das Video kommt also zum perfekten Zeitpunkt! :)
Great video! Princess Mononoke is possibly my favourite of all the Ghiblis. And you're right, Avatar the last airbender totally does steal from it (or homage I guess, I can't be mad about it because Avatar is so amazing too) 💜
These videos are so comforting ❤ can’t remember the last movie I watched (more into books! Just finished The Humans by Matt Haig and have The Body Keeps Score on the go rn). Would definitely love to see more Ghibli videos ❤❤❤
I absolutely love these kinds of videos! We have been to Japan several times and my husband and I fell in love with their culture and cuisine. Thanks to your work, I am going back to this beautiful country, at least for a while. I highly recommend the currently released Japanese movie Perfect days 🖤Watching this movie melted my heart and not to mention the amazing soundtrack.
The last movie I watched was actually "The Boy and the Heron" :) I also liked it a lot but wasn't quite sure if I understood it all xD Roughly I think it was about overcoming your grief and learning to live again. But all the little details and why a heron of all birds. No clue xD
@@bybycobb At least according to some interviews, the heron is supposed to be a representation of Studio Ghibli producer Suzuki Toshio. Mahito (the protagonist) is representative of Miyzaki Hayao and makes a lot of auto-biographical references to his youth. Meanwhile, the elder Granduncle is a stand in for former Studio Ghibli director Takahata Isao (RIP). Wikipedia cites this now as well: "Suzuki spoke of Miyazaki's desire to create the film based on personal experiences and relationships when he proposed it in 2016. He was initially taken aback, given Miyazaki's avoidance of highly personal themes. The narrative is inspired by Miyazaki's (Mahito) professional relationships with Isao Takahata (Granduncle) and Suzuki (Heron), and integrates themes of destruction, reconstruction and imagination. Following Takahata's death in 2018, revisions were made to the film, shifting the focus from the Granduncle to the relationship between Mahito and Heron. Suzuki observed that Miyazaki's storytelling choices were deeply influenced by the memories shared between the two."
I loged this video so much!! Keep it up, hope to see some more videos like this soon. As for the last film I saw, it was The Intouchables. It is a lovely and heartwarming story, highly recommend it to anyone!!
Eating bread with jam (or anything else) for breakfast or dinner is still really common where I live, in Czechia. But then, it´s just over the border so 😆
I love when you do these videos it makes me want to watch a movie or show and see what they eat and do the same thing 👍 And I am going to do that soon!!❤
Thank you so much for these lovely videos! As a vegan you can sometimes feel like you're missing out on some stuff, and your themed videos help with that.
I really love your vegan recreation of fictional foods 🙂 also, I watched recently and, as someone who didn't like barbies and mistreated when was a kid, I really was skeptical going into it, but I really loved it.
Not the most recent movie, but the last one I've watched was "Eyes wide shut" (of course not at the cinema lol). Probably my new favorite movie to be honest, it's that good! By the way thanks, your videos are always pretty chill :)
Last movie I saw was a rewatch of the Meg, I discovered there is a line to quote Dori from Finding Nemo ^^ Also, all of the food you made looks sooooooooooooo yummy, thanks for sharing!
I’ve never seen any of these, but this video was super cozy and I might watch one tonight. I can’t even remember the last movie I saw… but probably Encanto, which was of course awesome!

I love that it's such a worldwide loved recipe, I think it's Swedish from the beginning, here we calm them hallongrottor - raspberry caves
I’m food studies graduate student and we are studying Spirited Away because of this! There are several connotations within food to look at
studio ghibli's films are like a love letter to simple yet comforting food😍
I believe Ashitaka's clothing is based on the clothes of an indigenous group in Japan. Mina Le did a great video about it!
Love Ghibli movies and food, so perfect combination!
The onigiri filling looks yummy, have to try it next time I make them! Btw, I'm sure a mold makes them prettier but it's totally possible to make them without. Never had problems just forming them by hand
Nights in Rodanthe 🤭 I remember sobbing watching it as a teen but I just found it cheesy now
i haven’t even seen these movies but i loved this video hehe 😊 curious to see pt. 2 of the vegan egg chemistry experiment too!

I really enjoyed this video! I recently watched The Shawshank Redemption. Great film.
Last night I watched "Orion and the Dark" on Netflix! ❤
Soo comforting to watch 🤍
The last movie I watched was I think The boy and the heron actually. Watched it twice and I loved it each time!
