I have a really bad habit of making my way through about 90% of a WIP and then just abandoning it for a new one. I think it's because my brain gets the dopamine hit of it being 'finished' before it's actually all the way done, so I lose motivation to truly FINISH finish. This means I have a lot of random almost finished WIPS floating around, and some of them stay that way for YEARS. So I feel you on that granny square blankets that just needs joining. I decided to just polish some of them off this month, but this video made me laugh because it reminds me so much of my weird little habit!
Me too! Like so close to the end it makes no sense. I’m staring at a lil bear right now who’s missing 1 leg. It’s all done & ready to be sewed on to his body but for some reason last week when I got the very last step I just decided that was enough ..when there’s literally about 1 min of work left. Crazy! Honestly I thought it was just me that took it quite that far.
*glances over at the sweater that needs to be washed and blocked that I started in 2019, the cowl that needs to be stitched together, and the shawl that I started working in 2020 as a present, plus a blanket and other various projects.* Yup. So relatable. xD
I absolutely love the idea of temperature blankets. I’m a meteorologist so I work with weather all the time. I’m also a big fan of history so historical temperature blankets really capture a lot of who I am. Tony, you inspired me to start my first temperature blanket this year and I cannot thank you enough! I am loving the experience so much that I’ve already planned out next years 😂!
Yay! Someone enjoying temperature blankets as much as me :-) So glad we can enjoy this together. Seeing all my colors jumbled up as the seasons change is such a treat.
Oh my gosh…working on one also. Just started it 2 weeks ago…but I wanted it to begin with January. I’m mid March just 2 weeks in! Crocheting the moss stitch helps it move along quickly. Enjoy every stitch!
I'm a 1 WIP person, I just finished my first blanket. I have some fingering weight wool that was given to me that my mother was working with so I really want to make a nice top for myself but I am struggling to use it. My mother passed away in 2019 so I want to honor all her hard work she did knitting and crocheting for us 4 kids.
I almost always have 2 or 3 WIPs at once. My proccess goes like this: I get inspired and want to try something I've never done before. Then I get anxiety overload and want to go back to a project I'm familiar with. Then I get hit with the urge to make something for somebody. I Fight with myself over which one to do. I get frustrated and start to finish make three other non-related things. Then, in a panic attack over how many projects I have going, I power finish all of them in a week. I take a break for a day or two and it happens all over again. Your videos help keep me sane while I'm in the Power Finish stage! I'm going to try to follow your example and let go of some projects.
When you pulled bag after bag out of the closet, I felt so normalized! Heck, I bring 2 - 3 WiPs with me to spend a crafternoon with my friend! I'm grateful to hear your categories, F, F, I, D!
I was going to ask the exact same question to Toni - how; where? I have seen unfinished projects with yarn etc at Thrift stores. Are there other places too where you can Destash?
Toni, I love your honesty about what’s really practical regarding WIPS: finishing something you love or just letting go. I know sometimes I get too stuck on a “dream” and have a hard time changing course and saying goodbye. You’ve encouraged me.
glad you're interested in the destash process. I have a fun video planned to show my process, as well as some suggestions on how other makers can pass on yarns + projects they no longer want :-)
Another great video! While crocheting is my hobby, quilting is my job, I still have a few WIPS. The memories attached to the WIPS are my yarn journals. Your stories related to each project is why I return to your channel. I would love to see the Granny Square project completed. Please continue to inspire!
I have more WIPs than I can count, but in the Secret Yarnery language, most of them are really sitting in UFO land. They aren't really WIPS that I intend on finishing but things that I plan to frog and use the yarn later for something different. Also, I have a handful of beautiful projects that I would love to finish, but they are for myself, and I have a bunch of WIPS for others that have date deadlines (birthday, mother's day, father's day and baby shower gifts) that need to be finished first. Those projects will get finished, but I'm not going to rush or put any undue pressure on myself for the "me" ones. Those are my relaxing de-stress projects that I grab when the other deadlines are threatening to drive me crazy. Hugs & blessings💜💜💜
“Do you ever annoy yourself?” Girl. lol. It’s not on the daily, but there are times that I’m second guessing my life, lol. Love the video! Love the sentiment. I’m actually thinking about doing a big destash, myself.
Hi Toni I am a one-WIP kind of girl. I have to finish a project before moving onto another one. However, you were right though. It does get boring during the middle of the project and how I solved that just by working on one project to keep me motivated. I would also carry that project everywhere (it's a small project) wherever I am going, whether travelling on the bus or getting a ride to work, I whip out my project to work on it.
I am so glad that I'm in good company about my WIPs. I have greatly reduced my need to buy more yarn. Instead, I "go shopping" in my large yarn stash for any new projects. I tend to work on several knit and crochets at a time. I'm currently working through about 6 projects. I do a few rows/rounds on one and then put it down picking up another for a few rows/rounds. One thing I really liked about what you said is de-stashing. You have inspired me to go through the older WIPs and decide to de-stash it in honor of Spring Cleaning! 🙂
Although I am way late to this video, it is very timely for me! I only have a couple of wips and recently decided to finish one. I need to look at my other 2 projects and decide to finish or frog them. Thanks for the motivation. And I totally love how you said knitting is going to stay a hobby and not a job. Totally respect that! Something definitely changes when a hobby is turned into a hustle.
Really liked this video I am a novice crocheter. I don’t even know if that’s the correct term. I have been crocheting off & on since I was in Girl Scouts where I learned how to crochet when I was eight years old. 71 years ago. I love crochet and just the last few years I have learned to knit. Am self taught. Loved this video. Made me feel better about myself since I have just about as many unfinished projects as you. You made my day!😊
I have several types of needle craft WIPs in the wings. I’m embroidering a skunk (a joke gift for hubby), a huge Jacobean crewel embroidery tree of life, a William Morris embroidery motif, a scarf on my rigid heddle loom, and a granny hexagon cardigan. I embroidered so much last year I burnt out like a wet log. When I finish my scarf on the loom I need to warp my bigger loom for the first time. It’s intimidating so I’m procrastinating finishing my scarf. Thus I’m working on my first hexagon cardigan. All the others will be on ice until I get the burn to embroider again. I’m really enjoying learning more crochet styles, stitches and projects. Back when I used to crochet a lot, there was no such thing as UA-cam. We had magazines or books. Now I’m adding to my repertoire and it’s a scream. 🙀 loving it. Enjoyed your video! Go for it!
I loooooove granny squares but am obsessed with the granny stitch even more! I'm inspired to finish up my WIPs so I can feel like I can move on to the next. Next inspiration is a linen stitch blanket along with a granny hexagon cardigan. Thank you for always being such a happy corner of the internet!
Enjoyed seeing your WIPs. It makes me feel better about having so many of my own. Currently I have 7 WIPs…4 blankets: one is almost finished, one is a CAL, one is a birthstone blanket and one is a granny using minis. One shawl, one baby blanket for BOD’s month MAL and a ruana I started a year or so ago. Whew! I better get working on these.😅
Toni you are not alone. I too must have multiple blanket wips at a time. My crafty friends all think I'm crazy but I just love it. I recently cleaned out my wip storage. Yes, I keep wipe in a storage bin unless the have a recent due date. Lol. The awesome thing about doing that cleanup was projects I lost love for, I repurposed the yarn to make donation blankets. I frogged them and added other yarns/colors I'm excited about now. I've done 2 so far. In between that, I make soap sacks, which give me the instant gratification motivation I need to keep going on the bigger projects.
The granny stitch blanket goes so well with your beaded curtains in the background! I have a few (ahem) WIPs. I sew mostly, but got into amigurumi last summer because its easier to take camping when there's no electricity. My main crochet wips are a temperature blanket and a Godzilla. I like to mix things up...that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!
I love the preface/intro to your video. I find it so relaxing. More! Love your hat, especially the color. ❤ love your expression when you have your first sip of coffee. I call it the “Elixir of life!” Can’t wait to see your WIPS! I prefer more than one WIP to keep life interesting. I’m not good with blankets. So I packed up a Tunisian afghan I started with the pattern, yarn and project started and sold it! Someone was very happy to have it. And that made me happy. I made a list last year to finish WIPs and it worked. Only have one or two left. In the meantime, I’ve made several other things for birthdays, etc.
I actually just started maybe a month ago, it's like magic when muscle memory takes over! I practice and practice and ruined part of a couple yards of different, very non-beginner yarns 😁 I have a TERRIBLE habit of starting projects. It feels like it's part of my damn personality at this point. But not with crochet!! I started a small, mish-mash blankie of practice strips that I put together and actually FINISHED. Not huge, but different textures and softness, just to carry around. I have four foster kids under 8, and they will all go home with a piece of my heart in those little calm-down blankies😊 First actual project and I finished it before starting another! 😮😮😮 Now working on my first grandchild's blanket, started it last night and I already see how I can start with a 10-chain width then turn and work off the long side, using the initial strip a large bottom border. I am so excited!❤
That scrappy granny is beautiful. But that cardigan, I'm in love. It works with your hat. WOW GIRL. I'm inspired. I have 3 wips right now. I am going to push through and get busy. Thanks as always for the inspiration. Love and Blessings❤❤❤
I have so many wips. Seeing all of yours makes me feel better. I have decided that 2024 is the year of the wips, and made it my goal to finish all of them before starting any new projects.
Hello Toni, Your beautiful signed book arrived in the mail today. Along with a couple of sweet stickers and a candy.❤ You are the best. I love the book and i just wanted to say thank you. Happy crafting and God bless ❤🙏 I will be at work when your cool program starts but i will check it out when i get home. ❤
This video makes me feel so much better. I have so many wips all over the house. 😂 love knowing other folks also have many projects going at once, some of which may get done and some which might not. Lol.
Hi Toni, I have many knitting and crocheting WIPs going back years. You made a comment about your WIPs which truly resonated with me. You said how motivated and excited you are at the beginning of a project and motivated and excited at the completion of that project. However, It is the middle of a project that can cause lethargy and the project ends up in a time-out. I never thought of it that way but hearing you describe it fits my WIP behavior perfectly! So thank you for your videos and keep them coming.
Thanks for sharing and for your candor. I’m swimming in WIPs. It’s the thrill of starting interrupted by the middle part when interest wanes. One of the reasons I pattern test is not only to support designers but also to ensure that I’ll finish a project! 😅
Toni, thank you so much for your videos! Seeing your beautiful face and hearing your lovely voice really put me in a happy place! I have two WIPs that I've been avoiding, both are blankets that were far more advanced than my skills. Both of them were sent ton"time out" a few years ago. But now, after learning so much from your videos, I'm ready to tackle them again. Fingers crossed!
Yup, I have a few WIPs. I started some tops last year and am still working on them. I get bored so I work on my WIPs in rotation. Never feel guilty about creative thinking. I paint that way. I have 3 oil paintings that I’m currently working on as well. I have been watching you for 5 years. I adore you and your channel. You bring out creativity and joy. I thank you so very much. ❤
I usually just do one thing at a time, but i have one iced project....a granny square pixelated skull. I finished all of the squares once in the traditional holey style, but it was too loosly crocheted, and when i started piecing it together, it looked like the project of a child. Now, i am frogging it a row at a time. Then, i am re crocheting it into a closed smaller granny square, sewing them together as i go, and it looks a million times better. I just feel like its a lot of work. So that sits on the back burner, but i want to finish it. I know its going to be amazing when its completed. Working on a shawl right now that is almost complete. I also make wash cloths for my friend's soap making business. She bought tons of yarn and i think i am a bit overwhelmed. The washcloths are my traveling wips becuase they are small and i can just chuck them in a bag and go. Looking for more inspiration on some cute stitches for them. So, i really am only working on about three things at once, but i am generally a one wip chick. Lysm! I cant wait to see how your projects progress! 😂 Edit!! I have a 4th project....a star blanket. I got the color because it was at JoAnn for their yarnormous sale, and looks great with my duvet! I thought i finished it, but my hubby didnt think it was big enough. So i got more yarn to make it bigger. It wouldn't take long to finish, but its getting pretty warm out. So, it may have to wait until Autumn. Lots of love! ❤️😁
I love the fact that you aren't worrying too much about the destash and just sending everything to a new home. I think sometimes I worry about the yarn that's caught up in the project and then I stall... not getting rid of it, but still not finishing. Thanks for this perspective!
Yep. Sounds like me. I love starting and finishing, but it’s that peaky middle part that gets me! Love seeing all of your WIPs and I like that it gives us all permission not to finish projects that we lost the passion for!
I do a handful of crochet projects to help keep away "burn out"... I currantly have 3 bags a dress a baby blanket... 4 bathing suits and 4 sweaters...(2 granny square and 1 hoody and 1 hexigon)whew... So yea i got wips!!!! ❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂the first scrap blanket matches the hanging beads behind you perfectly!!!! ❤❤❤I found the red heart "mini skein " super craft kit on the big A zon.... U get 12 mini skeins ...i dont use red heart much any more.. but these mini skeins are so stinkin cute... Theyre literally like lil red heart skeins just smaller..... I have three more to get.... So fun!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
OMG. If I count up wips plus projects that I've collected all resources for and am ready to start, I get to 63! One of these I started in 1987! Aaaaargh! Love your work (including the hobby stuff) 😊
Omgosh I have so many WIPs. 🙈 2 baby blankets for friends, my 2023 temp blanket that has December & the border left, a toddler shrug for another friend, a couple Granny squares for a school spirit cardigan for my daughter, a lacey skull choker, 2 plant hangers, & a just because blanket I started with yarn I didn't choose for my temp blanket. 😅😅 Those are just off the top of my head, but I bet you I have more. The excitement of a new project gets me every time & then before I knew it, I accrued almost a dozen WIPs. 🤷🏻♀️
I'm IN LOVE with your Sewrella cardigan. I would love a pattern on that! I also really enjoy seeing other people's WIP stash because I tend to have forty different projects of the same type going. I tend to hyperfixate on a pattern or stitch, and I will just make that one thing for months in different yarns. Wash cloths, granny stitch triangle shawls, granny stripe blankets. I really enjoy being in that middle stage where I don't have to think about the project.
I am a process knitter and crocheter so am fine with many WIPs. My WIPs have several categories: travel: simple for social gatherings; complex that need concentration; gifts; and seasonal for clothing. I review my WIPs periodically so am fine with project diversity. I developed tendinitis in my left arm from marathon knitting, having multiple projects now reduces the arm pain post OT.
So nice to know that we all can serve as your accountability buddies. You, Toni, have inspired me to bring my WIPs out into the Spring sunshine and get them organized! Thanks!!
Omg. Good on you for not letting that rude comment about hamburger meat throw you off the project. That would have stopped me in my tracks. For what it’s worth, my mind went strawberry banana smoothie. I’m happy to hear you used your awesome sense of humor to push past and dubbed it the “meatball sweater”. I love it!
5 WIPs currently going. I will finish up a shawl that is a gift and my new Christmas tree skirt this weekend. I should finish the 5 matching doilies to the tree skirt by the end of April. Also a summer sweater and a blanket by the end of May. But I am starting 5 bucket hats in cotton as gifts for my gardening group. A ring bearer pillow and a bridal shawl that needs to be done by the end of September in 10 weight thread. And also anything else that comes to mind or catches my fancy. Happy hooking everyone.😁
I just started crocheting three months ago. I'm working on the Marlo hat right now and it's really fun! I also made your Starlight Basket. As a beginner who has only done a few amigurumi, the starlight basket was an awesome project. I learned 2 new stitches(WCS and HDC)! The Marlo ahd has also taught me three new stitches (DC, FPDC and BPDC). I love listening to your videos while I work. Thanks for all you do!
Tales of the Many WIPs is so relatable! It's so refreshing to discover this with fellow crocheters. There's just something about moving on to a new project for all the excitement it entails. My craziest one - that I need to finish very soon or else the baby will not be able to enjoy it - is a sweater set. I made the hat with removable flowers, the sweater that just needs buttons, and what's left is just one mitten and one slipper. What is my problem?! This video and all the comments are very reassuring in this yarn hobby of ours. Oh, and I am in my purple phase, too! (p.s. What does the term ICE mean?) Thanks again for sharing what's real. I love Hooked by Robin and also use her JAYG instruction. It's fabulous.
Can I just say thank you!!!! I have so many wips I was feeling like "what's wrong with me?" I just can't finish one project before starting the next ...this video made me feel like it might be normal! 😂 I love your takes on all of your projects and ....my goodness I can relate to just about everything you said! You're amazing!! Thank you for all your videos and I will now feel better about going through my own wips! Have a great day!! ❤
Just reading these comments makes me feel SO much better. I have a few crochet WIPs and a few knitting WIPS. I have put myself on moratorium for buying any new yarn, and I’m looking for easy patterns to detach my older boring yarns with. Thanks for the inspiration Toni!!
My most favorite video ever! After seeing your WIP stash, I know I can tackle mine--and it's not just bc you have more than I have. (Wink) Love what you do!
Watched this yesterday and decided to frog a temp blanket from 2022. While listening to this video I realized I could still use the yarn just not in that chosen project. I am excited to start the new blanket and finally use the yarn!! Thanks for helping me to make that decision!! Sometimes frogging is the best way to work through the slump!!
I always have many many WIPs going. Some are long term, like your blankets, and some are short term market prep-type items. I like to switch things up when my brain gets bored of something.
Love your videos, so relaxing. You have taught me so much. You remind me of myself, my WIP's are stored in different bags with all the yarn. I had to laugh and every so often, I take out all my WIP's every now and then just to get motivation. Great minds think alike. Have a great day.
I loved this! I thought I was the only one with a stash of WIPS. The shame has been lifted! 😅 😂😂😂 I have a “Monica’s Secret Closet” Friends episode where she stashes all of her stuff. 😂😂😂 I really enjoy all your videos!
I feel you. I gave have myself a challenge last year that I called “Finish it 2023”. I went through allll of my unfinished projects in all areas of my crafting hobbies and tried to finish them. Some had been languishing for a decade or more! There were paper crafts, unfinished quilts, sewing garments, knitting, crochet, and cross stitch. I ended up finishing all but two and decided to let go of one. It feels really great and motivating. I started with an easy one to finish and often alternated with a harder one to keep the motivation going.
Meatball sweater 😂. One of my WIPs is in pale yarn with dark flecks - just like banana bread, so yeah, it’s officially the banana bread sweater. I only have 4 WIPS and one is a colorwork fingerless glove perpetually waiting for me to start glove 2. I feel for you with the seasonal affective disorder. Mine is reverse. I thrive in the cooling relief of winter downtime when I have more time to create. Summer is our busy time & I have to be out in the heat, dust, and bugs. I feel my soul both lifting and relaxing around mid September instead of spring. 🤷♀️
I am a ufo and wip queeen too. But at the moment I am actually hyperfocusing on finishing my projects and put a hard stop on new projects which was way harder that I originally thought. But I will power through. You have some very nice wips! Love your channel even though I don't always comment. I do watch your content ♥ ♥
I was inspired to start organizing my yarn and WIPs earlier in the year thru one of your other videos. I organized as best as I could and it feels good. I also donated some projects with the yarn and pattern. I like to have 3 WIPS AT A TIME🫣😝. I always enjoy your videos. Thanks for getting my Sunday off to a good start!
My whips are manageable, for now. I have been a life long knitter, and because of you, I have been enjoying the speed of crochet! I was hoping to see your Granny Square Bomber Style Jacket in this update-I’ll keep watching😊
Thank you Toni! This was a great inspiration to get my wips organized. I've got 8 going right now: 3 sweaters, 3 blankets, a chair cover, and a set of kitchen towels and dishrags. Also glad to know I'm not the only one who completely loses interest in a WIP and destashes it.
Love to see what others have going on! I have a v-stitch blanket, a granny stitch in the round blanket, a pair of socks with just one finished, testing a pattern, and about to start a Tunisian crochet blanket. When I have an idea for a project, I have to get it started to see if it has staying power😂
I have a small WIP collection in several craft "mediums." I just finished knitting one of my shawls (year and a half) and need to weave and block but remembered the shawl I "finished" last summer... I am now weaving and preparing to block as I watch you lol. Can't wait to use my beautiful shawl that has been languishing on a shelf! Also in the process of basting (stage before final quilting and binding) a light weight quilt that has been "in progress" for 14!!! years. Honestly even more excited to finally be done and be able to use that one lol. A note on your knit hat: the "twisted" bottom ribbing is in fact twisted knit stitches: you were knitting into the back loop.
I usually have a couple of blankets going at any given time. Then too, something small and portable that I tell myself that I will/can work on on my way to work -on public transit 🚐. Which I do... sometimes. Not nearly as often as I should. Just here in my living room I can see 5 though, and 2 are baby blankets. Eventually they'll be completed 😊.
Oh my goodness! I have WIPs of WIPs... It STARTED as wanting to de-stash old yarns that I had inherited or bought many years ago. I got back into crochet and was having fun. I picked an amigurimi making challenge and though I started several, I completed only one. I got side-tracked with trying Tunisian crochet because you made it so easy to learn! (TBF - it's like crochet and knit had a baby and I am 100% here for it!) I was trying with varied success to make panels/squares to put together later in some sort of patchwork blanket and it's still in pieces, with not enough panels for a blanket yet. Once I lost a little interest due to distractions, I decided some granny squares might help me work through some yarn pretty quickly. Long story is I have at least two blankets still in pieces, a couple of pieces of crochet animals from that period. Got news of expected baby in the family and threw myself into making a baby blanket with all the baby yarn I had. Finished that one before the baby was born, so that was a win. Also, between my birthday and Yuletide, I received beautiful sock yarn (so have a pattern in mind, but haven't done anything yet) and family members asking for crochet snowflakes... Then, with gifting season approaching, decided to theme gifts for the year with fingerless gloves, scarves, hats, lap blankets. Got many of those done, but still have one unfinished scarf and one unfinished pair of fingerless gloves waiting in my WIPs... So Toni, you are not alone!
Your temperature blanket video at the end of last year inspired me to take the leap and make one for 2024! Technically I’m making a modified one, tracking moon phases and weather instead of temperature, but I’m so glad I decided to take on the project. It’s just single crochet rows but it’s already big enough to cover my lap if I sit cross-legged.
Hi! My friends call me the Queen of Wips lol.I have about 15 or more Wips. A lot of them blankets as that’s my favourite thing to make. Started another blanket today. Loved seeing your wips too 🧶🧶🧶
hi toni!!! i only started crocheting a couple of months ago, but so far i'm more of a one-wip-at-a-time crocheter !! i get so easily overwhelmed that i tell myself i need to finish one project before moving onto the next, because i know i'll never finish anything if i put it on the backburner! : ) so far i've made a blanket, two bags, a bikini set, a granny square balaclava, a bandana and a cat beanie, so maybe once i get further in my journey i'll have multiple wips at a time : ) i'm starting a sweater this week, so we'll see how that goes!!! : ) i love binging your videos while i work and i learn so much from you without even trying ! you're overflowing with crochet knowledge and i'm so grateful for your videos... i never watch youtube but you keep me hooked (pun intended hehehehe) : ))) thank you so much for everything !! : )
I really don't know how many WIPs I have but off the top of my head, I estimate I have around 10. I have two baby blankets I should have finished a long time ago and I have several shawls in the making. I have one leg of a Somebunny made. I also have plans for making a sweater and several items for my pets. Oh and a few years back when I found out I was adopted and found out about my half-siblings I had the bright idea of making a temperature blanket with the weather of every one of the known siblings weather for that year for all three of my sisters and one for me. Yes that is four blankets with the daily temperature of six siblings with the border representing an unknown brother whom we call baby boy ( we know that he was adopted as a baby but not where he is now) and a sister who passed in 2019. I didn't know about her till 2020. Yes call me crazy. It is crazy just to think I can pull all of that off.
I have four crochet wips and two sewing wips. Two of the crochet wips are actual christmas gifts so they can be worked on a bit slowly, one is a summer shirt, which I need to crack out in the next few weeks and the other is a summer pot holder. I did finish another pot holder, but since most of my pot holders and shawls wind up being gifts, who knows how many I will make this year.
This inspired me to look my WIPs in the eye and consider whether I still wanted to work on them or not. I have 2 blankets on the go, my temperature blanket for 2024 and a mood blanket, both of them made of granny squares. I’m also knitting socks and crocheting a summer top for my niece and I’ve been trying to knit myself a fair isle cardigan (Mary Tudor pattern by Alice Starmore) for 3 years now... I’ve decided to de stash the socks and donate them to a local charity where volunteers knit beanies and socks for people in need. I’m still working on my granny square blankets and the top for my niece. I however can’t bring myself to abandon my fair isle cardi, I’ll put it on ice till the summer holidays where I’ll have more free time!
I love having several WIPs at at time. I work on a WIP according to which one I feel like working on. Currently working on the Lamia wrap, blanket, hat, scarf and shawl. 🎉
Thanks for covering this topic! Sometimes my WIPs make me feel like a slacker, but I do try to keep it to less than a dozen at any one time, and I recently gave myself a goal of finishing one WIP between 2 other projects (provided they don't also get set aside). I feel better about my chances of finishing these and I've started feeling less badly about just frogging something if I know I won't finish, no matter how far along I've gotten! Thanks also for sharing your projects, your blog has inspired me to try Tunisian crochet, your blog tutorials are so helpful.
My spouse has been constructing cabinets in the garage to house about 70% of my stash that was all over the house including a bath tub! In going through my stash I have found about 25 WIPs including baby stuff for my granddaughter who is now 7!!!😜🙀😸😹 and some were 90% done😅 These will be done first, two beautiful shawls😮😊
I crochet, knit, and loom knit...I have too many wips LOL I have a blanket, a blanket, and another blanket (all gifts for different family members, thankfully planned for different times of the year), a pair of slipper socks, a set of pot holders, curtains, and an attempt at knitting socks.
I have tons of WIPs right now. I'm sticking to one knit project and one crochet project at a time so I get variety but also progress towards finishing. Keeping a journal has really helped me stay on track.
I love some of your colour choices and the granny afghan is beautiful, I hope you finish it soon. I have one wip, I usually finish what I start before I let myself start another. You have some really nice projects I 'm cheering for you to get to some🙂
I have so. Many. WIPS!! It's like I have WIP ADHD. When I started crocheting a few months ago I didn't understand having more than one project in process at a time. Now I totally get it!
Haha, I was a one wip gal until I started to learn Tunisian Crochet....now I want to do them all!!! I am currently cranking out blankets for graduation presents for my son and his friends....he asked for 10 😮😮....but I have the Adventurous Shawl and anxiously awaiting tomorrow's release of the Olivia!
I am in love with sewrella yarn. Currently saving up my “fun money” to buy enough to make a cardigan. The colors on your cardigan are just *chefs kiss* I need a hand dyed cardigan in my life.
I definitely have some wips lurking that I've been avoiding 😂 Thanks for this reminder that wips deserve love too. It's a kick in the butt for me to get get crackin on them again ❤
I've only just gotten back into crocheting in the last few months after not really having done any since I was a kid. I'm trying to stick to only a couple of projects going at a time 😅 Right now I'm making both of my cats these mini blankets (basically going home baby blankets) and I'm currently making myself a shawl. But I have Many Many plans and the yarn for those plans already. Also, hearing you talk to yourself was extra fun for me because my name is also Toni and I say the SAME things to myself all the time
Timmie’s! Canadian girl here - there’s a tims in my backyard 😂 Loved this video - has given me the motivation to pull out my Tunisian sampler blanket and work on some new squares!! ❤
Lol I do the same too!😅 Sometimes I end up frogging some because I forget what I was doing.
OMG! so glad I am not the only one with numerous WIPS hanging out in the closet!
this is so relatable especially with my sewing projects
Oh my . I'm glad I'm not alone in this 😅😂 ❤
*glances over at the sweater that needs to be washed and blocked that I started in 2019, the cowl that needs to be stitched together, and the shawl that I started working in 2020 as a present, plus a blanket and other various projects.* Yup.
Z😅g6
6hh3h5😅66😅
Oh my gosh…working on one also. Just started it 2 weeks ago…but I wanted it to begin with January. I’m mid March just 2 weeks in! Crocheting the moss stitch helps it move along quickly. Enjoy every stitch!
I'm a 1 WIP person, I just finished my first blanket. I have some fingering weight wool that was given to me that my mother was working with so I really want to make a nice top for myself but I am struggling to use it. My mother passed away in 2019 so I want to honor all her hard work she did knitting and crocheting for us 4 kids.
May or may not have shed a few happy tears to hear that you’ve joined the knitting world and you’re keeping it for yourself. I’m so happy for you!!!
your vibes are vibin. " don't worry about the ends, that's future Toni's problem." Screaming, lol. :D
future Toni is gonna kill me! lol
I'm going to try to follow your example and let go of some projects.
lol this sounds so familiar! It's an interesting cycle of creativity and motivation. Happy to crochet with you!
I also feel that seasonal depression lifting…. It was a rough winter this year. Happy you’re doing such big and awesome things Miss Toni
right there with you, babe! Here's to a spring filled with positive energy and inspiration 🙌
When you pulled bag after bag out of the closet, I felt so normalized! Heck, I bring 2 - 3 WiPs with me to spend a crafternoon with my friend!
I'm grateful to hear your categories, F, F, I, D!
Toni, I’d love to know what you do when you Destash your yarn? Also, YESSSS to the Q&A! We can all work on WIPs together!
Yes, I would love to know, too.
I am so glad to see I'm not the only one with so many WIP, so many ideas, so little time 😊😊
Love you, Toni ❤
I was going to ask the exact same question to Toni - how; where? I have seen unfinished projects with yarn etc at Thrift stores. Are there other places too where you can Destash?
Toni, I love your honesty about what’s really practical regarding WIPS: finishing something you love or just letting go. I know sometimes I get too stuck on a “dream” and have a hard time changing course and saying goodbye. You’ve encouraged me.
glad you're interested in the destash process. I have a fun video planned to show my process, as well as some suggestions on how other makers can pass on yarns + projects they no longer want :-)
So glad to hear about your upcoming video on de- stashing. I hope to become a “major contributor “! 😅
Another great video! While crocheting is my hobby, quilting is my job, I still have a few WIPS. The memories attached to the WIPS are my yarn journals. Your stories related to each project is why I return to your channel. I would love to see the Granny Square project completed. Please continue to inspire!
I've got my granny square blanket queued up! I can't wait to get home this weekend and start planning the color order :-)
Hi Toni
I am a one-WIP kind of girl.
You made my day!😊
My favorite is the last blanket - such incredibly gorgeous colors! It looks like silk. Yummy! Can't wait to see it finished!
Loooooove the idea of frogging projects you're not in love with and giving them a new life. Thanks for this idea - more charity projects!!
Your videos are always a heaven-sent Toni!!
I practice and practice and ruined part of a couple yards of different, very non-beginner yarns 😁
I have a TERRIBLE habit of starting projects. It feels like it's part of my damn personality at this point. But not with crochet!! I started a small, mish-mash blankie of practice strips that I put together and actually FINISHED. Not huge, but different textures and softness, just to carry around. I have four foster kids under 8, and they will all go home with a piece of my heart in those little calm-down blankies😊
First actual project and I finished it before starting another! 😮😮😮
Now working on my first grandchild's blanket, started it last night and I already see how I can start with a 10-chain width then turn and work off the long side, using the initial strip a large bottom border.
Hello Toni,
Your beautiful signed book
arrived in the mail today. Along with a couple of sweet
stickers and a candy.❤ You are the best.
Finish, Frog, Ice or De-stash 🤯🤯🤯 this is such helpful advice! I like how you went through the options and was okay to let some go 🍃take care 💐
The meatball sweater is GORGEOUS 😮😊❤ but it looks more like Rose Quartz ❤ 19:03
Hi Toni, I have 15 WIPs at the moment and work on 4 WIPs a day rotating them, saving my 4 blankets for Sunday’s. Thank you for sharing ❤❤❤
You make me happy knowing I’m not alone in my WIPs. Hey, it’s the journey, not the destination 😊.
I love it!
PS. I LOVE your videos! You are awesome
I adore your eye for color
Can I just say thank you!!!! I have so many wips I was feeling like "what's wrong with me?" I just can't finish one project before starting the next ...this video made me feel like it might be normal! 😂 I love your takes on all of your projects and ....my goodness I can relate to just about everything you said! You're amazing!! Thank you for all your videos and I will now feel better about going through my own wips! Have a great day!! ❤
The interview with Marie was fabulous. The cable sweater she’s wearing is my favorite.
Just reading these comments makes me feel SO much better. I have a few crochet WIPs and a few knitting WIPS. I have put myself on moratorium for buying any new yarn, and I’m looking for easy patterns to detach my older boring yarns with.
Thanks for the inspiration Toni!!
Oh Toni, I love, love, love your sweatshirt ! And you hair is straighten, lookin good girl, your hat is cute too. !!!❤❤
Thanks! Decided to switch it up for this video :-)
Those curtains are so beautiful
My most favorite video ever! After seeing your WIP stash, I know I can tackle mine--and it's not just bc you have more than I have. (Wink) Love what you do!
Watched this yesterday and decided to frog a temp blanket from 2022. While listening to this video I realized I could still use the yarn just not in that chosen project. I am excited to start the new blanket and finally use the yarn!! Thanks for helping me to make that decision!! Sometimes frogging is the best way to work through the slump!!
I love the sweater you are wearing!🤩 I can watch and listen to your channel for hours, while i am doing my own crochet stuff. Greets from Germany😊
I always have many many WIPs going. Some are long term, like your blankets, and some are short term market prep-type items. I like to switch things up when my brain gets bored of something.
what a great way to view, own, make decisions about your WIPs. you must feel so much better with a clear direction to go forward. :-)
If I don’t think about the wips they aren’t a problem… also that cardigan at the end 😍❤️❤️❤️
Go for it!
Perfect timing on this for me. I just lined up five WIP bags on my studio table and started working through them.
So unrelated but TONI YOUR GLASSES!!! the cutest I've ever seen, what a fun shape and you look so great with them!!
I love my Paisley and Gold bags. I legit will be like hmm is this project special enough for this bag because they are my favorite ❤
Thanks for sharing. I have so many wips stuffed everywhere… beginning is awesome, then …. SQUIRRAL!!!
I have tons of WIPs right now. I'm sticking to one knit project and one crochet project at a time so I get variety but also progress towards finishing. Keeping a journal has really helped me stay on track.
Your rectangular blankets are the only ones I've seen that do not look twisted in the center. 😍
I definitely have some wips lurking that I've been avoiding 😂
Thanks for this reminder that wips deserve love too. It's a kick in the butt for me to get get crackin on them again ❤
I've only just gotten back into crocheting in the last few months after not really having done any since I was a kid. I'm trying to stick to only a couple of projects going at a time 😅
Right now I'm making both of my cats these mini blankets (basically going home baby blankets) and I'm currently making myself a shawl.
But I have Many Many plans and the yarn for those plans already.
Also, hearing you talk to yourself was extra fun for me because my name is also Toni and I say the SAME things to myself all the time
the meatball sweater was looking like a very cute crop top!!!!
Timmie’s! Canadian girl here - there’s a tims in my backyard 😂
Loved this video - has given me the motivation to pull out my Tunisian sampler blanket and work on some new squares!! ❤
