This worked perfectly! My regular 15mm box end wrench fit but I had no idea how to get the leverage to loosen them. I don't have a bicycle mount/stand (or a pedal wrench) so your standing foot technique worked like a charm. Your video was probably the 7th video on this topic and the only one that worked! Thanks so much!
ahhhh man, thanks so much.....I gave up earlier, I calmed down and found this video. The foot on the wrench was the winner!!!!! couldn't believe how easy that un-done
I was literally going to give up and go to my bike shop after 30 minutes of hard work. This has to be one of the best hack videos of all time! Thank you so much! ❤

Struggling to get pedals off this afternoon. A lot of crappy 10 minute videos out there requiring special tools and then I found yours. Awesome tip. I got them off right away. Thank you!
Haha thanks for the comment man!!! Really appreciate it. Yeah, a lot of long, drawn out videos on UA-cam about this topic which don't really offer a proper solution. Sir, all I can say is thank you. I first ddnt know that the left the pedal had to be clockwise instead of lefty Loosey (like the norm)so with that I ended up tightening that at the beginning much more than it should have but with your trick even though I didn’t get to use the bits you mentioned I just use the wrench which did secure into the area and I put my weight on it to spin it it loosen it up I cannot thank you enough. You earned my follow.

I gotta give some major thanks on this one, sir. I worked for about an hour cussing and sweating to get a pedal off. LITERALLY 5 seconds of stepping on the damn wrench and it's off. I bow down to thee.
I'd been avoiding riding my road bike for years as I had a stuck clipless pedal and was unable to swap to a platform pedal, but decided to ride this morning, however dropped the bike when I forgot to clip out... Problem solved in 2 mins after watching your video. Thank you!!
@@joneinarmattiasvisser6113 Does it also have flat spots for a wrench? I've gotten pedals off before that were stuck good by one of the really long pedal wrenches as well and an impact gun and bit. JUST MAKE SURE YOU'RE TURNING THE RIGHT WAY!!!!! With the pedal up you should pull the wrench toward the back of the bike
This video saved me. I tried all the other methods in videos like using leverage, putting a plank to lock the turning, etc. This method was so easy and my pedals were stuck too since they didn’t use grease when first making the bike!
Thanks for the comment and glad you found this method helpful! This method is really the only foolproof method that works easily - every tiime. Check out my most recent video about this topic! ua-cam.com/video/G5CbZg2sKxc/v-deo.html Cheers and thanks again! 👍

Wow Thank you for sharing this.....you saved me from dragging my bike down to the local bike shop and begging him to borrow his pedal wrench. Foot push worked like a charm. Thanks for this invaluable tip!
You sir are a genius.......I never comment on anything but had to here.......after struggling for 40 mins I found this (the heel method) and all done in 5 mins ;)
I haven't worked on bikes for a year so I'm pretty rusty with tools. My old, expensive as hell bike was stolen because I was stupid and forgot to bring it in a year ago but I'm trying to get back into bicycles and I bought a cheap used BMX, rusted all over but I think i'll be able to restore it. these videos are really handy, I'll try them out tomorrow, thanks!
I’ve been spending hours trying to get my pedals off and watched several UA-cam videos with techniques, but this one worked at my first attempt…. Thanks so much for sharing this technique 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Used part of this trick this morning to swap out the pedals on a 'new' bike. I used to work in a bike shop, primarily sales, but I have a pedal wrench. The step on the wrench trick was genius for getting the pedals off-thank you sir!

I’m sitting here packaging a bike up to ship out, went to put it in the box and forgot to take the pedals off...felt like an idiot as I’ve built a few bikes but couldn’t get these damn pedals off! You’re tricked worked perfectly! Hell yeah!

Great ideas, and a nicely done video. I've ground down many a wrench to get into tight spaces on cars and bikes, I never would have come up with your method in a million years.
Haha yes I've ground down wrenches for this purpose too. At the time I made this video I was in a bit of a hurry however and didn't have ready or immediate access to a grinder. I also didn't want to grind down on any of my wrenches I had available at the moment (they were really nice). So that's how and why I cam up with this method LOL. 👍👍Thanks! Best technique i think. My brother just called a while back coz he can't remove one pedal. I told him some techniques, didn't work. Then i saw this, shared it to him. Boom! Problem solved.
Cool! Glad you found this helpful! Thanks for the comment. You could have even removed them in under 90 seconds! 😜 ua-cam.com/video/G5CbZg2sKxc/v-deo.html Cheers 👍
Thank you! I've been trying to use my hands (and an Allan key meant for assembling furniture) for the past 2 hours like am amateur. Turns out I didn't need that awkward Allan key after all. Thanks for making this video, it worked within 30 seconds of trying it.
Thanks for the comment!!! Glad you found this tip helpful! Yes, hex (eg. Allen) wrenches are a poor tool choice for removing pedals if other methods are available (like using a 15mm wrench). Not all pedals offer this option and can only be installed & removed with a hex wrench however (as can be seen in the following video at 0:30 seconds: ua-cam.com/video/G5CbZg2sKxc/v-deo.html) Thanks for watching and please have a look at some of my other how-to bike videos! ua-cam.com/play/PL6i5bgy9Y_ex9CJcJqyusM-XCe95ec2WR.html Cheers!!! 👍

Great idea. I have had this issue before and i ground down an old spanner. I wish that i had thought of this myself. You can buy narrower spanners/wrenches that are commonly used for the cone nuts on a wheels axle. This was very ingenious.
Thanks for the comment. I've ground down wrenches for this purpose before. I didn't feel like grinding down 1 of the only 2 15mm wrenches I had at the moment nor did I have a bench grinder or a pedal wrench readily available when I did this so I had to come up with a different solution. I had cone wrenches here as well but they typically can't handle the high level of torque that most stubborn pedals require to break loose.
Haha thanks! Glad you found this helpful! Please check out my most recent video about this topic as well as some of my other how-to bike tips as well! ua-cam.com/play/PL6i5bgy9Y_ex9CJcJqyusM-XCe95ec2WR.html Cheers!

Right now trying to get pedals off of a stationary bike. I'm using a 15 millimeter wrench applying pressure and tapping it with a hammer to create an impact but getting nowhere. I'm glad I found your video. I'm about to try your technique.
Thanks for the comment! Attempting to create an impact force by tapping or striking with a hammer doesn't really work well in this case. What you need is a constant but steadily increasing amount of torque applied to the pedal, increasing in amount until it overcomes and thus loosens the pedal. Post back and let me know how it works! Thanks for watching and check out my other "how to remove pedals" vides as well as some other great how to bike tips! ua-cam.com/play/PL6i5bgy9Y_ex9CJcJqyusM-XCe95ec2WR.html Cheers! 👍👍
@theadventurebiker You were correct. I was trying the impact method until I found your video. I was able to get both pedals off with your suggestion. Thanks. I'll check out your other how to videos.😃
Fast forward four years to Jan 2024, this is still sound advice. I did the shoe pressing against the box wrench thing, a stubborn pedal came right off. A pedal that I had been struggling with for a half hour to remove. As to the narrow spindles, I'll remember that technique, but pray I never have to deal with that.

Hey Dear Sir! :) Perfect idea! I was thinking about the problem for about 1 day after I started to look for a solution here. It is such a pleasure to learn from each other. Fantastic ! I found a tossed bike with no pedals. I have many frames I found, so I wanted to take the pedals off of one and put on the good bike. No way. Rusted and siezed on ! WD40 did not help much. Your idea is cool. The only upgrade is some tape to hold the little hex guys in place. They kept falling off when I stepped on them. Now I am good to go ! i GOT PEDALS ON IT NOW ! ANOTHER COMPLETE BIKE SAVED FROM THE LANDFILL ! YOU DA MAN !

I suggest super gluing the small screw driver bits on the wre 2:09 nch flats to stop them from falling off before you slip the wrench over the pedal crank in flats

@@theadventurebiker this got me through initially, but I knew I needed a solid solution for a pedal wrench, so I took a spare flat 16mm spanner and I filed it down to accomodate the larger spindle on the Swiss Army bike. All good!

BLessed are the manufactures that put large hex bits in the pedals
Haha yes! I prefer that design better myself. 👍
My bike has that but this does not make the removal any easier. My pedals are too stuck..
With the pedal up you should pull the wrench toward the back of the bike
hex key option is also common on pedals these days.

Thanks for the comment!!! Glad you found this tip helpful! Yes, hex (eg. Allen) wrenches are a poor tool choice for removing pedals if other methods are available (like using a 15mm wrench). Not all pedals offer this option and can only be installed & removed with a hex wrench however (as can be seen in the following video at 0:30 seconds: ua-cam.com/video/G5CbZg2sKxc/v-deo.html)

World needs men like you. Sterling effort.

Hey Dear Sir! :) Perfect idea! I was thinking about the problem for about 1 day after I started to look for a solution here. It is such a pleasure to learn from each other.
And after struggling for a day I could really resonate with the idea of: "Piece of cake!" as I removed it in the end. :))) One really appreciates the success after so much sweating.
God bless You Sir! :)

Haha thanks for the comment!!! Glad this worked for you! Cheers 👍👍👍

Now I know! That is a great idea! Thanks

I suggest super gluing the small screw driver bits on the wre 2:09 nch flats to stop them from falling off before you slip the wrench over the pedal crank in flats
Great tip and while helpful I don't think that's absolutely necessary. Thanks for the tip however!

I have all kinds of pedal wrenches and flat spanners, but none worked on my antique Swiss Army bike because they have a WAY bigger spindle! But now I know how to pull this off!! Thank you!! UDAMAN!

@@theadventurebiker this got me through initially, but I knew I needed a solid solution for a pedal wrench, so I took a spare flat 16mm spanner and I filed it down to accomodate the larger spindle on the Swiss Army bike. All good!
I tried it, and it was so effective!! Wise technique.
