- This walk takes in the four westerly Munros in the Cairngorms. Starting from Achaean in Glen Feshie the route starts with Mullach Clach a' Bhlair, Monadh Mor, Beinn Bhrotain and Sgor Gaoith. A superb 40km day walking across the high plateau in settled weather.

Really helpful video: your map at the start then all the filming plus me sitting in front of my OS explorer has shown me a must on my next trip over from Ireland. Phenomenal high plateau.

Long ago I walked all over the Cairngorms but one part which I never managed was the 'Great Moss' (Moine Mhor), great to watch you two marching all over it! I would love to have walked and scrambled up the Coire Garbhlach out of Glen Feshie maybe one one day you could make an expedition there?
Hi Ian, You forget just how high the plateau is once you get onto it, certainly different to anywhere else. Coire Garbhlach is an impressive way to approach this area although the paths either side make it easy to miss. Many thanks for watching. Cheers, Charlie
40k is a big day for sure !..I've done the Sgor Gaoith and Mullach Clach a Bhlair and remember the view from the top over the loch ...incredible!
Hi Mike, I agree the views from Sgor Gaoith are spectacular and it’s little wonder it attracts so many visitors. The Cairngorms are just different to anywhere else and a fine contrast to the craggy peaks. Cheers, Charlie

Who would have thought two old men walking up and down hills would be the best thing on youtube?! Another fantastic walk, an actual mountain marathon on the awesome Cairngorm plateau. I did Bhrotain and Monadh Mor from Feshie on a warm day and remember the walk back being interminable. Disappointed that Mike didn't stand on the Bhrotain trig point but back to normal on the Sgor Gaoith rocks.
Hi Norman, Mike’s slipping with these trig posts, I’ll remember and get on to him next time. The Cairngorm plateau is always an enjoyed experience when the weather is this good, you just don’t feel the height and the vastness of the place is stunning. Cheers, Charlie

Nice one Charlie and Mike yes morning low cloud always fear it's going to be poor walking but once again the weather gods were on your side I must say a massive days walking your fitness and stamina are up there I will have what you are taking, don't know this area of the caringorm mountains but say it looks awesome walking well done lads great video and commentary look forward to the next one 😀 👍 👏
Hi Philip, The Cairngorms just offer a different landscape to the norm. It’s a great time of year to wander at height and get to these awkward tops. Obviously, settled weather is a bonus and makes these bigger days possible. Cheers, Charlie

Hi Frank, I like it “Duracell Brothers” …. no bad for a couple of old farts…lol. It’s always great to get the four in the single visit and have the bonus of settled weather with clear tops. Do you think it’s quicker going via the shelter stone side of the loch or the other side to get up to Beinn Mheadhoin , would appreciate your opinion Charlie.
@@hikingwithfrank315 Frank, I haven’t been on the south side of Loch Avon only to the shelter stone. I’d be surprised if the path up from the shelter stone wasn’t well defined and will bring you up to Loch Etchachan quickly. The sides of Loch Avon are steep so you are better to get to either the west or east end to take the height. I would stay on the north side and go east to the end of the loch. Crossing the head of the loch won’t be an issue (nae rain) but the initial steepness soon lies back. Sun will be coming over your shoulder for the photos and wind in your face (maybe) for flying the drone. It’s 50/50 if you do the loop or return as ascent and make for Cairn Gorm via a good path from The Saddle at 807m. Hope you have a cracker. Cheers, Charlie

Hi Andy, The Cairngorms are certainly a bit of a contrast to the peaky crags but always and enjoyable experience when the weather is settled. We are in the travel light season so hopefully the good days will continue for a while yet. Cheers, Charlie

Great video and big day. Did MCaB and SG in late April with snow in the burn gullies as I discovered when I fell through a snow bridge up to my waist on the way to MCaB 😀 Pays to wear pure wool socks.

What do you guys eat when ur walking to keep your energy up. Wasnt sure if ur tucking into rice pudding or porridge. Another great watch...😃👍
Hi Debbie, We find sandwiches hard to eat so rice pudding loaded with fruit cake or chocolate bits work best for us. It gives you bulk and is easy to get over. Fruit pastels or Jelly Babies are also taken on the go just to keep things ticking along. Cheers, Charlie

another great video, many years ago I was taken in a Landrover to the top of Mullach Clach a' Bhlair to start an MR search. (I was a Dog handler) and often wondered if I can count it as a Munro for me? many thanks for sharing and keep them coming. ATB

Ah great stuff Charlie 40K that's some going even by the average walking up there 👍 Thanks for @3:40 onwards for the clearer outlook on the route as im thinking of bagging they two lumps this year :) Charlie see the peak Sgoran Dubh Mòr no far from Sgor Gaoith did it used to have Munro status? When i bagged Sgor Gaoith i got talking to a husband and wife older walker couple and i asked if they were heading over to the other Munro Mullach Clach a'Bhlair and they gave me a puzzled look and insisted that it wasnt a Munro but Sgoran Dubh Mòr was other Munro one. I hope i didnt spoil there Compleatist status lol!
Hi Peter, I can’t remember the Munro’s changing in this area and it’s always been SG and MCaB. Sgoran Dudh Mor has the height but it’s just to close and doesn’t have sufficient drop from Sgor Gaoith. I think your probably screwed the couples list…..lol. Cheers, Charlie

Hi Dave, It’s an enjoyable area when the weather is settled. You quickly forget your over 1000m when wandering on the plateau but certainly a different game if your caught in poor conditions and navigation skills are tested. Cheers, Charlie
