Thank you so much for these valuable tips! May I ask you something: Do you think the goal is to live completely sugar-free, that is, to never touch it again (just the same as you don't want to touch drugs since sugar can be regarded as one) or would you say that the dose makes the poison and it's okay to once in a while eat a piece of cake (e.g. at someone's birthday)? Because I am scared that IF I manage to get sugar-free, that eating sugar once will immediately make me fall back into old habits (which are really bad at the moment; I have to say though that I'm also bulimic which probably adds another layer to this already complex issue). I'm curious for your answer. Kind regards :)

Such a great question Pia!! Thanks for asking! A lot of my clients express this same concern, so you are definitely not alone. This is something I definitely want to dive into in a future video, but what I teach my clients is that YES -- you absolutely can have sugar in your life without going back to old eating habits.
The goal is not to eliminate sugar forever if it is coming from a place of fear or anxiety. If you eliminate sugar from that place, it perpetuates this idea that "sugar has control over you" and that you have to avoid it for you to have control. That is NOT true.
It is 100% possible to eat sugar in a mindful and intentional way, which is what I teach my clients to do. In fact, I recommend all my clients to have a weekly "Exception Eat," which is when you allow yourself to have sugar once a week in an intentional way to help mitigate your cravings.
In fact, if you tell yourself you CAN'T EVER have sugar, that creates feelings of deprivation, which often drives someone to want to overeat sugar and binge.
If you allow yourself to have sugar in an intentional way that you plan ahead of time, it actually feels more empowering and makes you craves LESS.
I will make a video on this for next week so people know how to integrate sugar in their life WITHOUT reverting back to old overeating habits!!

@@sugarfreeselfcare Wow, thank you so much for that detailed answer! What you wrote makes 100% sense to me and I especially love what you expressed in the 2nd paragraph. This goal seems a worth achieving one and I believe it might be worth the effort to change some habits, even though (or especially if) you come from a really dark place of sugar addiction. I cannot wait for your video on the topic, thanks for considering it! :)
