This videos’ takes absolutely blew me away. For seemingly being rather analytical of music, these rankings did not line up with what I expected from this guy. I had to check to see if this video was posted on April First. Everyone’s got their opinion, just very surprised these ones coming from Alfo.
That’s the thing about popularity, it almost is never something of anyones best, it’s usually a thing that the person who made it didn’t expect to go popular
"I absolutely think any hate on [Bodak Yellow] is founded in sexism, because it's one of the most exciting and charismatic rap songs of the century." I found it. The worst music take on UA-cam
A great memory of mine takes place at a party of which I knew the host really well. I have no idea how it came to me but a decent stretch into the night I asked him to put on Bad Romance by Lady Gaga and he was looking at me funny at first but put it on anyway. By the time the first chorus hit, the entire room was just yelling "oooOOOOoOOOOOH OH OH CAUGHT IN A BAD ROMANCE" and jamming to a 10 year old pop song most guests thought they forgot about. What an absolute banger
I don't think I've disagreed more with a take on this entire channel then "You are lying to yourself if Baby isn't one of the catchiest songs you've ever heard" If it's catchy, then for all the wrong reasons. Everything about that song makes me cringe so hard, from his Squeaky Baby Voice, to the repetitive chorus, to the whiny ass synths, to Luda's corny ass verse, that song has consistently been one of my least favourite songs period. I did very much enjoy the video though. Feel dumb for never realizing Bohemian Rhapsody was based on Faust lol.
It is all of those things you described and I’m not personally that big of a fan of baby myself, but U gotta admit whether it is catchy for right or wrong reasons it is the most catchy song you’ve ever heard. I haven’t listened to it in full since I was 7 and I can remember the entire first verse.
The fact there is only one 1900's song is sad, some other songs that should be diamond: Guns N Roses - November Rain Prince - Purple Rain David Bowie - Heroes Police - Every Breath You Take Beatles - Hey Jude Whitney Houston - I wanna Dance with Somebody Elton John - Rocketman Bon Jovi - It's My Life Etc.
Serious shade throw at Nicki Minaj in this video oml. Actually hold up HOW DARE you say the Cardi B paved the way for female rap WHEN YOU KNOW FOR A FACT that it was Nicki Minaj who did that
And that's forgetting the fact that many of the people that hate Bodak Yellow were fans of Nicki Minaj or some of her songs and that many went on to be fans of Megan thee Stallion and Doja Cat. This is without considering the other female hip hop artists from previous generations.
@@fbch32 linking the personal enjoyment of a piece of media to the beliefs of someone relating to racism, sexism, etc. is always a bad idea. I makes zero sense in almost every context. Unless the persons reason for disliking a piece of media is because of racism or sexism, there is absolutely no connection. I personally am not a big fan of female rappers, but that because all of them I’ve heard so far use the same modern rap style that I dislike. I also don’t listen to much contemporary pop. I dislike many male rappers and artists for the same reason. If there is any female rappers that deviate from the current rap style I’d be glad to listen to them. It has nothing to do with gender, I’d listen to a robot rap if sounded good.
Seemingly at the time of the video the only diamond songs made before 2000 were “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Something About The Way You Look Tonight” Still weird though as I would of “Hey Jude” would of been diamond
There's something poetic about Queen being in the first spot and Lady Gaga in the second!!! both masterpieces!! That Florida Georgia Line song was massively overplayed in every rural part of North America, esp on country radio but also on pop radio as a crossover hit. I got so sick of it

Glad Bad Romance is at the very top of the list, while very few would argue its better than Bohemian Rhapsody (most people wouldnt argue any song is). It still is one of the most fresh timeless pieces of music even outside of Gaga’s old persona
I feel that King Crimson is a band, deserving of a diamond track. Their discography is severely underrated, and some may even argue their songs are BETTER than the likes of Bohemian Rhapsody.

I genuinely think Bohemian Rhapsody is the best song ever made. It's not my personal favorite (though I obviously love it) but I think it's just so objectively incredible. It's a feat of music with the vocal layering and the storytelling that gets you to feel for a murderer and the theatrical, operatic feel that on paper should never have gone diamond like it did. I just think it's such a feat of musical ingenuity and it's so emblematic of Queen as a band, I can't think of another song that is quite as flawless and ingenious.
I think I disagreed with almost every opinion on this video. Saying Post Malone's music has been the same in the last 5 years and than saying Sunflower is a bit different is contradictory in itself. There are other contradictory takes in here, but yeah.. Also, funny that you mention the Blurred Lines incident, but when its Cardi B you bring up sexism. Still, enjoyed the video.

On a separate note, I like the way you did the ranking. It's good to get other perspectives, but it's even better when they have a different background related to the topic. In this case, your girlfriend being from Berkley, and the topic being music. It's always nice watching your videos. 😄🎵

3:51 I couldn't agree with you less, haha. Sorry, but I think the lyrics are more about happiness all on your own and in the face of adversity ❤. To each their own though
Considering up until the top spot all the diamond certified songs have been from the 21st Century, I was really struggling to work out what would top Bad Romance. Then it all made sense 🖤 Bohemian Rhapsody truly is in a league of it's own and I think the moral of the story is release a song with the initials B R.
Fully agree on bad romance I'd never love mega hit pop song as much as that Lady gaga seductive voice in the pre chorus was legendary Add that to chorus that i cant forget forever Never bored of bad romance
That’s the point, it was made with the intention to sound happy and make you feel happy rather then actually being that happy anyway, it’s hella contrived and feels like a kids song when it actually isn’t.
I legit would have put We Are Young at first place. I genuinely think it’s a timeless masterpiece. fun. is a great band and their magnum opus will always remain one of the greatest songs ever written.

Exactly. No way that there is not a single song from the 60s, 70’s and 90’s among the most popular songs of all time. This is basically the most popular song since the 21st century list and thats about all it can claim.
Look I love post malone but everyone’s getting too upset that he’s quite low on the list. This vid is literally comparing a huge amount of songs, taking into account that they’re not innovative but why they are catchy. As someone who’s not American, I can tell you posty was not topping charts in other countries for long, not to even mention older generations, so this list is not super wrong all things considered.
"its not experimental", "he is too comfortable here". BRUH. What kind of innovative and never-heard-new types of songs do you expect to hear on all time popular list? On sight from yeezus or whatever death grips doing? of course its all simple and easy songs, average people do not want to hear crazy stuff.. I dont get why you dive in this list and say things like that.
I agree. The value of simple tunes with simple universally relatable themes was severely underappreciated for a ranking of a popular list. He's rating it like a music snob and that so clearly doesn't work for this.
Alfo, I would really appreciate it if you'd stop being like "I don't like this but you gotta comend how popular it was". If you don't like a song or think it's eh just say that, let your opinion decide where your songs lie.

You two are so lucky that you have never heard the meant to be song. I worked at a shop where we controlled the radio and I would run to turn it off every time it would come on. I had less pain after my wisdom teeth removal then when I heard that song. Mind you, I had all of my wisdom teeth at once and they broke my jaw to do it.

This take is in no way of disrespecting the artists involved with the song. Its a judgment of the song itself... the very annoying song. Lol

That sounds absolutely horrible, I knew wisdom teeth removal could be bad (still have to do mine) but...to that extent? yikes
The Post Malone hate is real tho... Also, to say Love the Way you Lie has a soap opera-ish premise, to then just go and praise Somebody that I used to Know for the same is mad silly. This list is bonkers, but, yeah, it's impossible for a list like this to not seem like bs to no one. Good video.

This videos’ takes absolutely blew me away. For seemingly being rather analytical of music, these rankings did not line up with what I expected from this guy. I had to check to see if this video was posted on April First. Everyone’s got their opinion, just very surprised these ones coming from Alfo.
why what did you disagree with?
I gotta be honest, a good number of them should've been replaced with better tracks from the same artists.
That’s the thing about popularity, it almost is never something of anyones best, it’s usually a thing that the person who made it didn’t expect to go popular

If it's catchy, then for all the wrong reasons.

Totally agree. Its a blah song, even by Beiber's low standards.
Agree. Sorry, and just anything from purpose for that matter is 100x better
It is all of those things you described and I’m not personally that big of a fan of baby myself, but U gotta admit whether it is catchy for right or wrong reasons it is the most catchy song you’ve ever heard. I haven’t listened to it in full since I was 7 and I can remember the entire first verse.
The fact there is only one 1900's song is sad, some other songs that should be diamond:
Guns N Roses - November Rain
Prince - Purple Rain
David Bowie - Heroes
Police - Every Breath You Take
Beatles - Hey Jude
Whitney Houston - I wanna Dance with Somebody
Elton John - Rocketman
Bon Jovi - It's My Life
Etc.
Serious shade throw at Nicki Minaj in this video oml. Actually hold up HOW DARE you say the Cardi B paved the way for female rap WHEN YOU KNOW FOR A FACT that it was Nicki Minaj who did that
Disliking Bodak Yellow does not equal sexism. I can't stand Cardi B, but Doja Cat is one of my favorite artists. It's all up to personal preference.

There's something poetic about Queen being in the first spot and Lady Gaga in the second!!! both masterpieces!! @@JohnKivi66 agreed, as a woman, people calling criticism “sexist” because it was lobbied at a woman pisses me off almost as much as sexism itself.
