Desperate Measures - Royal Enfield Classic 500

- It's 1901, Queen Victoria's 63 year reign has come to an end, Texas discovers its oil, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid are officially in trouble, and Royal Enfield produce their first motorcycle.
“The oldest global motorcycle brand in continuous production” is a tag the company is rightly proud of, and in 2017 the company returned home to old Blighty when it opened its brand new Technology Centre based at Bruntingthorpe Proving Grounds. Home to over 120 employees, the team in Leicester have been working on multiple projects with their colleagues in Chennai, India and I'm particularly keen to see what the historic brand has to offer over the next century.
Our Classic 500 is a wonderfully simple machine. Its post-war design evokes warm reactions wherever we ride, and it's not just older folks who remember similarly styled bikes through rose-tinted specs. It's an honest machine built around its engine, a design which I suspect can be traced back to when the sidecar was considered a good idea. Of course its been refined over the years and gained a few modern niceties like fuel injection, but at its heart, the 500cc lump is a pure, reliable and dependable workhorse. The single cylinder may not provide huge gobs of power, but its soundtrack is unmistakable and there's more than enough torque to satisfy. We had the plucky trooper navigating all sorts of, ahem, terrain because directors “need shots” and the Classic is, unsurprisingly, unstoppable. Having conquered Scotland's finest, I elected to ride the Classic all the way back to London in a single run. I wanted to. That's the spirit of the Classic 500.
Huge thanks to the chaps at the Technology Centre for resurrecting the 1937 KX1140 and letting me ride it. A diamond in the memory. We would like to extend a special thank you to Fred Glover who kindly agreed to appear in the film and was an absolute joy to work with. Fred is one of only a handful of WWII survivors and served in the 9th Parachute Battalion on D-Day. It was a special volunteer force assigned to crash inside the Mervile battery.
No person would ever trade an old RE ( especially that beauty ) for a new one.
Ambadi Vijayan
I wonder if he would trade a bottle of that whiskey for a bottle of Bells 😉
True
Honestly i like the new one
Absolutely
Well ya its vintage solid built and all but be practical now we dont even have their parts and its quite hard to maintain my brother owns one old enfield its great for shorter commutes but giving problems now and then on long ones
I would have pushed the bike for days just to save the bottle for the old man
Ik ook!
Shit I would rather drink that bottle
Exactly
The video is titled desperate measures
Exactly !!
Moral if the story : RE also runs on whisky!!!
whiskey is the fuel of the future
One day, gas will be more expensive.
Good to know!
It's scotch
I watched it again being a royal enfield guy l couldn’t help myself love this vid thanks again
Thought an Indian would be more your thing with that name 👍
I am a fortunate owner of Royal Enfield classic 500 like this. When you ride this motorcycle fell the beat and shine.
saving to get me a classic 500 and remind me to carry with me a bottle of whiskey just in case. Beautiful vid.
No, just put some gas in it.
better get one soon the classic has been discontinued!
@@dionmoore879 Rightly said mate, Whisky n'd Motorbikes ain't a good mix.
Get it soon. RE is going to stop making 500 classic in near future. Its already discontinued in India due to its inability to conform to BS6 pollution guidelines.
BUY BATTLE GREEN COLOR
You made a hollywood film scene. Those people are great who give importance to the emotions of their elders😊
Oh wow l don’t know why you didn’t get more thumbs up for this little gem watch it twice great l enjoyed it
Just bought my first motorcycle! A Royal Enfield classic 500.
I tried to use Kerosene instead of Petrol on my old JAWA 1967 and It did start with complete White Smoke .
My grandfather owned a RE in 1963, Sold it in 1987.
My father managed to find it out and bought it back in 2001.
Here i am today in 2021 and still get wet dream driving my " Raj dulari "
This video has a important msg in that. Its very deep. Old man and his son love abut royal Enfield.
What a beautiful film---it made me cry, and then when the rider poured the scotch into the tank, it made me laugh---Excellent!
Wowo really this guy owns that rusting legend .he could be a millionaire
Nice theme and nice bike. I also own a Royal Enfield bullet Signals edition. It feels so good to ride.
“Good runner ?” “ you’ll have to be to get it started.” 😂
Wow I remember that petrol station when it was open and the superb cafe sad loss....moto guzzi them days now a himalayan...😊
You left the empty bottle at the side of the road? ROCK "N" ROLL ! ! !
The charecter of the motorcycle is amazing....I have The bullet 350 back home.....plz make more of this kind of vedios....cheers man
"Our single malt tastes like gasoline!" not sure about this ad....but, seriously...nice videography. I want to spend the day with that grandpa, and hear his stories. And, if we crack open a good scotch, well, so be it!
What a phantastic little movie about an outstanding Motorcycle. Heartwarming ! I have a lot of bikes .Some up to 200 plus bhp. None of them is more of a MOTORCYCLE then my Bullet 500 Classic !
THE OLD ONE IS BEAUTIFUL. MAINLY BY DOUBLE EXHAUST.
THIS IS BRILLIANT ........... But very sadly an excellent film with great emotion and meaning which is lost to half a world with mentality from another planet .
This is symbolic , could not help when it hit in the feels
Beautiful! I hope that never happens to me on my Classic 500! Lol
Itll be heavy af
Would not have happened with a fuel gauge or a trip meter ...
There's 4 litres left when the low-fuel lamp comes on, at least 60 miles. A bit of poetic licence used up there.
Who would want a petrol gauge and a trip meter on a proper motorbike ?
That's for plastic scooters , A different Sport altogether .
fyi d stock bike does not come with a fuel gage!!!al least d 2017 c 350 model i bought
Should have a trip meter, my 1959 BSA 650 even has one.
What a genuinely lovely, short film...kudos!
Superbly filmed! Very much enjoyed it :)
This video is much better than royal enfield ad
no their ads are better
This great video made me cry, not because the beautiful bike, but because the wasted old whisky. I really hope that at least before pouring that nectar from the bottle at least he had a few sip from the bottle. Best regards from San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Such a waste of that precious whiskey for that blown head gasket tin can.and why the heck someone would ever trade a antique royal Enfield with a new one.gosh.but the video was absolute gem.
I guess the sky found the only road on the planet earth where there’s not constant traffic
I m from India.....feel proud to see Indian beauty is in foreign territory...
that is so weird? I thought the moral lesson of this short vid. Is to treasure the old one this is vintage my boi
Beautiful 😍 video old is gold
Love that V twin Enfield
What video were you watching? That is the Classic 500 SINGLE.
@@boomerguy9935 the very beginning of the video when he is in the barn and gets the old bike running that's like a 1937 V twin Enfield it has twin exhaust when he rides it out of the barn you can see the other cylinder
Being a royal Enfield person its very emotional video.
Spirit of Royal Enfield
Some great shots there enjoyed that greatly have subbed
Wow, what a fantastic story
This bike has a lot of fans here in India 🇮🇳
Bellissima !
I once ran out of fuel in the hills of Northern California on my sv650. I came across a parked flatbed trailer with a can of 2 stroke fuel in the back. I managed to make it home with a heavy cloud of black smoke behind me.
Great video.made me smile
I would never change my old enfield with a new one
What a beautiful little film.
This is the most "green" video I've seen of Royal Enfield hehehe Love it. I wish there would be more people running these on biofuels :)
Pennsylvania discovered oil in 1859 way before Texas. I would have polished off 1/2 the bottle and slept on the wayside until someone came along.
GREAT Videos, remember me with my lovely RE 500 when it out of petrol and never do it again, but rather not to late to buy petrol on this bike, cause injector and fuel pump RE 500 it so expesive, i had one time and pain in the wallet. Overall GREAT VIDEOS. Cheers from Indonesia.
Meaning: RE is not just an object, it's a living thing. Give it a shot and it would listen to you😉
REALLY enjoy my RE 500 Classic ...........But I don't think I woulda swapped that barn find for one..........Maybe that's why it took him so long to give
The 500 a little taste outta the jug........not the sharpest knife in the drawer
the hero starts the trip with a motorcycle and finished with another one.
Clicked on it thinking it's a review. Turned out to be a promo.
People shit commenting about why exchange the old beauty for new? We didn't see that part, may well be, he asked them to recreate it. Makes sense especially since the spec parts wouldn't be available anywhere other than the Enfield services, and even they might have to custom create them if they aren't in production anymore. But they'd know better.
This is one priceless video❤️❤️
Somebody get that old man a bottle of whiskey!!!!
I love this video!!! And i love the Royal Enfield. I've a Continental GT ❤️
thats a beautifull clip but i wouldnt trade the old one for anything in the world, even fro a new one that died somewhat and pushed him to use that wiskey bottle the grandpa would have loved to drink.
In the end i found the protagonist ultra selfish and the story not so wholesome ahahah. But anyway its really well made and it's the best tribute i've ever seen about this magestic motorbike. Well done !
I bet the salesman was pleased with that deal. Take in an old v twin Royal Enfield in exchange for a new Bullet. Quids in on that one. Lol
Believe it or not that broke my heart
And then, he flew to the Moon..... 🤗
What's the milage with a pint of whiskey?
hey, If i'm 6,6 tall 198c will i be too big for classic 500 ?
kw7815 no
Yess
Maybe try a Himalayan.
Nah.
Old is gold
Super top video
Okay so he completely ignored the fuel reserve indicator? The bike easily goes for about 40 miles after the low fuel indicator shows.
This has been the worst trade maybe in the history of trades.
Royal always royal....
wonderful history very nice love the story of this movie 👌
I saw enfield classic i liked video
Man its an emotion for me 🥺
I crave for one .
What if he had no idea that there is a reserve in it and that would have been a waste of good liquor 😆😆
Fuel injection does not have reserve
Such an amazing video made my day
Cool video cool bike
Nice concept
a real doosh of an ending
One word fantastic
Power of India..💪🏻
Nice bro!keep road trip safe. Subscribed :)
Old win , new life .
Incrível como gostei da 1°motoclycle.....best.
Hey, it’s a film, I loved it 👍
A Bullet 500 we a twin sound?! Are you serious?
Correct!
Exactly
What's the first music?
RE fan !
I think the old man wouldn’t let him in 😂
Desperate time calls for desperate measures
With all due respect. Bullet is not a bike. It’s a girlfriend. She is wild. Wild as hell. 😆 ride her is tough but she is a bullet goose forward than the queen
Those are some great shots, but sound of bike is not correct.
Old man killed his grandson with a empty bottle for selling his precious bike and wasting his wiskey is maybe what is next day news headlines...🤫🤥Great passion of Old generation spoiled by youth ....#new RE
Definitely plenty of fuel stops on the way back from Scotland lol!
Leave the bike, take the whiskey back to the old fella.
The strange part is, after whisky got poured into the Enfield it started without a hiccup.
Dunno why they made the single sound like a twin though.....
Trades a true classic, the trades a true aged whiskey...
What's next he'll trade his wife?
Worst decision to trade old Gem with current generation of Royal Enfield
Legends bike
I wonder is that a classic500 with gunmetal grey colour🤔
It indeed is. Sold in the overseas market as Royal Enfield does not provide them the 350cc option.
Kim Jong Mishra oh that’s why!! Thanks btw👍🏻
Beautiful emotional
