I am about to have 30 plus year old, extensively cracked driveway paved with 2 inches of asphalt and compacted to 1 1/2 ". There are no holes. Just almost total cris crossed cracks. Paving companies say it needs to be removed and rebuilt totally from dirt thru new compacted rock then new asphalt. It is difficult for me to accept all of that since, though covered like a jigsaw puzzle in extensive cracking, since pieces are locked in tightly and not coming out, and not leaving holes, I can't see why new compacted high quality paving won't create a new, long-term asphalt driveway.

Wow the work involves a lot of time but it truly looks wonderful. I wonder what the cost difference would be to just have a layer of new asphalt? I have the same problem and the same size driveway. I’m sure the resurfacing 5 gallon buckets aren’t cheap. If I’m saving a few thousand I will try this method for sure
That's exactly what I want to know I can guarantee you the only save a couple hundred dollars compared to a professional coming in and doing a better quality job this video was nonsense
Really enjoy Ron's videos, but this looks more like a good reason not to seal your asphalt in the first place. I had my 400' farm track of a driveway asphalted 9 years ago after some flooding washed out part of it. Never sealed it and the surface is nearly as perfect as the day it was done. It's weathered to a nice gray and the aggregate has become more pronounced (which means better traction), but it's holding up extremely well through 9 Upstate NY Winters, numerous trips of various service vehicles (FedEx, UPS, the septic guys, the propane guys, even a full-sized dump truck full of top soil). I've had to fill one opening about 2"x8" which looks like a void underneath formed, probably due to an animal burrowing. Filled that in with some patch. Other than that, it's close to flawless and one of the best investments I've made in my property. I'm of a mind to think the whole sealing thing is a bit of a scam.
Wow..... that is one beautiful drive ! It's never occurred to me to put a kind of new coating on top of the existing old drive. I had always wanted to dug up the old one entirely and re-do. Which is a mega big job.
Yeah wait to this driveway dries you'll see all the imperfections he never said anything about how long it would take you the cost of materials and notice how clean he is this video is nonsense but then again you're brain-dead to just like the other humanoids that believe this nonsense
John Syrmis If you found out, let me know. My driveway is about that size and I need to do the same. I have quite a few potholes though so I'll have a lot more prep work to do. Also, how well does it hold up? I live in Indianapolis where the weather is horrible in the winter.
There's a simple graph on the side of the buckets of sealant that recommend how many 5 gallon buckets based on square footage. Measure your driveway LxW and you'll get your sq. footage. My driveway is 780 ft. long x 10ft. long for 7800 sq. ft. The product I'm going to use (item #808010 at Costco) says 1 bucket covers 250-350 sq. ft. I'm assuming that depends on how many coats you want to put on. Likely if you want a more perfected driveway you're going to do at least 2 coats. But either way, divide 7800 by 250 and you'll get that at the very least I need approximately 31 buckets. They're $19.99 each - so my minimal cost will be $620. I'd say that the sq. footage estimate on the bucket is likely the same no matter the actual product brand you choose to use.
Rwt2777 you are spot on with your information but there's a difference in grades and also how far they will stretch and if you get a paint roller a large one I think they have a 18 inch available and then with some down pressure and pulling you tend to get an extra 50 to 100 sq ft if its latex you get a lil extra if its filler seal not so much lol and yup that flat blade squeegee is awesome for that job but he can't really put down pressure and drag any extra away that gator skin gear is what I wanna see dry and a year later
I would love to be able to renew my drive way, and surrounding side walk, and front patio. Questions: is it possible add a color to surface? Can I add a design to the top layer? What would you do differently? Thank you kindly. 🎀
So I'm getting ready to do this...with the filler used on the large weathered areas work for these 2-3 inch deep depressions in the driveway from the cars wheels resting? Or will I need something else?
You might, but with a curious mind like yours maybe consider mechanical engineering if you can do the math.
I'm of a mind to think the whole sealing thing is a bit of a scam.
yeah, a follow up video would be great..how else are we supposed to know if its worth it.
Its not.
This was so satisfying. 😯 Your friend was awesome for helping. 🙌
Holy crap that looks amazing!
Wow what a great presentation
Ayyyy
😂😂😂
I never got much help from any of these guys.
Wow..... that is one beautiful drive !
Great job sr, I want to finish my driveway the same way, thanks for the tips. 👍👍👍
That drive way looks fresh at the end
really good video how many gallons did it take to achieve this great job and at what cost ?
John Syrmis If you found out, let me know. My driveway is about that size and I need to do the same. I have quite a few potholes though so I'll have a lot more prep work to do. Also, how well does it hold up? I live in Indianapolis where the weather is horrible in the winter.
My driveway is 2 cars wide, and about 40ft long. I’ve always ended up using 3 pails of sealer.
2 gallons
Rwt2777 you are spot on with your information but there's a difference in grades and also how far they will stretch and if you get a paint roller a large one I think they have a 18 inch available and then with some down pressure and pulling you tend to get an extra 50 to 100 sq ft if its latex you get a lil extra if its filler seal not so much lol and yup that flat blade squeegee is awesome for that job but he can't really put down pressure and drag any extra away that gator skin gear is what I wanna see dry and a year later
My back and knees hurt just from watching this video....lol...I think I’ll take a nap and call the pro’s in on this one. I know my limits.
Beautiful job! Thank you for sharing this!
what a chancer he must have had at least 10 travellers behind the scene doing the dirty work
She did the heavy messy hard part lol!
I would love to be able to renew my drive way, and surrounding side walk, and front patio. Questions: is it possible add a color to surface? Can I add a design to the top layer? What would you do differently? Thank you kindly. 🎀
"Why is that guy putting chocolate all over his driveway?"
Lmfao just about to put the same comment!!
Funny! We were joking about the "brownie batter."
He was smearing dog shit.
Archean you mean dog turd
You guys are full of it, it's reserfecing material, Dum mdfs
So I'm getting ready to do this...with the filler used on the large weathered areas work for these 2-3 inch deep depressions in the driveway from the cars wheels resting? Or will I need something else?
Best video I've seen... All questioned answered! Thank you
I miss videos like this.. It makes me think about school videos.
I'm 11 I guess I will be a handy man if I'm watching this for fun
Jose J Hinojosa yes Jose you will most likely be a handyman
are you a handy man still??
You will save a fortune, and I really mean that, once you get that house if you learn all this stuff
You might, but with a curious mind like yours maybe consider mechanical engineering if you can do the math. (Not many people LIKE middle school math, but the math gets more fun later on, and is a tool to use to become an engineer). Either way, learn all you can about things like this. Very good of you to be curious about things like this.
Just dont start smokin weed bud lol
You make this look effortless! Heck, your pants didn't even get dirty! lol
I wish i could do this kinda stuff.
2:15 Couldn't all those steps have been skipped if you were using a pressure washer?
This dood keeps those Khakis super crispy!
Amazing!!!!!
This was excellent. Thank you.
Wow! Great Job! Now come do my driveway please!
Did quarantine bring anyone else here?? Seriously debating doing this 😅
Yes and we're doing this.
Cleanest man in driveway sealing ever.
Great job and demonstration!
thanks you for sharing your knowledge how to fix the drive way
Amazing how he keeps his trousers clean
Right was thinking the same thing he used a blower power washer then two types of liquid tar
After watching this, I am calling somebody to come and do it..... looked too easy.
3:32 That chocolate icing looks SO good! 😋 I didn’t know it could be used for crack filler too! 🤣🤣🤣
Great job , the whole time I was worried about your pants getting destroyed .
After you fill the cracks, how long do you wait to pave over it with the broom
I would have been more impressed if he was wearing a rented tuxedo..
A white one?
This video is oddly satisfying. I think anyone with OCD and a streak of perfectionism would consider doing that work to be therapeutic.
You did a good job, man!
Omg I thought I have to do a new driveway , Thank you gì your video , so easy fix 👍
Where can we purchase Dupont products?????
Ya im here to find out the same since my bullshit Latex Ite Trowel Patch Shallow Repair junk chips off after a year...
@@BWeezy-sw1wy Make sure you're using sealer over top. If it's chipping off, it didn't seal, so either you need it cleaned better or to use primer.
All that and homeboy didn't even get his shoes dirty. Props!
Dude. You just friggin rock...THANK YOU!
Best video on UA-cam on this thanks
Very helpful...too many videos put too much thought into it. Ron's the man!
Quite relaxing watching you do that.Great skill .
Smart Man! let the woman lug those 60 lb containers. I tried that w/ my wife but..... she no like! Dam, I hate when that happens.
I hope she doesn’t try to get out of changing the tires
Some women don't mind hard work.
