Yes! Well done! Gives us beginners the info and good products to buy! Just need to know what is the best crack sealer and what about an indentation, not a pothole.
Just resealed my Asphalt Driveway with the Henry 4 Year Product, but followed all recommendations from this Video. A few points I would highlight for best results: Definitely fill cracks/pot holes as instructed in video, and be sure to clean as instructed. I would highly recommend flipping the buckets as he mentioned, but *also* would Highly Recommend using a corded Power Drill with a Stirring Bit. Even with a Drill, the "top sludge" does not move for a minute under stirring. After about a minute, you see the solid and liquid finally mix. I mixed shy of 5 minutes after seeing a good vortex for 30+ seconds and the color looking uniform. We did follow his method of combining buckets and that helped with keeping the color consistent. I would also recommend "pulling" in the same direction for the duration of the project. If you move the material in multiple directions, it will show (it's minimally noticeable). Thanks for the advice!
Thank you for the video. I'm going to be a first time home owner soon, and this will be very helpful for the blacktop driveway which is in need of some crack filling and new sealer.
Some excellent points here. I used the bulk version and pick it up using 55 gallon drums - this version comes concentrated so you mix water with it to obtain the correct consistency to brush it onto the asphalt.
I used to do this for a summer job! I got really fast at it. With a buddy, we would do 12 driveways a day. Pro tip: carry a spray bottle on a holster and you can spray away any unwanted splashes on the house.
I had a landscape business and did hundreds of driveways all by hand. I found these cheap combo brushes with a squeegee useless and the finished product looks amateur. I went to an industrial supply store and bought a nice squeegee for doing windows and only used that to apply the rubberized sealer. Do it just like you did with the brush, but only use the squeegee to it rides flat and leaves additional sealer in the little dips and holes and thinner where the asphalt is smooth. The nice soft rubber squeegee left an excellent finish with no brush marks or overlaps.
I should add when it's hot, it always worked best to lightly wet down the driveway ahead of sealing with water based sealer. Oil based sealer is not recommended at all. Do not wet down the driveway ahead of time and expect it to be slippery when it rains and snows. Oil based sealer is shiny and once applied, you can only use oil based, you can't ever use water based afterward because it will not adhere. Also, when your driveway is steep or you want extra traction for the winter, you can add clean sand to the mix. It works really well and can add tremendous safety especially when walking on the driveway to get the mail etc. Also, many times the blacktoppers told the homeowners to wait a year before applying sealer, but you can apply sealer to new blacktop as soon as water stops beading up on it. It's best to seal it before the first winter if you can. Regardless of what the can states, two coats are always best for a nice smooth finish and to allow the sealer to fill smaller cracks to keep water out. Water will get into the cracks, then freeze and make a mess out of your asphalt.
Can't remember last time I seen those converse shoes but it had to be pre-1995. I appreciate the instruction however decided to go stained concrete and over the top of that with 10+ coats of non-yellowing sealer. It just seems to show more depth and last longer in the Minnesota winters. Next I may underlay with wood-grain panels and apply sealer coats for a more unique affect. Great inspirational video.

look at that old milwaukee drill i still have mine since about 1986 or so looks like ill be on this stuff for a while looking at 25 buckets to lay out ,maybe i should set up the airless graco mark 5 and have at it
Water based is the way to go. Especially if you have pets, children, allergies, or care about your neighbors.. Many jurisdictions only allow water based. Most interior and exterior paints are now latex/water based.
The two coat recommendations is to fill in the pours and crevices. It's not meaning to actually go over it twice. What I do is push ahead a pile back and forth. Then I pull what I call the finish pass.
Get buckets with same batch code for color match. Use squeegee to spread them 1.25" nap roller to even out and pull excess down as you go....if you have a rough textured asphalt. If not be prepared to use at least double the product. Keep driveway misted wet as you got...helps spread and prevents dry edge. Mix for 5 mins...if using a stick or that small mixer bit maybe. Get a proper grout mixer and mix about 30 seconds.
RULE No. 1: NEVER apply driveway sealer wearing anything OTHER than your cleanest, newest white sneakers. Absolute must. RULE No. 2: NEVER edge your driveway BEFORE applying sealer.

Concrete > Asphalt. Initial investment is more costly but you'll save throughout the extreme life of concrete without really having to do anything at all except just enjoy it. Also Asphalt is soft and things will sink if they are left to sit in one spot for too long. Last August I was at a commercial building in the morning who had just resurfaced the parking lot, perhaps the day before. It was a really hot and sunny day, and the asphalt was literally sticking to my tires. Turning into parking spaces left shallow ruts. Not sure why they didn't block off the parking lot or pick a weekend to do it. Not smart, I'm guessing that they had to return and re-do the entire lot.

Hi, you can try Oil Dry, it is a clay based dry product you grind into the asphalt to absorb oil. Most other products are going to be a liquid you would brush in and then hose off. There are a few you can pick up at the hardware store. The driveway doesn't have to be dry for most coatings, so just clean the area, hose it down and use a broom to get off excess water. We have more tips in our home improvement book www.amazon.com/dp/B01BK2K0JM?ref_=pe_2427780_160035660
I know you already explained in a previous comment about using a broom but every other asphalt driveway resealing video shows someone using a squeegee. Is there a reason no one else uses a broom like you did in this vid? It does seem like the broom would be better to work the stuff into cracks.
Goog Elle Hi, I spoke to the reps at Henry and for this product they say to use the broom side. This product is not as fluid as some I've used, so that could be the reason. It turned out nice. We also have a weekly podcast, here is a link www.stitcher.com/s?fid=49441&refid=stpr
Hi, it holds up well. Recoating depends on the warranty. Many companies recommend recoating after about 1/2 the length of the warranty. So for a 7 year warranty, you would recoat after about 4 years depending on how much use the driveway gets and wear from your climate. Will apply your tips on 5/14/20 when i do my driveway...)
Great video. Thank you for posting it. I've got to go home to VA in a couple weeks and resurface the driveway of our rental property, so this video really helped. Quick question, if I may. I watched another video where the person resurfacing the driveway used a squeegee and worked the stuff from side to side. Does it make much of a difference which method I use (i.e., yours or his)? Thanks!
+CaesarInVa Hi, for this product, the company wants the brush to be used. Each formula is a little different, so take a look at their application recommendations.

Hi I recently sealed a driveway with bitumen emulsion and the customer has come back that after two weeks it is still sticky and tacky
Can you please advise the most suitable method to remove excess bitumen so it can dry out / cure completely ?
Thanks in advance
Va a hacer ese trabajo con zapatillas blancas 😮
good video. what would use to clean out the buckets afterwards so I can use them for something else?
Hi, it depends on the chemical makeup. Many can be cleaned with soap and water while wet. You will need solvents for some. It will suggest how to clean up on the label. The citrus based cleaners do a nice job.

Thanks
It would have been a better video if you had shown the finished product at the end... two days later to see how it looks after it has cured.
Will look good with just about any product cuz basically ur doing a painting like project. …A better question is how does it look after 3 years. I find myself redoing this every 2-3 years. Which I find is getting expensive and time consuming
Nice shoes,are those white Reeboks?
Shred Sixsixsix Ha, I don't remember. They are waterproof now. Check out our weekly podcast www.stitcher.com/s?fid=49441&refid=stpr
FIX IT Home Improvement Channel It works better if you put 2 cheap plastic bags over your shoes. Wearing a $20.00 disposable painting suit and rubber will keep you and your clothes cleaner.
Great tips. Thanks.
No, they are black Reeboks now!
White shoes, good choice
Very nice, you made it look so easy!👏👏
Hi, here is another type of sealer. ua-cam.com/video/PXW335vZMdc/v-deo.html
Are the white shoes required? ;-)
The video was great....how did you not get splashes on your white shoes?
Good video. Your pothole repair one was good also.
Thank you.

Hi, this was at a friends home.
Here is another project we did with a different product. ua-cam.com/video/PXW335vZMdc/v-deo.html
Nice video, Whats the brand name and how many did you use and how much a 5 gal and where did you buy it?
Danny Diet Hi, this is the Henry Asphalt Resurfacer 7 year. You can pick it up at Home Depot or Walmart. It took 1 1/2 five gallon tubs. Fill all your cracks and let them cure first.

its really nice and thank you. but there is some mistakes you auready did. witch was the way you push foward toward your wall. witch is not good. for that because you will get the seal onto your wall paint. another is that, i could see the lines at they end where you stop at and left it there. you dont want those bumps on your driveway. but its nice though. thank you for sharing your video as well. um a seal coated myslelf. and also work for "Black Diamond Asphalt LLC" here in Spokane WA.
looks like you've been sniffing asphalt a little too long
PRO tip, make sure you wear the whitest shoes you own.
Alot of good tips here.
Where do you find cheap sealent?
Good job and tutorial!!
Glad it was helpful.
Here is another video we did. ua-cam.com/video/PXW335vZMdc/v-deo.html
Would add wire brush scrubbing @2:52. Too much dirt in the voids will cause the seal to fail. Seems like the detergent water only does so much.
Thanks for the tip.
This guy is a Henry Salesman.

how many buckets did your driveway use? I have a really big driveway, just want to get an idea how many buckets I should buy.
At 0:27, it looks like he had 3 buckets initially. And then at 6:08, it looks like he didn't use more than 2.

What's the best way to get out grease stains first, and in a manner that would not require having to wait too long before being able to apply sealer, etc. Thanks.

Great video however for some reason I don’t like dark color on drive ways.
Wow perfect job👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks. Check out this video with another type of sealer.

Dave strand is better for sealing drive ways or Stanley dirt munky
How well does the henry work and how long does it last
Hi, it holds up well. Recoating depends on the warranty. Many companies recommend recoating after about 1/2 the length of the warranty. So for a 7 year warranty, you would recoat after about 4 years depending on how much use the driveway gets and wear from your climate.

Thanks I'll do it on my driveway
I’ve hear others say you need to only pull and not push with the squeegee.
Hi, this is what the manufacturer recommended when I tool some training from them. Some suggest using a brush, some products require a squeegee. Follow the application instructions for the product formulation you are using for the best results.
