I used to live in Aberdeen and often went through Linn of Dee way into the gorms. Much shorter trip by comparison to the 13 hours to Sarek
Nice trip. Tried to complete this walk a few years ago but heavy rain stopped progress at Bynack Lodge. Did you see where the path had been completely erroded near Allt Garbhlach, Glen Feshie?
I assume it would have been those river crossings that thwarted your progess? Yeah the damage by mother nature in there is mental. I know someone who got stranded in the bothy there when the storm hit, couldn't cross the river with trees and massive boulders being swept down steam. They had to ascend the Munro, up onto the plateau and back down. 😲
@@WalkWithWallace Yeh even the stream next to Bynack Lodge wasn't safe to cross, never mind the Geldie. Was the new bothy finished? They were working on it when we were that way in October.

Finished this trail yesterday. Should have watched this video before as I was having the same confusions as you with some of the sketchy bits 😂 I was walking from Pitlochry to Aviemore so camped in other spots. I’m just curious was the Feshie bothy open? I almost walked right pass it as I was certain it’s someone’s private home that’s how immaculate it looked! But a lovely guy greeted me and turns out he was taking care of this bothy in his free time but I forgot to ask when It reopened to the public.
Great stuff Robin. Ive done this walk countless times. Judith used to drop me and the dog off at Forest lodge then drive up to her parents farm at Kingussie. I would camp at Bynack and meet her in Feshie before Sunday dinner made by her mum. Used to be a wee car park at forest lodge and I believe you can still drive up to there with permission and a good reason. I used to walk this walk without thinking but I’m not sure I could do it now. Makes me sad but too many things against me at the moment. Thank you for sharing the sights and sounds. It fair took me back. Very enjoyable.

Cracking outing that Robin 👏 I had to miss the recent Q&A but watched it back last night. One thing I wanted to ask is how did you get on with the katadyn over multi day use. Basically how much did the flow rate suffer & were you cleaning it when on the trail? TIA
The Katadyn flow rate is still going strong, haven't noticed a drop in performance yet. I always inspect the water before drinking, if I see bits floating around, I'll pour it out and try again. I always forget to wash it to be honest, but usually would rince it under the tap.

@@garyredspeedster1389 still got a bit to go on the bothy. Covid has slowed progess right down.
Nice 1 mate - very flat pitches hood for the z’s
Atb 👍🏽
Cheers Dave, the pitches were decent. 2x good night's sleep. 😁
Looks a good through route past lots of familiar places from the Munro round - must give it a go especially as return to BA should be easy on public transport 👍
Aye, just check the train times. They aren't great on the Sunday for getting home. Other option is planting a bike in Kingussie. 🤔
@@WalkWithWallace Bit of a haul over Drumochter with a pack for me after 3 days out 😉
@@gcsScotland ha true, I've not looked into the ascent of that cycle. 🤔
When did you do this Robin I wasn't expecting vlog like this to turn up, keep up the good work mate
Cheers Duncan, it was just before the CWT trip to test the tent, rucksack and my legs. 😁 But I was keen to get the CWT vids out first, I put this on the back burner.
Congrats on finishing the trail. 😁
Yes the Feshie Bothy has been open for awhile now. Its the other one that's still being refurbished at the moment.
amazing
Cheers Mohsin. 😁 👍🏻
It's a cracking walk mate, and wanted to camp at Bynack after seeing its isolated position from the Munros, then our Andy Hill camped there too. We managed to get permission a few years ago to get into the Tarf Hotel.
I was planning on doing this route this year, but pulling off towards the white bridge and down the Lairg Gruh.
I had another route up my sleeve too. Plenty options. Have you made a full recovery from the leg break now?
@@WalkWithWallace yep so many good routes. Leg is about 90% recovered, I took up kayaking just to keep fit. I will be back in the mountains for October and winter and fingers crossed will not have to be rescued this time. I see you are using a Spot what are they like as I am considering one especially after the accident.
@@andrewbates1695 great to hear you're almost there mate. I've got the Garmin InReach Mini and it's excellent for 2 way communication with the missus when there's no phone signal, not to mention the 🆘 button should you need rescued. Subscriptions are a little expensive. I've gone for the cheaper safety plan that gives me unlimited messages from my 3 preset message list to a chosen contact and 10 free messages to anyone I like. £15pm.
@@WalkWithWallace can I ask where you got it as my better half wants to get one for this accident prone walker... 😂
@@andrewbates1695 I bought it from OS as they were the cheapest at the time. shop.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/garmin-inreach-mini/
oh this was a warm up for the cape, i was like ffs man take a rest. that first day woulda killed me.
Haha, it nearly did. You can see I was limping towards the end of the first day. 😬
Awesome mate. Really inspired by that. How did you route plan? Is there a gpx file or anything?
Cheers mate, I followed the Scottish National Trail you can get the gpx files from Walkhighlands:

Nice one, bud. Moan the Gorms... And the Return of Mack!!! 🐟 😉👌
Mackerel wraps this weekend? 🏕 👍🏻
A very nice adventure on the Scottish National Trail Robin, great scenery. I see you managed to find the ruined School hut not a big one though. I have tried the Makeral wraps they are great for a wee snack. Are you building up to the West Highland Way.
Cheers Douglas, glad you're digging the mackerel efforts. 😁
I done the WHW in 2011, undecided if I'll do it again unless the missus is up for it. 😁
@@WalkWithWallace Cheers Robin I will be doing the WHW in early May next year with the misses. Looking forward to it as well. Looks like your Tarptent has become one of your favourites.
Looking forward to your next outing. Stay Safe.
@@douglasbates389 nice one mate, many days you hoping to do it over? I reckon my missus would be up for it. Will need to pester her. 😁
@@WalkWithWallace Hoping to do it in Seven easy days and take in the beautiful scenery. My missus has already done it in 2012 with her mates in 8 days. We are are going to use a similar plan but merge two days together. I reckon your missus would enjoy it.
@@douglasbates389 I think 6-7 is the sweet spot if you want to relax and enjoy it. If I took Nicola, we'd do a mix of camping and B&Bs.
Some great scenery and nicely filmed. That first camp spot looked awesome. Would that trail be good for a relative novice?
Thanks mate, I think it's probably a good introduction for novices. The 1st and last days are pretty straightforward. The middle section may unnerve some in poor visibility as its quite bleak and remote. The river crossings on the second day would be tricky in spate.
Gpx files and route descriptions here. www.walkhighlands.co.uk/scottish-national-trail.shtml
Great vlog/your tent whats the spec/weights/set up...etc..uk distributor..??cheers
Hi David, I made an initial review video on the tent earlier this year that has the weight/set up etc (see link below). Sadly no UK distributor though, so you do get hit with the dreaded import tax. Cost me £355 all in.

Excellent hike Robin a lot harder than it looks mate especially after the "Falls of Tarf" which is the furthest i have been down Glen Tilt very remote and lonely after that and care needs to be taken. When was this?
Cheers Pete, it was just before the CWT trip. Wanted to test my gear and the legs before the biggy. 😁
Did you get that music I used by the way?
@@WalkWithWallace I did mate 👍 Great wee tune i think, Cheers.
@@MUNROSnCORBETTS it is, quite upbeat, but not overly. 🎶
@@WalkWithWallace cheers mate good to know. Thinking of switching out my sawyer & been looking at the katadyn for a while now 👍
@@sklunkersklunkersson8679 no probs. I've kept my Sawyers mini filter as backup if/when the Katadyn fails. The flow on it is woeful though. 🙃
Hey! Are you need camping table or chairs.?
Hi there, I'm fine thanks. Got what I need. 🏕
Drove through a portion of the Park on way to and from Skye and Edinburgh...1986! (That tells you how old I am).

Guid wan Robin...just watched in bed 😀. A place I have never been. The falls of tarf look amazing. Can I ask are you using a tripod for your films? Paul
Cheers Paul, how you feeling mate you fully recovered?
I do use a tripod mate, got a nice lightweight carbon one off Amazon.

Loch Loch eh... well we have the Ouse Burn here!!
That down in Newcastle?
certainly is. the Ouse Burn aint a bad city walk.

no, the Ouse Burn is a subsidiary of the Tyne. lol
Good stuff and totally, you have to reroute if it looks remotely like a classic scottish trail omg... ffs... why!?? section, but that skipped bit from insh to kingussie is pretty dreamy💯 even tho it looks like omg..why
Lol cheers, I had time constraints on the last day, plus the weather was to get worse as well. Made sense to adjust the route and use the shortcut on this occasion.
Excellent stuff. Its true tho, some trail sections make u feel like your just following someone who was looking for a tin of beans n sausage they dropped while lost the night before🤣
