vaccuum, then isopropyl, turpentine or something similar, spray or soak it in, pressure wash from the engine facing side of the filter to the intake facing side. then soak in water. all the bugs came out of my one. fyi, this does take the charcoal coating out of it, so should be a stop gap till you get a new filter. If you are paranoid, just clean the intake facing side.
I would definitely not use a power washer you do not want too much high pressure it will actually blow the cotton out and will not filter as good a good Dawn soap something that Foams a lot the foam is the key for pushing out the dirt any kind of cleaner you use just make sure they are not too strong and will not eat the fabric or cotton .
I usually clean a filter two to three x max then throw it away. Just try to be as gentle as you can with the cleaning that's why I say the soap suds are the best with some nice warm water but not too hot you do not want to shrink the fabric or make it brittle with two hot water
Wouldn't this be like, cleaning your mask with water and then letting it dry for reusing?, The filtration properties might be long gone that way right?
No sorry your filter is not like your mask?. The materials are much different on an air filter. If you use some dish soap or some air cleaner soap K&N Carrie's one. Don't use a power washer to clean it or you won't have any material left just use some warm water under the tap to clean it and most importantly let it dry on the counter do not reinstall it and let it dry in your air box it will take a long time for it to dry and your car could suck in some of the water and we'll set off a sensor
And I've never cleaned a disposable mask so I wouldn't know but good to know. And when you wash a K&N air filter that actually happens you wash away the filter material that's why I can answer not good for your car they will let small Micron dirt through right from the factory this is why I only use dry performance filters any filter that uses oil let's microns of dirt through
Well, ya it was just a not so related example, I haven't tried cleaning these oem replaceable filters because they are not supposed to be wet but I guess it's not that bad... If I had to do it I would first blow the superficial dirt away with canned air or vacuum with those attachments you use to vacuum a keyboard, small gaps, then maybe if it's still very dirty I can use the soapy water rinse it and let it dry... But what I'm not sure if the paper on the filter would hold alright even just buy wetting it
@@mariobajac yeah I'm not so sure about those kn filters, it seems good for performance, 1 or 2 hp more, but is it good at filtering particles and so on as the oem?, Not so sure.
Yeah one thing I left out wouldn't be sticking any air compressors or any computer board cleaner to push the dirt farther inside the material you would want some nice bubbly soap so the bubbles from the soap lift the dirt and then you can wash it away with some warm water not hot water and yeah your filter is meant to get wet as your car takes moisture if it's raining outside. So yeah it's safe to clean the filter just don't blast any water and don't dry it with hot air just let it dry on its own. But I would only clean the filter once maybe twice I've never cleaned it more than twice.
There are directions how to clean an air filter on the back of the K&N air filter cleaner but if you're not using air filter cleaner you can just go ahead and use some Dawn soap and run it under some cool water. But don't hit it with hard water like a pressure washer or something like that the filters are cotton and you can blow out the material. I hope this helps.
Hey there grab yourself some filter cleaner from K&N and actually what I did was I added some Dawn soap to the cleaner in a separate spray bottle will probably be 25% Dawn soap and the rest K&N cleaner the reason being is you want as much foam from the soap as you can because the phone will help push the dirt out the middle of the filter same exact idea to clean your radiator or your air conditioner but yeah you want as much soap suds as you can and don't use hot water you can use warm water but just make sure it's not too hot it's not good for the filter it might make it shrink and if it shrinks it could rip cheers hope this information Works actually I know it does work just make sure the filter is dry before you put it back in your car
@@KenziBabenzi this may not be a good idea if you have a filter that has paper around it your filter in your house may not be the same as a car filter car filter has a rubber gasket around it a house filter usually has a paper gasket around it which we all know does not go well with water so just tap it on the ground and get a blow dryer and blow it with some hair or if you have an air compressor use that but don't use it to close he will literally blow a hole right through the filter making the filter useless
sorry guys one thing I left out the one on the left is dirty I just took it out and the one on the right I just cleaned and it works great

my bad should be low pressure wash, eg hose. couldn't see the instructions you posted because they are in a reply.

Just stick to vacuuming and high purity isopropanol. Water is not a good idea
