  • The PEABEE WING FOLD on the FOX 13 wing is brilliant and saves so much time when it comes to getting ready to go flying. When I first started to rig my machine I was always struggling with the little details so I decided to make this video to share all my little tricks and tips. I am happy now with getting the wing ready for preflight. I normally can be ready to taxi in about 20-30 minutes from pitching up. A few have asked for this video, so here is a short video on how I rig my machine using the wing fold.
    I'm sure there are better ways and some things I have forgotten, everyday is a school day.
    I hope you enjoy this video.

      Hi Lee, I hope it gave a little insight into the lighter end. The Bigger heavier Flexwings are a lot more effort and do most remain fully rigged. The Joy of the Flylight designs is they are a joy to rig and de rig.

    Had to watch again - I've been struggling with my TrikeBuggy w/NorthWing Solairus setup. My control bar has to be dropped go down infront of tire and then go under my trike frame to lower the wing to working height. On top of that - lifting the wing up to the fly position is hard as it lifts the front wheel. Trying to think of work arounds. Should of got a PeaBee😍

      I feel very fortunate that Ben has worked out the kinks on the rigging side. I've helped a few pilot rig and derig the P&M Quick and Quantums, your description sounds very familiar. Are you able to make a weight bag or jig to hold the trike in position?

      @@GolfFoxtrot22
      Yes I thinking of carrying a couple kettle bell weights in the car with me but that would mean a couple more items to bring, and then I would still need to chuck the rear wheels still when lifting so it did not roll back.
      So I decided to see if I can make a Linear Actuator do all the work. Getting very lazy in my older years🤣.
      I will still need to use front support brace -- I have to take at least the lower section off to let the control bar pass through but I am hoping I can on collapsible as well so I lock it in trailering mode -- dont want the actuator to carry and load in the fly or trailer mode.
      Also wanted to ask - how much twist, if any, does the PeaBee get in the main mast with a cross wind when you are tacking off. I noticed it considerably the other night while doing some taxi practice -- something I have not noticed at all in my Instructors Airborne 912 training trike. I was noticing at least 50mm on the control bar. Just wandering how common it is in the smaller trikes. Should I be up grading my main mast to something thicker if this is not common.
      Cheers

    • @GolfFoxtrot22
      @GolfFoxtrot22  2 роки тому +1

      @@patrickmckowen2999 that sounds ike a little project to keep you going. Regarding the twist, there is a little bit but it is mostly if the lower play bolts are not super tight. I've noticed it on all the aircraft that I have flown, when landing in a crosswind.

    One question ... those three little screw holes at the tips (forget now what you called them - ?trim adjusters?) ... are they to make a slight compensation against 'roll' ... torque from the engine/prop?

      Hello Anton, when I transport it, I separate them and like you, the wing goes on a set of ladders. The PeaBee goes in a trailer but as the width is only 4ft, it would fit inside a box trailer with ease. I have seen it transported with the wing fitted ( short packed), however, it had to face backwards and the wing was supported in a little U cradle on the trailer shaft. I hope that helps. This video is more for when its stored at the airstrip.

    Hi Giles,
    I have been following you for some time now and love your videos. The way you have shared your journey in microlights and how you contineu to explain things along the way is an inspiration to me and no doubt many others, so thank you.
    I do have a question on the wing fold kit as it is something I am very interested in. I fly an Airborne Edge Redback here is Australia and I have been wanting to figure out a way to fold the wing while on the trike. Everyone says it cannot be done however it is a very siumiliar design to your wing so a wing fold kit should do the trick.
    Any chance you can do a video or send me some infomration on how it works?
    At present I have to manipulate the trike in and out of the hangar in a very convoluted way that until recently meant cracking the seat until the bar is beneath the front wheel just to get enough clearance to get throught the door. It is painful to say the least and you always need two people to get it done. It is so difficult that many flying days have been missed simply because of access issues and not being able to get it out on my own. Being able to drop the king post and fold the wing would solve it all.
    kind regards
    Chris

    Great wing fold kit.
    Am going to make one for my Magic /Laser. The use of a fair length of strap at the wing end is obviously to to give some flexibility of movement to prevent strain where the tubes meet at the nose due to rise and fall.. The length of strap which remains inside the wing is not really visible. How is it attached to the tube?
    The other end seems to be attached to the removable bracket by means of a pin or bolt passing through a drilled hole in the tube. Is it as simple as that?
    Would really appreciate your insight, thanks,

    • @GolfFoxtrot22
      @GolfFoxtrot22  3 роки тому

      The top end is just a clip buckle and the bottom is a hole in the downtube that fits over a stub bolt. The strap length is about 14 inches, but as you say, it allows for flexibility and just supports the weight with the end being on the outside resting on the outside leading edge.

    Giles, a chance to clarify a point I've been scratching my head over. You fit the wing tip formers, by pushing the OC lock inboard and you stated that you had, up to that point been doing it incorrectly? On Marks (later) video on de-rigging, he pushes the OC lock inboard, to de-rig, indicating that he installs them the other way round? My interpretation of the wing manual is that you install by pushing them inboard, but the photo isn't that clear in my copy. I'm just checking that some new info hasn't come to light. It's possible that it's not that important, but I just wanted to clarify? Cheers, Neil.

      Hi Neil, I spoke Ben about this point only a few weeks ago, he said it didn't really matter as long as it is locked out. I've just found it was easier to have it bent in an angle so I can put it on the tang, then in the wing little webbing loop, then push it away. It is always good to check.

    Hi!, with the wing folded, its trailerable?, many thanks!

    • @GolfFoxtrot22
      @GolfFoxtrot22  2 роки тому +1

      It can be but you need to short pack the wing as well as support the basebar. I hope that helps. There is a video on Flylights or Ben Ashman's UA-cam channel where they trailer one of the machines in this way. It genuinely takes me about 45 minutes not to be flight ready from the wingbag and trike in the trailer.

      @@GolfFoxtrot22 so with the wing fold kit, there's no reason I couldn't travel with it all on a trailer as long as i give some extra support to the rear of the wing when its folded on the trike.

    How much is this sport cost in USA

    • @GolfFoxtrot22
      @GolfFoxtrot22  2 роки тому

      Hi Edgar, welcome to the channel and I've seen your comments on a number of my videos kind of asking the same thing. The US have different rules and regulations regarding flying so I strongly suggest you get hold of your local flying school for either flexwing or paramotoring as they will be able to give you a better understanding of both aircraft and training costs. I'm glad you are enjoying the videos but I can't really answer many of your questions regarding costs. I suggested Gliding ( Sailplanes) as you don't generally have to own one. Additionally if you can't afford powered flying then maybe look at paragliding and hang gliding. I hope that helps and never give up on your dreams.
