- What’s in my minimalist carry on bag? Today, I’m sharing the travel essentials I pack for flights (or car trips). I love the balance I’ve found of having the necessities with me while not carrying too much while I’m traveling. ✈️

I love to crochet and knit. So I always bring my current project I am working on, along with pattern, yarn, knitting needles or hook, and other tools. I put everything in a small separate bag that will fit in my backpack. But be careful of your scissors, they can only be 4 inches on the blade part.
The circulated air on planes really dries me out so I always bring a small hand cream or balm, a good facial moisturizer (longer flights I wear an overnight cream mask lol) and eyedrops are a must in my carry-on.

That’s good advice to bring what you’re going to use. I used to bring books, crossword puzzle books, journals, a switch or DSi, and tons of other things I intended to use (but often never did). It’s so nice now to just bring the things I know I’m going to use. Ive found that I also don’t find the need to constantly be doing something. I’ll bring something to do in case I feel bored, but ive also learned that it’s okay to just relax and be okay with not going anything. Also love how open you are with brining your medication, gotta take care of yourself 💗

Noise canceling headphones, iPad (movies, books), phone (audiobooks, music), snacks and some kind of scarf are some essentials for me…
I used to travel with all my charging cords in a zippered pouch- style bag and I kept getting stopped at airports and having my carry-on searched. I finally had the courage to ask one of the security guards what it was that kept twigging them to search me, and he was kind enough to point out my bag of charging cords. He said that because they were all jumbled up in a single bag they had no way of knowing what they were and that they looked somewhat suspicious. So I purchased, on Amazon, a zippered “cord case” where each one is separately and neatly held in by an elastic and I have never been stopped since. It’s now one of my travel essentials!
That’s a great book! I pack a complete outfit including underwear and socks and sometimes PJs in a medium size compression cube in my backpack. Of course my liquids bag goes into my personal item backpack. Did you know that you can freeze some water in your water bottle and as long as you drink off any melted water just prior to going through security, it is allowed to go through? I confirmed that with the lady at security on my last flight. Then when you fill the bottle before boarding, the water will stay cold on the flight. My Contigo water bottle maintains ice for 12+ hours.

What I bring with my Nomad Lane Bento bag include my macbook, headphones, passport, DLSR, and phone and some clothes. Can fit at least 3-4 days of clothes inside the bag. I love it!
I also take a small pouch with very little makeup, hand sanitizer, several masks so I’m not using the same one all the time, my iPad and a pouch for chargers, cords, earbuds, cell phone, socks to put on when I want to take my shoes off in the plane, small pack of sanitizer wipes, a pen, small crossbody, tiny wallet, passport & case when going overseas and if I check a bag I’ll pack an extra set of undies and top in case my bag gets lost. I love to read on planes too so usually will pick up a few magazines that I normally don’t read at home...or I’ll watch downloaded UA-cam videos or edit photos if I can’t sleep. Have fun in Boston! I’m headed from CA to VA and NC in 2 weeks!
Yes! Compartmentalising is key. I also try to keep my electronics in one place, it helps sooo sooo much.
Oh, and I always use a little pouch or bag to contain the things I dont need during the flight/until I’ve arrived and I try to fit it at the bottom of the bag so it’s sorta out of sight. It’s usually some clothes and stuff like that.

Re. books while traveling: I much prefer paper books, but on a trip, the Kindle app on my phone is great. It weighs very little, and when I finish those last few pages, I can easily read the next one on my list.

Good list, for myself I would add: hand sanitizer, tissues, a pen, a small notebook, keys, phone, and phone charger, external battery phone charger too.

This is a great list! My only additions (I appreciate that you brought up that if you're not normally a reader, you need to pick out items that work for you) are a couple of baggies with wet wipes, an extra pair of underwear (that came in handy in a long layover) and my toothbrush. I'm adding your eye mask to my list!

Your lovely backpack reminds me of my smaller Samsonite backpack I use as a handbag. I can't use regular handbags anymore because I get shoulder, neck and back ache. Realising I prefer comfort over fashion, I love my backpack! Had to buy my new one this summer because I had two and they both broke. Almost at the same time lol! One was I a anti-theft that I've used a lot. Another one was a regular one that I bought in 1990. That one broke my heart when I had to literally throw it away. Love your videos!👍👍👍🌻🧡
Glad makes a quart size ziplock that actually stretches! Used that for my liquids bag on my last domestic flight and it wasn’t questioned at all going through security.
Love my Klean Kanteen water bottle; I've had it for quite a while! I loved using my expandable backpack from eBags on a few 4-5-day-trips this summer - so easy to store everything I needed, without needing a second bag (other than my purse)! It's about the size of a carry-on rolling suitcase, and there's so many pockets! Love traveling light!

Hi. Great list. Thanks for the tips 😊 I almost always bring a scarf with me. I get cold a lot, especially on longer flights. But even if I don’t need it for that purpose I will just use it as a pillow or something to sit on, if for example in a cafe the chair is really cold.

As a person who has had her luggage lost, I also include anything I would need for up to 24 hours after landing.

Yes! I usually bring a carry on suitcase for clothes whenever I’ll be gone for more than a few days 🤍
I'm very minimal in my carry on. But I have to bring my 2 1/2 foot yarn clown I can't sleep with out. He's 43 years old and I don't care lol
