  • I had no idea this was coming, but they're back at it - Slipknot have just released a new song off of their upcoming new album out later this year. It's called "The Dying Song (Time To Sing)" and of course they've released a killer video to go alongside it. Obviously metal is a little more out of my comfort zone, but let's take a look and see if this new track is any good and if so, why? Do you like it? Are you excited about Slipknot releasing a new album? Talk to me in the comments.

I've always found Slipknot interesting. I've noticed a famous pop hook diguised in at least two of their big singles. The melodic sections are catchy as fuck for a reason, wether they started off with this philosophy I'm not sure. When I taught media in the mid to late ni nineties they had a profound effect on teens of a certain kind at the time. Interestingly, reserved, quite types both male and female. I admired their choice and have followed them since, wether those students still do is another question. Kids in their early forties by now. Clever band, clever marketing.

You're pretty much on the money, Corey has said that from the very beginning, he made it a point to have some sort of hook in every song, even when it wasn't really a melody, to set himself and the band apart from other artists who were just screaming or growling all the time.

Why did I not know about your channel before? Loved your breakdown of Graham Coxon's guitar playing on the song 2 vid. Something on the playing of Joey Santiago of the Pixies would be v. interesting as he’s an atypical guitarist, it’s often difficult to verbalise why he’s so great.

Mic Thompson's rythm guitar and James root on lead is nuts.
As the band grows the musicianship really shows through.
I believe Corey Taylor is the only singer in world music that can sing in 7 octaves.
    Very underated band musically.

Pretty sure Mike Patton has the widest recorded vocal range in popular music. Corey is a powerhouse and has stayed so for years, but he's just pipped to the post by a few others.

I'm glad youtube saw fit to pop one of this guy's videos into my feed. I had never heard of him until very recently, but he's obviously a gifted singer and a capable guitarist and I find him quite likeable. I suspect we're about the same age and grew up with the same influences. Only he did so in Europe and I did so in Texas but it's cool to see how even though that's the case we still speak the same lingo and would get along quite well I think. And I dig the English mannerisms and charm. Reminds me a lot of Russell Brand at times.

@ghost mall Yeah, I had learned that, but I had never heard of them either. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But I'm so not hip to modern music, so that doesn't mean a lot.

Phil Anselmo coined the frase Maggots for the crowd on a headbangers ball episode from 94 or 95. Someone in Slipknot defo seen that episode and took it. Phil describes on the episode how he calls them maggots because that's what the crowd looks like from stage.

I've been a fan for many years and watching your videos over the last few months has really got me back into your music again. I really love and appreciate your analysis and consideration of the music, and the kind way you approach each subject. I especially love your guitar playing, i really think you're an under rated and underappreciated talent. Thank you for your videos and congratulations on the success of this channel. For your Q&A videos, what kind of thing do you like to play just for practicing guitar, to keep your fingers finely honed instruments of face melting destruction. Cheers!

Slipknot headlining Download 3 times and despite not being their biggest fan I was at every single gig they headlined. Pure carnage live. I've also seen The Darkness at Download once and Hot Leg in 2009 in Newport with Extreme. All hail Nuno Bettencourt 🙌

Corey Taylir, the singer, has an affi ity fir 80's pip, rock, glam, so it wouldn't be surprising if he took inspiration from an 80's band in coming up with the vocal melody. He is a HUGE Steel Panther fan lol.

Justin, can you arrange to have your bands’ catalog uploaded to major streaming services like Amazon Music, Apple Music, etc. to the best quality files? Mere HD CD quality isn’t enough when we can have you and your bands’ amazingness in the crispiest highest quality Digital Lossless with Dolby and Spatial Audio engaged!
Thanks for all the laughs and amazing content every single day! Me and my service dog, Hughie (Huey), love listening to you - well he mostly loves hearing the JHRA channel theme song anyway, lol. 😂
