      @@richarddevaottien7724Nothing crude about them. The Classic 350 in particular is incredibly refined. I rode a 2022 Triumph Bonneville back to back with this and the Classic 350 was higher quality and more refined in every way. Of course I preferred the 1200cc engine on the triumph, but if you don't need or dont want blistering speed, the Classic 350 is a better bike for 1/3 the price.

      We call it the "Royal Zenfield". Don't bin them off based on preconceived ideas - try one. You might be surprised. And will very quickly appreciate their remarkable value and the accessibility they provide.

  • @julianroberts7116
    @julianroberts7116 Рік тому +58

    So many people seem to look down on these bikes saying they're underpowered, and reading between the lines, the interviewer seems to think that too. It's such a shame, these bikes are all most of us really need. He even agreed there's no point really having a super-mega 500hp sports bike of doom that you only use 2% of.
    My Classic 350 gives me a million smiles per gallon, every time I get on it. The sound of the little thumping engine is so heart-warming, it's so comfortable and easy to ride, great around town, perfect for Sunday bimbles, cheap to insure, cheap on fuel, well made, reliable, it looks beautiful, and most importantly of all, it makes me FEEL so happy when I'm on it.
    So, so many people want that feeling, when they're riding - you know the one? The feeling of freedom and escape, of blue skies and countryside and wind in your face. This bike delivers that feeling in spades. There are no visible computers, no riding modes, no TFT screens, and no sat-nav. Just a nice little engine, simple switchgear, and comfort. With this I'm able to just enjoy riding.
    The thought of flying along at 100mph with an engine doing 9,000rpm rocketing me into a corner before I've had chance to look around, on something that looks like it's escaped from a manga comic, does absolutely nothing for me.

    Good discussion. I'm 52 and bought the RE Meteor 350 as my first bike. A lot of the same reasons, except the disability. I wasn't interested in racing, it was a good starter cost, and less costly to replace if my beginner skills fail and less dangerous. So far its been a blast.

    There's a strange, unspoken, self-inflicted restriction we put ourselves into. Sports bike guys feel that anything else isn't appropriate. Everyone does this. Scooters suffer from this. Perfectly good motorcycles, do everything a person may need it for yet, people want to be seen on a huge GS, commuting to work. Harley riders, same. If we could separate that part of our brain that cares what people think, what would we ride?

    Why not consider a scooter? A honest question. We had a Suzuki Burgman 650 a very roomy and competent scooter. My wife found it impossible to get on my Vulcan 900 with its saddle bags and backrests. But with the Burgman she would step on and slide back to the pillion seat easily. Plus there was no apparent loss of power riding two up. As you are in GB you have more options for various brands and sizes of scooters too. Living in a place where anything but a heavy weight Harley is a social misstep does prejudice scooter ownership but when I beat every over weight middle aged beanie helmeted Harley rider from a light there was comfort in that. 😎 On the other hand as someone doing my own servicing and repairs a bike like this RE is to be treasured.

    Great story. I sound like a record but RE really have done so much for the UK bike market.
    When I bought a bike again after selling my GSXR back in 2015 I knew I was going retro. I was set on a Triumph but ended up getting a Conti 650 from Triumph Solent as I could get a practically new bike on low end Triumph money.
    DO NOT regret a thing. Spent loads of money on mods and only put about 800 miles on her but I love nothing more than popping in the garage with a cup of tea and tinkering or just staring it 😂.
    These bikes are absolutely worth the money.

    Well done with your lovely RE! Good to see you’re getting some miles on it.
    Don’t know if it’s the UA-cam algorithm but I’m seeing a spate of thefts of these by the yoot- wether it’s because they have realised they are easier to nick than the more powerful and expensive ones?
    Neevesy should wear a headmaster outfit the grilling he’s giving you 😂

    My girlfriend doesn't quite have the excuse of cerebral palsy but she struggles to get on taller bikes. The Classic 350 is definitely the right sort of size/layout but just doesn't have the grunt I'd want for pulling two above average size adults. I think a Bonneville would be ideal but that's not currently within my budget!

      You might consider the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 or the Super Meteor, also a 650. Apparently the Classic 650 is on it's way soon too.

    A lovely story and maybe a Street twin or Norton could make a good upgrade if more oopmh is required in a few years. Nice low seat and easy torque engines

    CANNOT WAIT for Royal Enfield to release the Classic 650! There have been spy shots of a virtually showroom ready version on test in India, for nearly 12 months! It MIGHT be the new Bullet, but local press have called it the Classic! It looks good and will allow those higher speeds required in Europe and the US!
    I think what makes this style of bike so popular, is the nostalgia for a bike that LOOKS LIKE A BIKE! Simplicity and functionality at the heart of it's design AND useability. No fancy tech, no expensive cosmetics, and a price point that keeps biking ACCESSIBLE! It's EXACTLY what the industry has been needing for 40 years!
    For those who cannot understand the lack of power and statistical prowess, you need to understand there was once a different reason for owning and LOVING a bike, that didn't involve going fast, or being part of "fashion parade"! This style of bike helps us get reacquainted with those feelings, and if sales and press coverage are anything to go by, then those FEELINGS are now becoming VERY IMPORTANT to bikers again?

    Seriously considering one of these as a leisurely country steed. Even to travel through europe using back roads. But, some bikers will need a second, more powerful bike in the stable. This 350 is just so, endearingly, classic.

    Enjoyed this video and really appreciated what was said.
    However… for a fraction of the cost, you could pick up something like CB 500 which would do the same thing as the RE but better?
    It would be great to see a segment which involves purchases privately and how they get on with older bikes, which I would assume the majority of people would be looking at anyway.

    My side covers are metal - it's the boxes behind them that are plastic 😎 Does the side stand switch stop the starter turning over, or does it just not let the engine start (I'm not going to try it on mine). Also specs say somewhere around 195kg, not "well over 200"!

    • @Trev350
      @Trev350 Рік тому

      Yes, the side covers are steel. He's not the first to wrongly state they are plastic. This baffles me every time I hear it said, because you only have to look at them to see they are metal

    You can try a Moto Guzzi V7. They are even lower than the RE, and have a very comfortable saddle. Plus shaft drive.
