Yo simply if you don't know what to say on some streams, just say what you're thinking. Don't feel pressured to always be up or something when you're like groggy or down or grumpy, that'll just make you more grumpy. I think a lot of people think they need to act like a certain personality or something, just say what you're thinking at that given time. Show a full range of emotion. That's what socializing is. Imo. (I say this just cuz I saw the puppy stream and I'm like, ok bro, was he like not sure of what to say, so he went full like risk-averse conservative "I'll just make cute noises with the puppies" or what's up). Just say what you're thinking, show a full range of emotion. If you have some complicated thought, then you can also say it. I could be reading too much into it, this is just my opinion.
My eyes glazed over at that first setup. There had to be a better way. Good on Krithalith for putting in a monstrous amount of work to not only refine the technique, but make a guide any speedrunner can use.
I cant give enough credit to www.youtube.com/@Krithalith for creating this setup. He is a legend. Check out his Orthagonal Jones video here: ua-cam.com/video/hbPAJ_OrT28/v-deo.html Also something I forgot to cover that some people are asking about is routing changes. Basically because Rainbow Ride is at the end of the run / at the top of the castle, it is slower to go to it any earlier than the end of the run. There is a theoretical route that goes to RR within 20-30 minutes, however that route only will save 17 seconds assuming you hit carpetless, which after hitting is gonna most likely make the rest of the run even scarier. I predict most runners will stick with the standard route however time will tell.
Lets see whem the legend Jobst gets to make a video about it. And man, as a non player of Mario, but a connoisseur of people who speedrun and spend time figuring these things out, I do like videos like this
Finally, been waiting for this Aladdin ass skip to get figured for years. That carpet too slow, ain’t no way Mario going to impress his princess Jasmine with that dusty ass Roomba
I had my doubts and said “no way” when I saw the thumbnail, but I gotta say, my mind is blown. The gaming and speed running community is incredibly resourceful.
It's crazy that you post this within days of kosmic posting about nitsky and his path to perfection. It's awesome that more barriers in Super Mario speedrunning are being overcome.
14 years ago I could do Wall Kicks, 14 years later Wall Kicks = Life hacks, who knew 🙂 Though, I feel like they should not be allowed in real time runs, the trick is just insane, the amount of knowledge needed to perform the trick is like a “You must understand to play this level” gateway. They are a lot of reasons why people don’t want it in runs. It will be such a shame if this trick gets put behind though. All of those hours for no good use. Let me know your opinions on this.
Oh the trick is gonna be implemented in top level 120 star runs. It's a forgone conclusion at this point. The lovely thing about long categories though, is that you really don't need to hit every trick. You can def still get solid times without carpetless if you wanna just do it for the challenge. The top runners are grinding this trick for good reason though, it's been demonstrated to be RTA viable so folks are gonna do it.
@@webbowser8834 It is certainly going to juice things up. I do agree with the every little mistake loses time, even one day we will get “NO MISTAKES 2” and have the perfect run. The trick is still a meme, but it’s a meme that aged well. Will be expecting great things in time to come.
It‘s kind of surreal to watch this unfold. My twitch-recommendations are now full of „carpetless practice“ or similar stuff every day. I don‘t think I ever was around when a new trick like this was discovered and I‘m so looking forward to the moment when the first fully run comes out that actually uses it!
I shared that sentiment also. My opinion was that 120 star wr would use carpetless sometime during my lifetime. It will just happen sooner than I thought now.
why does it matter whether or not a trick is "in the spirit of the community"? the whole point of speedrunning is perfectionism, reaching the end state in as little time as possible. there's a reason why people don't like perfectionism in the real word: it's unrealistic and exclusionary. the same thing will hold true in speedrunning. the difference is, you can find happiness elsewhere anytime if you want in speedrunning. you don't need to go for WR if you don't feel like practising new strats. you can work on progressing other areas of speedrunning, such as a level that doesn't get much attention, or in some other category.
The degree to which TAS-ers & speedrunners can unpick the fabric of a game and weave it back together to save fractions of a second (especially in a game that's multiple decades & many generations of technology old), never fails to impress.

6:45 Welcome to boomerhood, Suigi. Your raisin bran will be mailed to you shortly.
The first WR with carpetless is gonna be so hype
And then it wasn't
Suigi getting it 11x in a row is really impressive, but he's also still practicing the 120 strats. I dont think we'll see a full run from him for a while. He might not be the FIRST 120 WR to use this, but when he gets around to it, it will be GLORIOUS.
The Mario 64 speedrun community might as well be made of rocket scientists
Not unless rockets are designed with an etch a sketch
@@tappy8741 ...gonna be honest, i would not be surprised if at least one were.
The fact that people were getting pissed because they just suck is hilarious. "No you can't use this glitch to beat my record because I'm too ass to do it"
never thought I'd see the day.. i love sm64 speedrunning
We’re just living a future Summoning Salt script
I commend Krithalith’s passion for this community
Stoked that there's new life to this category. I've always really enjoyed watching your content and am excited that there's new life in this passion you have.
SM64 has definitely been approaching the human potential barrier, AND THESE SPEEDRUNNERS ALWAYS FIND A WAY TO GET AROUND IT! It's incredible, and famtastic video btw
geometry dash is still in the corner
Can't wait for summoning salt to make a video about this
Yo simply if you don't know what to say on some streams, just say what you're thinking.
4:20 could be substituted with the method Spongebob used to make perfect bubbles and it would be about equally sensical
Literally an OoT setup, I love it 😂 Very glad to see SM64 still getting new discoveries 🔥
I love how he called this like an OoT trick like it's an insult. I know it's not but it feels like there is a tiny bit of derision there.
I have no idea what any of this is or why this was recommended but I’m locked in
I just can’t wait to see the Karl Jobst video on the new record when it happens. “The player achieved THIS RUN.” *shivers*
As a Mario og, honestly proud of you guys, wild this game is still getting love after all these years.
My eyes glazed over at that first setup. There had to be a better way. Good on Krithalith for putting in a monstrous amount of work to not only refine the technique, but make a guide any speedrunner can use.
He's finally back! Ive been searching every few days thinking my subscription was messed up. Lookin good man
Does this mean the 100 coin star will be paired with something else now?
it'll get paired with the box star where you shoot out of the cannon on the ship
Love the breakdown on such a niche thing. Good video, watched the whole thing.
What a time to be alive.
For sure, all of those oversaturated carpetless jokes everyone made and now this happens 😆
This is sick! Thanks for the breakdown and the hype. I love speedruns but mostly stick to Zelda and RE runs - I might have to watch Mario runs now!!
What I love about these discoveries is it essentially resets the extremely optimized ladder and gives everyone a more hope for and chance for glory.
For short glory until suigi claims it again after 3 attempts.
I cant give enough credit to www.youtube.com/@Krithalith for creating this setup. He is a legend.
Check out his Orthagonal Jones video here: ua-cam.com/video/hbPAJ_OrT28/v-deo.html
Also something I forgot to cover that some people are asking about is routing changes.
And man, as a non player of Mario, but a connoisseur of people who speedrun and spend time figuring these things out, I do like videos like this
Lol
Crybaby
this channel is the FAS to TAS pipeline
Finally, been waiting for this Aladdin ass skip to get figured for years. That carpet too slow, ain’t no way Mario going to impress his princess Jasmine with that dusty ass Roomba
I had my doubts and said “no way” when I saw the thumbnail, but I gotta say, my mind is blown.
The gaming and speed running community is incredibly resourceful.
It's crazy that you post this within days of kosmic posting about nitsky and his path to perfection. It's awesome that more barriers in Super Mario speedrunning are being overcome.
Feels like barrier skip
Seeing all the clips of people who are getting Carpetless and sometimes even multiple times in a row has been insane
14 years ago I could do Wall Kicks, 14 years later Wall Kicks = Life hacks, who knew 🙂
Though, I feel like they should not be allowed in real time runs, the trick is just insane, the amount of knowledge needed to perform the trick is like a “You must understand to play this level” gateway.
Will be expecting great things in time to come.
cant fathom being an adult playing mario 64 while us 90s OG chads beat the game at age 10 and never looked back
THE CARPETLESS IS REAAAAAAAAAAL
Literally getting much higher (so high)
UA-cam finally put you on my suggested channel list. Great video and just subscribed!
Hearing Simply describe the directions to do carpetless is like listening to spongebob tell you how to blow the perfect bubble.
I predicted it. I remember so many fucking years ago saying SURRRRELY someone would eventually find a consistant way to carpetless. Gg ez c:
I shared that sentiment also. My opinion was that 120 star wr would use carpetless sometime during my lifetime. It will just happen sooner than I thought now.
I'm not much into speed running or Mario 64. But this was a well written essay. Very entertaining and I could follow the whole time. Dope!
why does it matter whether or not a trick is "in the spirit of the community"? the whole point of speedrunning is perfectionism, reaching the end state in as little time as possible. there's a reason why people don't like perfectionism in the real word: it's unrealistic and exclusionary. the same thing will hold true in speedrunning. the difference is, you can find happiness elsewhere anytime if you want in speedrunning. you don't need to go for WR if you don't feel like practising new strats. you can work on progressing other areas of speedrunning, such as a level that doesn't get much attention, or in some other category.
The degree to which TAS-ers & speedrunners can unpick the fabric of a game and weave it back together to save fractions of a second (especially in a game that's multiple decades & many generations of technology old), never fails to impress.
Wait, this isn't a Karl Jobst video
I've been watching you for so long, and I remember you talking about walking up that pole in jjr, and now we are here like 2 to 3 years later in something none of us knew what possible
I liked my own comment
ITS A MONDAY AND I JUST FARTED
That "almost full rotation of Mario" step of the older setup sounded an awful lot like the "draw the owl" step of drawing an owl
Looking forward to the Summoning Salt video when these records start to be broken.
You gotta keep aria man, their editing’s great. Summoning Salt Presents: The Race For The Perfect Carpetless SM64 120 Star.
It's crazy to think that a game that's coming up on 30 years old is still being optimized to this day. Wild stuff.
It's giving "hope you hit the fairy at the last part of Wind Waker" and "Mew is under the truck.
imagine getting 118 stars and you fail carpetless, I would kms
