Scooters with flat floor are the workhorse for all kinds of home errands. Local butane shops even use scooters to deliver 5 barrels in one trip with self-designed rear rack.
I purchased the primo windshield for my buddy 50.. any scooter I purchase I would definitely get a windshield for it because it blocks the bugs.. blocks the wind and keeps you warmer... And if you accidentally get caught in the rain you can duck behind the windscreen.... You also gain a couple of miles per hour faster as it causes less wind resistance than driving without a windshield
@@nextari never heard of that problem in fact I had a accident with a car on my Yamaha vino 125 I hit the windshield the windshield just broke loose.. no injuries
Nice to find your videos. I’m local and brought my PCX to you a few years ago. Thanks for the great service! I sold that scooter and am looking to get back into it. I’ll put this on my list and stop by to check it out!
Enjoying your reviews, I didn't know much about buddy scooters. I met a guy at gas station that had one that had a manual or auto clutch manual buddy that looked old school. It was cool
The one you saw with the manual clutch is not a buddy... It's a genuine scooter company" Stella" .. made in India.. it's an all metal body scooter... I have a genuine scooter company buddy 50 and I love it
How about that growl? Also a dash light does come on at the prescribed interval for oil change. I dig my Hooligan, and in the 2022 season of gas prices, it will be on the road a lot. The ONE thing I do not like is the name plate on the sides. I used a hair dryer and floss to remove them. Super clean.
@@christophercaldwell3963 It is the titanium matte grey. Not a mark on it from the removal. One more thing. The dash lights are very bright for night riding.
I have owned my genuine Buddy 50.. for 4 months now..love it ❤️.. but I couldn't imagine riding a 170cc buddy on the roads around here.. the buddy does take the bumps really rough... I would probably purchase a hooligan 170 instead with the larger tires and better suspension
The hooligan and the buddy 170i would be pretty equal performers. If we could blind fold you and have you still ride you wouldn’t feel any real difference between the two. You could also look into a buddy kick
Thank you for this review. I just happily purchased a white 2021 Hooligan after 20 years with a 1981 Vespa PX125E. It’s perfect for where my life is now. The only thing I loathe is the massive nameplate on both sides. Can it be removed? And how?
First off CONGRATS ON THE NEW SCOOTER! Second the name plates can be removed. You could use fishing like or a small flat head to pry it up. The only tricky thing is that the hooligan has matte paint. Keeping the paint uniform could be tough, that matte paint with the wrong chemical or amount of rubbing will get shiny
@@SiegfriedsMotorwerx Thanks for getting back. Luckily I mine's white with a shiny finish (actually this made the nameplate even more prominent!). So I was able to pry it off and then apply a bit of GooGone and voila...perfection. Just subscribed to you guys...I wouldn't have made this leap without this vid.
Interesting. I'm not accustomed to riding a scooter, and those little engines, so it's a little weird to hear you calmly talking about it while the engine is screaming at 8000rpm! Lol My motorcycle red lines at 6000rpm and I rarely run it over 3500rpm. Just a difference I'm going to have to get used to if I get one of those scooters for running around town.
Always wondered how they got the pgo x hot 150 motor to 170cc without liquid cooling. (This model based on pgo x hot 150 model in Taiwan) Even in Taiwan there tigra 150cc is liquid cooled
@@SiegfriedsMotorwerx Yes it is fuel injected. The tigra 150 is more high comp piston so needs liquid cooling and puts out around 17hp. The pgo gmax 220 is a fuel injected air cooled low comp engine with 16hp. I'm guessing the hooligan might use this type of engine or maybe even parts from the 180 or 200 gmax engine or maybe genuine has added non-pgo parts to make it 170cc since to date I don't know of any factory oem pgo 170cc model. Might be non-pgo parts added to the xhot 150 engine.
I’m 5’2”. Will this scooter be too big for me? I’ve looked at others and they are either way too big or too slow. I just want to make sure this is safe for me to drive.
Would u say the quality of this scooter is on the same level as a Yamaha or honda as far as the build power comfort and reliability and do u think it could keep up with the s max speed wise
Fit and finish yes for certain. Reliability isn’t really a fair fight. What I can say is all of the hooligans my shops dealt with have been great for us and their owners Sipped wise the Smax would likely beat it BUT the smax is an extremely different machine in terms of motor
Thanks for a thorough and detailed review. I saw there was an earlier comment regarding the narrow leg shield. I had noticed that your lower legs looked exposed during the ride. At cruising speed, does the leg shield provide any deflection or protection for the knees down?
I have a buddy 50... That does a true 40 mph on level ground.. and 45 to 50 downhill.. the shroud on the front of my buddy does deflect the wind off your legs.. like the hooligan there is a space to put your legs up on the sides of the cowling... Your legs are in the wind but really no big deal.. perhaps if you're riding in 30° weather it would make a difference.. but I've written motorcycles all my life so no big deal... I did however install a prima windshield which deflects the wind/air and I gained some top end speed because it's more aerodynamic.. with a windshield.. keeps the bugs in the acorns from hitting me.. also if I get caught in the rain I can lean down and get behind the windshield so I'm not getting hit in the face with rain
Can I get it with a big round analog speedo, which is useful, instead of a big round analog tach which is essentially useless on a CVT scooter? Aside from that I like it a lot. I rode a Yamaha SMax, it was nice but just too cramped to ever be comfortable for me because of the stepped seat. Why are most scooters seemingly designed to be ridden by midgets? Even the Kymco 300 is like that. I feel like I'm jammed up against the leg shield with the handlebars in my lap.
I think we are going to get our turn here soon. The Genuine Scooter Company scooters are very well fitted and minder towards the American body. Plus Honda has been bringing new models over for us more frequently
Weird question but how long is you jeans size? I wear 36 length and am having trouble finding a new scooter that fits. I have a 1985 Honda elite 150 that fits me perfectly but have been looking for a new scooter and I love fuel injection. I tried a Lance Cabo which I think looks the best but the bars turned right into my knees making it hard to steer while cruising slow.
They are not cheap but at least the ones marked genuine have a way for you to get parts in the US and the warranty can be done in the US. You buy one of those cheap knockoffs which you can get for $1200 and so what if it has a warranty what are you going to do ship it back to Taiwan.
Could you start mentioning mpg of each scooter please even its just factory claimed. Seems kymco scooters get lower mpg,not sure if its mostly their carb models or not
Hooligan has a more comfortable seat and smoother ride. Hooligan has quicker acceleration to 50, maybe even 60mph. Kymco has a slightly higher top speed of maybe 65. Not really sure how useful that advantage is since scooters in this class are more for the city and taking either on the freeway isn't a good idea. However, Kymco has more fanboys and Genuine has more haters (particularly the Hooligan for some reason), so because of that the Super 8 wins. 😂 Relax Kymco fanboys and Hooligan haters, gotta have fun some time 😉
If your looking new The hooligan is faster, quicker, and has a better warranty, also it’s cockpit is larger. Honestly I LOVE Zuma’s but the Zuma 125 is one of the biggest disappointments right after the 4 stroke zuma 50’s
I recently bought the Zuma and love it. It is very fast off the line for a 125cc. I think the Hooligan was designed to copy the Zuma. The Hooligan would be highway legal even though i would never take it there. They are about the same price. It's possible Genuine may negotiate a lower price if they don't sell as well as the Yamaha. I think the Yamaha will hold its value better and they are #1 in reliability. The quality is good on the Genuine scooters but I thought the Yamaha was a little better. The Zuma is a 4 valve engine which I understand helps with performance. It pulls me and my wife around no problem. The Zuma has very large and excellent brakes. I'm not sure about the Hooligan. They are suspiciously vauge about their specs.
@@SiegfriedsMotorwerx In watching your video, it didn't seem to accelerate any faster than my Zuma. The Zuma does only come with 1 year warranty but you can take it up to 5 years 'very cheap'.
