Sings a Beatle song, wrongly attributes it to Simon and Garfunkel and then goes on to say you don’t like The Beatles! Priceless!!!
🤣😂🤣
"Overrated". Lol.
Him talking about Elton John - 'I'm not a giant fan of them, and then a song comes up by them that I love and I feel dumb' - Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, another BEATLES song
Exact same thought... I mean there are bands I personally prefer to The Beatles (eg The Kinks), but that doesn't mean The Beatles weren't groundbreaking...
And the Beatles are "overrated", but he doesn't realise that the first hit the Rolling Stones had was written by THE BEATLES! (I wanna be your man)
Great morning of memories for a child of the 70s
Here comes the Sun was The Beatles.
Save your Kisses for me was The Brotherhood of Man. They won The Eurovision Song contest that year.
Like McJibbin but loved when he said ‘I love Simon and Garfunkel didn’t they sing Here comes the sun?’ As the Beatles are in background with Let it be!
Also Bridge over troubled water is arguably their most famous song. Needs to listen to more S and G! 😂
"Here Comes the Sun" was by the group you called "overrated"😉
You can go off people Connor.....just saying... Have you ever watched a doc or film about WHY The Beatles are GOAT? I think you would see/hear things differently.
hahaha well said
That was awesome .. Didn't S&G do Here Comes The Sun? Beatles are overrated...
@@danmayberry1185 Also, sorry Connor, "I love S&G but don't know this" as they sing their MOST famous song.
Connor, how to lose friends and distanncs people@@DawnSuttonfabfour
When all but 1 song is recognisable and you were born at the end of the decade… just shows how amazing and enduring the music was.
True but I'm from '79 and I know most popular songs from the 50s and 60s as well and the 70's was the era (pop) music gained in airtime both on radio (more stations, more diversity) and TV.
“ Here Comes the Sun “ is a Beatles song……Simon and Garfunkel are icons known for “ Bridge Over Troubled Water “, “ Sound of Silence “ “ The Boxer “ “ I Am a Rock “ “ Mrs. Robinson “, “ Cecilia “ and many many more.
The 70s was a great time to be young and listening to music in the UK. Just about anybody from any genre could have a Top Ten Hit. If they had talent. From country, rock or soul, it didn't matter.
Oh wow what a great trip down memory lane. I was actually alive in the 70s so remember most of these from the first time around. Queen and Abba were so awesome.
I'd LOVE to see reactions to the 60'ies, 80'ies and 90'ies as well.
12:25 The blond half (David Soul) of the 1970s action television show "Starsky & Hutch". He died recently. RIP.
Melanie (featured in this list with her hit "brand new key" and who got known after she performed at woodstock at 22 yo, has passed away a few days ago on the 23th at age 76
In 2022 she came to the netherlands to perform live. She was still performing at age 76 what a legend.
R.I.P Melanie
R.I.P David Soul.
70s music was so great because the artists had REAL talent!! No autotune, no building music around an image! 100% talent. If you couldn't sing, you didn't become an artist!!
Hope you're not including the "Bay City Rollers"?
@johnp8131 okay, maybe 99.9% of the time you needed genuine talent!! But the rollers still had some catchy tunes!
Kiss ???
@@markschattefor6997 Kiss were cool. My aunt was in the kiss army!!!
70s music was great. Yet I think the 80s still got it beat - more variety and creativity. Still at the end of the 80s things started to turn bad with "manufactured artists" popping up (Astley and Minogue, "manufactured" by SAW, comes to mind).
Here comes the sun. Beatles 1969
❤ Sung by The Beatles,
written by George Harrison❤
The Wings videos play, “looks like McCartney 🤔” - yes sir!
He needs to learn about The Beatles before slagging them off.
@@lem01uk But he honestly admitted that he doesn't know much about music, he just enjoy music he likes, but obviously saying the Beatles are overrated is what he'd heard through the grapevine...
I was born in 1948….so the music of the 60s, 70s and some of the 80s stuff was exceptional! Then my musical taste broadened out to include more musical genres. Including classical. One of my current favourites is your own Home Free! Saw them in Birmingham,U.K. in September…superb!
My era, Great songs.
Cher was singing in the 60s, Sonny & Cher.
The Hollies- One of my favourite groups.
Annies song is one of the best.
Did you know Killing me Softly is about Don Mclean,
Lori Lieberman saw him in concert and was so moved by the song he sang she wrote about it and got some composers to put it to music.
You realise what a great decade it was when you could double the number of songs that were so popular back then and still leave some out.
Ah, Boney M. A music group casted by the German Grank Farian who also sung the male voice himself. This band only 'sung' full playback, similar as Millie Vanillie, another popular 'full playback' band by Frank Farian.
Frank Farian actually died a few days ago. His first studio was near the place I work at.
Yeah at Swedish public services they had a question about them in a quiz show this weekend in light of his passing.
I was 11 when Grease came out and new every with of the songs word for word.
Most of the songs on here are so iconic. Sadly, there are only a few songs today I’d be able to remember as everyone sounds the same.
Here comes the sun, the irony!
I feel so lucky to have been a teenager during the 1970's. We had such fun at the local discos. I still have lots of those songs on vinyl singles. Good choice Connor. Loved watching you react to these songs.
I was in my twenties in the seventies, this brought back lots of memories. It was certainly a lot more fun than being in my seventies in the twenties 😂
It seems like that you never watched the movie "Convoy". There was a clip from february 1976. If it's right, oh my god, you need to, as soon as possible. You will remember it forever. Thank you Connor
some brief facts for you: The BeeGees were brothers. Andy Gibb was not part of the group but was the youngest of the brothers; Roberta Flack's hit KILLING ME SOFTLY was revived by Lauren Hill and the Fuggees; The British group THE BROTHERHOOD OF MAN & ABBA & BOCCARA & CLIFF RICHARD all were in Eurovision. both BTM and ABBA won with their songs presented here. This was my era. i had a blast enjoying it with you.
Beatles overestimated! Every record they made there was something that had never been done before. They broke the mould for ever. You grew up in a musical world in which their influence is inescapable.
god some great childhood memories......
The Beatles and 70s Elton were AMAZING.
I agree John Denver is fabulous though
That one song was okay, but otherwise JD was meh, and memorable mainly for being hated by Monty Python.
@@DadgeCity your opinion. I disagree entirely ive got many of his songs!
@@DadgeCityand writing and recording the song Leaving on a Jet Plane with the lyrics "I'm leaving on a jet plane, don't know when I'll be back again" and then dying when he crashed a plane he was flying (albeit it light aircraft).
Pretty great line-up, you can see Abba and Bee Gees really picking up steam. I don't think Rolling Stones are better than The Beatles, The Beatles wrote the Stones first hit. They were friends, the closest thing to a rivalry was probably The Stones being originally billed as the 'bad boy' alternative to them. All 4 Beatles had solo hits, where you saw their individual strengths and weaknesses, but they were greater together. The best way to understand their greatness is probably listening to the musical progression of their albums, particularly from 1965-69, from Rubber Soul to Abbey Road they were unstoppable.
I was alive through all that, and what great memories. Now I feel old 😊
Love You Connor....Nice One Man, Really good to see you do some music reactions, hope you're having a great weekend!!
Ringo went on to do the legendary Thomas the tank engine 👌
here comes the sun is from the Beatles
Loved this, 70’s was my teenage years. More please, maybe 80’s Next?
Over here in the uk 70s best music decade ever.
Well done Connor, the Beatles are now Lennon , McCartney, Starr and Morrison lmfao
Jim was moonlighting!
@@PUNKinDRUBLIC72 opened s lot of doors for him
@@gloryguyful very good! 😂😂
the 70s were awesome, Connor. Shame you missed them
Yay! You did it. Please do the 80s and 90s ones too!
Yes Wings was Paul McCartney's other group.
Nods along to George Harrison!
He was in the Beatles? 😂😂
Beatles overrated ????? You wouldn't say that if you were there like i was.
When people wrote material and played all the instruments and had talent
Not everyone was a singer/songwriter, even in the 70's. Elton only wrote the music, not the lyrics, for example and many of the songs in this vid were not written by the artistes who performed them. Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman were the Stock Aitken Waterman of the 70's and wrote huge numbers of hits through into the 90's, with Blondie and Huey Lewis as just two of their customers. It's a mistake to think of all artistes of the era as writing their own songs, though quite a number did. The Beatles was one of the first bands that did write their own songs, and they wrote songs for other artistes, but even they did covers on their first few albums. Help had 2 covers on it as well.
Yeah sorry a lot of 60s 70s bands didn't write their own stuff
First time ever I saw your face was written by Ewan McColl (English folk singer), father of Kirsty McColl.
*70s and 80s were definitely not carefree times*
Vietnam War, Watergate, Three Mile Island Accident, Tenerife Airport Disaster, US Embassy in Iran taken hostage, Falklands War, Chernobyl Disaster
to name just a handful...
As a young teen in the 1980s, I wondered why we never heard much from Donna Summer. She had a few hits that were all top notch.
Only a few years ago I found out she made a lot more music but it's just that most of the lyrics were 'very adult.'
I am in my seventies now and remember every one of those songs, And it was such a great time for music, And by the way, I am an avid viewer of your channel. I love it.
The Beatles "_overated_"?!😮😮😮😮😮 .
... Speechless!!!! Fchriiissake Connor?!! Jeeeeezus!!
This was the best of the '70s .. the way Barbie was the best action movie.
The song for July 1970 was the first #1 song when American Top 40 was first broadcast on the radio with Casey Kasem as host.
Thanks Connor, completely enjoyed that. I went from 7 to 17 in the 70s and remember the vast majority of these. The 70s WAS the era of disco, by 1980 things were already moving on. Will always love this decade, takes me to a good place 😊
Kate Bush was waaaaay ahead of her time.
1000% she was so underrated that it's criminal
Agreed. Quite a few fabulous lady singers on this video. @@Galantus1964
Ahead of time usually means that they were pioneers of some genre. Then there are those that do something so different that it bypasses time completely, creating a parallel timeline. She has been an inspiration to a LOT of artists but has anyone done the same, made songs like was on The Kick Inside album? She is her own genre.
BTW, David Gilmour produced that album, she had some major names backing her up at the time. Not a surprise, i've head demo version of Wuthering Heights and it is clear immediately that she is something entirely different, making something that the world has to hear, no matter the costs. Very significant album in music history, but also, very unique. Her later albums are great but the first one is special. If i believed in spirits, they would be involved. The way she uses chord progressions and melody is just amazing, they are worth a deeper study if you are a musician.
Yes...and that was just the one, very short, clip...then I suppose most of her music would've been into the eighties, would it... 🤔
@@Galantus1964 Kate busy definitely wasn't underated at all.
"Waterloo" is what put ABBA on the map in 1974. They were Sweden's entry in that year's Eurovision song contest, which they ended up winning.
I was impressed (as a stereotypical Eurovision fan) by how many songs on the list were from Eurovision contestants: ABBA of course, but also Brotherhood of Man, Olivia Newton John, and Cliff Richard. Also, more British acts than I expected on a global list (Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bee Gees, Elton John, Brotherhood of Man, Bay City Rollers, Kate Bush, Cliff Richard, Olivia Newton John, Eric Clapton, Rod Stewart, Andy Gibb, possibly others I missed)
Yes, you missed Pink Floyd !
@@imeandmyself525 I’m kinda shocked at myself for that tbh.
Baccara too (for Eurovision contestants)!
'70's and 80's a carefree time.' The first five years the N.V.A. were kicking the U.S. out of Vietnam!
And don't forget the cold war.
I started out thinking this was in America, and then it got weird with songs that weren't hits there... reading the blurb under the original video, it seems it's an attempt to do an international list using chart placings from lots of different countries. Kinda props to them for giving it a go, I guess.
Karen Carpent 16:04 er had such a great voice.
Loved David Cassidy.
George Harrison was the best Beatle in my opinion.
So many of these are on my regular playlist.
Good reaction. The '70s was a very varied decade. You should also do the '60s and '80s compilations of these at least (I know you seemed a bit negative about the '80s, but give it a try - you might be pleasantly surprised at how many iconic songs there are and how good they still sound today). You're right about how fascinating it is to see transitions too - not just of hairstyles, but of fashions and general trends in musical presentation, dancing, etc.
The problem with not knowing the artists behind the music is of course that it makes it more difficult to find more music of a similar kind that you like.
Otherwise, I agree with most people here, the seventies (and sixties) were about musicians and music, not about image, production, technical aids and marketing. Most of the artists on this list wrote their own music and were talented (or great) instrumentalists and singers.
Today, chart music is mostly about big labels with massive marketing resources and streamlined factory-produced muzak where a lack of talent is easily hidden behind technical aids such as auto-tune etc.
"In The Summer Time got banged in the Uk due to the line the lyrics 'have a drink - have a drive' ...
It was also used in Don’t drink drive adverts at one stage, very appropriate 😏
❤😢 I love that song... Just didn't like the price of the record... _Nine_ _shillings_ & sixpence, when most singles were around _six_ _shillings_ & sixpence back then of my pocket money! (the year before we went decimal!!)
Agreed, "Annie's Song" by John Denver is just beautiful.
I would put the Beatles just ahead of the Stones because of the sheer volume of great songs & the way the Beatles experimented & changed music forever. With the help of the Great Sir George Martin (whose background was in classical music). But I absolutely love the Stones. But John Lennon was so talented. A true great. I personally don't have a favourite band. Far too many fantastic bands. It all depends on what mood you're in, while listening to music.
you had a blast with this Connor,it was indeed a great time for music, real talent,no auto tune crap,so glad you liked Donna Summer, loved her since i was 13,i turn 60 in March,do more music reactions, great to see you have fun.
Here Comes the Sun was by The Beatles not Simon and Garfunkel
This is my childhood :) (born in 1971). Love it! PS Cher was around long before 1971. Check out Sonny & Cher "I Got You Babe".
Before you say the Beatles are overrated try stuff like Helter Skelter, A Day In the Life, and Tomorrow never Knows. The Beatles were the creators of many of the modern day genres. In fact, listen to the whole of the white album and see just how many genres they perform with total ease and then tell me they are overrated.
It seems Gen Z have a very narrow corridor of “music” they listen to,whereas we in the 70’s would play a whole album all the way through and have a very eclectic library of music.
I was forced to listen to the top 10 the other day and it was awful in the extreme.
No variety,no creativity,all computerised gimmicks.
Bob Seger got it spot on,todays music ain’t got no soul.
Yeah the same with Queen and ABBA. They experimentet with everything, no producer just going "the safe route" all the time.
Connor: when you understand why the Beatles made such an impact on the music scene, then you may comment on them being over/under rated. Not before.
Conner finds two taps baffling.
And he's also entitled to his opinion 👍
@@Diseased_Mr_T and he articulated his opinion and I, likewise.
@@stirlingmoss4621 No. He articulated his opinion, and you declared his opinion invalid. That's not the same thing.
@@Diseased_Mr_T 'Invalid' is not in my Comments. I said, implicitly, that his opinion was un-formed due to a lack of experience of the music.
Correct - the 70's was the disco era. Great to see you boogie along! And yes, that was Paul McCartney on a couple of clips. He had a successful run with his band 'Wings' after the Beatles' split. I agree that the 70's & 80's felt more care free - but perhaps it was because I was younger then.
I'm glad to see someone else who loves John Denver as someone who grew up with his music
0:30 "Bridge over troubled water" is one of Simon & Garfunkel's most famous songs. "Here comes the sun is The Beatles. And even if you don't like their music - The Beatles are not overrated. ☺
1:58 Yup.
2:43 In my opinion Beatles are better.
3:21 Cher's biggest hit was with Sonny & Cher "I got you babe". She's a really cool cat and done some good acting as well.
4:43 You should listen to the live version of this. It's great! 😄
5:27 This is one of my fav songs ever. So emotional but with a "happy" tune.
6:53 Pretty much the same here. But a sad song.
12:56 Andy Gibb was the younger brother of Maurice, Robin and Barry who was The Bee Gees.
14:09 Yes. Bee Gees and ABBA were really big in this era.
14:45 "Grease" was written by the Bee Gees... They were amazing.
Definitely react to more of these. Good stuff.
10:53 That IS Paul.
George Harrison was the first Beatle to have a No.1 single in the UK after their split. Not that he saw much from it, as he was taken to court for plagiarism ('My Sweet Lord' was ruled essentially the same melody as 'He's so fine' by 1960s girl group The Chiffons).
Stones better than the Beatles ?
Not by a long shot.
the Beatles were over rated? you must be kidding, they are the most influential band in music history.
they took a lot off others too though
I always laugh when people say "Beatles were overrated". They're still getting new fans today, still listened to and beloved by millions and their latest single went straight to No.1(not bad for a group that formed 63 years ago). The word "overrated" is meaningless anyway, as it's based on subjective opinion.
This bloke only seem to like the yanks, British music the best.. yes the Beatles were all solo artists,
Morrison? Harrison you mean, Cher has been singing since the 60s with her then husband Sonny..
@@chuckshc376 very early on they did,but from 1963/4 onwards their music was essentially their own.
I knew /recognised more songs than I expected and I really love some of them 😀🤩
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Gawdy I feel old now😜 Good stuff
Still the best Reaction Channel on YT...
I would be interested to see you react to this list with the flags of the bands next to them....I think you would be surprised there are a lot of Euro bands in there
I think 1976 is mostly euro bands...
Cher was doing music back in the 60s as part of the duo Sonny and Cher
She was about 60 then 😂😂
This is the first video I've watched today, and it's put me in such a good mood! Thanks! 👍👍

Good song,
McJibbin 2024.
Totally the sound track to my childhood/early teens. I could sing along to 99% of those 😊
Was a teenager in 70 I had a lot of these records as was back then lol
There are a few artists missed here eg The Eagles, T Rex, Boz Scaggs, Mud, Joe Jackson, Steely Dan, Squeeze, Pink Floyd, The Who. It was funny seeing Rupert Holmes looking like an accountant doing Karaoke at the firm’s annual Christmas Party though.
They weren't missed, they just didn't have the most popular song in any given month during the 1970s.
Pink Floyd was very much an album band and hardly released any singles but perhaps Another Brick in the Wall Part 2 might feature at the very start of a similar video about the most popular songs of the 1980s? I seem to recall it was a Christmas No. 1 in the UK in 1979 and topped the charts for several weeks so it might have been the best selling song in January 1980.
Slade a notable exception . They seem to have missed out quite a few TOTP. chart regulars , not that Most of these aren't great .
If you read the description on the original video the compiler says it’s not songs in the US or UK it’s from all over, they didn’t want to repeat any songs and admits it’s 100% accurate
The Eagles were there, singing Hotel California.
Very impressed with how many songs you know, I remember '73 onwards well, although I was only 5 then I had a brother and sister 7 and 5 yrs older than me and the charts were played constantly in our house
Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep.... was playing as I kissed my first girl on the dance floor.....and i was in luuuve.... I was 11 ... good times..... No loyalty in music..... best description ever.... there with you.....
So, first you confuse the Beatles with Simon and Garfunkel and then you list “Morrison” as a Beatle when he was lead singer for the Doors……..
Really enjoyed that … thank you , loved your reactions 👍
Brits laughing at Cliff Richard turning up at the end. A controversial figure in some respects, he's had No.1 singles here in every decade from the 1950s to the 2000's. I'm not sure if that indicates success or a cult....
Cher has had #1 songs in the past 7 decades.
You are only hearing small clips of these songs so have to hear them in full
Andy Gibb was the youngest brother of the guys in the Bee Gees, he unfortunately died of a drug overdose.
David Soul was an actor who was most famous from thr show Starsky&Hutch.
😢 Andy Gibb did _not_ die of a drug overdose... He died from myocarditis... (admittedly following time with drug & alcohol addiction)... He died about a week or two after his 30th birthday... Andy's autopsy / post mortem showed no traces of drugs in his system at the time of his sad, and unexpected demise.😢
These were high school years and pre-marriage (nightclubbing) days for me so remember them all well ❤️😊 The song you sang at the beginning was "Here Comes The Sun" by the Beatles.
120 songs with several artists repeated....and two have passed away already in 2024: Melanie ("Brand New Key") and David Soul ("Don't Give Up On Us").
Staying Alive has to be the biggest of this decade
The 1970s was an amazing decade to live through, Connor. Though just a small child at the start, and a decidedly troubled school-leaver at the end, who never had the confidence to be part of the in-crowd at school and therefore enjoy all the big hits at the time; I certainly remember and feel that I know all of these songs - and many more that never made it to the number one spot! I well remember Eve Graham and the New Seekers, teaching the world to sing and then telling us that Coke was the real thing, Roy Wood wishing it could be Christmas everyday; the newly-appointed Queen Sonja of Sweden hiotting the headlines as the real Dancing Queen, at her wedding ball; and the compromise that allowed girls to wear dark trousers instead of skirts at school, providing they wore their school ties (all of which followed-on from Bay City Roller-mania, that made tartan fashionable again); and doing the3 Slosh at the school disco!! It was a decade of industrial unrest, power cuts, poverty, strikes, shortages, and massive unemployment - and yet, the very best music emerges in those times and it is memorable in ways that no other compares with. It was when this racist and sexist nation began looking at itself differently - though that would be a much longer process that anyone imagined, and if you look at those musicians now, you'll see the beginnings of today's gender politics emerging for the first time too. It should have been the springboard to modern Britain and would have been - had it not been for what followed. But that's another decade, and another story!
Don't know who put this list together. There's no Bowie, Slade or T.Rex, and barely any Queen or Sweet.
Many of those songs were the background sound track to my childhood. Music was just better and had more variety back then.
Elton John's, "Daniel" is a beautiful song, when I had my son, (he's 33yrs old now!) My mum picked Daniel as his middle name, she loves that song😁
Connor please dont go for that hair 😂
Now I have to watch 80s and 90s too
Thanks - I love 70's music!
'My ding-a-ling' was my first favourite song. i was about three years old, and would be scooting up and down the street singing it loudly.
Let that image into your mind.
